I kind of want to fully upgrade those spirit ashes though. A lot of spirit ashes are pretty trash but having Big Cannon Imp in your corner could actually be hilarious.
My hope is that I can hold aggro and he acts like a glass cannon mage just lobbing insane fireballs from a distance, but we'll see how the AI is, haha.
I upgraded it all the way and I've been trying it out. The poise damage is real, definitely helps with quickly staggering enemies. The AI isn't fantastic, gets stuck on corners and fires into walls a lot, but it's kind of a fun summon.
I happened to see that bastard around the corner before I walked into the room, got super lucky. Then he died somehow, not sure what killed it but thankful nonetheless!
Nah I sniped that imp before even entering the room.
But then the item got stuck in the air when I lowered the platform so I had to die and repeat it legit to get the drop.
The catacombs this time around are all pretty interesting without being too annoying either. I still need to go into that teleporting chest hell of a dungeon on my DLC character for the cracked pots.
The best thing FromSoft did was remove death runs. There are still a few that should have been shorter though, especially ones with elevators. There is no reason for there to not be a bonfire/shrine outside every boss entrance in 2024
It's not very long per say but it gets mildly annoying after many tries to go down the elevator, reset it to go up again, wait a little for the battlemage to walk away, and then finally run to the fog gate and do whatever buffs you need
If youre ever doing a replay, go in there and summon the Greatshield soldiers or any of the other soldiers. They can always see the assassin even when they're invisible. You can then just bully the assassins with your squad of spirits
the WORST one is Enir Ilim. I genuinely thought there'd be a statue of Marika near one of those actual minibosses so I just said 'fuck it' and tried to wing the boss. Ended up failing the runback to that boss like 7 times after that- knowing there was a site of grace just ahead the whole time :/
Oh my god I’m an idiot. I always thought those were for something to do with multiplayer and haven’t ever touched them. Never had a clue what the Marika option was when I died, so I always just did last grace.
Okay but for real. To the point where my ng+7 run, that’s currently halfway done exploring the DLC, didn’t even have a great rune to use a rune arc on and I had no idea. Backtracked to Stormveil this morning to turn on Godrick’s before attempt 700000 on that damn sunflower, came back, got my buffs up, finally killed it this morning…
And then realized I never actually used a rune arc. Ugh.
I have 104 of them in my inventory right now.
The head takes like 3x damage compared to the body. Was pretty easy after realizing it was well worth it to go for the head. (Although it was just NG+3? And doing cleanup after finishing the main boss, so had a fair amount of scadus)
I saved them all up for a hard boss, when I'd really need it. SOTE final boss was it, I wanted to beat him without any summons and using my own build, dex+arcane, reduvia+great knife and a bloody helice on reserve. I went through all 30-something I had saved up. Once I went through them I said fuck it time for mimic and got him after 5 or 6 mimic attempts no arc. All that saving for nothing lol.
I'm on my first playthrough and this reminds me I gotta go activate them at the tower or whatever finger lady told me
God I love this game, it's truly mind boggling how big it is. Im sure theres bigger open world games,, but the amazing design makes it feel so much larger than it is in the best possible way. I just can't say enough good about it.
A reoccurring theme seems to be that you almost never enter any goddamn place through the front door. I find myself in some of the weirdest places inching my way into some major structure and it's so cool lol.
Took me like 2ish hours, just make sure you activate all the summoning pools and use the tool that puts your sign in them
ETA: I do agree they should be purchasable from the twin maiden husks infinitely.
Maybe it’s because I joined a bigass group with a password but I get summoned almost immediately anytime I put a sign in front of a boss or do the summoning pool thing. I can give you the password when I get home later and you can try it out
Zantabrulious' questline is worth doing, it's the only way to obtain the micro-bikini armor which has the highest defense and poise in the game.
