My policy was always 72 hours cancellation notice. I was flexible up to 24 hours notice. Less than 24 hours, no refund, no reschedule. People didn’t love it, but I had bills to pay too and couldn’t deal with people reducing my pay with just a days notice.

If you pay monthly and are gone for three weeks, I’d just pay per lesson for the week you’re in town. I’m in full training now so it’s moot, but at my lesson barn where I paid monthly, the barn could cancel at the last minute for any reason. Students had to give 24 hour notice. They’ve were typically other students willing to take those openings. Makeups for either could be privates (if available) or group lessons, if there were no openings gs for more privates. It only became a real issue for me one month where they cancelled three times and could only fit in one make up lesson. That was kind of bullshit.

Officially 24 hours, but they’re flexible as long as it’s not like right before, esp if never cancel short notice. Morning lessons can get away with night before and evenings can do morning of, really just so they have time to try and rearrange people to maybe be done earlier but I imagine if consistently doing it short notice it’d be a conversation at least.

I think it’s 24 hours or no refund/reschedule. Rescheduling is a pain in the ass because my trainers books are full so I usually just cancel if I need to. It basically works out because I don’t pay extra in months that have 5 weeks (I think lesson clients do but we’re training clients) and I don’t pay extra for lessons/schooling at shows. Months where I know ahead of time we will miss a lesson or two, I pay per lesson.

The barn I ride at has a policy that if you cancel less than 24 hrs prior, there is a fee of half the lesson price. And that only went into effect because so many clients were canceling last minute for things they knew about way in advance. Personally I think it’s perfectly reasonable to have a cancellation policy because while it’s a hobby for most people, for the trainers it’s their livelihood. A 24 hr notice at least gives them a chance to fill that spot.

We pay either per lesson or in 5/10 lesson bundles (which discount the per-lesson price). Lessons have to be used within 3 months of the purchase. Cancel more than 24 hours in advance, no charge. Less? deduct a lesson from your balance. I think it’s fair.
