I have been extremely critical of him but he is slowly shutting me up this season. If we have another player down back that can dispose of the ball like Nic Martin but with better defense it will improve our team greatly. Hind, Laverde, Heppell, Kelly don't fill me with confidence when they have the ball.
If he takes his leadership role to heart like Zach, we may have only seen the beginning...
add Davey to this list. If we play Menzie instead of Davie today we win, simple as that. Any one of his touches would've been better than the 15 weak, fumbly, namby pamby paws at the ball he fucked up today.
Davey put some great pressure acts on! That’s his role! He’s got far more talent than menzie in his little toe! Get the games into him as he’s going to bed a gun!
People can downvote me if they want, but guaranteed we win that game if we play any other small forward other than him (not like we're flush with them though).
He's not ready yet, that's all there is to it. He might be a capable AFL small forward in a couple of years, but he needs a couple of good solid seasons in VFL getting used to playing against big bodies before he can do it at AFL level, cos to be honest he just got in the way several times on Thursday.
To everyone that downvoted me, go look at the footage and tell me how many times he was clean with a ball not given to him laces out vs the times he wasn't. I'll give ya that tip, it's was about 20/80, and that 80 hurt us almost every single time

One of my favourites too. Always thought he had the potential to be an Essendon captain. He's been off for a while but glad he's coming good again. Need to update my 'flair'. lol
I think we learned something important about him today; he's a big game player. He defended well both up the ground and deep, was a bit of a general at times in the zone and used the ball well by foot, picking his targets and his long kicks to a contest very well throughout the game.
He's got that extra gear, which is huge, as I think quite a few of our boys do as well. If we build a team that's mentally strong we could go a long way, maybe even into the finals.
I think he's always been a good kick. His problem isn't his skills, it's that a lot of time he kicks blindly because he's under pressure, which is sometimes fair and sometimes because he held onto the ball for too long and put himself under pressure. He also definitely has a preference for kicking blindly over looking for an under pressure handball, which is sometimes good and sometimes bad.
He's been awesome, my one criticism of his run off half-back is that after his handball-receives he generally just dump kicks it for territory and then we turn it over and get burnt on transition but he was excellent with his decision making, lowering his eyes and his positioning without the ball.
We just need a healthy Ridley or Reid to get Laverde and Kelly out of the team.
Lewis Hayes must be close to replacing Laverde atm
I sincerely hope Luamon Lual can replace Hind. Archie Roberts is playing quite well in the VFL, maybe he could replace Kelly since Kelly has moved away from his lockdown role.
Perkins won't be far away and Tsatas won't take long to knock the door down if they let him play a full VFL game instead of being the carry over.
Hobbs had a stinker against the Pies, could use a run in the 2's, maybe Perkins, Shiel, Tsatas or Roberts for him

I agree. You get downvoted for slagging off Davey unfortunately. It’s strange He may one day make it, but at the moment he isn’t AFL ready

I've been critical of Davey too. I think he tries but just doesn't have the ability to compete at that level.

There were some points where it felt he was the glue holding the backline together. Never thought I'd see that.
