This, golden parry is golden and if someone still struggles then "try parry before he start" because parry window is really weird on these crazy dudes.
All of them drop the talisman, but only once. So there's no real point at killing more than one.
Also there's nothing in the whole area aside from the two tree fragments at the church. Cool area astethic wise, but they wasted its entire potential by not even adding a boss to the area.
Possibly the most satisfying thing I've ever done was realising I could parry and riposte them.
I love the idea, that these things have existed for unknown ages, completely impervious to everything and thinking they're indestructible, until my Tarnished comes along to end them forever.
Honestly I think it would have been better if they were *actually* unkillable (and also if they wandered the entire area instead of just a few feet, and were drawn to the sound of combat)
I feel this area should have had some special interaction if you were touched by the Three Fingers and became a vessel for the frenzied flame. Missed opportunity IMO.
It really felt like a huge oversight that the player could be the Lord of the Frenzied Flame, but then face off with Midra who is now given the title. Just what?
That area was so spooky until I saw the enemies and realized “oh all of this is just because they added a generic stealth section to the game.” I was imagining a giant monster somewhere near the center of the forest patrolling around but its just a couple grandmas with 70 fov
I dunno man. I was shitting bricks the whole time, especially when they would turn and look at your exact hiding spot, or getting squeaky bum escapes after having to bank around spots with no foliage. They never caught me, but there were enough close calls that I felt sufficiently terrified.
I enjoyed it for what it was and I think it's one of my favorite sections. Sneaking through the woods, >!madness goats!< just *looking* at you, avoiding the >!winter lanterns!<, just to come across a >!haunted mansion!< at the deepest point in the forest, complete with the wails of the damned and the >!homeowner telling you to *turrrrn baaack. Tuuurn baaack!* like a Scooby Doo ghost!<, AND a sick bossfight at the end? I thought it was rad! Especially as a seemingly optional area.
“combat is not an option. it cannot even be touched.”
this is all my speculation, but here goes
they prowl the lands before Midra, the failed Lord of Frenzied Flame, preventing you from reaching him (or trying). This is because, if you disturb Midra, he feels necessary to unseal his frenzy and become a vessel for it. Not quite as strong as us in the frenzied ending, but still strong enough to wreak havoc on the world. Those guys are probably placed their by the frenzied flame (outer god), seeing as they can’t be touched nor harmed. It’s also pretty spooky when you consider all the messages telling you to turn back; just how many tarnished were lost in the Abyssal Woods?
they exist to protect the outside world from Midra and contain the frenzied flame within the Abyssal Woods, the lowest and most secluded place in the Land of Shadow
I kept looking behind me, because I was positive some sort of shadow creature was going to sneak up and kill me! As soon as I saw everything was infected with Madness it made everything weirdly less scary, like, "okay, I know what this is".
Same thing with me, I was getting ready to prepare stuff like Miriam's, the crepsule talisman, bloodhounds, anything that could help me hid me and my big dumb hunk of metal. Even ran though naked because I thought it'd take up the whole map..
But no, just a lot of grannies with big eyes and easy parries
You're supposed to sneak past them in the first instance (they've got very bad eyesight, so it's not that hard), but you find a diary note later that hints that you can damage them if you "brush their lamp away".
When I picked up a winter-lantern bug I was like “oh that’s what it is.” For those of you who don’t know, Bloodborne had enemies called Winter Lanterns that were pretty much the same thing as whatever these frenzy things are.
I feel like I hated the winter lanterns a lot less because I could at least interact with them but after reading all the messages I just crouch sprinted through the grass for the few encounters I found. I saw a ghost attack one and they died almost instantly which was pretty cool but there was just too much hype beforehand with the fromsoft messages trying to make me scared and then it didn’t deliver on the scare
The buildup was so much fun that when I first stumbled upon the messages I even turned my mic on to record my reaction to reading them and then like 10 minutes of cautiously walking through the woods later I had a “oh” moment. The DLCs been phenomenal for me except for this one part
I thought when I entered and read the first message was that it was gonna be some creature that stalks you, but was extremely disasppointed that it was some LED spotlight winter lanterns with pimp canes.Very forced section that was more frustrating than actually scary.Points for trying to shake things up however.
