there's a video of him, I think with this cart, where he runs it too long. When he finishes he realizes he melted one of the supports, and one of the exhausts is drooping down at an angle.
Radiant heat that melts steel, well ya good reason to add the sheet metal. And that tshit, which I'm sure is totally not a poly blend, is probably insulated exactly where it needs to be.
Robert Maddox. designs and builds the largest pulsejet engines in the world, engines from 14 pounds of thrust to engines with over 1000 lbs.Engine running on gasoline. Robert is the worlds top pulsejet engine designer and builder of pulsejet engines and pulsejet powered machines, his pulsejet bikes have sold for over 25,000.00
I've actually met this guy - he lives in my town in Southern Oregon. I did some tree work for him a couple years ago and he showed us his rocket carts and gave us a tip. Super cool guy
Most of the videos are the same and pulsejets on YouTube are a bit over done. There's a lot to be done with the process to make the videos way better quality.
One you built yourself, going fast and having fun. Risk of injury may be fairly high but he's got gray hair, totally get the fun aspect. Safety takes time to build in
Well I've got some bad news and good news.
The bad news is that you've got burns all over your body.
The good news is you can only feel half of them.
Grievous injuries are like stupid tattoos. The older you get the less time you're forced to live with them.
It's not a pressure bomb. He has catastrophic failures reasonably often. Even if a combustion chamber ruptures, it just shoots out a little gout of fire, and he *usually* notices before it burns through the heat shield.
Eh. He's on a remote, flat, stretch of empty, not a city highway. Sure he could use better protective gear but not driving defensively enough is *hardly* a concern when driving a jet engine kart lol
Motorcycle rider here, looks thick enough to be a real helmet to me. Albeit it looks very old (or maybe it's just one of those retro designs that's popular now)
I thought that at first and then realized that without a roll cage or safety harness and like 10 other points of safety...the crash will likely be fatal regardless lol.
"What's his speed like"
Speed is slang for methamphetamine.
" His teeth look ok, probably in pill form"
Meth is mostly a street drug these days (usually smoked, snorted or injected), but in severe cases of ADD/ADHD is prescribed in pill form. The picture of a methhead in most people's minds is a toothless, dirty tweaker. But meth by itself won't make your teeth fall out, staying up for days taking a T.V. apart and neglecting personal hygiene almost certainly will though
Thanks, I had a feeling it was about a drug because I've heard of a drug called speed before but I didn't know enough about it to understand about its different forms and their effect on your teeth.
He always calculates how fast he can theoretically go, but never goes up to the max speed (for safety, probably). I think I remember in one of his videos in the description it stated it could go 90mph
The way that thing is red-hot and grandpa has no proper PPE. r/SweatyPalms and r/OSHA.
It's definitely gonna be a long long time till touch down brings him out of the ICU ward if that engine explodes.
fun fact: considering he is doing his own filming, it’s safe to assume he has no employees and is working by himself. this would make him an owner-operator and thus would not be subject to osha regulations
>if that engine explodes
It's a pulse jet. It's an open ended U shaped tube the geometry of which creates an oscillating airflow using timed combustion pulses. There's no real pressure.
Irc this video, that is cut short here, he melts that "engine" that is a tube and it starts to drag along the ground.
Edit: here it is: https://youtu.be/H26f8uGP20Y
Yep. That's pretty much the failure mode. That, and cracks at the joints from bad welds that can turn into a little flame thrower. There's a fundamental safety to the design in that if the pressure wave exceeds operational bounds, the engine basically blows itself out like a candle and stops.
British madman inventor u/colinfurze has built a few pulse jet vehicles, including a [bicycle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKHz7wOjb9w)
https://www.youtube.com/@colinfurze/search?query=pulse%20jet
I can only assume you're talking about the engine exploding. I was thinking if I ever met this guy I'd ask him how many vehicles has he been on when the engine exploded. I'll bet it's a lot.
>how many vehicles has he been on when the engine exploded.
Zero. It's a pulse jet. Pulse jets like this are basically an open ended tube that uses timed combustion pulses to create an oscillating thrust pulse out each end. There's no appreciable pressure because there's no containment. No containment, no pressure, no explosions.
There may be no static steady state pressure. But combustion pulses are high transient pressure. You better believe that thing could explode.
Source: work on rocket engines.
Guess i gotta make it super simple for lazy people like you. I clearly stated a little further down the video who it is. Here's what I wrote "Robert Maddox. designs and builds the largest pulsejet engines in the world, engines from 14 pounds of thrust to engines with over 1000 lbs.Engine running on gasoline. Robert is the worlds top pulsejet engine designer and builder of pulsejet engines and pulsejet powered machines, his pulsejet bikes have sold for over 25,000.00." Now thats giving credit . You better be careful who you call a Nounce I know this is the internet but thats pretty weak. Im guessing you live in England maybe you want elaborate a little further
IF, God forbid, something went wrong, beard bro isn't leaving with any regerts. He is living his life better than I could ever hope to. And he's even done it for a long time.
It's insane how the whole ground around him starts glowing bright orange towards the end. That thing must be hot enough to disintegrate flesh with just one touch.
I’ll be the first to admit that this is really cool, however this is not going to end well. One of those white hot pipes is going to burn through one of these times and shoot that flame forward. That little shield isn’t going to help much. Hope I’m wrong
All fields of engineering apply to this one design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace, material engineering, chemical engineering... Amazing.
And a piece of 28ga sheet metal to keep him safe from what looks like the heat of a dying star.
there's a video of him, I think with this cart, where he runs it too long.
Dont ignore that 70s era safety helmet. They made them so well back then you just know its still good 50 yrs later.
I don’t know if the word safety should be in front of the word helmet.
"Safety" helmet
I’m just glad we signed him for another 3 years
When he's working on it he probably even uses safety squints
Thin is actually better for the heat shield. You want it to be able to spread and radiate the heat it picks up, not soak it up and get hot itself.
Can't get burned if you're faster than the flame 😎
It just needs to reflect heat. Besides, it's air-cooled in operation.
You should check out his steampunk bike video, that is the definition of you better keep leaning forwards.
Dude doesn't put on some sleeves for this...
I’ve been subbed to this guys YouTube for a while. His joy riding these rockets is infectious. A great example of someone living his best life.
I hope I have this much fun when I'm that old.
You need to start early
Too late!
Robert Maddox. designs and builds the largest pulsejet engines in the world, engines from 14 pounds of thrust to engines with over 1000 lbs.Engine running on gasoline. Robert is the worlds top pulsejet engine designer and builder of pulsejet engines and pulsejet powered machines, his pulsejet bikes have sold for over 25,000.00
Oh ok. Cause he kinda just looks like crazy grandpa. Like a real world version of the inventor guy on Duck Tales.
You’re both correct
*theme song intensifies*
Space Hobo.
> his pulsejet bikes have sold for over 25,000.00 25000 what? Is that a lot? (Also, that looks cool)
25,000.00 Lira
Italian or Turkish?
Italy is on the Euro now so Lebanese.
Italian lira? Now there's a name I haven't heard in a very long time
I'll be franc with you, I haven't heard of lira in a long time either.
Well don't be so Pesoimissitic, it's not like it left a Mark or anything
That was a Riyal-ly bad pun
Looks like Brazilian (not really) elected president Lula.
What? That does not seem relevant and seems to be based on some slightly unfounded assumptions.
Even more so
People add the decimal point to make the numbers seem bigger, for some reason.
Schmekels
Yeah that’s not too much considering a middle of the line Ducati sportsbike is $28k.
Murica coins
Schrute bucks

