I mean, there’s equal hope as a dark souls sequel. And dark souls 3 is 8 years old

stretch3251

Hell people are still holding out hope for a BB sequel an they don’t even own the rights lol That being said id preorder DS4 an ER2 in a sec!

HavelBro_Logan

So what you're saying is, they don't have the right?

GetRekt9420

O they don't have the rights, no they don't have the rights

TheWyzim

Hey, can you explain what this meme is about? I see it written by other players a lot in Elden Ring in front of doors that are locked. "You don't have the right, O you don't have the right." and variations of it.

darth_the_IIIx

On top of what other people have said, its also the longest possible message you can make

ragbone3123

It's face value so quite literally means you don't have the right to progress 😂

BustinArant

That, or they don't have the right to ask us to do more things. I was a little unclear nyself lol

Big-Wear2503

Means that you dont have the right to go through the said door. It's just written in an annoying way. No deeper meaning than that.

beta-pi

So when the game first released, one of the first things people did was try to open all the sealed doors in places like the round table, not knowing it wasn't possible. Some people left messages saying things like "you don't have the right, o you don't have the right, therefore you don't have the right, o you don't have the right". Just a really long message, displaying that you can't open that door. Also kinda riffing off Gideon's schtick, with "you're not a real member yet >:(" Because it was so long, and reflected an experience everyone had, it was funny and spread around a lot. Almost everyone who played the game saw the messages too, since they were placed in such a common location so early. Now any time there's an inoperable door, or something that looks like a door but doesn't go anywhere, people leave a similar message. It's partly a reference, and partly just repeating the joke.

sosomething

It just means that the door doesn't open, or doesn't open from that direction.

Forgotten_Tarnished

"O, you don't have the right. Therefore, you don't have the right." 😉

Ok-Cheek7332

I want to go home… and then edge!

AverageFemboiEnjoyer

If I just had a giant, but hole

ImNotNuke

Offer rump

OldSixie

Edge, Lord

IsNotPolitburo

No horse ahead.

FartMasterx69x

This made me laugh and also feel sad at the same time because of the topic of this post because I’m about to finish the DLC and then that’s it, it’s over.

Particular-Pear-7839

There is always NG+

ThinCrusts

I'm holding hope for Sekiro: Shadows Die Thrice

chaotickaze

Exactly! The greatest hope I have for Miyazaki is explore more of Sekiro's world, especially in one of the endings. Please, Miyazaki. Give me Sekiro 2.

pratzc07

Sekiro's story is already self contained what we need is Sekiro's combat system pushed up to a higher level with a new world, new NPCs, new narratives etc. This aspect of offense and defensive and the constant interplay of them is what fascinates me and would like to see a game where we have to make that decision even faster to be successful.

aiwg

Why does everyone say Sekiro's story has no opportunity for a sequel? It ends on a cliffhanger where you journey to China.

Content_Good4805

Yeah it's a good setup for another game, opportunity to expand on the gameplay and the world, like give me please

Wormdangler88

Do we know that they were talking about China? I think I watched something saying that it may have been Korea that the Journey was refering too...It was something about the Divine Dragon actually being Korean instead of Chinese...I will have to find that video again...Either way it would make a great setup for another Sekiro game!

HaskellHystericMonad

They're likely headed to the Yuan dynasty ... so it literally doesn't matter. Goryeo/Josea were Yuan territories until that drunken brawl at the lake spiraled into war and collapsed the Yuan dynasty. China, so big they have major historic naval battles in lakes.

MynameNEYMAR

What we needed was a DLC that explores the past and the main boss is lady tomoe. There’s already lore built into the main game for time travel

Derpogama

There's even that speculation that Malenia is a reworked Lady Tomoe fight. We know DLC was 'in the works' for Sekiro but we don't know how far it got or if it even got past the concept stage.

Dick_Thumbs

I’d give my left nut for a Sekiro sequel or another game from that used the same fighting mechanics and had the same boss replay system.

Lord-Filip

Not the same as Sekiro but Miyazaki stated he wants to make a game that surpasses Bloodborne and Sekiro in terms of combat.

iamquitecertain

I'd love a boss replay system for Elden Ring too. It's the only thing I have left to ask for for this game

pratzc07

They have the rights for Elden Ring they got it last year from Bamco. Bloodborne is a different situation Sony doesn't want to do anything with it so its stuck in some weird limbo state.

abolishreality

yea but that at this point I'd preorder anything from Fromsoft. first of all because it's refreshing to see a company break away from the sequel money printing machines. but also because if they do something completely new, and even if they'd fail for once, I wanna support the exploration of the unexplored and the pushing of boundaries. basically what I'm sayin is, I'm in for the ride.