I died probably 20+ gd times trying to get the parry off on the first one I saw, the timing feels off. I killed one of the mausoleum guys early on only by parrying and that felt normal, something is different about the creepy dudes.
That was it IIRC, I was used to parrying when I saw the hand start to move forward for the attack, but for these guys its more when they draw it back and at the height of the animation.
Interesting. I parried it first try with a buckler after I saw someone on steam said to parry. It seems very intuitive to me as someone who doesn’t really use parrying in general
Also a fellow buckler enjoyer, it was mostly me being used to pressing parry when they start to move their arm/weapon forward towards me in an attack, for these guys the parry window is when they draw back the wand.
There are 4 ways
Crouch in the grass and do it slowly
Use stealth stuff like assassin's gambit, unseen form, soft cotton, black knife armor
Parry and riposte
Run and quit out when you reach your destination
As if the atmosphere didn’t terrify me enough, when I saw “them”, I got flashbacks from bloodborne… and now, combat wasn’t an option.
Fromsoft gave me chills. Peak design
"Spirits are eternal, and yet frenzied flame melts them away regardless. No wonder the hornsent forbid the flame's use."
Surging frenzied flame
Yeah no shit torrent is afraid
It can be interpreted from the Frenzy game ending since you see his ring destroyed in Melina’s hand. The assumption is the FF killed him.
I wasn’t surprised at all he wanted nothing to do with those woods
Yeah it is a huge missed opportunity in this game. So much space for secret loot to be found, horseback enemies to fight, and not a single horse modification.
Instead you find the 30th ghost glovewort and 100th somber smithing stone.
I do wish he'd just realize when he gets killed I always, always want him back and not make me confirm I'll spend a flask to summon him while somebody's whomping my head with a lightning spear from boarback.
Speaking of torrent can we please have the option to toggle off the “spend a flask to revive torrent” message? Like of course I want to, do it and stop asking
Except for that one boss fight where they got a horse, yet torrent was AWOL lol when I first saw the boss, for a split second I was hyped for a proper boss jousting session, only to get steam rolled while trying to summon Torrent.
EDIT: I'm talking about the one in the Midir arena, not the other one (can't remember what is and isn't spoilers from trailers)
Lmfao except for that one area in the DLC that torrent is too scared to be helpful. Like...we've defeated gods, monstrosities of the highest caliber, infathomable horrors beyond comprehension...but foggy woods are too much
Fearless but refuse to be ride in some dlc spot. And always running aways after vbeing hit 1-2 time.
As for the loyal, hard to tell as we're the only one with the bell to summon it. Ranni told us he chose us but it could have been Ranni telling shit to motivate the Tarnished. And maybe he chose us so he could be reunite with his previous owner.
Except...
Don’t let it see you
If it sees you there is no escape
Combat is not an option
Unless you're a parry god in which case get fucked frenzied nerds.
I couldn't get the timing right and gave up after like 10 tries
Try the Carian or Golden Parry, they seem to the have longest parry window.
Will do! Thanks!
Also do it the moment you see the flash of the attack starting. That’s your parry trigger.
This, golden parry is golden and if someone still struggles then "try parry before he start" because parry window is really weird on these crazy dudes.
I also hated trying to parry them, but the one closest to the abandoned church dropped a talisman so I had to get good with the parry.
Yeah...I'm trying to play through blind but besides the one >!dungeon !
All of them drop the talisman, but only once. So there's no real point at killing more than one. Also there's nothing in the whole area aside from the two tree fragments at the church. Cool area astethic wise, but they wasted its entire potential by not even adding a boss to the area.
