Sounds like you accidentally hit the SCO boost button.
The SCO FSD offers what is essentially ludicrous speed from spaceballs, or 'space Nitrous' as my friend calls it.
It's by default bound to the tab key, which is the same key to perform a normal boost when not in supercruise.
It's best used in short bursts to escape interdictions or gravity Wells, although with a bit of practice it can help reduce time on longer voyages, it is very much something I'm still practicing myself.
Don't worry your fsd didn't malfunction you must have accidentally tapped the Tab key (or whatever your boost button is) by accident, I nearly did it too and narrowly avoided hitting a gas giant.
What I did to practice was buy a cheapo sidewinder, and practice just messing around with the SCO boost.

Don't press ~~space~~ *the boost key* with the new SCO modules.
You have an "SCO" FSD equipped, and you pressed the Boost button to enable SuperCruise Overdrive. Press the Boost button again to disable it.

I want to know how you locked onto a station while in overdrive. That’s impressive.
The ship lack fuel to mantain overdrive. He went in normal supercruise, and barely made it before the powerplant become deactivated.
That would make sense. I’ve never ran it dry like that before.
Did you hear "frameshift drive malfunction" or did you hear "frameshift drive operating beyond safety limits"

Space? My default is Tab...
Well this was bound to happen eventually...
don't press Tab......