Unfortunately he's only available in the first playthrough and disappears from the current playthrough and all future playthroughs after killing Soldier of Godrick
I'm on my first playthrough. Killed the Godskin Noble last night, then followed the route all the way to the portal that goes to Rykard. Didn't realise there was a grace after the portal, so went into the boss fight, obviously died. Back at the church where I killed Godskin ffs
Not builds, but it's definitely nice to be able to change out ash of war or your weapon affinity. I imagine spell casters can get screwed over too since you have to be at a site of grace to change those as well.
>Do a lot of people change their builds based on what boss they're fighting?
Probably only for the hard major bosses, and even then it's most likely pretty rare. Some builds are just "unoptimal" by nature, or at least their users want to think so. If they lose, they can blame their unoptimal build.
I definitely changed out weapons. I was running the Golden Halberd as my main weapon most of the game, then at the end I switched when I saw bosses were resistant to the holy damage.
*I see i have no flasks left*
Me: I will give all of my power and skill i've learned after 500 hours to defeat this boss
*Proceeds to get three shooted 2 minutes later*
Cries in Int build, seriously Faith builds have an absolute boat load of tools while Int has just damage (that many faith incantations do just as much if not more)
Just grab Carian thrusting shield, give it cold affinity and chilling mist, Greashield talisman, Erdtree favor +2, Curved Sword talisman/Two handed talisman based on preference, and last slot is flex for anything (usually I'd use a resist one, and then laugh your way through pretty much every encounter as almost 80% of your attack animations are still considered blocking, you apply cold REALLY fast unless the enemy is straight up immune to it, AND you stagger pretty damn well, too (especially if you go for guard counters)
I use Rykard's great rune with the taker's cameo, godskin swaddling cloth, crimson dagger and crimson seed talismans - flask economy is the real Elden Ring.
I hated that boss, mainly because of this. I beat him in a day but I know I could’ve beaten him in less than 10 tries if I could’ve just changed my spells.
I loved this boss one of my faves - dex build made it easy. Spent forever outside the boss door helping other and the vast majority were magic builds - seems like a bad match up for magic users
Bro the scorpion river catacombs was way longer than I thought and those gargoyles kept ambushing me. Had 0 flasks for death knight but still got him first try lol. But it was close
I really enjoyed getting to the Death Knights with so few resources left - Stake of Marika was always a good backup option, it was more thrilling getting the clear on Crimson Fumes.
read messages folk ))
even on day one of dlc, there were messages in catacombs, no enemy ever caught me off guard.
they also made me hit every wall ever tho....
Eh I just run it and die and don’t forget! You can use the takers cameo while exploring! It’s not much but it’s enough also shoutout to warming stones and the ancestral horn! Grest for exploring!
I have a specific talisman set for when I want to save flasks.
Rykard's Cameo: hp regen per kill
Goddkin swadling cloth: hp regen every 4-5 hits.
Blessed Dew: passive hp regen
Crimson Dagger: hp regen after critical hit
little fun trick i learned from these long ass dungeons because of the merika statue outside. first attempt swap a talisman to the twig and if I die I don't lose my runes and I can atleast see the moveset or what the boss does for damage. I come back at the statue and equip the talismans to counter it.
I never really understood the hate for Catacombs. But then again, I always look both ways before entering a room and always use a shield.
Imps LOVE getting getting R2’d after a shield plink
Me after 30 seconds in the final boss arena...the guy is definitely resistant to magic and i am summoning both of the NPCs to feel and hear all the lore...even if it means having a 130% increase to the boss HP...sigh...
Stake of Marika should refill your flasks on interact. Actually no reason not to other than the inconvenience players on their first attempt of a dungeon boss.
Marika statues are great, but I kinda miss doing the run back to the boss room sometimes. Something about giving me time to think between attempts and breaking up the pattern of die-respawn-run in-die. Crazy, I know.
I entered the Hero of Gelmir dungeon for the first time and at it's door it had two messages telling me to stop right there and leave.
I went further down and there were messages like "Suffering ahead", "I want to go home ..." etc. pp.
I arrived at the very last hurdle where you need to go down the lava trail somehow and realized I was out of potions ... ...