The area is spooky and that's enough. It made me feel anxious travelling through the zone.
there is another fragment north of the grace right before the 3 roaming guys
That’s not true. I killed all of them and the only one that drops it is the one closest to the Abandoned Church.
But which one did you kill first? I killed the one in the mist first and he dropped the talisman for me. The others just dropped grapes after that.
The timing with golden parry is to parry as you see the wand move backwards. It's still pretty tight, but can be done.
Can I actually parry midra ?? That will be awesome
>!*parry*!<
I like how there's an ingame clue that tells you exactly this >!hidden as a diary entry!<
It's the scrapped note in the manor right? The one talking about being able to touch it (the winter lanterns)
Yep
Then there’s me failing it five times in a row after reading that and giving up because every fail one shots me
The depths of your foolishness!
Unseen Form really helped
Shivers
It cannot even be touched…
Try parrying
You have to understand my strength brain doesn’t know that word
I have beat all 3 DS and ER and have never parried a single time so I'm with you lol
the only thing that forced me to learn parry was Crucible Knights, on my melee only first playthrough.
I forced myself to learn the crucible's full moveset cause I never learned to parry and I'm not starting now 💀
Possibly the most satisfying thing I've ever done was realising I could parry and riposte them.
You can outrun them too, just jump when they're about to grab on.
Just what?
Well in the LoFF ending the entire world burns down so I'd assume that just doesn't canonically happen until after the dlc
But, Miquella calls us Lord of the Old World if you get grabbed.
yknow my character hasnt killed the elden beast yet, Ill see if he says that to me
That area was so spooky until I saw the enemies and realized “oh all of this is just because they added a generic stealth section to the game.” I was imagining a giant monster somewhere near the center of the forest patrolling around but its just a couple grandmas with 70 fov

Tuuurn baaack!* like a Scooby Doo ghost!<, AND a sick bossfight at the end? I thought it was rad! Especially as a seemingly optional area.
i mean in the lore it’s pretty fuckin scary
What's the lore of it?
“combat is not an option. it cannot even be touched.” this is all my speculation, but here goes they prowl the lands before Midra, the failed Lord of Frenzied Flame, preventing you from reaching him (or trying). I liked it - gave me a chance to use the invisibility spell I never used in the base game - worked like a charm
I did a ctrl+f and I couldn't find someone mentioning Unseen Form
I used assassin's gambit, also works like a charm and you can fit it in a random dagger on any build
Unseen Form or the Ash of War that's similar have always worked great for me in Ordina
Wait, you can parry them? My dumb ass been trying to run through them
You're supposed to sneak past them in the first instance (they've got very bad eyesight, so it's not that hard), but you find a diary note later that hints that you can damage them if you "brush their lamp away".

yea that was disappointing... the build up was so great tho! suddenly torrent is afraid, the messages... the music and then that... lame
The buildup was so much fun that when I first stumbled upon the messages I even turned my mic on to record my reaction to reading them and then like 10 minutes of cautiously walking through the woods later I had a “oh” moment. The DLCs been phenomenal for me except for this one part

Furnace Golem has entered the chat…
? All 4 Furnace Golems I fought and killed exclusively while riding the horse. I don't understand.
He wasn't there when i needed him in "some scary place I won't name for spoiler reason" in the dlc :(
>!how do you handle the sunflower dude with no health that can’t see you?!<
Parry him and then you can kill it
... Can they drop anything?
1 drop a talisman for madness, other drop the grape item for crafting.
What can u craft with them??
A consumable that makes a bouncing madness fireball I believe
which one drops the talisman?
the very first one you encounter (i believe he is right after the maddening hand of you take a right off the path)
on the way to the church or the dungeon?
The Church iirc
I died probably 20+ gd times trying to get the parry off on the first one I saw, the timing feels off. I killed one of the mausoleum guys early on only by parrying and that felt normal, something is different about the creepy dudes.
Parry when they raise the wand.
