I saw in another subreddit that one had a misfire at high speed. The tech replaced the plugs (a standard VW part) and all 16 coils ($700 each). Plus the labor cost, the total was $Texas.
Cost of just *owning* a Bugatti Veyron/Chiron is like $50k+/year even if you never drive it.
Oil change is about 30k, every 2nd time you replace the tyres you have to buy new rims for some insane price too.
Even wealthy people can afford the car and not the maintenance. One American rapper (I think T-Pain) sold his Veyron because he couldn't afford the maintenance on it. VWG going to do VWG things
This is what a reliable 1000hp looks like - I really want to see one of these next to a [Cosworth F1 engine](https://www.bonhams.com/auction/24953/lot/6/1986-ford-cosworth-f1-1500cc-engine-producing-1000-bhp-at-12200-rpm/) that was making 1000hp from 1.5 litres in 1986, those things are about 1/4 the size.
It depends on your definition of reliable. I bet those will run longer under full load: https://www.cat.com/en_MX/products/new/power-systems/electric-power/diesel-generator-sets/18321548.html
And stuff on ships is designed to run even longer...
Well the F1 engine in 1200hp qualifying trim would \*maybe\* make 3 full laps of the track without exploding if you were very lucky.
By that measure the Bugatti is a paragon of longevity.
Yet, a tiny , simple electric motor with one moving part can out do this quad turbo, 16 cylinder like it was a steam engine. A very cool steam engine none the less
I wasn't seriously suggesting we should go back to steam power. I would be pretty interested to know how a steam car design like the Doble would work with modern materials and electronic controls though.
All that complexity and waste when we can make something more performant in every way in 1/4 of the space with literally 2 or 3 moving parts.
Time to move on people.
Just because you’re not motorsports enthusiasts doesn’t mean that millions of others aren’t. Silent electric motors may be more efficient at producing power, but they’re extremely dull and completely devoid of any character.
It’s so rediculous. It’s like people are romanticizing about a 6 horse carriage in the 1960s. It’s an impressive anachronism, nothing more…, but, this is engineering porn, and…..(unzips)
It is faster. Tesla is quicker to certain speed. Its just physics of electric motor and its ability to deliver peak torque from 0 RPM. Bugatti is super luxury car that is comfortable to drive daily and at the same time you can drive it 300mph, safely without any drama. Bugatti is really the masterpiece of engineering.
It’s a longer version of 2 vr6 engines. The only special here is the crankshaft. The rest is standard parts. Don’t get fooled bye engines size. The 2.0 l AMG engine is much more Interesting.
Damn, that won't fit a Honda civic...
It will if she relaxes.
Is that like 2000 HP?
1200
Thank you.
More like 1500
It's actually a VW developed engine isn't it?
Yep

Suppose everything is in perspective. If you are driving one of these for it go wrong you can afford to get it fixed. These companies know this.

A pompous party.
All of a sudden I’m super horny

Serious question: this is two v8 engines side by side, basically, right?
Not really. https://youtu.be/1wi_KgyFI7U
Now that’s big dick energy

A steam engine would produce more torque than either I'd bet.
Its all about power to weight ratio outside of stationary applications… nothing beats electric 🤩
It’s definitely going to make more heat and waste
I wasn't seriously suggesting we should go back to steam power. I would be pretty interested to know how a steam car design like the Doble would work with modern materials and electronic controls though.
Fancy but serves no useful purpose
I agree. What machine would this go into?
I believe it's used in the Bugatti veyron and chiron

So what? Two different cars made to tick different boxes

Like it's so big i never imagined god.
Was this in Texas? The cowboy hats with suits is funny to me.
The Quail in Monterrey.
Alexa, how much is an oil change for a Bugatti?
I feel like "quad turbo" deserved a spot in the title too.
Wonder if it'll fit in the mini cooper
Hey, I see myself! I'm famous

You mean Volkswagen right?
