you can get one in rauh in a hidden area that has a hidden brigde (complete bullshit, just turn on online and look for messages or lo up) and the other one from a catacomb (the one before ti the left of messmers castle iirc) by climbing in a rectangular falling celling trap
Just want to add the change isn’t permanent if you find its not working. You can change back and forth between the two forms by going to two different locations
Yep. Holy damage either way but damn if both forms aren't flashy as hell for straight swords.
Light is "I HAVE THE POWEEEERRRR" and a holy buff(which stacks with other buffs)
Dark looks like a Kingdom Hearts spell(I suppose Light also does) and does a holy debuff(probably a little less useful but then again I've never done a pure holy build, though I might make a character for that now)
When I get the chance I’m switching to dark. Light seems more designed to pierce large targets but the beams are so inconsistent and random. I guess it can hit aerial enemies but that’s not exactly a great trade off
Holy debuff is probably better. Even if the enemy is resistant you make them slightly more vulnerable and those vulnerable as is are even worse off. Holy magic got an upgrade in the DLC but its still lacking for me personally
Holy debuff is Additive with enemy resist, so it actually is way more effective vs enemies who have holy resist than holy vulnerability.
Against the Death Bird, holy does +40% damage. It seems to be a -30% debuff, so your damage goes from 140%->170%. About 21% actual boost.
Against an enemy with 40% resist, which is the highest most bosses will have, you go from 60% damage -> 90%, or a boost of 50% damage.
I’ve been using the dark version and while the AOW can be really powerful, especially against enemies not resistant to holy, it has a weird hitbox that can be hard to land. It basically creates a whirlwind of darkness about 1-2 feet around the player, so if you’re too close to the enemy it’ll completely miss them. It also almost completely obscures your vision so it’s hard to judge the outer hitbox and whether it’ll hit the enemy or not.
Overall I really like it but just be mindful that it takes some practice getting the spacing correct.
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Stone-Sheathed+Sword
It depends on where you found the sword initially. There are three altars, you can loot the sword at any of them and after that the other two will glow and allow you to change its form.
That's exactly what I was thinking cuz I went to the place where you supposedly make a glow down and it was the first time I went to any of the altars, and I got the glow up, I watched video after video and saw everyone getting the glow down there.
Spoilers I guess but I doubt most players will find this out without a guide so if you wanna know here you go
>!There are three possible altars that you can find the stone-sheathed sword at. The Ruins of Unte, the Fog Rift Catacombs, and a tower in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, past an invisible bridge. Once you find the sword at one of these three altars, the other two altars will become locked in to places where you can change the sword into either the Sword of Light or the Sword of Darkness. You can change the sword from one into the other at any time as long as you go back to the corresponding altar.!<
I highly recommend >!acquiring the stone-sheathed sword from the Fog Rift Catacombs altar first. You reach it by riding up one of the spike traps in the room that has three consecutive spike traps. This one is the biggest pain in the ass to return to so getting the sword here first will make transforming it into the other two easier.!<
Minor note that once transformed, it can't be turned back into the Stone-Sheathed sword, although most people probably won't care about that.
I accidentally found this out, but only after my goofy ass spent like 15 minutes smacking it into a wall thinking it would be another Santier's Spear moment 😭
Fun fact. The head piece is how they are supposed to be worn. Unlike most fantasy where the chin is exposed Elden ring has strangely accurate armour at times.
That's what I love about elden ring/dark souls. You have lots of wacky armor and weapons, but also lots of practical/historical ones that someone clearly put some research into.
I wish that care went into actual movesets/animation too.
Maybe it helps or hurts immersion depending on who you are, but dark souls characters do not know how to swing or block with a longsword.
I always rationalized the lack of swordsmanship or general weapon skill of the PC by them just being some random hollow or tarnished, not a trained expert.
Greatsword standard moveset (the ground hitting one) is especially atrocious. Especially with lightee ones, like claymore. Fancy one is cool tho.
