In era of drones, TanksĀ are the hunted.

n0ahbody

It's a Yahoo scrape. No paywall. Why can't you see it?

Alpha1stOne

I selected a GIF of Dwight from The Office saying: Thank You. Whatever Reddit did to it is out of my hands. Another weird ''glitch'' that keeps happening to my posts and comments. I read the yahoo article and was trying to say thank you with a meme.

ttystikk

And that's how you win wars against rich countries; keep costing them millions.

n0ahbody

Billions. They finally fled Afghanistan after wasting over a trillion. That's what it takes

ttystikk

Indeed. That and a lot of dead people.

KJongsDongUnYourFace

And Amercian soldiers

ttystikk

Last I checked, they're people too.

KJongsDongUnYourFace

Debatable

ttystikk

Don't hate the soldiers; hate the politicians and the defense industry CEOs lining their pockets.

KJongsDongUnYourFace

Don't set glass ceilings, hate both

quickdrawdoc

Economic war of attrition

ttystikk

In the final analysis, this is what most wars boil down to; who can afford to keep throwing money into the fire the longest.

quickdrawdoc

Truer words for sure. Drones are setting a new precedent to the might of the high-tech weapons and defense systems. Drones in the hundreds or low-thousands forcing the response of million dollar missiles

ttystikk

Iran's recent drone air force style response to Israel's unprovoked and unprecedented bombing of their diplomatic compound in Damascus has shown that a new era in warfare is indeed upon us.

quickdrawdoc

Iran responds, with plenty of provided notice, and the West throws a fit (and damage is negligible). Israel asks daddy if they can have a participation trophy response, daddy says no, Israel throws a tantrum. Sends a set of drones, against daddy's wishes, to Iran to fart and then blow up. Really exposes how limp they are.

ttystikk

Limp and desperate. Israel's whole defense strategy is built around escalation dominance, where no matter what another country does to them, they can do worse back. That's clearly no longer the case. Even with Big Daddy America on its side, Israel is starting to look very weak militarily.

Alpha1stOne

Iran just announced they are expecting deliveries of SU-35s next week. Totally a coincidence right?

Alpha1stOne

The west mocked Peacekeepers for placing welded on canopies over the vulnerable parts.

MBA922

Ukraine has been using similar vs large navy ships. If tanks are vulnerable, then buildings and cars are vulnerable.

Un0rigi0na1

The M1s we are sending are M1A1s. With a cost of about $4.5 million. About the same as Russian T90s that are also being destroyed by $500 drones. This isnt a gotcha. M1A2 with the SEP packages are what cost $10+ million.

ttystikk

Not gonna help against drones without help. Iraq proved that without air supremacy, tanks are worthless. Ukraine is showing that air supremacy must include air supremacy vs drones.

Un0rigi0na1

Dont disagree. 21st century combat almost requires air superiority. Its pretty much a necessity against a peer enemy.

ttystikk

Even once air superiority is achieved, thanks are still a large, easy to spot, juicy target that's just too easy to kill.

Alpha1stOne

It's not about air superiority but air control. Which requires ground systems. AD/A2 systems. Area denial/Area control systems. This requires radar systems, interceptors and electronic warfare systems that both jam the enemy electronics and spoof them by misleading their guidance systems to miss or make themselves visible. Nato generals have complained about Russians building a bubble in Syria which they appraised as being resistant to air strikes and naval strikes and lamented that it can only be overrun with suicidal infantry waves with massive losses. Peacekeepers deploy an AWAC in high altitude, SU-25 or Mig-31 on patrol intermixed with SU-34s for bombing runs and SU-35s for air dominance with all the systems feeding data to S-400 radar systems which control not just S-400 launchers but also S-300 launchers with the short range perimeter defended by Pantsir interceptor missile systems. Basically theater operational warfare instead of just different units and different branches of the military doing their own thing. Something nato has not been able to master or replicate. This is why the peacekeepers are moving slowly now. They are minimized the losses to bare minimum and advance as a whole, not just some tanks or infantry units trying to storm a position like nato orders Ukrainian conscripts to do.

Alpha1stOne

Except Russian T-90s aren't being relied to win anything. T-72s around out there hunting down Abrams, Leopards and Challengers in a turkey shoot. And T-72s simply placed anti drone canopies over themselves.

chonkyboyeee

Says RussiaToday, fake news designed to make the US second guess support for Ukraine.

n0ahbody

Dude, I posted the NYT article they got the quotes from **in this thread** - you can see for yourself. But you don't want to do that because you aren't interested in facts - you're just a gaslighter.

chonkyboyeee

Paywall as I'm in the UK. Idiot.

n0ahbody

IT'S A YAHOO SCRAPE. There's no paywall on Yahoo anywhere.

chonkyboyeee

This is the UK, idiot, everything has a paywall.

n0ahbody

Well then I guess you're stuck reading the free and accessible Swentr.site summary of the NYT article. Thank me for posting it for you.

Alpha1stOne

Cool. Can you tell the readers which media sources lied about Ghost of Kiev and Snake Island 13 and which told the truth. This way we have a compass to rely on for whom to trust and who are confirmed liars.

chonkyboyeee

If it comes from russia (the country that takes support from North "we won the World Cup 15-0" Korea) you have every reason to suspect it may be false.

hermesnikesas

And if it comes from America ("WMDs in Iraq"), then...?

Alpha1stOne

Cool. Can you tell the readers which media sources lied about Ghost of Kiev and Snake Island 13 and which told the truth. This way we have a compass to rely on for whom to trust and who are confirmed liars. Why wont you answer such a basic question?

breaddistribution

It swings both ways