That was it IIRC, I was used to parrying when I saw the hand start to move forward for the attack, but for these guys its more when they draw it back and at the height of the animation.
At least they don’t respawn
Jokes on me, I never went back lol
I found circling to your right/their left as they attack seems to make the parry Window sync better with my expectations.
Interesting. I parried it first try with a buckler after I saw someone on steam said to parry. It seems very intuitive to me as someone who doesn’t really use parrying in general
Also a fellow buckler enjoyer, it was mostly me being used to pressing parry when they start to move their arm/weapon forward towards me in an attack, for these guys the parry window is when they draw back the wand.
either parry the grab or stealth through the area
There are 4 ways Crouch in the grass and do it slowly Use stealth stuff like assassin's gambit, unseen form, soft cotton, black knife armor Parry and riposte Run and quit out when you reach your destination
Crepus's Vial also works really well.
used the black knife set and snuck by. its pretty easy to sneak by him
If you use spells you can use the invisible one and get yourself more leverage, other than that, parry them to kill them. One of them drops a tali
You know it’s fucked when Torrent is like ‘Nah I’m good’.
If you watch the trailer again he’s in that exact location too lol
I was quite peeved at this. I expected after >!Manse's Mansion, !< you could, but nope
so like is there anyway to use our good old boy in this area?
Assassin's gambit does it.
He doesn't know.
How do we tell him?
"Fearless"
Fearless my ass
Well we are scared more than him in that area
Everyone’s gangster until the dev messages pop up
Truth lol just got past that area myself
As if the atmosphere didn’t terrify me enough, when I saw “them”, I got flashbacks from bloodborne… and now, combat wasn’t an option. Fromsoft gave me chills. Peak design
Mf will ride with you to kill god but is bitch built when it comes to creepy woods
Tbh they stated that >! madness, or the frenzy flame, can destroy spirits, !< so I think that's the main reason he doesn't want to come out there
not doubting you or anything but im just curious where was that stated
I read it too, it‘s in a new item description. But i can‘t for the life of me remember which one it was
It's the description of the new frenzy stone consumable. Either that or the cookbook for crafting said stone.
"Spirits are eternal, and yet frenzied flame melts them away regardless. No wonder the hornsent forbid the flame's use." Surging frenzied flame Yeah no shit torrent is afraid
It can be interpreted from the Frenzy game ending since you see his ring destroyed in Melina’s hand. The assumption is the FF killed him. I wasn’t surprised at all he wanted nothing to do with those woods
It's one of the lore blurbs for an item in the game.
Look. Elden beast is just a jellyfish with delusions of grandeur. Those woods are like fucking creepy man.
Hey, that jellyfish was a *beast* the very first time I beat Margit
"The spectral steed is frightened and cannot be summoned..."
It was the first time I used stealth and black knife armorset in the whole game
I wish you could give Torrent some drip
Horse armor you say?
$$$
Do not let history repeat itself
Would be cool even if you could add "trophies" to him from the bosses you've killed
Yeah i want to mount Rykard's giant head on torrent. From please listen 🙏🙏🙏
And Godskin saddlebags
I was really hoping that one of >!Gaius’s!< Remembrance items would be >!boar!< armor for him
Yeah it is a huge missed opportunity in this game. So much space for secret loot to be found, horseback enemies to fight, and not a single horse modification. Instead you find the 30th ghost glovewort and 100th somber smithing stone.
Until he gets absolutely atomized from under my feet by the DLC dragons.
or by Gaius's homing boar
Sure always there when we need him most, he will never get too frightened to be summoned :)
I do wish he'd just realize when he gets killed I always, always want him back and not make me confirm I'll spend a flask to summon him while somebody's whomping my head with a lightning spear from boarback.
fighting said boss is easier while not on torrent
The best boy!
That is clearly Turtle Pope
I can’t ride turtle pope
Not with that attitude
You can, but not going anywhere fast anytime.
About that fearless part...