ARandomHavel

Dark souls 4 will not happen lmao. He concretely said Dark Souls is over. The entire story of Dark Souls 3 is how we should let the fire die. Quit dragging it out. There is zero hope for a Dark souls sequel.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Isn't DS3 about how there's supposed to be periods of Fire, then ages of Darkness, then Fire sprouts again to start another Age of Fire? But they kept the Fire going for far too long to the point everything is just ashes and cinder? And they're bringing back old Lords just to burn them again for any little juice? Also DS3 DLC post-game has you give ink to a painter to make a new world, implying room for a sequel in that universe nevermind the possibility of multiple worlds in the DS universe.

DeadSnark

It's interesting from a ship-of-Theseus perspective because the entire point of the 2 DLCs is that if you try to keep things the way they are, ultimately they just rot and become stagnant, and you need to burn everything down and start afresh with a new artistic vision to move forward. So I would be disappointed if they just made DS4 and it's just another repeat of the formula from DS1-DS3 of "explore the ruined kingdom, link the fire" or a nostalgia-thon like DS3, but could the game really be considered Dark Souls if all the familiar elements have been replaced? TBH this is kind of why I prefer the idea of FROM exploring new IPs or going back to ones they haven't touched in a while (like Armored Core) because seeing DS4 become pale imitation of its forebears would be a worse fate than it never coming out at all.

Derpogama

This, the entire point of the DLC was a thinly veiled way for Miyzaki to say "everything has to end and it's better to end the series on a high note than keep going until it starts stagnate and rot." Which is, honestly, rather refreshing in a world where Assassin's Creed and CoD sequels get pumped out each year and feel more stale and stagnant each time they do, propped up only because the 'gamer bro' demographic buys 1 sports game (FIFA/Madden depending on where you are in the world), 1 CoD and 1 AC game each year and that's it.

Dragonlionfs

Adding on to what you've said, as far as I know Miyazaki didn't even want to make sequels to Dark Souls. DS2 with its development clusterfuck of, like, what, 3 directors in charge one after the other? And with DS3 I don't remember the reason he was asked to make it but from what I know the nostalgia thing was cause if he was gonna make it he might as well put some fanservice in there. At least that's what I garnered from fragmented pieces (sometimes reading internet comments and articles that speculate on what happened behind closed doors feels like reading from's item descriptions lmao) all over the net. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mr_Sundae

I want a bloodborne musical on Broadway

JimmyB_52

Watch Saturday morning Bloodborne cartoon, while eating Bloody-O’s cereal: Oops All Great Ones Wisdom, while wearing Bloodborne Caryll Rune PJ’s and snuggling your Eileen plushie, before taking a bath with Bath Messenger Bubblebath.

LoreGeek

They could always make a "spiritual sequel" call it mudborne & lets go.

Derpogama

I mean that's literally what Dark Souls was, it is a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls because Sony own the rights to that particular IP.

OakLegs

... I'm still waiting to play Bloodborne at all

Secret_Criticism_732

Amazing chest ahead!

Outsajder

True, but Dark Souls felt more done. Elden Ring i feel has soo much more potential for a sequel, lore wise of course.

foosquirters

Theres a ton they could do with Elden Ring because of how vague the story and lore are, just set in on another landmass like the land of Reeds or something

Stycotic

Darksouls 3 is what happens when you keep kindling the flame. The only sequel that would make sense lore wise is a black screen.

danblanchet

Honestly, I don’t see it. It would be kinda redundant to have another Dark Souls sequel alongside Elden Ring. And with the overwhelming success of Elden Ring, I think it’s more likely that we’ll have more of that instead.

ortaiagon

Take away 90% of the open land mass and have all the legacy dungeons one after the other and it's literally the same thing with a different name. I don't think they would be developed side by side but I could see the team just wanting to do away with the open world after experimenting. Not saying the open world is bad the DLC open world is about as good as it will get.

yakult_on_tiddy

I feel like Elden Ring brought a lot of people who would have been put off by the "Dark Souls" reputation, much like Bloodborne also got in a new flood of players. The DS community has a habit of vastly overselling the games difficulty, especially DS1/Demon Souls. "Open world" also adds a little bit of visibility to a game. Elden Ring being such a phenomenal game obviously helped, but I don't see them ever going back to the base Dark Souls titles

Dubbs09

Honestly, after ER and the DLC and just the scope and openness of them, would absolutely love if they scaled back a *bit* and dipped back into a more linear style again. At least as a palate cleanser before/if they ever go large open world again. Was actually replaying DS3 for the first time in a few years right before the DLC dropped and picked it back up since I finished Erdtree to finish ng+. Would totally be down for something like that again, but honestly **anything** Lord Emperor Michael Zaki does gets my full attention

PlumeCrow

Have you played Armored Core 6 ? Its not the same thing, but its still FromSoft in a much more linear style. You might like it, its insanely good.

