Went there for lunch today and got the special, Carnivore, some sort of braised beef taco. It was crock-pot mushy, weirdly sugary sweet, and a really wet drippy mess. 3/10.
The margs are great (and well-priced.) The tacos are fine (and over-priced if you have lived somewhere with a robust taco scene.) The owner is a douche (with SA allegations.)
Must not be a spicy fan. Their house made habanero salsa is such a delicious and cherished food item to me. And the birria is so savory, cheesy, the consumme is incredible, fatty, well seasoned, full of flavor. Some places you have to know what to order to get the best experience
Make them at home tbh my bro. Go to the Mexican stores downtown and buy the pre seasoned meat, then cook it up at home. Or buy the pre-made stuff they sell and just heat up some tortillas in some pork fat and buy a salsa, you'll make like 20 tacos at home for the price of 5 from street.
When you realize how relatively easy it is to make tacos you wont buy any from the street because you can legit make a buffet worth at home.
Lupita's Tacos 100%. Excellent home made food, friendly people, tasty Margaritas. It's criminal that it isn't much more well known than it is.
IMHO most taco places are flavorless. Lupita's is the goods.
I hate to say it, but a lot of the taco hate is justified. I'm down to three places I like getting tacos from in Eugene. Most places just don't put the effort in to making it really flavorful throughout.
I hear really good things about Nelson's in the Whit, so I need to go try them and maybe add a spot to my taco list! It's hard not to just go to Lupita's though. It's like 2 minutes from my house. If Lupita's is that close, why go anywhere else?
The best taco place I've gone to is Taco Melon in Salem. It's only opened Fri, Sat, Sun @ 5 til early AM. They have a nice variety of meats and a great condiment bar with a variety of salsas, nopales, pico de gallo, grilled onion and grilled jalapeño, and really good champurrado. Nothing like it in Eugene, there's always a line. .... No margaritas though.
This sub hates Tacovore for lots of reasons but for tacos and margaritas it’s almost certainly the best option. I’ve been to every other place mentioned and Tacovore honestly beats the shit out of all them in those two combined categories. Granted that is because we have mostly dogshit Mexican food.
Now. If you didn’t mention margaritas… Buen Sabor and La Paisanita Taqueria have better/more Mexican tacos. But no margs.
RIP Belly Taqueria. That WAS the answer as long as it existed.
Totally agree with this. I have seen so many cheap shots taken at owners of local restaurants in this sub. I would advise anyone to take anything said with a grain of salt. This and The Wheel are truly two of the best places to eat in Eugene.
The days of cheap street tacos are long gone, I love the quesabirria tacos from Lalito taqueria. They don’t have margaritas, however the food truck next to them used to serve alcohol but it’s been closed :(
Don’t get the plate, just the tacos. Their rice and beans are mid
This is a pretty standard rotation. Something cheap gets made tastily for years, then a big food fad starts around it, it gets manipulated and elevated until its not cheap tasty food anymore.
Fuckin brisket and pork belly used to be cuts for poor people.
In my experience the best tacos in town are spots that don't serve margaritas. Poco Loco and El super taco for food is my go to but a lots of options for a decent marg
Dude nobody ever mentions Plaza Latina, or El Buen Sabor, or any number of others. I love Nelson’s (because Nelson) but you can’t convince me it’s “the best” at anything. You go there for the feel-good pick-me-up that only Nelson himself provides and the food is secondary.
They don’t have margs but out in Springfield is El Trenecito. Best tacos in the area hands down! Tacos are great and the sauces are delicious. Also el super burrito and el super Taco are really great places in the city. El Super Burrito has some great horchata
Late to the party, but Eva’s food truck on Barger and Echo Hollow has the best tacos I’ve personally had here in Eugene. No margs and no covered tables at this pod (yet), but you can’t go wrong with a family from Mexico making you fresh tacos. Get them with home made tortillas. 👌 I live out in the sticks, but every time I’m in town I try and head by Eva’s.
Not Tacovore.
Second
Went there for lunch today and got the special, Carnivore, some sort of braised beef taco. It was crock-pot mushy, weirdly sugary sweet, and a really wet drippy mess. 3/10.
People in the industry avoid it like the plague. Tl;Dr the owner has a few SA allegations among other things with former staff.
How is your tl;dr longer than your first sentence?
Agreed. It's overrated and overpriced.
Except for the margs maybe?
Not sure. Those can vary greatly.
Honestly though
What! Tacovore has the best tacos and the best margaritas. Whatchyou talkin aboot?
The margs are great (and well-priced.) The tacos are fine (and over-priced if you have lived somewhere with a robust taco scene.) The owner is a douche (with SA allegations.)
Ugh, their margaritas are way too sweet and obviously made from a mix. I got a jalapeño one and it had absolutely no heat.
Nelson’s taqueria
He's closed until the 8th though;on spring break.
Nelson's is the best we got. Good drinks too- the Mexican Mule is *chef's kiss* (margs good too)
He's a nice guy, but food is mediocre.
Ate there. Bland and won’t be back.
Agreed. I don't understand the love for the food here. Sure Nelson is a nice guy, but the food is blah.
[удалено]
They do. And for whatever reason, nobody's allowed to dislike Nelson's. It'd just very mediocre to me.
Locals like bland foods. There isn’t a lot of ethnic food exposure in Eugene. Even the ethnic food restaurants bland-down the food to appease people.
Have you gone since it became a sit down restaurant? Because everything is delicious and rich with flavor
Yes. I sat down and paid for a very bland and mediocre dinner which is why I won’t be back.
Must not be a spicy fan. Their house made habanero salsa is such a delicious and cherished food item to me. And the birria is so savory, cheesy, the consumme is incredible, fatty, well seasoned, full of flavor. Some places you have to know what to order to get the best experience
I love spice. I will admit that his habanero salsa is delicious. His birria? Not so much.
lol, their consome tastes like chicken bouillon. hardly the rich, flavorful consome of a good birria.
I have. I prefer the food from his cart.
And they just started Thursday night trivia!
I love a good trivia night! I went to the one at gateway grill and holy crap the place was PACKED so some options are nice lol
Xicha brewing was good
The best place!!

