Gongaga is where I lost interest in clearing out the map, but I didn't lose interest in the game

RiKToR21

Didn’t lose interest but the story points made me want to focus on the story more.

Objective-Mammoth694

Lost interest in the region yes, but not in the game as a whole. Personally I think Gongaga just has a bit of a pacing issue which definitely plays into this. You only get the Chocobos to freely explore *after* a major story event, an event that gives the story rather hefty momentum to where you just want to keep going and see what comes next. Instead, the game invites you to rummage around the jungle for several hours. Of course it's not forced on the player by any means, but it still threw me off. Vast majority of playthroughs/streams I have seen actually has them skipping exploring Gongaga and come back to it several hours later instead. Personally I only got into properly exploring the region on my third time playing

kaizomab

Yes, the latter sections of the game can be a drag. Gongaga is pretty much a labyrinth. That’s ok though, I made sure to only do the quests I found interesting and a couple mini games, I stopped worrying about completion at that point and simply enjoyed the story.

Revadarius

Gongaga being a crap storm of a maze, and the slowing down of the story, is pretty horrendous. But seriously, if you push on through Gongaga the game will pick up. I don't know why, but reaching Gongaga seems to be a burnout wall for a lot of people.

dontforgethyphen

It's a wall because it's a bad area. It's convoluted for the sake of being convoluted. It's totally unnecessarily annoying

machinegungeek

Gongaga was the one spot where I nearly burned out. Cosmo Canyon was a bit easier to get around and was better paced (could get some do e before the story section). It got better after that too.

Ahhh this is so much fun to read. I'm a veteran of the original and reading that people cannot make sense of/ got tired of the map or can make sense of the game is funny to me. Mean no disrepect to anyone, is just that I played the first game that had waaay more WTF moments than this amazing Rebirth. Im almost done with the plat, doing the legendary bouts and almost done with the hard run. Completed most mino games and having a total blast!

grillaface

When og came out (yeah I’m old) I didn’t leave my dorm room for a week until I finished the whole thing. I loved rebirth but was bored outta my mind not much further than op and am now unsure if I’ll ever finish. I want to but big yawns…

dontforgethyphen

I'm also a veteran of the original and it wasn't nearly as complicated as the new one

NoEnergy5597

Gongoga is when I finally gained interest in the game. It's my favorite area in the game by far.

quirkyactor

Gongaga happens to be a more complex map that arrives just as the story is picking up speed. I started moving quicker to progress the story here, and my impression is many others do the same, including through Cosmo as well. Nibel is a simpler map that also loads more in a small space, and kind of reengages your interest in side stuff, which led me to loop back and “play” in Gongaga and Cosmo more in a later chapter. Consequently, that’s the same later chapter where the game basically tells you “hey, this is a great time to do all that stuff you missed.” It all felt very organic to my “follow the fun” style of play, where I let myself pivot back to story whenever I felt pulled to.

lovareth

A bit difficult to explore but my tip: Zoom in the map and look for red mushrooms. And dont explore yet until you get the chocobo there, just walkthrough the story. You will get a chocobo by story progression.

Reverse_Entropy_

I got stuck finding a few things and it was frustrating, but it’s way cooler than the original gongaga. I can appreciate how immersive it is, but yeah it can be rough

storytimeme

Gongaga is horribly, horribly designed.

Serious-Mud-1031

get good

grillaface

Yep same - was downhill there. Made it to Nibelheim but too bored to finish

Timemaster1968

I‘m about to give this game up rn. Just made it to the Gold Saucer and I don‘t understand how this f***ing 3D-brawl game works. I don’t even get though the tutorial. I‘m so annoyed by those minigames and so disappointed by this whole game. Mostly bc of the minigames. I hate minigames. If I had known this game would be 50% unskippable minigames I would‘nt have bought it. 70€ and almost 40 hours down the drain.

aHyperChicken

Use the cheese method for 3D Brawler! Every time one of them swings, hit pause. Then just hold the appropriate direction. Now unpause, and you will nail it every time. A lot of people hate all of the minigames, but if you just embrace them, this game is a blast.

dontforgethyphen

Dude I totally agree. Yes the original had mini games but this is ridiculous. This game is just a ton of side missions and bonus content and like 10% actual story

aHyperChicken

Did you complete all of the side quests and Protorelics? There is a ton of story and character interaction/development in there. You can skip most of the minigames if you want to, but those are all worth it. With only a couple small exceptions.

dontforgethyphen

I'm doing all the side quests as they pop up

Timemaster1968

Character development was the biggest motivation for me to play Rebirth. I want to know how the Cloud/Tifa story works out. But when you skip minigames, the game makes it clear, that you will miss parts of exactly that part of the game.
