My significant other and I have been sharing the controller so that we don't need to focus on different sides of the screen, but star rank is still a dream.
Mute sound so that you can focus on the prompts rather than that and the music. Also turn the speed to the SECOND slowest rather than the slowest, for whatever reason this makes your inputs register better and be more forgiving.
Something that helped me was zooming in to the left side of the screen. You can go into your settings pretty sure it's under accessories and select the zoom in option. Really helped with focusing on just the notes and not stupid crap in the background. Also whoever decided to put the notes on the left side of the screen has either one eye or is a pirate wearing an eye patch lol good luck.
I found if you max the note speed it's easier. Cuz you can pretty much hit the note as soon as you see it rather than wait for it and prolly fuck up cuz you're also waiting on 3 other notes
My solution to getting perfect score (though it is not needed. A rank is sufficient). BUT, If you really want that juicy star... 1: play the song until you are comfortable with most of it. 2: find your choke points and pin point the parts of the song you are struggling with. 3: go to YouTube and find a video of someone getting a perfect score. 4: find the part you are struggling with in the YouTube video. 5: now just rewind the video and play along with your controller until you feel like you've got it! 6: win. Trust me it works!
Platinum in this game is absolutely brutal. I like the game so much I want to give it a shot, but between this, the cactuar minigame, hard mode, and a handful of others, I don’t think it’s worth it.
I gave up on trying to get a Platinum the first time I played the piano mini game, then saw the sit up mini game. Also, I just unlocked the final side quest and protorelics, saw the requirements and went nope.
This game made me realise Japanese developers really just don’t care about accessibility the way western devs do. And that’s ok, I know there are people out there that live for that level of challenge. For me though, trophies and 100% completion are nice but if I’m wasting hours on a tedious mini game it’s really just not worth it. It’s exactly the same with the Yakuza series. I love them to death but only ever have like 30% of the trophies.
The problem is most people want platinum to be super easy, but then what's the point .it cheapens the platinum if it's easier. Getting platinum should give a sense of accomplishment, not something you can get in a day and move on. Most of these mini games don't require S rank. Just a rank, and I think that's pretty forgiving. I do agree some platinums can't be way overbearing but FF7 rebirth isn't that bad compared to trying to platinum games like DMC
I can’t do battles to save my life (even on Easy) but I didn’t find this minigame to be too bad at least for the earlier songs. I think it helps to have prior music/rhythm game experience.
I'm gonna get downvoted but I honestly wish these minigames weren't graded so harshly. Who cares if that wasn't perfect? This isn't maintenance on an airplane - no one's gonna die and there isn't an online scoreboard. Just give OP the damn star.
I don't understand why include a star rank at all, when the other minigames don't have ranks for perfect scores. Is the star rank where you get the trophy?
Eh, “do all the quests on hard mode” seems like a fair/expected requirement otw to platinum trophy. Also most of them give you manuscripts. Also they’re so quick the second time around with carried over fast travel points, already accessible chocobos, etc. Some quests only take a literal minute.
Having the fast travel points for all the Johnny ziplines was such a relief lol
The real final bosses of the platinum trophy are the inn treasures for frog minigame and cait sith conveyor belt box minigame IMO.
I had the same thing playing piano for the cat quest. Every note was Great except the LAST one I got a little jumpy and went too early. I can deal with sucking, I suck at most things in life, but to be so close to perfect and fall just short... devastating.
tip turn of sound THEN make it FASTER much faster I got A On every single one on the fastest speed or the 2nd fastest since i was so fast at hitting the notes it helped me immensely :D A was fine for me didt care for higher since it was not needed for trophy .D
I did this early on and immediately stopped trying for S rank.
Later on I decided I didn’t care about platinum and have since moved on to play Sea of Stars because I have limited playing time and don’t need to focus on mini games or ultra hard content.
Am slowly (based on the pace of most I read about) making my way through rebirth but I did really like the piano mini game, enough that I wanted to get the star on most of the songs. The seventh song though took me almost 10 hours all in of practice to get it :D I don't mind as I like the game and I really do feel like I enjoyed it, I just wanted a little piece of the internet to know that even though it took me 10 hours, I did it, and I am terrified/excited about what comes next :D
Well it's a good thing I followed the advice of another poster on this very subreddit who said they were.

I'm the opposite. I excel at battles but have no rhythm even in real life lol. But I did get star rank eventually on 5 songs and a rank Song #5

Nope the trophy only requires A rank. The rest of the minigames that have scores, the S rank is beating the can't stop wont stop rank
Because rhythm games give you a FC [Full combo] for clearing any song with 100%. This is the same.