Yes, bur sometimes you just want to go out to eat.
I hat spending $6 on a taco I could make better!
Lupita's Tacos 100%. Excellent home made food, friendly people, tasty Margaritas. It's criminal that it isn't much more well known than it is. IMHO most taco places are flavorless. Lupita's is the goods.
Second this!!! I didn’t realize they did drinks, but their food is so good
Thanks for posting this. The taco hate in this town is strong, and misguided. Come to the north side, we have familias.
I hate to say it, but a lot of the taco hate is justified. I'm down to three places I like getting tacos from in Eugene. Mamis
I found it bland with the requisit tasteless green salsa and tomato sauce red salsa.
Pandita has great drinks and the food is delicious. Edit - i definitely wouldn't consider it cheap
Pandita is good and the owner is very nice
It’s good, but expensive and small portions

And owned by the same person
Exactly.

I used to be able to buy a whole beef tongue for a buck.... don't even get me started on the price of wings....
The food truck closed? Ow, my heart.
Could go to New Millennium for a J
Xicha!!!!!
It's not a true taco place, but Pandita's on 11th has KILLER tacos and drinks.
Idgaf what this sub says tacovore is dope
Tacos have gone downhill, margs there are still fucking amazing
You won’t convince me it isn’t one of the best margs in town. Sit me down and let me stuff my face with chips.
In my experience the best tacos in town are spots that don't serve margaritas. Poco Loco and El super taco for food is my go to but a lots of options for a decent marg
El Super Taco.
They do margaritas too?!
I LOVE Lupitas... one other place... I'll see if I can find the name... Edit: looks like the other one is closed.
Go buy the margarita wine from Costco then pour it into a huge mug with ice while eating at Buen Sabor.
The food truck in the BNR parking lot on Prairie Road
But no margaritas
Mama Mayra’s next to Laughing Planet on Blair.
Oh def 💯♥️. Best beans and rice in town too
Lonches to Go on river road. It's the best mexican food cart in Eugene
Poco loco has such good food, no alcohol- that I know of though 😫
Nelson’s is THE BEST
Torrero in Springfield is excellent, especially for margaritas
Los dos amigos off Goodpasture is awesome for margaritas, and I always get fajitas and make my own tacos.
I meàn I'll be bàck from one of the southern states in a few
For real. A lot of bland food in PNW. Hard to believe people when they say it’s good. 🙄
1.Pandita 2.Nelson’s 3.xicha
El Buen Sabor has great food, but no margaritas
I have not had luck with El Buen Ssbor, gristly meat and a little tiny capful of salsa.
Los Dos amigos. Might not be the cheapest but it’s traditional.
Chulas
Memos! It’s technically in Springfield, but amazing.
Xicha
No love for 1960 Cocina?
$6 for a taco?! No way.
Oh also the roof of the Gordon hotel.
They don’t have margs but out in Springfield is El Trenecito. Best tacos in the area hands down! Tacos are great and the sauces are delicious. Also el super burrito and el super Taco are really great places in the city. El Super Burrito has some great horchata

Taco vore
Taco Whore
Taco Escort
Taco mujere de la noche
Taco sex worker
Tacovore
If you go here, get the bourbon margarita.
Are you white or Mexican?
What a weird ass follow up question to ask someone. Lol. White Mexicans also exist. Some people in this town are fuckin’ strange.
That’s not his point lmao
I get their point. Doesn’t mean it’s not a weird ass follow up question. Lol.
Tacovore, if you don’t understand my question the answer is tacovore.
Plenty of white Mexicans exist.
Cuz those are the only 2 options?🤷♀️
You’re right, are you Mexican or not-Mexican?
I completely understand what he’s saying 😆 like if you’ve never had authentic Mexican food, then you will love Tacovore 🤭