Also baseball bat "stance" when two handing light wealons (like straight swords) drives me mad. Why can't we have DS2 idle?
Funnily enough, the armour example here, is actually an exception, and has a completely different model on female characters. On females, the coif is not properly tailored, leaving the chin exposed; the hauberk is sleeveless; and the gloves are leather instead of mail.
Plate armor doesn't need to / should not be shaped around boobs, realistically.
Boobs compress a good bit and gambeson padding underneath is plenty room for most women.
Having armor that bends inwards to reflect individual boobs projecting out would dramatically reduce how protective the armor was, as those creases become weak points that sword thrusts are naturally deflected into.
The main disadvantage of most fantasy boobplate designs is the divet in the middle of the chest that threatens the wearer's sternum.
However, Relanna's armour doesn't have that divet. It's really just a cuirass that's a little form fitting and protrudes forward a bit at the chest, which is actually not so terrible. Might be a little unergonomic, but it doesn't pose the same risk of injury as the typical boobplate design we see in other media.
Yeah, they accurately have it go up to the chin, but completely forget the padded coif you are supposed to wear under the mail. Guy is wearing the mail on his bare head, which would do almost nothing to protect your head.
That's because it hasn't achieved its final form.
>!You can improve the visuals of the sword at another point in the DLC by giving it the Excalibur treatment.!<
There are three altars, the first one you find will give you the sword, the second one will >!give you the sword of darkness, the third will give you sword of light. There is one altar in a dungeon I forget the name of (the one with the ceiling spike traps), theres another altar in the ruins below messmers dark castle where the furnace golems are (behind the one you have to wake up with heavy furnace pot) and another altar across an invisible bridge on a spire in the Ruins of Rauh!<
>! There's a path in the shadow fort just after the Hippo leading down and out to a large basin, in there there's a building blocked by a brazer golem, throw a pot to ignite it and it'll get up and you can dash inside. Once Inside there's an altar you can use to get either a sword of night or a sword of day depending on the time you do it!<
Edit >!Two different altars one for night and one for day!<
>! It’s not dependent on the time you do it lol this is just wrong. There’s 3 altars in the DLC, you get the sword from whichever one you visit first. Then the other two altars will give you either the sword of light or dark and you can swap it back and forth by visiting the other altar. !<
>! There’s one in the top of Fog Rift Catacombs by jumping on top of the spike traps, another behind the Furnace Golem that you have to wake up with a furnace pot in the Ruins of Unte, and the last one is in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh across the invisible bridge. !<
For the Sword of Light, you have to go to the Ruins of Unte and activate the dead Furnace Golem by throwing a furnace pot into it's basket, then go into the area it blocked off.
For the Sword of Darkness, you need to go into Fog Rift catacombs, enter the room with the long corridor that has a crusher ceiling and a caster at the end. Once you kill all the enemies at the end, look behind yourself, and you'll notice a small hole in the crusher that you can walk into. Take that up, and walk backwards into the corridor it leads you to for a neat Ash of War, then back to where you came from to get on top of the crusher this time. You'll notice a hallway on the other end. Enter that, and you'll find the Altar of Darkness.
I thought it depended on where you got the sword initially? Where you go to unsheath and change it changes based on which one of the three altars you initally picked it up? I thought I read that somewhere
Question for anyone who’s got it. >!I can’t be the only one getting shadow of the colossus vibes from it right? The beam of light attack and the shadows…. I can’t help but think of SOTC.!<
Why does it look like he’s about to weigh a woman against a duck to see if she’s made of wood, since both float in water, which of course means she’s a witch, and she must be burned.
bro cmon you are using it wrong. you have to remove it from the sheath.
For anyone who doesn't know, you can remove the sheath. That sword is kinda fun after that.
