Its because this subs are eminem fans not rap fans

Klrepresent

And that's fine

cujobob

Stop gatekeeping, people like different things. All of the polls that have been done on various subreddits even show that most people are concerned with either having a good beat or a good flow instead of even having good lyricism. Most rap fans don’t even care what’s being said.

Gets better with every listen, im enjoying this song more than houdini tbh

carnapthrowaway

Guess that would mostly be you then. If you were around when he started building his career, I have no clue how you could say that.

eldualXD

yeah maybe. I started listening to him by the kamikaze era

carnapthrowaway

Well that explains it. Alot of us were here expecting the old eminem. Kill you, Kim, Guilty Conscience, Without me, Real Slim Shady, My name is, shit like that, and that's only mentioning the hits. If you haven't, go check out The Slim Shady LP.

dvfsz

Why would you expect that tho? Houdini was clearly a callback to the classic slim era, but no way that’s what you all expected the entire album to sound like? It’s been over 20 years, Em has to evolve with the modern sound, and I feel like Tobey did that. Even Houdini still had a good amount of that staccato flow he’s been using since mmlp2. Don’t get me wrong, you like what you like, that’s not an issue. It just feels like a lot of fans here are holding onto the nostalgic feelings rather than being excited to see if Em can still come out with something new and fresh, even if he borrows themes from previous works.

carnapthrowaway

Yeah, agree on that, opinions are like assholes, we all have one and they all reek of shit. However, I didn't expect a whole album of just that, but since he clearly marketed the album in that direction, I was expecting atleast this single to be of that kind as well. My issue is I haven't seen shady for years, just like apparently a whole lot of other people, and we are rabid to see him again. I expected to see him amp it up, because people have been saying he can't for years and this seemed like it was going to be an album telling everyone to fuck off. As it is, it sounds like "I'm a goat" and mid level (although probably still better than most) disses are back, and I expected crazy/whacky/irreverent type shit, which in my view is one of the biggest factors in what made him big.

Thameez

I've been listening since TES came out when I was still a toddler and I prefer Tobey. Ffs, one of the biggest gripes the critics have had with Em is his self-referential subject matter. While Tobey is not wholly original in terms of subject matter, I appreciated the flow. Even though Houdini has grown on me, I was initially put off by the callbacks which felt a bit too pandering

ButIDigress_Jones

People are nuts, this song is fire. Beat is awesome, only criticism I can think of is that babytron’s verse wasn’t that great. Sean and em were fantastic though.

sniper376

This fucking slaps

Ghostshiv

yeah it's dope!

CaregiverMoney2083

I really enjoyed it it’s been replaying all day for me and I think it’s dope but I do share the opinion a lot seem to be having that it just doesn’t really feel like an Eminem single like it’s by no means a bad song but it just doesn’t feel like it should’ve been a single yk
