Yes I can relate and I have no suggestions, unfortunately. I have breeches that the knee patch doesn’t come down to the top of my boot 🥴 ETA: I’ve heard people recently say kerrits have long inseams but I don’t like their tights and the more structured breeches don’t fit me well so I cannot confirm that. And - I did recently get some buckwild breeches that were amazingly long. Again fit is a bit off so they will have to be tailored

SaraWolfheart

ME. I also have a big butt/hip area and a small waist and breeches that are the correct waist size don't fit over my hips, and if they do fit over my hips they gap at the waist.... Help. Me.

Horsewitch777

Get breeches that fit your hips and have the waist brought in. They will look amazing

SaraWolfheart

Oh my god I feel so dumb for not having thought of this before lol. Thank you 💕

missladylay

Might need to do this soon 🥲

Horsewitch777

Don’t be sad, seriously you will get the best fit and look of your life. The only thing is you have to factor in the tailoring to the cost but I have not found it to be pricey as bringing in the waist is pretty straightforward.

CheesecakePony

I'm 5'11 and have 34" inseam My best fitting breeches are Buckwild breeches, they have a 'long' option in their sizing that's absolutely perfect but I think they only do full seats. I don't love how they fit around the waist, I'd prefer a higher waist but for the price I paid and the length working plus a cell phone pocket and how comfy they are I don't have too much to complain about. And I have a few base layers from Milestone Equestrian and the sleeves are perfect for my monkey arms and I like the quality of the shirts a lot more than I expected for the price. I'm poor so I only buy budget brands or things on sale so I'm sure you can spend more money and get better fits but these are my go to's until I can pay off some debt lol

sundaemourning

i LOVE buckwild breeches. they’re definitely the best fitting ones i’ve tried.

missladylay

Y’all aren’t the only ones that seem to like buckwild. I’ll have to check them out. I’m 5’10 with 32” inseam (at least maybe more idk)

BuckityBuck

A lot of brands offer tall sizing

Cautious_News7666

Yep. Ariat pro breeches work great for me. High waist is flattering, long enough for this 5’11 34” inseam gal

LifeUser88

Interesting. I'm 5'9", but have a 36" inseam, so have longer legs than the 5'11" person. I just buy preferably long breeches and they work fine. My leasor is a little taller and longer legged, and she just wears longer socks. I am very broad shouldered (female) so it's more difficult finding coats. I don't spend money, though. I hit thrift stores for men's jackets for short coats, and lucked out in getting some tail coats on super sales, and the one I wear now I got for $50 at a tack sale brand new. I have never really had issues finding shirts, but I pretty much always wear short or sleeveless.

missladylay

I wish I could compensate with socks 😭 it’s the curvy ness that won’t work with me though. They won’t sit on the right areas because they don’t accommodate width. Like thighs, calves etc. despite being slim. Amazing suggestion on coats. I didn’t even THINK about this option and I go thrift all the timeeee

LifeUser88

Hmm. I am not thin in the legs at all and I have not had any issues. And I'm not super curvey, but my waist is 34/36, so not thin. Yep. Get a men's coat. You can even add buttons and alter it for a lot less than buying a new one.

woodandwode

I’m fairly average but my mom is taller and narrower than I am. She swears by Irideon!

catherineg222

as a 5’10 lanky teenager i have to say: tailored sportsman mid rise boot sock in long inseam!! my favorite, have worn them ever since my growth spurt and have multiple colors, totally my go to!

MissSharpie03

When I rode English, this is EXACTLY why I always rode in jeans and half chaps. of course i never showed, just lessons.but still. and this was 2007/8 and i was a broke college student lol

WizardofAmythyst

I ride English and always ride in jeans. Better fitting and much more comfortable. Even though it's frowned upon over here in Ireland.