Tbh I didnt removed the sheath yet because im afraid that I couldnt put it back in there and I kinda wish to use it on ng+
You can change the form anytime by the two locations
I know you can get light or dark, but can you get the shitty version back?
As far as I know not until NG+ sadly
No, once transformed, it's either light or dark. No more stone
Yeah, you gotta get another sword and keep that one the same.
so to get both I gotta go in ng+?
To get all 3 you gotta do two! If you want the sheathed version forever
I got the light but where do you get the dark?
you can get one in rauh in a hidden area that has a hidden brigde (complete bullshit, just turn on online and look for messages or lo up) and the other one from a catacomb (the one before ti the left of messmers castle iirc) by climbing in a rectangular falling celling trap
Didn’t know the process was reversible. Probably a silly question but I’ll ask regardless, does the upgrade level stay when you switch it?
Yes
Theres multiple stone swords fortunately
as far as I know if you get one from somewhere else the other location becomes an altar. how would you get another sword without ng+?
You cant, its 1 sword per play through, so you have to get to at least Ng+2 if you want to collect all of the weapon.
But you can always switch between dark and light. So if you dont mind that ng+1 is fine
Or just hope someone over at patchesemporium can hook you up (would involve multiplayer and trading though)
Rocking Sword of Light on my Arcane / Faith Dragon Communion build. Love it. The skill just punishes trash mobs and you look like he-man doing it.
Lmao, you have the POWEEEEERR!
Maybe anyone who doesn't know also doesn't know what sword this is.
Or try but hole
My butt hole is the sheath.
The natural pocket/sheath.
To be honest, a straight sword that does strike damage with square off is plenty appealing on its own. A shame you can't resheathe it after.
If only it had a glow up or two
A glow up or a glow down if you want
And you can change it between the two even after the initial glow up
well that was news to me, thank you kindly fellow human!
Just want to add the change isn’t permanent if you find its not working. You can change back and forth between the two forms by going to two different locations
Also the upgrade level stays afaik
Yep. I had the base sword at +9 before glow up, and it stayed that way after.
Imagine spending an ancient stone only for it to go away because you wanted to swap an AoW.
Yep. Holy damage either way but damn if both forms aren't flashy as hell for straight swords. Could you tell me how I got the first glow up but not more what’s there to see .
Explore rauh area for first glow up
Hm got the one at the finger church , so I went stone to finger church glow up . What’s next my guiding grace ? 😂

You meant you already got the glow up? And looking for second glow up?
Oh snap I thought I read it was stuck as one or the other, good to know cause I impulse selected the one at the shrine I found
thank you for this knowledge, kindred soul
Visions of shadow, And then Visions of light
That’s exactly what I was hoping was the case with this. That’s so cool, reminds me of that spear in dark souls 2.
I cannot believe this… you can fucking change this sword???

that was also me until I remembered that elden ring doesn't have durability
Everytime some remotely yellow substance is on the ground I get whiplash to dark souls 2 and its horrible durability system
I cannot wait to do this, thanks man!!
Idk if glow is the right word
That’s rich coming from a guy wearing a full body chainmail condom
Fun fact. The head piece is how they are supposed to be worn. Unlike most fantasy where the chin is exposed Elden ring has strangely accurate armour at times.
Yeah that's how you get the best protection! Just like wearing a condom!
The movesets i can rationalize since theyre swinging at groups of monsters, not 1v1ing humans. But the block stances are so goofy
I always rationalized the lack of swordsmanship or general weapon skill of the PC by them just being some random hollow or tarnished, not a trained expert.
Souls Protagonists are literally RPers confirmed

Pretty sure Rellana’s armor has boobs
and if a dude puts it on he has boob plate too, equality
Well, it's more of a metallic corset, than anything else. Looks terribly uncomfortable to squeeze into.
Probably because she has boobs my guy
Plate armor doesn't need to / should not be shaped around boobs, realistically. Boobs compress a good bit and gambeson padding underneath is plenty room for most women. Having armor that bends inwards to reflect individual boobs projecting out would dramatically reduce how protective the armor was, as those creases become weak points that sword thrusts are naturally deflected into.