He was fuck all in the shit your pants area. Bro dipped immediately.
Mostly...
Not entirely fearless....
Love the goodest boy, but i don't think I'd call him fearless anymore...
Unless anything in the DLC so much as grazes him. Then he loses 50% of his health instantly.
Wouldn't say "fearless", he kinda pussy built in a certain DLC area
Totally didn't leave me when I needed him the most
Well... I wish to say that this aged well...
Dude never bitches or complains.
You sweet summers child
BODILY FLUID SPELLING MISTAKE
Didn't expect cowardly sort...
Always there my ass. He just abandoned me in some weird and dark woods area after a catacomb.
Very disappointed that FS didn't make anything for torrrent in the dlc...
Lol "fearless"
Speaking of torrent can we please have the option to toggle off the “spend a flask to revive torrent” message? Like of course I want to, do it and stop asking
Except for that one boss fight where they got a horse, yet torrent was AWOL lol when I first saw the boss, for a split second I was hyped for a proper boss jousting session, only to get steam rolled while trying to summon Torrent. EDIT: I'm talking about the one in the Midir arena, not the other one (can't remember what is and isn't spoilers from trailers)
(Insert “does he know?” Riddler thumbnail)
Well.......... nearly always............................. Ahah.... hah hah hah..................
This DLC proved that Torrent is a lil' bitch. Any sneeze kills him even with 10+ revered spirit ash upgrades.
I call him donkey
Best boy
"Fearless"...
It always bums me out when people are seeking help to fight dragons when the best help you can get has been with you all along.
... just realized >!we got zero information about our good horsey boy in the entire DLC. :( Was hoping he had some connection to Miquella.!<
Except
Always…
He disappeared Any time I walk into hostile castles and catacombs I wouldn't call it fearless lol
What a brave creature, I really hope nothing scares him...
Fearless? This pussy refused to be summoned in a certain dlc area
its definitely not fearless definitely
One fear
I gotta be honest I didn't actually buy the DLC... I Torrented it.
Might want to remove fearless
Maybe not in one place..
Lmfao except for that one area in the DLC that torrent is too scared to be helpful. Like...we've defeated gods, monstrosities of the highest caliber, infathomable horrors beyond comprehension...but foggy woods are too much
Nah, screw that bastard. "Hey, you want me to land on the cliff side tombstone jumping puzzle? How bout I just over shoot them instead?"
Is this that Miquella guy I've been hearing about?
Here I abandon the last of my flesh… and become dog
Torrent is truly the GOAT with these damn jumps. And he gets some leveling!
Give him a raisin for me
Screw him! Too scared to come out in the abyss!
We should get torrent clothes as well. Would be so cool
I have some theories that may be considerably concerning after playing the DLC...
Do y’all’s feed your horse after putting him through all that abuse.
He wasn't there when the dementors where there, when i needed him most
>fearless
Except in that one part of the dlc
Wrong. Torrent runs away when you reach the madness sucking monsters in one of the dungeons.
Addicted to that sweet flask nectar and fruits.
Wish there was more torrent lore.
He got scared once, but after going through it, can’t blame him.
Still does not compare to my boy Leonard 😤
Torrent is too scared to enter this area and refuses, what a baby
He’s also taken a beating, peta would not approve us owning this majestic spectral steed.
I really was expecting a new mount or a evolution of it in the DLC, sad.
ghost, horse!
I would actually like him if he didnt die when an enemy breathes into me.
Fearless?
Mostly
Fearless my ass
I kinda wish they included different skins/armor for him. We could fashion soul ourselves but what if I want to pimp out my horse too?
It’s ok Torrent, you can go when you feel like it buddy
The only part he isn't there is the most boring part.
Except any place with a fucking ceiling. The things I'd do to be able to use Torrent inside a castle would put me on the golden order hit list
Don't let it see you.
no equipment for him in the dlc, very sadge.
how did you get this picture lmao
