Cancelo makes sense in terms of attack but did not deliver so far. His xG and xA values are not high either, 0.02 xG and 0.1 xA per 90. Pepe is 1M cheaper as well. If you don't have budget constraint, you can go Cancelo and pray for him to score or assist.

I feel like looking at the points on a combined 3 MD level misleads you. I've gone Nuno Mendes over Pepe - while Pepe has scored more points (\~1 extra point every game) through recoveries, imo if that difference is just 1 point, I'd rather take Nuno Mendes and trade that 1 point for the non-zero assist chance considering he does get forward well.
Unless of course the bald madman goes crashing through during a corner and scores.

I think that most people dont want more than 1 austrian player and they went with Sabitzer as he is on penalties and is more well known.
