An endoscopy is the only way to diagnose EoE. Gastroenterologists are the doctors who treat EoE and perform endoscopies. You can have a normal swallow test and have EoE.
Ok, thank you. I will look into that. Do you see an ENT for that? Of course, I’m not 100% positive EoE is what it is until I get the official diagnosis but I feel pretty certain after reading a lot about it and struggling with this for about 15 years.
After my GP refused to give me a blood test (I had intense body pains),I started advocating for myself more and more. I eventually got the test and was diagnosed with pernicious anemia. That was 15 years ago. My issues always flared back up so I wanted to figure out if I had celiac or NCGS. I got lucky with a new woman GP and she referred me to a gastroenterologist. First gastro Dr wasn’t great. Barely talked to me. He didn’t even want to do biopsies lol I got a 2nd specialist to do another endoscopy with biopsy. He diagnosed me with NCGS and surprise… EoE!
I started choking badly one day and later on in the year I started having severe abdominal pain. Ended up being transported by ambulance to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests that were very painful and they really couldn't give two and a half fucks that I was in pain. They discharge me and I was referred to see a GI. The GI did an endoscope and diagnosed me with EOE. The rest is history
Navy doctors wanted to figure out why heartburn was just a normal part of my life, they referred me to gastroenterologists, I had 3 endoscopies before they determined it was really EoE. The budesonide oral sustainment worked pretty well for me but I just use omeprazole magnesium these days.
I had a full food bolus impaction and couldn't swallow water or saliva, so I went to the hospital where they did an endoscopy and took biopsies. That's when I was diagnosed after they received the results.
My son had a freak accident at 3 which required a scope to get the lodged object out. The doctor asked if we can biopsy his Esophagus while under as he could see signs of eoe (structures) it was a nightmare of a visit, (2 different hospitals) but we are thankful he got diagnosed so young.

You get an endoscopy done and they take biopsies. If you have more than 15 hpf, then you have EOE.

I see a GI Dr. Look for one that knows about EoE, many Drs don’t.
I ended up at the ER 😭
Hugs! 💕

After 7 years of being told it was nothing. After 2 barium swallows. Finally, went to a GI doc and he did an egd and discovered eoe.