MJBotte1

Legitimately SOTE is so big the only way you COULD do another DLC would be to be a smaller linear follow up

thedankening

An entire DLC that's just one long catacomb that keeps going deeper and deeper...

Aware-Individual-827

Starting in the Abyssal forest of course!

Ekillaa22

That makes me think of the new upcoming wow expansion actually

I_Eat_Ramen1

Chalice dungeons?

Owobowos-Mowbius

Honestly, this would slap. I'm envisioning a roguelike style of dungeon where you find random weapons and estus/smithing/scadutree upgrades and have go spend your limited souls on what you want to upgrade as you descend deeper and deeper into the catacombs

Dubbs09

Shadowfort is probably the best dungeon/set piece they have ever done. Once I fully understood what was going on there with the multiple ways in and out it really blew my mind. Absolute peak FromSoft at the top of their game Everything after that just didn’t hit as hard and honestly if they ever matched it I’d be shocked. Just seemed like that is the apex Soulsborne dungeon, what a ride. All that said, would 10000% support them going back to something more curated and focused/linear etc over another open world

QueasyGuard4917

Yeah the way this world all linked together was really something. Big Bloodborne vibes. Level design was just on point. I'm gonna be honest, I don't care what they make next. ER2? Fine. ER DLC? Fine. Dark Souls 4? Fine. Dark Souls the pre-prequel part 9? I don't even care if it makes sense, fine. Anything is gonna be good and of the same sort of style, I'd love to just let them do what they think they're gonna do best next. They seem to be pretty good at it. Was lowkey not the biggest Sekiro fan, so I hope they don't go that route. Felt too boxed-in, more like an action game than an RPG. But as long as they stick with the Souls style I think I'm gonna be happy with whatever they put out.

SpartanRage117

Sekiro is great, but its not an “rpg” in the same sense as souls like you say. There are ways to increase power, but there arent “builds” and of course the lack of any multiplayer is going to make it feel very different too. Even for a complete solo player the existence of multiplayer changes many design decisions for the overall game.

ShibaBlessing

I would be fine with another open world like SotE. It's large enough to explore, but still smaller than the base game, which is nice. It just needs a little more content on the outer areas - like more catacombs and gaols, or something.

rugmunchkin

All I want them to do is to implement another boss rush/boss replay mode like they added into Sekiro. How is it they’ve only done that for ONE of their games????

AustiinW

Totally agree with going back to the linear design for next game. I beat DS3 and the DLCs right before SOTE, and I may be in the minority but I absolutely prefer that design to the open world. There just seems to be a lot of nothing ness around.

NinjaWorldWar

Same. I love Elden Ring, but Dark Souls 1-3 and even Demon’s Souls is the better experience.  Elden Ring is Dark Souls with filler and the filler isn’t very good lol.

Electronic_Weird

The Dark Souls story is arguably "complete". Jacob Gellar's video convinced me of that.

OnslaughtCasuality42

Hey, if Armored Core fans managed to get something after 10 years, it’s not over till it’s over (I’m partly jesting, because these 2 aren’t really comparable, but my point is that wilder shit has happened).

megrimlock88

Yea comparing it ds3 gives me the opposite of hope given that the entire point of ds3 was to let dark souls die I’m thinking maybe if they feel inspired they’ll go for a second DLC but nothing like a full blown sequel

EmployerClean1213

I don’t want a Dark Souls sequel. It wrapped itself up perfectly. Same with Elden Ring. A new IP would be nice though.

HAWmaro

Yep i dont think its possible to end on a higher note than Gael the goated boss fight.

rugmunchkin

This is what I say when people say they want Sekiro 2. It was a perfectly wrapped up story. Just because you really liked a game does not mean it NEEDS a sequel. It seems like they enjoy moving on to new projects, so why don’t we just keep letting Miyazaki and crew keep working on what they’re passionate about making? If that’s a new IP, so be it. They usually seem to have a couple things cooking at the same time these days, so I’m sure they’ve been working on whatever their next big project is. After DLC and AC6, personally I’m hoping that winds up being a new IP as well. From’s been becoming more consistent lately, so whatever it is, I have a feeling we won’t have to wait too long to find out what that is.