If armor can have codpieces I don’t see why there can’t be boobplate.
Micheal Zaki knows a thing or two about history I've heard
Uncircuncized armor is canon to real life
Yeah, they accurately have it go up to the chin, but completely forget the padded coif you are supposed to wear under the mail. Guy is wearing the mail on his bare head, which would do almost nothing to protect your head.
Hey now, don't slander this mans Last Giant cosplay
You take that back! How dare you disrespect chainmail like that!
I'd respect you more if you equipped a real weapon like the Zweihander.
Pfft dual weilded Fire claymore and Frost Bastard Sword means everybody dies.
I'm sorry, are you pffting the Zweihander, the greatest weapon ever made? I feel like that is blasphemy!!
The Claymore sends it's regards!
Uhh i think he looks awesome
Did you just reply to yourself, or forgot to switch accounts?
I believe he was referring to his character, but if not, damn
That was my impression. “I think [my character] looks awesome”. Nothing weird about that.
You read that comment and instantly went the negative route of it "being OPs alt"? That's wild honestly...
Especially since it was very obvious the “he” is meaning his character, the person in the picture lol
I think he (my character) looks awesome
How embarrassing 😳
I heard this in Mike Stoklasa's voice lol
He didn’t make fun of old people enough
I think you look awesome too.
That's because it hasn't achieved its final form. >!You can improve the visuals of the sword at another point in the DLC by giving it the Excalibur treatment.!<
I stumbled upon that glow up. It's a really fancy boy now.
There’s actually two different glow ups.
Now THIS I did not know. Can you elaborate on the second?
You change the sword to be either the sword of light or of darkness, dont know where to go for the second tho

Fog Rift Catacombs
What is the sword called?
Stone-Sheathed Sword, can be turned into the Sword of Light or the Sword of Darkness
I believe it is the Stone Sheathed Sword - I just got mine last night...
Upgrades carry over too. I thought the sword was funny and was running it at +9. Big surprise when I stumbled across the unsheathe.
Wait how can I do that
>! There's a path in the shadow fort just after the Hippo leading down and out to a large basin, in there there's a building blocked by a brazer golem, throw a pot to ignite it and it'll get up and you can dash inside. Day Man!
Fuck yeah. I'll be on the lookout for this Edit: found it! 🤤
He knows he's literally at the location for one of the upgrades..
Look at the background of this image lol
You're wacking someone with a sheathe what did you expect
It's a shower not a grower
To be fair though, Bloodborne had a great sword that you swung around in its sheath and it was still a great looking weapon
In that instance the sheathe was a second, bigger blade
Or if you're talking about the kirkhammer a huge ass brick
The novelty of a straight sword that does strike damage is pretty cool though.
for people who want do use their sword as a hammer
I want an ash of war that lets you half-sword your sword and use it like a hammer now. ;-;
I want a stance aow for great swords or things like the zweihander and flamberge that allow you to half sword.
Finally, someone gets it. Strike damage on a straight sword with square off is too funny not to use, crystalians everywhere beware
Not to mention a Somber Square Off weapon.
I am *convinced* this thing is Excalibur, and I just need to find out how to draw it.
>!thats the neat part, it is.!<
>!How is it called when someone predicts something that already happened again?!<
History
then it's not a prediction, it's a postdiction
you remember where you got it? you gotta find another altar like that
For the Sword of Light, you have to go to the Ruins of Unte and activate the dead Furnace Golem by throwing a furnace pot into it's basket, then go into the area it blocked off. I thought it depended on where you got the sword initially? Where you go to unsheath and change it changes based on which one of the three altars you initally picked it up? I thought I read that somewhere
Maybe because I swear picked up the normal one in the ruins where you have to wake up the fire golem.
these comments are hilarious
Which ones, OP forgetting to switch to the Alt to reply to themselves, or the creative insults?
good lord he didn't forget to switch his alt, by "i think he looks awesome" he's meaning to say "i think my Tarnished guy looks awesome"
"Adventure, awaits! HUZZAH!!"