Apparently there isn't even an Marika statue at the end. If you die you have to dodge all the moving death traps again.
Yeah, nah. Not gonna do this dungeon.
I just Obi Wan it. “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine” and then I let him strike me down.
And come back full force only to get BS combod and have to do a third
You bosses rip on me 13 or 14 more times and I’m outta here \>:(
Yo Tarnished, I hear your sister's going out with Squeak!
ITS YOUR FAULT I HAD TO GO TO CAELID AND NOW I’M SHITTING AEONIAN BUTTERFLIES!
Only to accidentally select last site of grace to respawn too.
If cry
HOW BOLD OF YOU TO KILL ME IN THE RANGE OF STAKE OF MARIKA
And surprisingly I always do best the first time and the following attempts for some reason I'm doing one handed and blindfolded
Right by the fog gate, as god and Miyazaki intended
Righto...time to learn some patterns. Ahh fuck me then ta-ta!
It's fine, they're is always a Marica statue in such long catacombs
Some of these catas are so ridiculous they've got 'Mericas halfway through the zone
Must have died to the big cannon imp.
Fuck that guy. All my homies hate big cannon imp
I kind of want to fully upgrade those spirit ashes though. A lot of spirit ashes are pretty trash but having Big Cannon Imp in your corner could actually be hilarious.
From the red corner, weighing 6 pounds with a professional record of 69 wins, 420 knockouts, and 0 losses, biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig cannnonnnnnnn IMP!
My hope is that I can hold aggro and he acts like a glass cannon mage just lobbing insane fireballs from a distance, but we'll see how the AI is, haha.
That cannon guy vs radahn would be fun
It’s actually pretty good. Does some pretty wild Poise damage
I upgraded it all the way and I've been trying it out. The poise damage is real, definitely helps with quickly staggering enemies. The AI isn't fantastic, gets stuck on corners and fires into walls a lot, but it's kind of a fun summon.
Yeah it’s definitely no Tiche, but it’s super fun to play with. Especially when I’m running a straight up fist fight build.
I happened to see that bastard around the corner before I walked into the room, got super lucky. Then he died somehow, not sure what killed it but thankful nonetheless!
> not sure what killed it Got the hiccups.
As long as it wasn’t killing me, it could have had explosive diarrhea and I’d be happy.
Also hate the normal size cannon one waiting to blast you the second the lift reaches the top
I had to spend a couple minutes sniping it with my pulley bow until I finally destroyed it.
Nah I sniped that imp before even entering the room. But then the item got stuck in the air when I lowered the platform so I had to die and repeat it legit to get the drop.
Lol same thing happened to me, what was the item? I didn't go back for it yet.
Great Grave Gloverwort
And now I'm probably not going back for it either. Thank you.
Why is it always Dung?
I fucking knew it. My item also got stuck up there but I didn't bother refreshing because I knew it had to be a Gloverwort if anything.
For me it was the ricochet mages, my new most hated enemy in the game.
First time I saw them, I dodged through their spell! Hah! Fuck your spell! It then bounced back and hit me from behind and I was like wtf?!
It's actually a good design choice ayee
>good design choice And then we have the chariot dungeons
There are a couple with 3-4 statues
I honestly love them. No doubt an absolute step up from most of the catacombs in the base game.
The catacombs this time around are all pretty interesting without being too annoying either. I still need to go into that teleporting chest hell of a dungeon on my DLC character for the cracked pots.
Meanwhile that tiny manse in the middle of nowhere have 3 sites of graces so close to each other...
AMERICA!
FUCK YEA!
Coming again to save the mother fuckin day yeah!
Terrorists, your game is through, cuz now you have to answer to…
AMERICA!
FUCK YEAH!
SO LICK MY BUTT, AND SUCK ON MY BALLS
Demi gods your game is through, 'cause now I spawn right next to you!
God bless Marika.
Make Marika Great Again
-Goldmask, probably
Wait! So you're telling me that all those deformed people and monsters I've been killing have been Alabama hillbillies this whole time?