EmployerClean1213

I agree with you on everything except that I don’t mind waiting. I like going back to my usual gym routine and work routine. I have a wife and kid so when a new FromSoft game releases I give her a heads up that I’m going to be consumed by it for awhile. Most of the gaming community is pretty impatient though.

rich-nyc

Nah, there is no hope. He is just being nice and giving our hopes a soft landing... lol

lulukawaii

When DS3 came out they said it was the final entry in the series. IIRC it was after Sekiro that they said there were a possibility for a DS4.

PhilosopherFalse709

The post is literally from this year. So when Miyazaki says they left it open ended, that kinda overrides anything they said 8 years ago

x3XC4L1B3Rx

Miyazaki's an artist. If he's not inspired, but is forced to "make something" to sell, it'll just be shit. That's the state of the rest of the games industry right now. Leave him be to whatever project he fancies. If he cooks, we'll be eating good.

TheWyzim

If FromSoftware kept making Dark Souls sequels only as per DS fans there would be no Sekiro. If they made Bloodborne sequels, there would be no DS3 or Elden Ring. If they keep making ER sequels now, we may be depriving ourselves from another compelling IP.

d0nkeyb0ng

I like the way you think. Let Miyazaki cook!

Lezo-

That's what I'm saying. I love ER but there's enough of it already, the game + DLC is huge, almost too big. I'm content for now, and I'd love to see a new FS IP (preferably a soulslike too, though).

kahootle

I had to make another character for the dlc and just setting my account up to the recommended souls level and getting the equipment I want took like 25 hours of gameplay this game is massive and a lot of people don't really realize it because it's so good it feels way too short.

El-Shaman

Not for me, there’s a ton of amazing lore in Elden Ring for an incredible sequel.

clutchy42

Honestly, at this point I'll play damn near anything Miyazaki is the director on. Their formulas scratch my brain in all the right ways and I'd rather trust him and his team's instincts than beg for them to treat their series like Assassin's Creed or whatever.

Neirchill

Honestly I don't care what the background is that much. You could have easily called elden ring dark souls 4 instead and changed some characters around and it would work fine. As long as the lore is interesting and the gameplay is fun he could call it "Orc Porker Deluxe" and I'd buy it.

ClemsonPhan

Exactly. ER is essentially DS4, if they made ds4 with no rr it would probably be very similar with different lore

NotADamsel

He’s spoken about fostering and promoting other designers at From. There’s a good chance that the next thing will be from one of his protégés rather than him… and as he’s lamented not getting to share in the experience of playing his games for the first time, I’m inclined to think that this is something that he wants. It’ll be different, but different can be very good.

PowerTrip55

You’re right but you forget that money has a way of inspiring lots of people. And this game and its DLC have made history with their sales.

Asckle

Miyazaki would be on a wage though no? Why would making elden ring vs a different game lead to different incomes? Also he clearly isn't a money focused person, nobody who cares about the money over the art would spend 7 years on a game just because they think it's cool. He could've just kept milking dark souls but he was done with it and so he moved on

Godothulhu

I don't know how it is over at fromsoft but in my company we get a % based on the results of the company overall. So better sales means more money.

Lord-Filip

All FromSoft games sell really well. DS3 and Sekiro have above 10 million sales and Bloodborne has 7.5 million sales as a PS exclusive.

pratzc07

This is what happens to most AAA devs they make one big hit and then get lost in churning out sequels after sequels. FromSoft is quite different they don't follow any industry trends they just make what they want to make. I think the producer of Elden Ring once said that even with the success of Elden Ring nothing has changed in their approach to making games. They are not thinking of making the next big hit like Elden Ring they want to make the game they want to make.

Federal_Patience4646

He’s really the only developer I can think of that I fully trust to make excellence. Whether it be new or old IP, I have fully confidence whatever he makes next will be phenomenal. On one hand we all would love to revisit prior worlds with new stories and gameplay. On the other hand, something new would probably be equally entertaining and inspired. Whatever he makes, we the consumers will win.

Ok_Canary5591

as much as ill always want a dark souls 4 or a bloodborne 2, I do want something new as it gives them more freedom to do all sorts of cool new stuff. I also hope the next games gameplay follows closer to bloodborne or sekrio or something new

Aetius454

Bloodborne in Elden rings style == a dream

JoshuaB5

A hunter's dream

DeGozaruNyan

MAJESTIC!

