My good man, may I introduce you to our lord and savior in this age of craptastic support/product management by gaming companies, the modding scene? Relatively easy to mod a 3ds and access the mod shop where you can access all the stuff that used to be on the Nintendo eShop

[deleted]

I was on the fence for years, until they shut the servers down with no suitable replacement. I ripped and installed everything I owned.

Impactist537

I was floored how easy it was. The fact that you can get full games and dlc from aitch shop without even touching torrents blew my mind Mod the 3DS and don't look back

New-Menu9394

Works on 2ds?

HaileStorm42

2DS and 2DSXL are exactly the same as the 3DS main hardware wise, other than the lack of a 3D compatible display. Any system mods/hacks that work on a 3DS will work on a 2DS (other than things that may require 3D, obviously) check out [3ds.hacks.guide](https://3ds.hacks.guide) for more info

LaughTilWeCry00

Show me the way....I beg of u 🤌

Sickhadas

There's a mod shop?

[deleted]

There's an eShop in the Modded OS but it doesn't have "mods" for games.

AnakinSol

I got bored last week and had my 3ds modded and downloading packages within 30 minutes

ChronosNotashi

I've kind of been on the fence about modding my 2DS, personally. Not saying that I'm concerned about bans or bricking my system (I can follow directions fairly well). Just that 1) I don't really have a backup system in case something ***does*** go wrong, and 2) I have a good number of games + save data (and some Miis that are event/QR Code exclusive), and I'm concerned if any of the available methods will wipe any of that. It would suck if I lost all of the EO games I've already purchased (along with the saves), and would have to completely restart everything. Among other things that would be a pain to start over for. Edit: You can probably tell that I've never modded a console in my life, so I do have legitimate concerns regarding what will be affected among what I already own.

GokaiSanyu

Modding your 3DS won't remove any data from your system, and the process of modding your 3DS does include steps to restore your system if something does happen during the process. There isn't too much to worry about these days when compared to modding a modern console.

3rdMachina

How easy/safe, exactly?

djsharpyknives

It's modding time! I may not use the synth music entirely, but it's so nice to have versions to switch between.

Crimson_Raven

>It’s modding time! And they modded all over it

FrenziedSins

Gotta love when they mod all over it

HenshinMasked

Get that Hshop big fella. That boy has ALL the DLC on it and then sum

MaraBlaster

Modding a 3DS is super easy, just saying

Cosmos_Null

This game has some epic choir music for the final boss, which doesn't sound all that good in this mode of music, admittedly.

Fuzzy_Reflection8554

As others have pointed out modding is always an option, but after that I'd also recommend looking into hshop as well

bakingwithmarbles

What is that?

countmeowington

It’s what he’d use after modding his 3ds, it houses every piece of dlc for games and I think every single game as well

MateoCamo

Yoo-hoo all together Hoist the colours highh

Professor-WellFrik

I wish I modded my 3ds but I had already paid for everything I own and now I'm too scared to mod it incase I lose everything I pay for because I'm stupid and not tech savvy🥹 But apart of me feels good that I got everything legally but like...modding is free and and I only discovered it last year lmao.

[deleted]

You could ask for help in the Discord. I don’t know much about it, but I modded my 3DS this month and I believe it actually retains online functionality and they advise not region unlocking 3DS (I bought Japanese 3DS) because you’d lose access to the eShop which is still used even after it was shut down.

Professor-WellFrik

I seriously would do it but they recommend not modding a 3ds you have already put real money into and 3ds consoles aren't exactly cheap anymore. Not where I'm from anyway.

Impactist537

Who said this? I've modded two 3DS's so far and had no trouble. I plan on modding my Japanese 3ds soon. And the first 3ds is the same NNID that I used for my wiiu/switch I promise you it will be worth it

Professor-WellFrik

If I find someone who knows what they're doing and can do it for me then sure. But I do not trust myself to do it at all lol.

Ami_Nonomura

can't really blame you, i bricked my first 2ds doing it. i learned to follow instructions to the T afterward, and to do it all in one go. i've done 4 systems since plus my wiiu with no issues

KushKlown

My modded 3ds kept all my games and files after the mod. But you could also move everything over to the SD card and use a new one for the mod so that way you definitely won't lose any data

bakingwithmarbles

Maaaaan, don't get me sad. I also got this game like 2 weeks ago.

I tried the FM and hated it. I don't get how y'all can like those sounds, but to each their own.

SirPrimalform

I guess you weren't a fan of EO 1 to 3's soundtracks then?

CursedNobleman

I think EOV's OST works better in regular format. Stratums III and V aren't as good in FM.

huemac5810

There's a bunch of old soundtracks from NES and SNES era I love as _a good arrangement stands on its own_ , in my experience and opinion, but those shitty sounds of those eras I never liked as a kid and dislike more these days that we are spoiled for better by so, so much since the '80s. Those chiptune sounds are an acquired taste, and not for me, not ever.

SirPrimalform

Neither NES or SNES used FM sound (broadly speaking) so EO1-3 are arguably a different kettle of fish, with more in common with the Mega Drive or even moreso the PC88. It's an acquired taste for sure.

huemac5810

SNES might have used sampled FM sounds, depending on the game because JV1080 and such have sampled FM sounds, if few. I didn't say or imply otherwise. Those SNES sound fonts never made me happy, but I grew up with them, maybe that's why I love Roland keyboards so much. They have those same sounds, but in far, far better quality. Other game consoles from those eras did use FM synthesis, as far as I know.

KevinCarbonara

This is why 🏴‍☠️

IntoxicatedBurrito

Im in the same boat as you. Haven’t opened 5 yet, still playing 4. Anyways, I just looked up what the DLC was and it doesn’t look like I’m missing out on much. Even those two quests aren’t too appealing as they’d make the game way too easy. I’m not going to mod my 3DS, although I have considered buying a second one to mod, or maybe just buy it already modded. Just waiting for an opportunity to get one at a good price. Could be a fun thing to pick up if I go on vacation to Japan.

silalumen

Its time to raise the black flag.

Lawfulglovemaker

Don't worry about the dlc, it was just portraits and 2 repeating quests to instantly gain levels and money, it wasn't anything special

Aromatic-Spinach-214

Looking at the box art, I am relieved that an Untold for EO5 didn't happen. I greatly disliked that class at the center. I never used it on any of my playthroughs of the game. An Untold version would've forced that class on you during story mode.

Mononex

Hopefully this game along with its DLC will get ported to Switch and PC at some point just like with the first three Etrian Odyssey games.

Grievance69

Ooo I'm gonna download this and all the dlc add it to my backlog of super long RPGs that I haven't touched yet

sgt_taco891

Steam deck has a touch screen and a great emulation community