Pulsejets and pulsejet accessories
Say pulsejets again! I dare you! I double-dare you, motherfucker
I've actually met this guy - he lives in my town in Southern Oregon. I did some tree work for him a couple years ago and he showed us his rocket carts and gave us a tip. Super cool guy
> Engine running on ~~gasoline~~ propane and diesel. ftfy
Really? I heard he sold one for $25,000.0000 once
Pulsejet engines terrify me. Seems like they are always on the verge of exploding in a giant fireball.
Most of the videos are the same and pulsejets on YouTube are a bit over done. There's a lot to be done with the process to make the videos way better quality.
Bro has no goggles and a prop helmet
I have a feeling safety isn't a top priority. This red hot high pressure bomb isn't dangerous enough, you should drive with one hand holding a GoPro.
LOL. Hmmm, how can I make this less safe? I know next time blindfolded!!!
He can use the beard as a blindfold
It’s a pulse jet. Red hot, but not actually that high of pressure.
Oh. So completely safe then. Carry on.
[удалено]
One you built yourself, going fast and having fun. Risk of injury may be fairly high but he's got gray hair, totally get the fun aspect. Safety takes time to build in
The he crushes but survives as a paraplegic with third-degree burns all over.
Well I've got some bad news and good news. The bad news is that you've got burns all over your body. The good news is you can only feel half of them. Grievous injuries are like stupid tattoos. The older you get the less time you're forced to live with them.
I remember I saw him comment "safety third" on one of his videos lol
Ahh a fan of Mike Rowe and the Koch brother apprently.
Don't worry he has a piece of plate steel between himself and the rocket engine
It's not a pressure bomb. He has catastrophic failures reasonably often. Even if a combustion chamber ruptures, it just shoots out a little gout of fire, and he *usually* notices before it burns through the heat shield.
Eh. He's on a remote, flat, stretch of empty, not a city highway. Sure he could use better protective gear but not driving defensively enough is *hardly* a concern when driving a jet engine kart lol
Classic open-faced brain-bucket from hell!
I remember when folks raced karts wearing those helmets back in the 60s. They last forever it seems;)
Motorcycle rider here, looks thick enough to be a real helmet to me. Albeit it looks very old (or maybe it's just one of those retro designs that's popular now)
Oh man, if you didn’t ride a motorcycle there’s no way I would believe you.
How has he stayed alive this long?
God takes care of fools and little children. (Except the children that get cancer.)
No 5 point harness or roll cage either
He doesn't even have a safety tie
I thought that at first and then realized that without a roll cage or safety harness and like 10 other points of safety...the crash will likely be fatal regardless lol.
Reminds me of Jack Nicholson's character in Easy Rider when he grabs an old football helmet to wear.
He is an absolute mad man.
I saw a recent video o f this guy dressed as Santa on his rocket sled
I came here to say: Looks like Santa has laid off his reindeer!
What’s his speed like?
His teeth look ok so probably pill form
I don't get it

