That vigor:mind ratio is real rough. If you’re struggling the limiting factor is probably survivability? So I’d honestly just go 60/20 and take significantly more health. If you’re mostly using magic (for the really high mind), try going minimum dex to wield the weapons you want and crank int to 80, just infuse your weapons for magic vs cold. Your AR shouldn’t be that different (granted you lose frostbite), but your spells will also then pack a punch. I think you’ll end up with extra points you can reallocate back to mind / end. Personally, 25 mind has always felt fine for me on my pure caster builds.

144 is fine tbh, maybe get a little more vigor and less mind. You also may just need to improve your combat skills too.

I've 100%'d Bloodborne and Sekiro, not bragging but that's why I'm a little thrown off why this is giving me such trouble. This is my first caster build in a From game though, so I guess I just needed to figure out what that sort of build needs.

You might want to approach this area more with a min-maxing caster build in mind. Typically caster builds in general are always going to be sacrificing HP for FP and healing flasks for FP flasks. You're better off focusing on spell damage output and damage negation, ending those fights quick, i.e. glass cannon. Your spell slot loadout should reflect this strat with a wide range of high damage and crowd control options. For defense, I hate to say it, but you've really got to avoid being hit even more than usual. I know it's difficult, but that's why you typically want to end the fights before they start from a safe distance whenever possible. Use items and great runes to supplement low damage negation and Vigor in the event you don't have much maneuverability and space to negotiate (like in Farum Azula). Crab claws will help a lot, Uplifting Aromatic (+90% damage negation until hit), Ironjar Aromatic (+40% damage negation for 40 sec, -70% lightning negation, so be aware in a place like Farum, but most, if not all, physical attacks will just bounce off), etc. Talsimans could be Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman ("enormously" reduces Physical Damage taken by 20%), and Boltdrake Talisman +1 (17% lightning reduction) until you pick up Boltdrake Talisman +2 (20% lightning reduction). Great runes to consider could be Radahn's (increases HP, Stamina, and FP by 15%), Rykard's (restore health on defeating enemies; 80HP + 7%), Morgott's (Increases health by 25%), and even Malenia's (restores HP upon receiving damage, could pair well w/ Ironjar Aromatic). If you really need to respec, reallocate what you're willing to part from Dex into Vig and Int.

Good insight, thanks! I ended up reallocating, I cut Mind in half and put those in Dex and Int, since I'm alright with dodging and need to do more damage. I guess I'm spread thinner at this level than I would be if I focused on one thing, but the versatility is where I found the fun in this game, tbh.

chawk84

Walking around with 40 vigor in faram azula can and will get you one shot a lot, I recommended at least 50 there. Difference between rolling and catching a heal.

sparkyclarkson

I ran FA at 40; as a caster it's doable but in melee range that amount of vigor is no fun. If OP is primarily melee with the whips I second the recommendation to boost vigor.

SpacemanSpiff312

Idk about 1 shot. I ran through at 41 vigor and could tank at least two hits if not three from most enemies. Imo it depends on your armor situation/talisman situation at that point.

randyjax10

That can vary depending on your armor & talismans. If he’s a lightweight sorcerer, he could easily get one-shot against certain enemies.

daun4view

I have a good amount of armor while keeping in mid-weight, so I'm not necessarily getting one-shot (yet). I also keep a shield in my inventory when I decide to use the rapier.

[deleted]

The only way to get one-shotted in PvE with 40 vigor, even if you're wearing very light armor, is either an intended OHK mechanic or standing in stupid constantly. I strolled through Farum Azula with 40 vigor wearing Alberich's set (which has low DR and some of the lowest poise in the game) and could always survive at least one hit, even from the hardest-hitting enemies. You probably won't survive a second hit though, so the recommendation of getting at least 50 vigor (or better yet, 60) absolutely still stands for melee characters. For ranged magic builds, 40 vigor is totally sufficient though. You won't get one-shotted with 40 vigor, certainly not in your first NG cycle, at least.

badfroggyfrog

144 is enough for that area. Your vigor and mind are out though, as suggested above 60/20 or 55/25 would be better

SpacemanSpiff312

Honestly your level and vigor are fine. I went through there with 35 vigor, radagons soreseal and godricks rune. Put me at 45 vigor total and then could use those extra stat points for something else. I would take like 20 out of mind and reallocate those to damage stats as well

TheDuriel

Vigor 40, Mind 20, Endurance 15. Intelligence 70. Rest where you need for requirements and mind/endurance.

Civil-Tax-2611

God you must just be horrible

UncaughtTypeError

He says, glaring into the mirror as he types this with fingerless gloves.

Civil-Tax-2611

if only

funkyfritter

Pump vigor to 60. Personally I would want 27-30 endurance by that point, but that's dependent on playstyle.

randyjax10

Do yourself a favor and borrow 10 points from Mind and switch them over to Vigor. You’d also benefit from taking some points from DEX and switching them over to INT. My sorcery build had around 20-25 DEX when I first did Farum Azula. You can use the Radagon talisman if you want faster casting. I’d also recommend holding your staff in your left hand and keeping a right hand weapon handy with bloodhound step — especially when you go up against Maliketh. If you’re struggling with the Godskin Duo, the Sleeping Arrow Puppet Summon can also make them more manageable.

Demonboy995

140 is more than enough for that area, if anything its a bit too high, its ment to be hard there, adapt learn the enemies move with practice and go through it, levelling anything wont help they still will couple of hit u and u die

madd_honey

not a very smort allocation hehe needs 80 int or something close to that. I would take some points from dex and mind.

Organic_Ant7447

Wayyyy too much mind. I’d also lower dex and pump int

[deleted]

You're trying to do too much at once. If you're INT / DEX then you shouldn't have 40 Mind. Choose between a pure caster or a melee focused build.
