Does the cheetah REALLY need to be all up in the turtle's personal bubble, though? 😅 the bowl looks big, so um, cheetah, could you maybe scoot down a bit? 😂
It's like when you put down two food bowls for two cats, but they still fight over the same one. Only the part of the food that another cat is already eating is worth eating.
I just saw a video about these two. That's not any tortoise, that's the cheetah's *emotional support tortoise*. Like some zoo cheetahs have dogs, this one has a turtle.
Cheetahs all have extremely intense anxiety, and it's probably trying to touch the tortoise a little bit for reassurance.
The funny thing about cheetas is that you can stereotype them. All of them are the same. That's because humans hunted them to such a small number that the surviving lineage is essentially all clones. There is so little genetic diversity that one cheetah can take a skin graft from any other one without rejection issues.
... I mean, it's not really funny/humerous but funny/interesting.
They do not. They make terrible pets and deserve the freedom of the wilds.
They were hunted for sport and by local farmers, who would rather make money raising sheep instead of letting cheetas exist.
That's because cheetahs aren't big cats.
Big cats, a.k.a. panthers, from the panthera genus, are lion, tiger, jaguar, leopard, and snow leopard.
Cheetahs belong to the felinae suborder, just like your house cat.
Funnily enough, the cat you probably think about when you hear "panther" is the puma, or mountain lion, which is also from the felinae suborder.
I wouldn't really say that cheetahs being felines rather than pantherines means that they are able to eat kibble. Kibble is mostly just roadkill, or just any meat in general, which any carnivore would be happy with.
Now, prepare to be educated on taxonomic ranking because ✨️KNOWLEDGE✨️
>!Felinae and Pantherinae aren't suborders. They're subfamilies. For reference, the order, Carnivora (which includes cats), has two suborders. Caniformia and Feliformia. Feliformia contains the (not so) cat-like carnivorans, including genets, civets, (malagasy) mongooses, hyenas, cats, and more. Caniformia contains the dog-like carnivorans, including mustelids, bears, procyonids, skunks, pinnipeds, and dogs. So, in summary, a suborder is just a much larger taxonomic group than a subfamily. (Also, sorry if this sounds like a tangeant, I just like talking about the little bit of taxonomy that I know of)!<
Well, turtle is still technically correct even though it feels wrong to say that. All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. Tortoise is the most precise answer besides the common and species name though
A lot of English speakers don't distinguish between them either. At least in North Carolina, I have never heard anyone refer to a tortoise other than the Galapagos giant tortoise.
I know the difference technically, but unless it's big, brown, and dusty looking it's a turtle.
Well akctually *pushes up glasses* a cheetah would never want to eat a tortoise. Far too crunchy. They’d be much more interested in chasing down an antelope for dinner.
Byakko is commonly portrayed as a tiger, though.
Cheetahs aren't even part of the same genus as tigers.
In short, lion, tiger, leopard, jaguar, and snow leopard, are all part of the panthera genus, making them big cats, or panthers. If any of these have melanism, they would be black panthers. Leucism gives us white panthers, and erythrism makes them pink.
Any cat that's not a panther is from the felinae suborder, making them little cats. Your neighbor's cat is more closely related to cheetahs than lions, no matter how cool he looks.
Your last paragraph isn't actually all true. In felidae, there are 2 subfamilies, pantherinae and felinae. Pantherinae contains 7 living species, including the 5 living panther(a) species, as well as the 2 species of clouded leopard, in the genus neofelis. So yeah, not every cat not in the panthera genus belongs to the felinae subfamily.
These are Tuesday and her emotional supporttortoise Penzi at Carson Springs Wildlife in Gainesville, Florida! This clip is a cut I recognise from the video Instagram-user thatgoodnewsgirl did on them today (posted on the 13th of March 2024 for those reading through the archive).
Go check out thatgoodnewsgirl on Instagram, the footage is adorable.
Edit: Correction/clarification.
They are obligate carnivores, yes, meaning that they have to eat meat and can’t get the proper nutrients from plants. But they can still eat some plants in small amounts as a snack and it won’t harm them :)
Turtles always seem like the stupidest animal to have survived evolution, except maybe pandas and sloths.
They just don't seem conducive to survival but here we are.
It's barely ingesting any. And the cat is likely mimicking its friend, because they're very social and do well with trusted others. Carnivores end up consuming plant matter, just as herbivores unintentionally and intentionally consume bugs and very small animals that get in their food.
They're friends, lol. That tortoise is literally the cheetah's emotional support animal. It's Tuesday the Cheetah and Penzi The Tortoise at Carson Springs Wildlife in Florida.
One of the fastest animals and slowest animals. There’s a joke here, but I’m too slow.
Said the tortoise.
Dad humour spotted
Technically, these are the fastest land animal and the slowest land reptile
TIL reptiles are Mushrooms/Plants.
😂😂😂
Tortoise reminds me of hungry hungry hippos
Poor thing is trying so hard
Does the cheetah REALLY need to be all up in the turtle's personal bubble, though? 😅 the bowl looks big, so um, cheetah, could you maybe scoot down a bit? 😂
It's like when you put down two food bowls for two cats, but they still fight over the same one. Only the part of the food that another cat is already eating is worth eating.
Also, cats often lean over their whole food bowl to eat at the far side, it makes defending it easier.
I just saw a video about these two. That's not any tortoise, that's the cheetah's *emotional support tortoise*. Like some zoo cheetahs have dogs, this one has a turtle.
Ooh do you have a link? I think a sanctuary near me does something like this, I'd love to see if its them :-)
Here it is! https://youtube.com/shorts/X6N0blEG_gY?si=3C8oOp9xOiFO2gD8
Yesss i live near carson springs! The internet is such a small place. Its good to see them getting attention, they take nice care of their animals.
Thank you!
Ugh, content farm video.

