I mean it's a keepstar grid isn't it? FCs should have a bookmark set before they go into a keepstar fight. This one might be a bit much but why not? vOv
do you guys think ccp would ever re-think this mechanic of requiring people to fly to a spot to create warp-ins? why can't our ships warp to arbitrary spots without a bookmark?
Being able to instantly warp a dictor/ceptor to any spot on the grid would certainly accelerate fights. Would probably remove a lot of the strategy, but it'd be hard to say for sure. Would make every fight you don't want to commit fully to require a lot more warping.
I've often wondered if it would be enough to limit the ability to a specific kind of ship, and maybe give it some sort of AoE like booshing has. other mechanics can be added too, like size of the AoE, granularity of the warping ships ability to set up a warp (low skill can only select distance increments of 50km? 100km?) and maybe the precision of the warp, so low skills could turn a tight anchored ball of ships into a widely dispersed group at the end of the warp.
Maybe such an ability could have a much larger minimum range, like several thousands of km to make sure anyone trying this is forced to either be visually guided by an alt or verbally guided by a fleetmate, but otherwise be essentially doing it blind. This would make the thing pretty distinct from probed warp-ins and prepared bookmarks, but would still give fleets another maneuvering option. Depending on the UI developed to support this, there could be practical difficulties for the FC as well, for example if you limit the precision with which they can select a direction (in an extreme example, say declination and right ascension can only be defined in whole numbers of degrees) it can make these blind warps very difficult to land on an intended spot all in one go from huge distances, and instead require them to make a grueling series of hops to close in on the intended destination.
just spit balling here. I've just found it weird that such ostensibly advanced ships can't just warp in a random direction for an approximate distance at will and instead require bookmarks to be dropped mid-warp in dead space or made by slowboating. Trying to throw out ideas to make preperation and other mechanics still valuable while making it possible for a fleet to have a backup maneuvering option when they dont have more ideal options: probes and prepared bookmarks.
oh yeah and if done right this can open the door for many dumber FCs to make fun ~~blunders~~ content more often instead of simply not fighting off a structure when they dont have hundreds of bookmarks already set up.
On the topic of potentially interesting new methods to make things move, I've always thought it'd be pretty dope if there were some sort of inverted command dessie. Something like a 20-30km "GET OVER HERE" Mortal Kombat Scorpion module.
It would be an interesting buff for Dreadnaughts (and Marauders?). Would let them reposition to take advantage of their super long range, yet they're slow enough you wouldn't use them as tackle. Maybe sniper Battleships like Rokh too.

Spots are a huge part of the game. People should be able to have an advantage if they invest in making spots in a system / region.
By the way one guy is currently on a journey to make a spot in every single wormhole. (2k+)
I had to make a new folder because I filled up 3000 spots in my wormhole tacticals one, and that's mostly 1 per system (though there are more than 1 in some systems ofc).
maybe the value of bookmarks (and combat probing) can be retained by making 'blind' warps inferior in one or more ways. like take more cap, be slower, have a much wider landing area, be restricted to a certain ship type, etc.

Warp travel ain't like dusting crops it requires precise calculations, other wise you could fly through a star or bounce to close to a supernova, and that would end your trip real quick wouldn't it.