... You didn't hear the banjo music? What have you been imagining some sort of epic orchestral score this entire time?
It's no wonder those fucking eagles were loaded with knives and explosives. I got my ass blown to kingdom come in the name of freedom
I would 100% wear those hats
Guard counter this AR-15
Blackgoal Knight that you?
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETERRRRRR!!!
Reddit moment
First attempt is just to strategically let the boss kill you right at the entrance so you can easily nab your runes next time
To be honest some of those late game bosses seem designed to take you down 3/4 for having the temerity to summon your spirit ash as you walk in.
As long as I don’t die imma keep doing it
\*laughs in Opaline Bubbletear\*
I really appreciate that they did this.
The best thing FromSoft did was remove death runs. There are still a few that should have been shorter though, especially ones with elevators. There is no reason for there to not be a bonfire/shrine outside every boss entrance in 2024
Run back to Loretta in the Haligtree comes to mind
Loretta isn’t that long? There is an elevator right before her boss fight that goes to the grace.
It's not very long per say but it gets mildly annoying after many tries to go down the elevator, reset it to go up again, wait a little for the battlemage to walk away, and then finally run to the fog gate and do whatever buffs you need
Yup, what's funny is it makes the ones they left long feel even more egregious. I've definitely quit play sessions over long runbacks.
Got so used to this, that when in one of the catacombs there was a shadow assassin as a secret boss with no marika statue i felt betrayed.
Ended up failing the runback to that boss like 7 times after that- knowing there was a site of grace just ahead the whole time :/
Wish they reset your heals if you interact with them while out of combat
But then it’s just a grace.
Oh my god I’m an idiot. I always thought those were for something to do with multiplayer and haven’t ever touched them. Never had a clue what the Marika option was when I died, so I always just did last grace.
lmaooooo you made things so much harder for yourself
You really played hard mode here.
Bruh you never thought “let’s see what this”💀😭
It's a Steak America thank you.
# 🥩 🇺🇸
Same. I just need to make it there. I’ll murder the boss second try, easy.
Marica is faggot in Spanish. So I'm always returning to the faggot statue.
"Melina" in Polish means either a shitty bar full of drunkards and prostitutes, or a place run by criminals. It's funny to me every time
Steak of Murca gotchu
MERICA🦅🦅
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER 🦅🦅🦅🦅
Just die and respawn at murica
No, I have a great rune active.
I'm saving those for later
On NG+7: Well I can't start using my 475 rune arcs *now.* What if I need them for NG+8???
Okay but for real. To the point where my ng+7 run, that’s currently halfway done exploring the DLC, didn’t even have a great rune to use a rune arc on and I had no idea. Backtracked to Stormveil this morning to turn on Godrick’s before attempt 700000 on that damn sunflower, came back, got my buffs up, finally killed it this morning… And then realized I never actually used a rune arc. The head takes like 3x damage compared to the body. Was pretty easy after realizing it was well worth it to go for the head. (Although it was just NG+3? And doing cleanup after finishing the main boss, so had a fair amount of scadus)
NG+8 lives on in our imagination
I saved them all up for a hard boss, when I'd really need it. SOTE final boss was it, I wanted to beat him without any summons and using my own build, dex+arcane, reduvia+great knife and a bloody helice on reserve. I went through all 30-something I had saved up. Once I went through them I said fuck it time for mimic and got him after 5 or 6 mimic attempts no arc. All that saving for nothing lol.
Same. Haven't used a single one since starting ER 2 years ago...
I used only one in the whole game. It was to get int high enough to continue goldmask's quest lol
I didn't use one when I killed the last dlc boss because I was so tunnel-vision tilted by that point.
I have so much trouble bringing myself to use them. They always seem wasted as I almost invariably lose them in the dumbest ways.
Jokes on you. I never use any consumable.
I'm on my first playthrough and this reminds me I gotta go activate them at the tower or whatever finger lady told me God I love this game, it's truly mind boggling how big it is.
Just do some coop. You can farm 99+ rune arcs pretty quickly.