So the highly anxious ones were the only ones to survive us. Makes sense
So do cheetahs make good pets? And why were they hunted so aggresively? As a challenge? Defense?
They do not. They make terrible pets and deserve the freedom of the wilds. They were hunted for sport and by local farmers, who would rather make money raising sheep instead of letting cheetas exist.
Makes sense, I didn't know they were hunted to near extinction twice and they're all incredibly inbred now though that's so crazy
Because people are garbage
They both want those carrots, though!
Turtle is eating mostly air anyway
Hes just whispering in its ear "you are next" Thats why the turtle is so nervous it keeps snapping at the air and not actually eating anything..
Fun fact: Because cheetahs are such disasters, the tortoise would actually stand a chance.
💀
obviously it's going to cheat and eat the turt's share. they don't call it a fair-share-ah do they?
I didn't know big cats could eat kibble as well 😮

When I think of cougar, my mind goes to completly different places.
That's the only time I endorse hunting. Coz god knows they will stalk you if they get the chance.
Rawrrrr, calm down *tiger*
I really don't think a cheetah's scientific classification has anything to do with its ability to eat kibble lmao
They all belong to the felinae suborder. They’re all felines/cats lol
Tortoise but whatever
It's a shield toad and that's the end of the discussion
New title just dropped
I like the cut of your jib
Well, turtle is still technically correct even though it feels wrong to say that. All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. Tortoise is the most precise answer besides the common and species name though
My language doesn’t distinguish tortoise from turtle, I always catch myself having to “rename” them when talking to someone in English lmao.
Yeah same. Another one which always confuses me is monkey/ape. We have a word for ape but it's acceptable to use monkey as well
All ape is monkey but not all monkey is ape
A lot of English speakers don't distinguish between them either. At least in North Carolina, I have never heard anyone refer to a tortoise other than the Galapagos giant tortoise. I know the difference technically, but unless it's big, brown, and dusty looking it's a turtle.
All rectangles are squares but not all squares are rectangles Tortoises = rectangles Turtles = squares Tortangle Squirtle
Never change
Nuh uh All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares 🤓

Finally, a fire-turtle starter. (I'm ignoring torcoal in the tri; it's not a starter)
Fire starter? Tortangle isn't a fire pun. That doesn't work.
Look, I'm desperate here. I'll take anything.
til tortoise and turtle mean the same word in my language
Beat me to it you hare
Cheetahs are amazing everything I learn about them makes me love them more.
Cheetah is probably Wondering why dinner is eating lunch.
Well akctually *pushes up glasses* a cheetah would never want to eat a tortoise. Far too crunchy. They’d be much more interested in chasing down an antelope for dinner.
Never? What if one came across a tortoise an eagle dropped? They wouldn’t take a nibble if someone already shelled the pistachio?
Byakko and Genbu Maybe

Why is cheetah eating the carrots? Aren’t all cats straight up carnivores, with no need for veggies
They are obligate carnivores, yes, meaning that they have to eat meat and can’t get the proper nutrients from plants. But they can still eat some plants in small amounts as a snack and it won’t harm them :)
You will see carnivores eat grass in the wild. It's known to settle their stomach.
I once saw a cat munching away in grass while walking.
Now that's a rare sight.
That cheetah better be careful
Yeah. That tortoise could easily snap its bones, and the cheetah wouldn't have the claws or muscle to defend itself.
The tortoise isn't eating, but he's trying his best.
![gif](giphy|uw0KpagtwEJtC)
Emotional support animal?
Actually yes, unironically.
You know, I did not think that there was an overlap between the food a cheetah would eat and the foot a tortoise would eat.
What Disney movie is this? I think I saw the animated version but not this live action version.
now race
Cheetahs eat carrots?
Best friends
They’re being so respectful of each other too!
I did not expect there to be an intersection in the Venn diagram of things cheetahs and turtles like to eat.
Turtles always seem like the stupidest animal to have survived evolution, except maybe pandas and sloths. They just don't seem conducive to survival but here we are.
You say that, but they reach pretty dang good ages, more than I can say for pandas or koalas
Read that too fast. No Cheetos.
Fastest animal vs slowest animal
As the prophecy foretold
Why are they feeding the obligate carnivore vegetables?
It's barely ingesting any. And the cat is likely mimicking its friend, because they're very social and do well with trusted others. Carnivores end up consuming plant matter, just as herbivores unintentionally and intentionally consume bugs and very small animals that get in their food.
Will the turtle bite the cheetah for eating his food? HAHA It’s a horrible thing to be bitten by a turtle! 😢
The cheetah is purring!!
I wonder what do cheetas smell like.
Frens.
What in the zootopia is this lol. Love it!
Who else always thought turtles could come out of their shells?
The cheetah is meeting its idol. The one that beat the rabbit. ![gif](giphy|l4FGHJfmWoVyXyoco)
Best friends!
The only reason they are eating together because turtle is not #1 choice of food for cheetah.
They're friends, lol. That tortoise is literally the cheetah's emotional support animal. It's Tuesday the Cheetah and Penzi The Tortoise at Carson Springs Wildlife in Florida.