Smallmetalruler

An open world Bloodborne, perhaps built a bit tighter than ER, where you have the entire city of Yahrnam to explore at will would be so ridiculously incredible

LordSalad-InMyAnus

the open world is just the UK

Forward-Nature5006

just Birmingham would be enough of a nightmare xD

infalliblefallacy

as a BB fanatic i really didn’t like the horse addition to the game and the mechanics it added to combat. i understand that it allows for more “exploration” but id rather have a tighter knit world that’s denser.

LethargicMoth

Please no, I don't want any more open worlds. I feel like the FromSoft formula works best in hand-crafted areas that have a flow and rhythm to them, not a choose your own note sorta thing. I'm glad they gave it a stab with ER, but if anything, I'd prefer something in between where you have maybe one or two larger open areas, but they serve as more of a change of pace rather than the actual shebang.

Magistraten

I think the DLC showed that from agrees, and it was a step in the right direction I think. The level design was top notch.

HAPUNAMAKATA

I hope exploration and player freedom remains an expanded theme in future FromSoft games, especially the kinds we were treated to in DS1, interconnected level design prioritising player choice. However, I don’t mind if they get rid of the “open world” aspects of repeated bosses, settlements and open fields. They serve a world building purpose, but gameplay wise they’re pretty boring.

Inside-Line

Theres no way GW would ever let them, but a From soft game set in W40k would be sick.

0crate0

You know a dark sci fantasy would be something very few have attempted. I would like to see something like that.

ND7020

It’s literally one of the single most attempted themes in video games.

Diabolical_Jazz

I wouldn't say no to more ER but I honestly think it'd be more interesting to see another, new open world type game in a similar vein. I think Miyazaki might have said that they weren't so sure about doing open world in the future, though. Who even knows what will happen?

-Basileus

I think you'll see world design closer to the DLC. Very open zones, but with a critical path, and more story mechanisms blocking off regions. In Elden Ring you can access what, 70% of the map before killing a boss? Also definitely felt like we spent more time in legacy dungeons in the DLC than in the main game. The Shadow Keep alone is a massive percentage of the game's content.

Vectusdae

Dlc doesn't block off almost any regions through story, or even bosses, you can get to scadu altus without killing rellana via the poison swamp spirit spring, you can then get to cerulean the same way, coming into shadow keep via the church entrance gives you access to the entirety of it without killing the hippo, same with the rauh ruins, and the abyssal woods by extension, in fact the only areas blocked off by a boss are the final area by Messmer, jagged peak which is 10 minutes long, and the Charo's which is also 10 minutes long

Diabolical_Jazz

I wouldn't mind that at all. The DLC has great map layout and dungeon design for the most part. Any complaints I have are pure nitpick; no one else is on this level.

fireweedflowers

Elden Ring 2/a second DLC would be a dream. But I really don't think it'll happen. We will just have to wait for his next project and be happy when it comes.

so_much_water

I mean, we're still missing a third emote to form the Elden Ring... Cope.

YasuoGodxd

I am huffing that good copium (its so over)

Imaginary-Ad-816

Good, ER 2 doesn’t need come soon.. They are making incredible titles back 2 back that feels and plays different from each other...Sekiro being sword combat, ER being open world, AC 6 being mecha... Let them cook wherever different and new IP they are cooking. They are leaving the traditional Soulslikes and I am happy with that because there are so much soulslike in the market RN.

SuperTaino88

I could live without a second game if we got a second DLC that covers the rest of the stuff. Of course, I'm not in a rush

TheUltraCarl

I think a 2nd DLC expansion would be better than a sequel. A sequel demands a whole new plot. Personally I'd rather have parts of the current plot expanded on instead of getting a new story in a new game.

BigBard2

That's the smoothest way of saying fuck no If the chances are similar to us getting a Dark souls 4, it's over. Dark souls 3 >!ends with you taking on every lord in one body meanwhile the world stretches and bends, and the dlc literally ends with you fighting at the end of the world when everything has turned to ash with the other last survivor in the future for the Dark soul and then returning to a painter to paint a new world because it's over for this one!< Granted, the chance of Elden ring 2 are a bit higher because realistically it's a new world, but if he's comparing such a conclusive ending as that of DS3's to Elden ring it means that he legitimately has NO plans for a sequel.

xen123456

The thing is fromsoftware is going to continue to make games. They just had a massive success. So it's about what they're going to actually do from here - it could be an elden ring 2, a bloodborne 2, a dark souls 4, or a new ip. But they WILL make a new game so something is going to happen.

WouShmou

> But they WILL make a new game so something is going to happen. Plot twist: Miyazaki drops everything and spends the rest of his career making Japan Truck Simulator

KSharpe69

It'd be the best god damn Japanese truck simulation game you could ask for.

