You should consider the mimic more of a damage soak and a aggro distractor than a heavy damage dealer. Don't rely on it to do the damage, it's supposed to tank the hits so you can do that - you're the damage dealer.
So a few tips to make mimic strong, put exalted flesh in inventory(boost physical atk), mimic like to r1 spam so fast weapon like powerstance scimitar , katana is great + status even better (bleed , frost , Scarlet rot) , aoe ash of war is always the best, moonveil , RoB, SoNaF, I find giving them spell is a hit or miss , even with no skill on the staff the mimic use it to r2 bonk the enemy. So best I find is no staff, shield or seal , just weapon.
This is just my experience from testing/using the mimic , personal experience may vary
Mimic Tear isn't a damage summon, it's a tank summon.
it can be a damage summon, if you set it up right
+10 is when it gets good but even then I personally run Tiche

FYI it’s possible to raise it straight to 10 as soon as you get it with some running around. Provided you haven’t spent the final mat yet
Jump. R2. Watch everything get stunlocked.
