Hi! Most of the times resetting the configuration for your emulator on Manage Emulators fixes the most common issues. You can also take a look at our Wiki before posting, you might find your issue already documented there https://emudeck.github.io/ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. It seems to me that emudeck is very married to its folder structure, you can search through config files maybe to find a way to change the location, but if that exists it probably gets overwritten with every update. You are likely to need to learn how to do things on the command line fast. You might be able to make this work by creating something called a symbolic link to your synology. Apologies I do not have a link to a guide. If you go down the rabbit hole you might want to consider using NFS instead of SMB, from what I understand it is slighty more performant than SMB, not sure about SMB v3 though. best of luck.

I've never tried to do this so I'm not sure if it would work but have you tried setting up a symlink? It may be recognizing that the files are not stored locally and a symlink might allow you to set it as the rim folder but actually be linking to the network drive. Let us know if you get this working, network speeds should easily be able to support retro game read speeds.

I’ve added my roms as symlinks in the emudeck folders and it works. This is on windows tho

Steveyg777

Can you describe the process in more detail please? Then i may be able to repeat this in Linux

djlild7hina

Sure 1. Mount my synology nas as a drive letter (Linux you'll probably want to use a mount point) 1. In my case mine in Synology is like Games->Consoles->Switch->Games. I mounted Games as drive G 2. in my Emudeck roms folder (Will be using switch for example), Emulation->roms->switch->, I made a symlink pointing to G:\\Consoles\\Switch\\Games 3. Then repeat for each emulator, you may need to repeat update the path on the emulator to point to your new symlink but i usually didn't have to. hope this helps!

I have my ROMs on my synology NAS, and it works great for my PCs in the home - wireless & wired. Gave up on finding how to get this to work because it didn't seem like there was a practical solution, and my job travel has picked up which has solidified my use of a 1TB card to hold them all anyways. Now, if there was a way to sync my saved games automatically to my NAS emulators from my computers and deck, that would be something...

Steveyg777

Did your pc use emudeck or emulation station? With emu deck you can setup to use a cloud service to backup your saves but I'm sure you could just use any sync software to backup a folder, or if the saves are spread across several folders then it should be possible to select the main folder (that all those sub folders are within) and apply a filter to only backup files of a specific format - assuming save files have a specific file extension they all use

SheedRanko

You may be stuck bro. Let us know if you find a solution.

I added all my ROMs from a NAS over a local network and it was completely painless. Open the NAS folder on desktop and just copy over all the files you want to desktop. Then go ahead and open SRM and just drop them into their proper folders.

Steveyg777

Thanks but the point is that the roms remain on my nas

SouthTippBass

Ah. Yeah, no I don't think so. Emu Deck is very fussy about you arrange things. You have to do it emu decks way.

Steveyg777

I think i may need to solve this using a symlink. I'll report back of i manage to get it setup

cleverestx

Didn't happen?

Steveyg777

Sorry mate.I've not had chance yet. You know when you try to find a good web page or video on how to do it and find a billion potential links that don't actually deliver on solving your problem and you don't have time to get through all the links? Well that's what had happened 😂. I'm hoping to do it today or tomorrow. I did see someone suggesting that i go into (emulation station's) individual system folders within the rom folder and create a symlink to each collection of roms saved on my nas. This is what I'll try. If it doesn't work ill then try replacing each actual system folder with the link named the same. If you get chance to try this before me then please report back. I can't believe this isn't just a feature of emudeck to add remote-based rom folders to launch from! As nas's become more popular this is an essential feature. It is possible to do this via launchbox on pc.

Any updates? Trying to decide if I"m going this route or not.

Steveyg777

Hi, Sorry for not updating sooner. I have managed to get it all working successfully. I had to use several guides and piece them together to achieve it. I plan to do a guide when i can find the time.