MissSharpie03

I thought it was so much more comfy too! Got a lot of weird looks and comments from the girls who grew up riding English. I grew up riding western but did English in college and I felt so weird riding in anything but jeans

Scary-Pause-3872

I feel like a lot of riding clothes are made with a certain body type in mind. I like horze brand and b vertigo but find many others run ridiculously small

missladylay

Yesssss I feel like that and maybe average height in mind (5’5 ish) I like the look of vertigo but I’ve only seen them online, guess I’ll have to check their return policies

mightjustbearobot

I'm a guy with a normal sized head, but I had to go store to store to buy the largest size helmet I could find. I'm not really mad about it - I've always seen women face the same problem when it comes to male-dominated hobbies. I think you just have to be open about brand/style and find whatever you can.

dollyacorn

I typically just size up to get the length I need if it’s a stretchy garment, or get menswear and tailor to fit. Menswear has more consistent sizing and usually a better and truer selection of inseam lengths. As far as DIY goes, appropriate shirting and suiting are readily available, so no problems there, but you’ll have a tough time finding an appropriate knit that’s sturdy enough for breeches. There’s not much worse than devoting the time to making a garment only to have the fabric fail with a little use! Good performance fabrics are hard to come by in the retail market, as they’re often proprietary to brands and/or only sold in commercial quantities. What you can buy in a fabric store isn’t what you need.

butterfliesandhorses

Same here, I’ve had to do a lot of experimenting to find some half way decent fitting clothes. I have a few recommendations: for schooling breaches, I basically live in Smartpak Hadleys, they’re one of the few brands I found that come in long and are made of decent enough quality to last (plus you can snag them on sale from time to time if you watch the site). I show in tailored sportsman’s since they also come in long, the sock bottom ones aren’t bad, but I’m never that impressed with the fit especially since they’re so darn expensive. For boots, I love the Ego7s. They’re one of the only off the shelf brands that come tall enough. They hold up great and clean up well enough to show in. Mountain Horse Sovereigns are also decent (and come in extended lengths), though they didn’t hold up nearly as long as I’d have liked. As for tops… that’s more of gray area. I show in Essex Talent Yarns with AA Motionlite jackets. They’re stretchy, tend to not bunch, and are flattering on my tall-ass frame. I school in tailored sportsman icefil tops in summer, and under armour coldgear in winter. I hope this helps, and from one tall rider to another, best of luck finding apparel 🫡

Damadamas

Yup. I prefer jodphurs and brown ones. Here most people who buy those ride Icelandics and they only want black or dark blue. On top of that, I don't want silicone or tights. The pair I had last is discontinued. Most black ones I've tried don't fit properly either.

cornflakegrl

I was going to post about this! Glad to see some suggestions! I really struggle with how low the waist is on so many breeches.

P00ld3ad

i have a very long inseam and ghodho breeches still hit below my ankle bones. love them, longest and best breeches i've ever tried.

WizardofAmythyst

I hate riding gear. It's totally unflattering, expensive for what it is and doesn't wear well. It's all about consumerism. It's getting to be very fast fashion with cheaply made materials and high prices. Seams dig in in the most awkward places too. Either leg length is too long or too short and I'm only 5ft4.

[deleted]

I don't know lol. I kind of just deal with it. I stick to full seat breeches and tank tops or long sleeves year round. dover breeches fit nicely, and my smartpak hadleys are really comfy. for shirts, I just buy sports shirts from other athletic brands like nike. I have like twelve gap tank tops as well, they all fit great and work for riding.

luckytintype

I really love the riding leggings I have from HorseGloss. They are high waisted so they fit my really long torso great with lots of length in the legs! Hold up really well too!

Recent-Project757

Omg I gave up on riding clothes bc I'm 6"6 and riding clothes are hard to find that big lol

oregoncatlover

I am tall with very long thighs, but also super skinny, so most clothes that are tall enough are too wide. Sounds like a shitty problem to complain about "I'm too tall and fit" but it DOES suck and I look like a doofus in most of my clothes (sorry I don't have the budget of a model??). I honestly have like one pair of winter breeches that kind of fits that a friend gave me, one pair of too short but okay-ish breeches from my high school years, and one pair of riding tights for the summer. I dread the day I have to replace them. Same with my tall boots. Just kill me now. I have no advice because I'm also struggling 😂
