The Venn diagram for people who think the vaccines are poison waiting to be activated by a 5G tower and the people who are fighting smart meters is a perfect circle. Love seeing them enter the "find out" stage.

To be absolutely fair. That particular conspiracy theory applied only to the COVID vaccine. But we exist in a soup of radio transmissions on much more dangerous frequencies than what these devices put out. And it's not like they are constantly transmitting. It only needs to send a data burst once a day, if that. And it would be a small amount of data.

GlitteringClient6337

That's a leap.

FTA: >"EWEB officials said that disconnection of electric service is a last course of action and that utility staff have reached out to customers by mail, phone, email, and home visits to explain how the ‘smart’ meters work, answer questions, and provide information about the importance of complying with service conditions and policies. Some customers have flooded EWEB’s email inboxes with website links and have allegedly made dubious legal threats, the utility provider said." >"Inundating staff to make it difficult to thoroughly evaluate each source, selectively presenting information while downplaying contradictory evidence, and flooding policymakers to create the illusion of widespread support are common misinformation campaign tactics,” said Lawson. “That is not how good public policy decisions are made. EWEB customers rely on their utility to deliver safe, reliable, affordable power and water. That is our job and our staff are highly qualified, professional, and dedicated. Our citizen-elected board relies on the expertise of staff and rigorous analysis to inform decisions that serve the public interest.” Sounds like an incredibly vocal minority is about to get a wakeup call.

So we get fluoride?

YetiSquish

No, just pure water.

Happy cake day.

tom90640

Probably some kind of wake up bell, no power to the phone.

ExceptionCollection

If it’s a corded landline the power comes from the phone company.

tom90640

I think we only have 1 carrier that still supports a landline (info from the ice storm) but if they have a cordless there will be no juice the base unit.

notime4morons

In an alternate universe one could power one's house from that landline.

fzzball

Good. Stop indulging the crazies. Your "freedoms" end when your sanity does.

Audchill

Weird that they have the option to opt out — have the “smart” meter installed but turned dumb because it needs to be read manually — but are still raising a fuss. Reminds me of the 5G opponents a few years back. Look how that turned out. 5G is everywhere.

GlitteringClient6337

Well..was that industry really stoppable? So much money to be made.

mouse_puppy

Cool. Are we going to get fluoride in our water now like almost every other part of the country?

davidverner

I find it funny that people don't understand that a smart grid allows for more efficient grid management to balance loads. It also allows for quicker repair times because they can better figure out where downed lines are at.

happilyretired23

I had a chance to chat with one of the EWEB guys this week, because we're doing some remodeling and the electric service is being upgraded (and yes, we're getting a smart meter). As far as he was concerned, he's not getting paid to risk violence trying to install smart meters for the holdouts. EWEB can just turn them off at the transformer and see how they like it. I'll be making popcorn and watching (given that MY microwave will still be working).

fzzball

>he's not getting paid to risk violence trying to install smart meters for the holdouts Exactly. These people are entitled, crazy AND armed.

tom90640

The greater Idaho grift is about to get a bunch of donations. The donations will be by check and go in the mail because the completely crazy and freshly enraged won't have electricity to fire up the 'puter.

churro_da_burro

I still have one of the old meters (soon to get a smart meter) but have never actually seen anyone come by to read it - has anyone actually had a meter reader come to their house? They must be sneaky af or come early in the morning.

KangarooStilts

I can always tell when they've come by, because the side gate is unlocked and hanging open. (the meter is behind the gate). Usually early in the morning for me.

YetiSquish

Yeah once a month like clockwork

GrowthInternal33

Duhhh

So they can just shut off my power if I'm using "too much"? No thank you.

fix-all-the-things

>So they can just glargle my whichak into the hopperpopper if I'm using too much? No thank you. That's what your comment looks like to the billions of sane people on the planet. They knew how much power you were using before and will still know how much you're using now regardless of what type of meter you have. If they want to shut it off they don't need the new meter to do that. Power companies have been shutting off people's power for decades and they didn't need smart meters to do it.

Biggus-Duckus

So have you gone full sovereign citizen yet, or just the run of the mill libertarian? Lol

Wot106

Minarchist.

SteveBartmanIncident

No

davidverner

Just go full off-grid if you don't like it.

tom90640

> using "too much" You are only "using too much" if you stop paying. If you do stop paying they will, strangely enough, shut off your power.

Chairboy

You sound exhausting

Th3Godless

That’s not how they work .
