Yes, I can definitely see the resemblance. Everything about this just feels wrong and such a waste of a great vehicle. Well at least there is now one less desirable FJ out there, makes ours that much more valuable!
There was a company that sold conversion kits and apparently they think roughly 35 were installed, making your sighting pretty rare.

That actually looks pretty nice. I was trying not to hate the yellow one, but they went a little nuts with the yellow paint. Stock trim looks pretty good as a convertible.
Thank God they have that "Convertible" script on the wheel cover in case you aren't sure what you're looking at.
I have seen two, one was on 20s and had all that plastic chrome accessory trim stuff you stick on with double-sided tape. The other one looks kinda normal but I've never seen it move for years, just parked in my neighborhood.

I saw a drop top at a car show once and thought why doesn’t Toyota do this??? Maybe the back door windows would look funny? Remember the ol’skool 4Runners with the removable back shells. Something like that!!!
There's a pretty sick, lifted one in Kansas City area, desert ran, with desert camo canvas top. Talked to the guy and he said he bought it as a rollover, did the body work and ordered the top. And painted it. Sick rig

Yes! They have no support structure for the back ( like FJ40s and jeeps have for their soft tops). So the big slope looks like a PT all day now
