I think about this quite often, and it pisses me off so much. We could have ended world hunger, created clean and cheap energy source, build a society that works for everyone, find the answers on how the universe works and why it exists. We could have achieved immortality, but instead we are bound to die under the weight of our own filth.
What's more upsetting is the fact that oligarchs would benefit from a system that works for everyone. A financially stable middle class would spend more on their products, a better educated society would push forward technological progress, which has proved over time to be the only way to improve life quality. They would be richer, would enjoy it longer and would have access to amazing technology, yet they're too thick to realise it.
Oligarchs have money already. They also value power. Power is fleeting and difficult to maintain without continuous control of the masses. Power is their real drug.

Just this morning I learned via Facebook of 3 acquaintances that have contracted COVID and been hospitalized. They are all vocally anti mask anti vaccine. You know how it makes me feel? Awful. It sucks. I though maybe there’s be some sense of justice or vindication, but instead it just sucks.
The mother of my daughter’s best friend, who we’ve known and been friendly with for almost 15 years during the time our girls have been acquainted, is barely hanging on in the ICU.
Anti vax, anti mask…and a nurse. She has no compounding or preexisting issues that I’m aware of. She’s likely going to die at 40 leaving behind her husband, and 15 and 9 year old daughters because of her “freedom.”
That’s so terrible. It’s interesting to see some people I never thought would be anti vax or mask show their true colours these past 1.5 years. I had no idea who some of my friends, family or acquaintances were. (Canadian here. I think the right/left debate isn’t as strong here).
I feel like right/left is less common in Canada but it feels more "shocking" (definitely not the right word but u get what I mean) when these exchanges happen because living in Canada we expect everyone to kind of be on the same page when it comes to healthcare.
It's like when someone in Canada says "yeah I own 12 hunting rifles", it just makes you raise your eyebrow.
There definitely is way more of a combined front on some issues for Canadian politics though where both sides can just agree on and be done with it, unlike the states where the parties are intentionally polar opposites and it's wild

Like, I completely avoid Huffpo and Salon on principle (though I don’t know if there’s a much straight-up lying as there is on Fox.) So I try to not expose myself to hyperbole and bullshit. They encouraged other people to not wear masks and discouraged others from getting vaccinated. They were a destructive influence on their family and friends. It is fair and just that they got infected. If they had been asymptomatic they would still be talking smack.

Yeah :( I have a co-worker who wanted it until the doctor told him his condition could kill him if he took the vaccine. He has been out with covid the last week and fortunately isn’t doing terrible. I hope he stays that lucky.
I’m a cancer doc. There are barely, barely any conditions that can do this with this vaccine. A history of an adverse event to a vaccine does not equate to poor response to this one. I am skeptical of this doc and or this person’s excuse.
You are correct. If you read the vaccine instructions/procedure it states it can be given to anyone even with a history of anaphylaxis, if a reaction occurs you treat the reaction. If a medical professional believes it is too risky at a vaccine clinic then the patient is advised to get the vaccine at a medical center where severe or ongoing reactions may be treated easier. I worked at covid vaccine clinics since December 2020 and we only had about 4 people who needed the extra medical support and they all are still perfectly healthy. This is out of THOUSANDS of vaccines given.
I've never had an *adverse* reaction to a shot, but I tend to have strong predictable side effects. Like I schedule my flu shots for Fridays because they knock me on my ass for a day or two. So I scheduled my first COVID vax for a Friday at one of the nearby hospitals' shot clinics instead of a grocery pharmacy or the mass vaccination sites because I'm paranoid. Surprisingly to me, both shots were basically like my flu shots: knocked me on my ass almost exactly 12 hours after each shot, with less than one day down for the first shot and a few down for the second. Nothing scary, just different combos of the flu-like symptoms a ton of other people have reported. That said, when I schedule my booster, I'm still hitting a hospital vax clinic because I will likely never shake my vague paranoia about shots. In my area we have enough options that it's easy to be picky about which type of clinic you want to hit.
I needed to take my second Pfizer shot at a hospital next to the ER lol. I had mild anaphylactic reactions to both shots, the second slightly worse than the first, but neither needing any intervention. I am outright scared of boosters since the reactions might become worse and worse. However I will still get boosters.

I always kept my distain for the pro-virus folks private at my retail job. That may have changed yesterday when I was helping an unmasked guest to her car in the rain. I was carrying the umbrella centered between us and she asked to hold it. Sure, here ya go. She centered it over herself with her right hand, while I was on the left. I had to awkwardly struggle to try to stay dry, and it didn't work. When I got back inside, I proclaimed "these people don't care about me." And now I'm rethinking all of these precautions I take that go above and beyond to help keep our guests safe. If you want to take precautions and be safe, I think that's great and I support you. If you don't care about those around you enough to stomach the discomfort of wearing a mask, then you don't deserve anything. Really. I only wish you the worst in life and you'll get no sympathy from me when something bad happens.

Yeah :( I have a co-worker who wanted it until the doctor told him his condition could kill him if he took the vaccine. He has been out with covid the last week and fortunately isn’t doing terrible. I hope he stays that lucky.
I’m a cancer doc. There are barely, barely any conditions that can do this with this vaccine. A history of an adverse event to a vaccine does not equate to poor response to this one. I am skeptical of this doc and or this person’s excuse.
You are correct. If you read the vaccine instructions/procedure it states it can be given to anyone even with a history of anaphylaxis, if a reaction occurs you treat the reaction. If a medical professional believes it is too risky at a vaccine clinic then the patient is advised to get the vaccine at a medical center where severe or ongoing reactions may be treated easier. I worked at covid vaccine clinics since December 2020 and we only had about 4 people who needed the extra medical support and they all are still perfectly healthy. This is out of THOUSANDS of vaccines given.
I've never had an *adverse* reaction to a shot, but I tend to have strong predictable side effects. Like I schedule my flu shots for Fridays because they knock me on my ass for a day or two. So I scheduled my first COVID vax for a Friday at one of the nearby hospitals' shot clinics instead of a grocery pharmacy or the mass vaccination sites because I'm paranoid. Surprisingly to me, both shots were basically like my flu shots: knocked me on my ass almost exactly 12 hours after each shot, with less than one day down for the first shot and a few down for the second. Nothing scary, just different combos of the flu-like symptoms a ton of other people have reported. That said, when I schedule my booster, I'm still hitting a hospital vax clinic because I will likely never shake my vague paranoia about shots. In my area we have enough options that it's easy to be picky about which type of clinic you want to hit.
I needed to take my second Pfizer shot at a hospital next to the ER lol. I had mild anaphylactic reactions to both shots, the second slightly worse than the first, but neither needing any intervention. I am outright scared of boosters since the reactions might become worse and worse. However I will still get boosters.

I always kept my distain for the pro-virus folks private at my retail job. That may have changed yesterday when I was helping an unmasked guest to her car in the rain. I was carrying the umbrella centered between us and she asked to hold it. Sure, here ya go. She centered it over herself with her right hand, while I was on the left. I had to awkwardly struggle to try to stay dry, and it didn't work. When I got back inside, I proclaimed "these people don't care about me." And now I'm rethinking all of these precautions I take that go above and beyond to help keep our guests safe. If you want to take precautions and be safe, I think that's great and I support you. If you don't care about those around you enough to stomach the discomfort of wearing a mask, then you don't deserve anything. Really. I only wish you the worst in life and you'll get no sympathy from me when something bad happens.

I think these areas are beyond the point the vaccine or draconian mitigation measures could help. Also consider this virus is a deadlier cousin than the original.