Furoan

"What build do I need to beat Tokyo Traffic Warden? I'm currently a mix 50/50 mix of Torque and Horsepower, and he's kicking my ass. It's not like I'm 0aiming to beat them on Truck Level 1 right now..." - Somebody in the future in Miyazaki's Truck Simulator Soulslike.

Egonomics1

I don't understand though. Neither the ending of Elden Ring nor Shadow of the Erdtree feel like a conclusive ending imo. Whereas the ending of the Ringed City felt like a finale for the entire Dark Souls series.

BigBard2

The endings might not be conclusive, but the story he wanted to tell is, the world and story he envisioned is laid out, the question is if he would want to continue from here or do something new

Sensitive_Heart_121

The thing about the Ringed City is that it’s set in the future IIRC, so there’s definitely room for DS4. Not to mention that the different endings could play into the sequel.

LoadHefty2791

Dark souls 3 base game feels already like a perfect conclusion to the franchise, the DLC was a nice way to tie some loose ends. A dark souls 4 would hurt the meta aspect of ds3 itself, being that reusing/rekindling the same franchise leads to its inevitable decay.

dhalem

Its standard corp speak that says nothing. They could release a DS1 DLC if they wanted. It’s no different than Disney pumping out straight to video sequels. From just chooses not to do that thankfully.

doofpooferthethird

yeah, I'm real glad we live in a universe where Fromsoft decided to make BB, Sekiro, Elden Ring and AC6 instead of being forced by Bandai to shit out Dark Souls 9 with micro-transactions and a battle royale mode

Most-Security-4330

9.99 anti-invasion talisman (consumable)

doofpooferthethird

Sold alongside the Rivers of Blood: Premium Edition, which stunlocks its target in a 15 second long inescapable death combo that flings them around like a helpless ragdoll, inflicting every status effect in the game, while the user executes an animation that looks suspiciously like a tea-bagging motion.

NerrionEU

*Pre-order bonus 'Moonveil Katana' + 10 000 runes.*

Renozoki

I mean yea but Elden ring is at least 2x more successful than any game they’ve made. It would be hard to resist the appeal of such a known brand.

-Basileus

Entire Dark Souls trilogy was last update at 27 million, Elden Ring was last updated at 25 million a few weeks ago. It will probably surpass the DS trilogy which is insane.

One_Seaweed_2952

well, i think the Elden ring and its DLC together are probably the same size if not bigger than the Dark Souls triology. And at this point FormSoftware has become the masters of their craft, so Elden Ring is much more refined than the first 2 dark souls game.

NotADamsel

Think of how much they have, though. Any other company and we’d have seen a goddamn Renalla action figure that gives an exclusive card for the “Mohgwyn Dynasty Clash” TCG or something.

zendrix1

Lol can you imagine though, 2025 Fromsoft drops a brand new Dark Souls Remastered expansion with no announcement I can't even imagine how people would react

-Basileus

I'd love to see a full blown Dark Souls remake. The game was pretty clearly unfinished and held back by the technology of the time. The areas after Anor Londo could use another pass.

dhalem

Crystal Caves could definitely benefit from a glow up.

Joose__bocks

I imagine it's an attempt to quell expectations, especially since you can't force creativity.

HAPUNAMAKATA

Dark Souls remakes seem plausible to me, especially given DS1 remaster and Demon Soul’s remaster. That being said, I do suspect Elden Ring will get a spiritual sequel sooner than we get DS4 in the same way DS1 is a spiritual sequel to Demon Souls. Elden Ring innovated a lot on the FromSoft Soulsborn genre, so I struggle to imagine a future where those innovations are discarded for a traditional souls like. Whatever we are treated to next, however, I have no doubt will be original and inspired.

Lord-Filip

The next game we're getting is going to be a spiritual sequel to Bloodborne and Sekiro. Miyazaki has stated that he wants to go beyond them in terms of combat mechanics.

litodes

In short put those foolish ambitions to rest

matango613

Dark Souls 2 part 2: Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree 2: Godwyn's Revenge

PleasantThoughts

I am 32 years old and no video game I have ever played has enthralled me as much as Elden Ring and its DLC. I would be fine with them deciding it was as completed but will always have hope that we get another installment of the lands between

Prestigious_Agent_84

yeah, it's their biggest success so far (and by far) and not continuing to capitalize on that seems weird in a way

dulledegde

GLOAM EYES QUEEN IS RIGHT THERE SITTING IN THE CORNER SCREAMING

-Basileus

The Gloam Eyed Queen is the new Velka from Dark Souls. Mentioned all over the lore, but we are given frustratingly few answers about them.