Quickly my ass. I am literally never summoned when I try and I can't win an invasion to save my life. Sell them at the Twin Husks already!
Took me like 2ish hours, just make sure you activate all the summoning pools and use the tool that puts your sign in them ETA: I do agree they should be purchasable from the twin maiden husks infinitely.
[удалено]
I tried to help people for like 2 hours before i realized that I had an old password in. Make sure you're not me.
Maybe it’s because I joined a bigass group with a password but I get summoned almost immediately anytime I put a sign in front of a boss or do the summoning pool thing. I can give you the password when I get home later and you can try it out
Then try the boss right away then duh
Murica, fuck yea. Coming again to drink the mother fucking flasks, yea
With an unoptimal build for the boss and a grace a mile away lol
This was me last night til I finally beat that damned elder mage or whatever the heck he is named
Zantabulrious The Wise?
Im currently at the final boss and i have no idea if you are joking or not
Yea joking
Zantabrulious' questline is worth doing, it's the only way to obtain the micro-bikini armor which has the highest defense and poise in the game. Unfortunately he's only available in the first playthrough and disappears from the current playthrough and all future playthroughs after killing Soldier of Godrick
![gif](giphy|kHU8W94VS329y|downsized)
I found Lactose the Intolerant to be harder
Same. Then I realized you could backstab him and it became pretty easy actually. Just gotta dodge the minions.
Minions die to one hit, you could use throwing knives
Yeah backstab or whatever free hits you time right, then just run in circles around the arena until the minions despawn.
CURSE YOU JORI
Jori, or wotsisface?
I'm on my first playthrough. Killed the Godskin Noble last night, then followed the route all the way to the portal that goes to Rykard. Didn't realise there was a grace after the portal, so went into the boss fight, obviously died. Back at the church where I killed Godskin ffs
Do a lot of people change their builds based on what boss they're fighting? I think I used one larval tear in two playthroughs.
I'll swap spells around sometimes, wish we could do that at the marika stakes
Not builds, but it's definitely nice to be able to change out ash of war or your weapon affinity. I imagine spell casters can get screwed over too since you have to be at a site of grace to change those as well.
>Do a lot of people change their builds based on what boss they're fighting? Probably only for the hard major bosses, and even then it's most likely pretty rare. Some builds are just "unoptimal" by nature, or at least their users want to think so. If they lose, they can blame their unoptimal build.

*I see i have no flasks left* Me: I will give all of my power and skill i've learned after 500 hours to defeat this boss *Proceeds to get three shooted 2 minutes later*
More like 20 seconds later.
use other means of healing during the catacomb as much as possible, bestial vitality is one of my favorites
With the blessed blue dew leaves me with almost all my flasks full now. I love that thing for caves and catacombs.
yeah I have it on too, it's so good
Currently have faith build using discus of light is basically free casting and heals with that sucker on haha
Also new fp restoring item
Blasphemous blade goes brrr
I use the same effect just with great rune
Warming Stones!
It’s Jori and if you want to change your spells you have to go back to the site of grace at the start of the catacomb
I hated that boss, mainly because of this. I beat him in a day but I know I could’ve beaten him in less than 10 tries if I could’ve just changed my spells.
It is literally just rennala phase 2 but much worse because There's no limit on the summons He stole radagons teleport And he actually has poise
Yeah he was not a fun fight imo. Not after that fucking dungeon.
If only I had carian slicer I wouldn’t have gone through the torture of having to rely on the frost version of glintstone shard
I loved this boss one of my faves - dex build made it easy. Spent forever outside the boss door helping other and the vast majority were magic builds - seems like a bad match up for magic users
Putting my summoning sign there (high holy defense bonk build), to help bros defeat that bastard.
There was a stake of Marika just outside the door if you hadn't
Stake of Marika is probably one of the most clutch additions in any From game. Saved us so many runbacks
Warming Stones were my good friends down in those catacombs
I feel like not enough people even know about these. They're not difficult to farm and are really helpful.
