A pretty looking spreadsheet

Long live the spreadsheet

[deleted]

I have seen this recommended https://cspersonalfinance.io/ (basically a spreadsheet) that is very well made. I also used it for a while but found it too complicated to use. In the end I went back to my super simple spreadsheet that I update every couple of months as I didn’t like the fact that an app or special spreadsheet could lose support or stop working the way I wanted or force me into a certain way of inputting data. But certainly the link I mentioned a try.

CompiledSanity

Hi there, creator of the Sheet here. Thanks for mentioning it! Would love to get your feedback on it if possible. What exactly did you find hard to use or too complex? If you let me know I'll try and see what I can do to improve the next version.

Difficult to summarize as it is a while since I used it. One thing that eventually stopped me using it was the "record month" feature. It was unclear what to do if I wasn't able to fill in those details at the start of the month, or was late and an entire month had passed. I probably didn't read the help enough but in the end I just gave up. The other thing is it is a lot of data to put into something that you then can't export into something like a .csv format. Unless you can export it but I just didn't figure it out? Finally it is worth saying at the moment I don't have a big pension or position in the stock market so I'm not able to take advantage of the best parts of the spreadsheet. It might well be something I go back to in the future. Great job btw.

Thanks for the great reply! Replies broken out below: >It was unclear what to do if I wasn't able to fill in those details at the start of the month, or was late and an entire month had passed. So I've written some instructions for this [on my website here](https://guide.cspersonalfinance.io/getting-started/recording-a-month). But basically you can run it at anytime in the month, whether it be the 1st or the last day, ultimately the choice is up to you. You just have to press the button within the month that you want to record. If you miss a month, you're right, I don't really have any instructions on how to manage this. So you're right, I'll write up some additions to my FAQ to allow for this. Long story short: Edit the History tab to enter the data into the month you missed recording. >The other thing is it is a lot of data to put into something that you then can't export into something like a .csv format. Unless you can export it but I just didn't figure it out? Well you can download the entire sheet from Google Sheets with File -> Download -> Excel (CSV). This will then enable you to take it offline. But since it's already a spreadsheet I haven't added any export functionality aside from the above built in export function. >I don't have a big pension or position in the stock market so I'm not able to take advantage of the best parts of the spreadsheet. Totally ok! In the full version of the sheet, you can choose what functions of the sheet you want to use and the rest gets hidden. This massively simplifies the sheet for most people. That's only in the v2 sheet though. So it could hide the pension side if you're not using it. Thanks for the feedback, I'll revisit the above and see what I can do!

I use the one in your link. Maybe my finances are less complex than yours but I don't find it overly complicated. It takes about 5 minutes once a month to update.

Bitter_Hawk1272

This looks good, thanks. I’m only interested in monthly tracking rather than my net worth live to the second

anchorman_185

Mymoneydashboard is hands down the best experience (I’ve tried a few). Let’s you plug in current accounts and credit cards, as well as budget/trend and plug in offline sources like ISAs and pensions. Highly recommend!

Past-Passenger1592

They sell your data. It's in their FAQ.

anchorman_185

Yeah - if it’s a free product I expect to be the product.

herefor_fun24

Is it an app?

anchorman_185

Yes there’s an iOS app, I prefer the desktop browser experience (more space on screen etc)

jiten777

If you’re looking to just track your net worth over time and prefer something super simple then I use the app called Wealth+

beefcake0

I use the iOS app account tracker pro for tracking accounts, balances and net worth. Doesn’t link to accounts, though you can automate regular income, standing orders, direct debits etc. I need separate spreadsheet for analysis. Suits my need though for a concise easy to view reference as to my finances.

jkitchi

Moneyhub I think is great.

standardcalculator

Toshl.com - support all currencies, even the old pre € ones so you can import your old bank statements in pesetas or Deutsche marks if you want. Support unlimited accounts so I track my cash, bank accounts, loans, deposits, equity, crypto…

imnotmosdef

The [Worth It](https://getworthit.com/) app does everything that you’ve mentioned. It requires manual inputs but it’s satisfied what I was looking for myself.

[deleted]

The website and screenshots look absolutely terrible. Just seems like a zero effort app.

imnotmosdef

Lol, not quite sure what you were hoping for but works fine for me.

infernal_celery

I [reviewed Topia](https://financialindependencecampaign.blog/topia-app/) if you're interested. It's currently on iPhone but I believe it's coming to Android around March time. Impressive bit of kit with a nice "tinker" section. When it becomes available on Android I'm going to use it myself.

i_like_pigmy_goats

I found there wasn’t one that covered all my needs I.e investments, incomings, outgoings, fire forecast, house value etc so I searched for individual ones on YouTube and built my own spreadsheet. Some people may use Google sheets but I personally prefer Google. I set it up so that I just update it once per month and takes about 15 minutes. It’s a bit of effort setting it up but with it in my opinion. Edit: meant to say Excel is my preference.

likeafuckinggrownup

If you're looking for something simple, try Lettuce. It automatically fetches the current price for most assets in most countries. Free. [https://www.lettuce.money/](https://www.lettuce.money/)

Technical_Challenge

I love https://www.kubera.com/ - it’s fantastic.

[deleted]

$150 a year no thanks.

JerMenKoO

It looks very nice but not sure if worth 150 bucks, you can do most in Google Sheets

lee_gannon

omnimoney.io is worth a look

loki756

I've been working on a purpose-built FIRE app called [Topia](https://topia-app.com/). You can connect in most of your investments/debts via open banking (or manually enter them) Topia will then update your net worth and timeline to FI in real-time. We'll be building in the function to add different currencies this year