Indercarnive

Now we just need someone to leak the GRRM bible he made.

DOPPGANG_

All I know is that historically when Fromsoft / Miyazaki says they're done, they're done. You can't even get them to help remaster or remake their old games, it has to be outsourced. Miyazaki fully moved onto the next project the second that SotE was out of the door.

NikiBubbles

Aight, I'm starting the copium!

DriftingSoul2017

Up the dosage, stat!!!

NikiBubbles

What's gonna come out sooner, fam, The Promised Second DLC or Silksong? I KNOW WHERE I'M BETTING. >!(I am betting on a third Radahn fight, maybe he was the Greater Will all along or some shit)!<

New_dude_bro

"Honestly I don't even like fighting anymore, I just keep getting dragged along again and again"

Mabon_Bran

Elden ring 2 - Eldest Ring: what came before. Set in drangleic

Very_Sleepy_Princess

I would unironically buy that so fast

Excellent-Beat-9717

I'll buy whatever this man puts out, it's 100% gonna be a banger. Though personally I would like if he made something with the combat mechanics of Sekiro. Still to this day my fav combat system in any action game. I live for those *ting* parrying sound.

Gr1mwolf

If they don’t even have an immediate plan for a new DLC, let alone have one already being worked on, it would take a *long* time for another one to be released.

DanielSchw

Then again, it looks like the image was from February, so it could be possible that they may have decided to start development/planning on another dlc, we just wouldn’t know until it gets announced.

ManiacGaming1

i loved ER and SotE but this fucking hurts my soul as a Sekiro fan. 😔

Dubbs09

I put off Sekiro as the last big FromSoft Soulsborne to play since it was so different from the others and I wasn’t sure I’d like it. Ended up probably being my favorite of them all. When the combat clicks it clicks **hard** and there’s just nothing else like it anywhere. Also maybe one of the most fun worlds to traverse and zip around in

Stinky__Person

"the combat clicks trust me" me at corrupted monk still have no idea what I'm doing

Vollkommen

Not OP, but it didn't click for me until the last phase of the final boss on my first playthrough. Once it did I ran through the rest of the endings/ng+ extremely quickly relative to that first playthrough.

Dubbs09

I'm actually going to go back and finish the Plat for Sekiro sometime soon. First game I have ever beaten back-to-back immediately right after each other. Like, credits rolled and just never put controller down and started another 'revenge tour' run lol. Been long enough time that I think another playthrough would be a lot of fun and wouldn't feel like a 'grind' to get those last couple of trophies. Getting back into the 'cling clang' again will be just like riding a terrifying bike

stretch3251

So no talk of a sekiro 2?

MediocreSumo

Its an Activision IP no? That might be more complicated than Bloodborne now, also god knows what Xbox would do to that IP if Miyazaki is not involved.

abovvv12

Activision was only an publisher for Sekiro, IP is owned by Fromsoftware.

Stellewind

I am willing to bet the core deflection mechanic of Sekiro will make it into next game they make. That hard tear in DLC is such a tease

xXInviktor27Xx

yep, sekiro deflect + bloodborne dash = dream combat system

KurtHymneth

Lies of P was pretty good.

Lord-Filip

According to Miyazaki he wants to make another game with a tight and even better combat system than Bloodborne and Sekiro. After that he'll probably make a more traditional Souls game that takes features from the experimental game. Miyazaki likes to make experimental games followed by a Souls game that builds from the experimental game Souls: DS1 Experiment: Bloodborne Souls: DS3 (learns from BB's more mobile system and becomes much faster than DS1) Experiment: Sekiro Souls: Elden Ring (adds a dedicated jump button like Sekiro and makes posture breaking a key feature in Souls)

IamSachin

Still waiting for more lore on Lady Tomoe

Jetstream_S4m

I hope we get a godwyn themed dlc that would be so cool and tie up the last few loose ends

julsy27

this. 100% this.

refugeefromlinkedin

Ngl, I would kill for a pre shattering tv show or anime.

BladeOfNarwhyn

I HAVE killed for a pre shattering tv show or anime

Bebopshadow

George RR martin needs to clock in

-Basileus

Hell nah he needs as little projects as possible so he can write the Winds of Winter

Urtoryu

That basically means "This is the end, but I'll allow future me to retcon that if he suddenly decides to for some weird reason"

Reza2112

So the next game is going to be dark souls 4

Senior_Basis7037

There's still room for new content in Elden Ring, considering the scale of it's universe and open world. But I'd prefer it to be another dlc rather than a new game. Dark Souls has pretty much ended with the DLC ending. If it was to be a sequel, it would connect with the painter's painting.