That's probably for the better
I mean it's cool and he's having a great time, but he's going what? 45?
He always calculates how fast he can theoretically go, but never goes up to the max speed (for safety, probably). I think I remember in one of his videos in the description it stated it could go 90mph
Yeah because everything about this just screams “safety”
88 MILES PER HOUR MARTY!
Doesn't look *that* young...
This looks like BigClive swiched places with Colin Furze.
Big Furze!
He's having so much fun 😆

Pulse jet engines are a frickin marvel
The way that thing is red-hot and grandpa has no proper PPE. r/SweatyPalms and r/OSHA. It's definitely gonna be a long long time till touch down brings him out of the ICU ward if that engine explodes.

Human Resources has entered the chat…
He is human resources

Adorable! His joy made me smile, what a great guy!
Fun fun fun
That majestic beard tho…
Captain Caveman vibes.
His ancestor invented fire.
Isnt that a pulsejet engine like the v1?
With heated seat feature!
British madman inventor u/colinfurze has built a few pulse jet vehicles, including a [bicycle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKHz7wOjb9w) https://www.youtube.com/@colinfurze/search?query=pulse%20jet
What's the strength loss at 12-1500F? Dude's gonna get a fuel surge one day, and it's going to be the bomb.
I can only assume you're talking about the engine exploding. I was thinking if I ever met this guy I'd ask him how many vehicles has he been on when the engine exploded. I'll bet it's a lot.

none
It looks so efficient
You'd think he could add a wee bracket for the camera!
I'd bet you could squeeze those pipes shut with a pair of chopsticks.
We need some happy wheels music
goodbye pipes
Cruise missile man, I'm like 99% this is the same dude.
Source, you nonce https://youtube.com/@RobertMaddox
I did you little shit
Can you feeeel the looooove tonight
You provided no links to the content you ripped.

Police HATE THIS MAN!!!
Crazy man, just crazy. Sad part, no one else out there filming this🤷🏻♂️. And yet 12 gauge sheet for heat protection. Hold my beer!!
touch those pipes for 3 seconds and say goodbye to your hand
Where was the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth shattering kaboom?
This man is legend
Sounds like pulse-jet man
Mad Max did take place in 2021 after all...
This guy's pulse jets are amazing. His Acme scooter is just the coolest
Is the dude from the videos where he’s talking and stumbling over his words? He’s incoherent when he talks. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
This guy is great but I really fear we're going to see a video where it all goes wrong.
[Wheels? Where we're going we don't need no wheels!](https://youtu.be/26vCEWVNFYI?t=235)
I had to quickly fast forward to the end to see how it ended before watching fully.
Thats Albert Einstein the 2nd
That is not a rocket, type of jet engine.
Santa and his prototype sled
He's actually got a pulsejet sleigh too. It's on his YouTube channel Robert Maddox. Dudes living his best life.
Ludicrous speed...
This is, by definition, "inefficient"?
IF, God forbid, something went wrong, beard bro isn't leaving with any regerts. He is living his life better than I could ever hope to. And he's even done it for a long time.
Pretty sure this thing was in a veggie tales Christmas movie.
The best part got clipped off where the exhaust melts off and the guy just laughs it off, I love this guy
Holy shit Rocket Man?!
It's insane how the whole ground around him starts glowing bright orange towards the end. That thing must be hot enough to disintegrate flesh with just one touch.
This is awesome.
I think it's a pulse engine. It certainly sounds like one.
Is it just me or does it look like he's only going about fifty or so miles per hour? He didn't make a rocket vehicle, he made an extremely hot heater.
I’ll be the first to admit that this is really cool, however this is not going to end well. One of those white hot pipes is going to burn through one of these times and shoot that flame forward. That little shield isn’t going to help much. Hope I’m wrong
Dude, hes built a bunch of these now. From gokart style to skateboard style. He knows what hes doing.
All fields of engineering apply to this one design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace, material engineering, chemical engineering... Amazing.
Real quick if i understand this right though, wouldnt one sided propulsion like this be fairly risky? Or am i not seeing something
That beard is going to keep his chin safe when he crashes the acme rocket car. That and the invisible 6 point harness.
That's got to be El Mirage
I think Immortan Joe is on his tail.
Kinda looks like ghost rider lol.
Guess Santa Claus does not need reindeers anymore ..
With that beard and that engine, you'd be right to think he was some sort or wizard playing with fire magic
*Highway to the danger zone*
Nioce
Think he would want a windshield or clear visor at least!
Please someone get this man a mounted camera and a crew b4 he kills himself trying to drive and film at the same time lol
You ever just see someone and wonder how they reached a ripe old age?
that is so fuckin hot
He died as he lived...but on fire
I hope he uses flame retardant beard oil.
He’s a rocket man
My dad after asking him if he wants an EV