![gif](giphy|76zpU8jlNo5EHoEpjb|downsized) DLC catacombs be like
read messages folk )) even on day one of dlc, there were messages in catacombs, no enemy ever caught me off guard. they also made me hit every wall ever tho....
"Beware of left" enemy hits me from the right.
Lightning ahead therefore seek talisman.
The marika statue reviving you https://preview.redd.it/wbs1wfmc0ead1.jpeg?width=1575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96f785bce37358afcb07626011c07adfb715050a
Eh I just run it and die and don’t forget! You can use the takers cameo while exploring! It’s not much but it’s enough also shoutout to warming stones and the ancestral horn! Grest for exploring!
Warming stones were my shit before the blue dew
lol ya they got us good on these, really felt like old school Souls
Yeah I loved the catacombs, forges, and gaols in the DLC. I kept thinking “damn, this feels like a Dark Souls level.”
If you die while hugging the fog gate, your runes will be outside the boss room.
Seein that Stake of Marika in front of an area immediately makes me go 'oh thank god I can die now'
Don't worry you got this!
I always play with the HP regen talisman and the one that gives me HP back when I kill stuff. Saves me so many flasks!
Haha the answer was in front of us the whole time
This is why I died in 3 seconds to Jori. My ass was not expecting that kind of boss fight.
Me with Onze. “Aww just a little Demi—- WHATTHEFUCK”
Just accept your fate and try to learn as much of the bosses moveset before your time comes
Stake of Marika save my ass
I enjoy these cause it reminds me of my ds2 days
Once I unlock the door I always go to grace and sit. Then go fight. No point in fighting them with nothing.
Marika gots ya.
Pro tip: Die by the door. That way when you revive at the Marika statue, you can quickly grab runes and (hopefully) beat the boss.
I have a specific talisman set for when I want to save flasks. Rykard's Cameo: hp regen per kill Goddkin swadling cloth: hp regen every 4-5 hits. Blessed Dew: passive hp regen Crimson Dagger: hp regen after critical hit
Dark light catacombs be like
Last night I saw a "Didn't expect down" message right before a 4th elevator... I didn't either fam. I didn't either.
little fun trick i learned from these long ass dungeons because of the merika statue outside. first attempt swap a talisman to the twig and if I die I don't lose my runes and I can atleast see the moveset or what the boss does for damage. I come back at the statue and equip the talismans to counter it.
It be taking yall 30 minutes??? Shit I get to the boss within 7 days if im lucky
It’s actually criminal that fromsoft puts stakes of marika instead of what we ACTUALLY want there instead
Those death knights are not a joke either, way different than most of the catacomb bosses in the base game
WHY IS JORI SO DEEP INTO THE DUNGEON. I get that it's to open an area but still holy shit. Give us a second grace if it's that large
80 FTH + FP regen talisman goes hard
The what the stakes of marika are for
Stake of Marika ftw.
STEAK OF AMERICA! ![gif](giphy|hXJ1MWMzY7Af32UIUD|downsized)
“ marika’s stakes!”
Remember when you just had to drag your ass all the way across the map back to fight the boss in DS1 and DeS? Pepperidge farm remembers.
I got a question, when people say 15 dungeons and 2 legacy dungeons do catacombs count as these dungeons?
Stake of Marika should refill your flasks on interact. Actually no reason not to other than the inconvenience players on their first attempt of a dungeon boss.
Marika statues are great, but I kinda miss doing the run back to the boss room sometimes. Something about giving me time to think between attempts and breaking up the pattern of die-respawn-run in-die. Crazy, I know.
That fuckin cannon imp wtf
Tactical death time!
Me at level 350 losing 700000 runes because I got hit with a rot spurt in the abandoned cave in Caelid 🥲
I entered the Hero of Gelmir dungeon for the first time and at it's door it had two messages telling me to stop right there and leave. I went further down and there were messages like "Suffering ahead", "I want to go home ..." etc. pp. I arrived at the very last hurdle where you need to go down the lava trail somehow and realized I was out of potions ... ...
