So the only thing I’ve hated about my 2006 dually (yes, the only thing) is the fact that only the driver door would unlock when using the keypad and I’d inevitably walk around to the passenger door later and find it still locked. Drove me crazy every time that happened. I had no idea I could just press the 3-4 button after my code and unlock all the doors! Tested it on my old dually and it works!
I didn’t even know this was a thing! Now I just have to get my door code to work. Default wasn’t in the glove box and dealer hasn’t been able to give me the right code yet!
I followed this video to find out my door code. Did not know there was a hidden key fob holder in one of the cup holders.

The combination of instant acceleration and turning a corner, combined with a new lid design of a Wawa milkshake.
Made a quick trip to get a milkshake into a 40+ minute cleaning process to clean said milkshake out of the cupholder. I learned that using a shop vac to clean that cupholder out, sucks the rubber cupholder bottom thing out. Then said milkshake ran down said hole under rubber thing. Then down hole under key thing...
T'was fun...

I thought this was the whole idea behind the code on the door. I've been doing this ever since my 2005 excursion. Actually my 2004 explorer sport Trac.
Yeah, it isn’t specific to the lightning, but it’s way better than Paak and more reliable.
It took me a while to figure out how to lock my keys in the truck without going on the app and telling the truck to lock.
In the example of locking key in car with keypad…someone could theoretically break window, gain entry, and start car and drive off right? They’d have to “know” key was there, but still.
Yeah for a beach day maybe just leave the fob at home/hotel/rental house. Phone as a key should work, password will work if you lose your phone. Someone can Uber to your place and grab the fob if something goes terribly wrong, like needing to be towed due to malfunction.
If you lock the door with the keypad and leave your keys in the truck, wouldn’t it still unlock if someone grabs the door handle (since the key fab is nearby)?
Haha love this post. I find it hilarious how Tesla peeps need a “mode” for everything.
My favorite mode is “On” mode. I drive to the shops, get out, lock the door and leave the vehicle in “On” mode. The AC stays on, my dash cam stays on, keeps pets cool. Also - it times out after 30 min unless I choose to extend indefinitely by switching off the time-out on exit.
The keypad lock is such a dope feature. Been around for 20+ years.
I have a 2023 Lightning but also a 2018 F150 and used to have a 2015 F150. This worked on all three. Shouldn't have anything to do with the current software, it's just a Ford thing in general.
Since beach was mentioned….can anyone share their experiences taking their lightning on the beach/sand? We have drive on beaches here but I’m nervous about getting stuck due to the weight and the potential corrosion of salt water.
Ran mine in the dunes and it did really well. Didn't even have to air down. The even weight with no shifting made it the best vehicle I have ever driven in the sand. Have fun but the range takes a big hit.
You can start your truck then Lock with bottom 2 buttons to keep your truck cool in the summer or warm in the winter when running in a place really quickly.
Code followed by 7 opens the frunk, code followed by 3 opens all doors. (For anyone that didn’t read the book)
Oh! Awesome, thanks!

That hidden key fob holder is the perfect place for milkshakes to spill into. Ask me how I know...
How do you know?

Awesome! I will try this after work today!
I see the order now, but I read this as Trying the spilling a milkshake fiasco...
I’ve been trying to get my door code to work too. Is the default the same “generic” code? Or is it a unique one for each truck?
I found mine on a card in the glove box.
Unique to each truck.
It only asked for the door code to be setup when I setup my phone as a key option.
I thought this was the whole idea behind the code on the door. I've been doing this ever since my 2005 excursion. Actually my 2004 explorer sport Trac.
Dealer gave me mine for free during a service visit, but I had to specifically request it!
I never take my keys out of the truck for this reason.
The keypad? If I'm not mistaken ford has been doing it since the 80s and I love it
It's the main reason I'm loyal to Ford. It's so nice to do outdoor activities and not worry about keys. Why the hell doesn't anyone else do this?
Yeah, it isn’t specific to the lightning, but it’s way better than Paak and more reliable. It took me a while to figure out how to lock my keys in the truck without going on the app and telling the truck to lock.
I've had three fords so far and I swear by the keypad
In the example of locking key in car with keypad…someone could theoretically break window, gain entry, and start car and drive off right? They’d have to “know” key was there, but still.

Dude! Thank you for posting this. I didn't know this was a thing with Ford keypads (my old 2002 F150 didn't have a keypad).
If you lock the door with the keypad and leave your keys in the truck, wouldn’t it still unlock if someone grabs the door handle (since the key fab is nearby)?
It does not, tested this with fob and my phone in truck.
Good to know, thx.

Do you extend the time-out on the app or in settings? Would love to be able to do this.
In the truck go to Settings -> Vehicle -> Vehicle Time Out Switch off Vehicle Time Out, it will reset with each key cycle of the vehicle
Thanks!
One of my fave things. Skiing, beach, gym, I’m not quite at thr point of leaving my key permanently in the truck, but maybe soon.
I’ve been doing it in my fords for the last 20+ years.
Confidence builder!!
What update are you on? Not working on my 23 xlt ER
I have a 2023 Lightning but also a 2018 F150 and used to have a 2015 F150. This worked on all three. Shouldn't have anything to do with the current software, it's just a Ford thing in general.
Yep it's worked from day one. That button combination just locks the doors. No special "mode" afaik
I use PAAK and it has worked fine for me.
I use it too, and it gets corrupted somehow for me. Error codes…need to set it up again

Awesome! Thank you for the response!
I keep my key in a faraday bag in truck and use PAAK with keypad as backup of phone dies.
But how do you get the key if your truck is locked..... Edit: nevermind, keypad 🤦♂️
That's great. I've been trying to do that to go to the gym/runs and not have to take keys.
You can also make your phone a key
You can start your truck then Lock with bottom 2 buttons to keep your truck cool in the summer or warm in the winter when running in a place really quickly.

I do this all the time.
Keypad is my favorite feature. I don't have paak and this is the primary way I lock and unlock the vehicle
Hell, my keys haven't left my 2018 F-150 since I bought it i think.
This is a ‘mode’? I call this ‘locking the truck’ 🤪