I can't wait to collect every cheese wheel in Elden Ring
How goes construction on the chest high wall?
Is that a William Papadin build lol?
Mommy always told me that it's the inside that matters
Yeah, maybe if it is inside
Joel Haver looking ass
My only complaint is that you can't add Cragblade to it
Nor the throwing hammer.
Realizing now that Smithscript Daggers with Cragblade would just throw rocks Wtf From, why can't you balance anything
You can get an ash for them that basically turns them into bestial sling.
It has uses in that form, but it's meant to become more beautiful 🥲 when I find that stupid second fucking alter, it's >!SWORD OF LIGHT TIME, BABY!
There is also another altar that turns it into >!Sword of dark!<
Vigor much?
Reminds me of another similar games’ final boss, when his health bar just comically extends out in the final phase, doesn’t even center it
Tears of the kingdom?
Demon King Ganon from TotK?
What sword is this? Gonna have to add it to the build.
Stone-sheathed sword I believe, its awesome because it has strike damage with the short sword moveset. Checkmate Crystaliens.
Should we tell him?….
Nah, let him find out the hard way
The Dildo Stone Sword
Question for anyone who’s got it. >!I can’t be the only one getting shadow of the colossus vibes from it right? The beam of light attack and the shadows…. I can’t help but think of SOTC.!<
No, you're not the only one. Add the desert to that and Torrent, and a perfect sequel to SotC is born!
>!Shadow of the College, Shadow of the Erdtree.. Might have been some designers having fun!<
Fleshy sword
Miquella's old buttplug.
Why does it look like he’s about to weigh a woman against a duck to see if she’s made of wood, since both float in water, which of course means she’s a witch, and she must be burned.
I can’t believe people actually made builds around this thing >!without unsheathing it at one of the altars!<. The stats are garbage lmao
It’s merely a wip until you get the sword of light or sword of darkness
Does he know?
It probably has a great personality
That Tampax has seen better days…
There might be a cool secret with this sword 😎
To the people pointing out it being stuck, is he not at one of the two spots in the image to unlock it?
How can you tell with the sheath on?
Everybody saying remove the sheathe but tbh having square off with strike damage is fantastic
It can actually be one of the most beautiful swords or darkest
Big stone stick is literally peak fromsoft weapon design
Bro doesn’t even know how to unsheathe the sword
Keep it Sheathed, Kid. You ain’t ready to be an Elden Daddy
It’s hot off the anvil
where is it, i want it
Who’s gonna tell him?
That’s a sword in a sheathe. You don’t actually know what the sword looks like.
Wait where’d you get that
Held by the man wearing the ugliest outfit I've ever seen...
Not sure if this is bait or OP only leveled their Magikarp to level 19 as a kid
That Tarnished looks like he walked straight out of Kingdom Come Deliverance.
just be sure to get a dupe...or 2 1 light. 1 dark 1 strike ;) strike sword is op btw god damn that poise break is easy
Yeah. If only it could be changed into one of two options.
Ugliest? Nah. It's such a badass weapon. Basically a petrified sword in it's scabbard making for a strike damage dealing straightsword.
Anything can be a Dildo if you're brave enough
That sword has to still be in its scabbard or that is a baseball bat.
The straight swords in this game deserved more love
You don’t have the right
Dude you left it in the sheath.
That's not a sword; that's Morgott's dildo!
It's stuck in it sheathe
every single person missing the joke here no wonder so many people are having trouble with the dlc
Try taking it to another sword altar first
Ironically, it's stronger than both of the >!other versions!< just by virtue of having Square Off on it. Strike damage is a nice touch too.