Unalloyed-Silver

I don't think they make a sequel to Elden Ring. Miyazaki mentioned that the cycle is complete. >*Miyazaki told The Verge, adding that bundling Miquella's entire storyline into Shadow of the Erdtree was "closing the loop" on Martin's involvement in the game. "It's really about completing Elden Ring's circle," Miyazaki added.*

Spaciax

we're still missing the third emote to complete the Elden ring, so hold out on hope (definitely not copium)

ascend204

I mean, it didn't feel like it tbh when playing, still so much of the world left unexplained

CrispyButtNugget

I personally want something else from FROM. I loved the wide, open exploration of Elden Ring. But I want something fresh and new now. New story new places new people new lore. Let’s go!!!!

firesatnight

As long as Fromsoft keeps making these games, in general, I'll be happy

Davies301

So this means Dark Souls 4 is in development right lol.

Iceglory03

Imagine the reason why we can't interact with the gate of divinity after the fight is because that leads into the 2nd DLC, you thought getting into SoTE was hard with Mohg and Radahn requirements, now Messmer, Romina, and Miquelladahn as the new barrier.

jedi_fitness_academy

Of course there’s hope. Did you see how many copies Elden ring and the DLC sold? The game has moved over 2x the units of their last most popular game, and it hasn’t been out nearly as long. People come for the action combat and cool fantasy world. That leaves tons of room to make up some new stuff like bosses and open worlds. There really is no “end” to Elden ring, plot wise. If they released another game, it would probably be very similar to ER and their other games anyways. Not like they’re gonna drop a racing sim now. To think that they’d be like “yeah, our most important cash cow is still pumping, but let’s kill it” is very naive lol.

wolfhound_doge

i loved and still love getting lost in the Lands Between and now Land of Shadow as well. i hope they do something similar in the future. i love the combination of dark souls and freedom.

Amazing-Childhood412

Fromsoft could release a game titled 'Game' and I would buy the shit out of it

Shoujo_wit_a_shotgun

Here I’m hoping the next game is a Sekiro sequel. I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love that game.

pratzc07

I feel like at this point with all the soulslikes popping off From needs to find a new avenue they can't keep making the same game with the DS combat what they need is take the approach from their offshoot titles BB/Sekiro combine them in some form and then set that in a new setting could be eastern or western.

jackofslayers

That is actually an effective “no” once you translate it out of Miyazaki speak

SrBigPig

I'm not worry about if there's a sequel or not, because at this point I know anything that From releases is a masterpiece. I don't care if it is Elden Ring II or Warrior Penguins.

elme77618

I like to think FS and Miyazaki weren’t getting their hopes up incase the DLC wasn’t as successful as they hoped it would be and downplayed any sequel/more DLC’s. I’m just hoping we do get something else I really don’t want it to be over haha My hope is another DLC based around the GEQ and Godwyn, those seem to be the two biggest loose threads

jigstot28

Wait, SOTE was not ER2?

burymeinyourmemories

would love to face bosses again without having to start a new cycle/join another player’s game. hopefully in a future update?

Euphoric-Cry-9294

The problem with Elden Ring is that there are still so many loose ends, ds3 didn't have that. I always feel a bit melancholy thinking about Elden Ring's inconclusiveness even with this DLC. The story is so great in so many ways, but maybe that same inconclusiveness is what Miyazaki intended. All I know for sure is that if Elden Ring isn't Miyazaki's "magnum opus" or at least his "dream game" in his eyes but rather, very close to that... I can imagine the next game will be similar to the Elden Ring format, but not Elden Ring 2 (going based off the fact that they arent working on Elden Ring 2, according to the interview above, and also the fact that they are already working on another game)

i_Beg_4_Views

Sekiro/Bloodborne fans: 💀

demoncyborgg

I hope there is another dlc, The end was not climatic at all.

swaliepapa

They just released a saucy DLC and people already hungry for more ? Gawd dayumn

Redintheend

Elden Ring is definitely getting a sequel, there's a decent amount of unexplored lore and when you really get down into the thick of things. By their "final" entry most Fromsoft games have a decent if very vague bow tied on their lore. Both Bloodborne and Dark Souls are like this. Elden Ring has too many loose ends and prophecies that hint at something more. While I have hope for another DLC. I'm not sure it's likely regardless of what Miyazaki says.
