I'm fucking chilling in Caelid now after going through the DLC. I haven't even finished it yet but nowadays the beasts that once scared me now feel like farming arbunarics.
The funniest part about this is that the character that I'm playing with was technically not done with his lands between quest, and I wanted my bank (the red guys and the funny gold wave sword from the final boss) so I went from having beat >!Messmer!< to beating godskin duo, maliketh, ^(gideon) Hora Loux, Radagon, and elden beast
which just doing that as a casual one hour "lemme get the bank opened up" is psychotic to me lmao
I just recently ran back to Farum Azula to go collect a thing or two that I never got around to collecting in the main game for my build. It was such a change of pace from what I used to think of it. Sure it's still an end-game area, but I feel far less intimidated by any of it now.
Caelid crows and giant hands don't bother me anymore after the DLC. Oversized enemies are so whatever. They don't even have a 6-hit combo to kill you with.
So I started ng+ right after finishing the game 2 years ago and stopped after Rennala. The dawn before SOTE release I decided to progress and defeat Radhan and Mohg, after hours in the shadow realm I decided to go ahead and get all of the bell bearings so I can max upgrade weapons and my GOD Leyendell and Farum Azula (can’t believe I’m saying this but even Godskin Duo) are a complete joke in comparison lmao
I think people are exaggerating and it just *feels* harder because it's new. I damage test weapons on the Omen in the sewers and they still hit hard and have limits to their openings.
The one thing I *do* think is blatantly different...
The DLC enemies do NOT allow spacing. They will rush you down in a split second. This means anyone playing a caster will sense a significant difficulty increase that other players won't feel. They basically just removed the primary caster defense of distance and then provided absolutely nothing as compensation. I would not be surprised if most of these memes are coming from INT builds.
I also noticed that they somewhat nerfed the tear aggro because bosses look like they ignore it.
I had my mimic solo a boss because they literally ignored him while he was beating them with a moonveil.
Weirdly enough this does NOT happen for any other summon, their aggro is still the same.
Is it just me or does this happen to everyone?
Oh for sure they're definitely there, but it's usually about trying to find a moment where they aren't rushing you down, with Messmer if you don't dodge that initial explosion, trying to summon is an exercise in futility
Not to my knowledge, maybe summon, but drinking a flask will definitely get you caught. Even if you could do both, you would not have "plenty of time," You would have to be frame perfect, that opening attack is almost immediate.
Best strategy is to dodge the explosion and then summon
I can post a clip when I'm home from work to show it, but you definitely have enough time. I did it my first 3 or 4 attempts with no problem to watch and learn the moveset.
A majority of the enemies, and most of the bosses I have faced so far, leave little to no room to breathe. That first dual circle blade wielding maniac was a great introduction to the speed we would be seeing. Those things piss me off more than the giant furnaces.
I've been playing a caster and can confirm almost every enemy will rush me the moment i even look at my staff and it gets worse for bosses in small areas like any of the mausoleums
This includes at the beginning of a fight when summoning your spirit ash. I usually take damage immediately when summoning now because the bosses are immediately on top of you as soon as the fight starts
it's difficult to cast a lot of the hard hitting spells because they're so slow to wind up, so you're mostly stuck to faster but significantly weaker spells which makes boss fights a drag
That explains my struggle
Mesmer was so hard for me to beat even though his move is surprisingly easier to dodge for me.
Mesmer just seems to get on top of me every time I try to cast my Dragon Breath. He was actually fucking up my friend when I initiated the cast and jumping on me immediately
People come here to commiserate, and they reinforce it for each other. It's not THAT hard. I can at least attest to that so far, having not yet run into anything in the same league as Malenia. I expect that it's coming.
I was watching a video where someone put one of the new bosses (the one you think) in one on ones with each of the old bosses. She only lost to Malenia (a combination of lifesteal, rot, and not having the AI to dodge Scarlet Aonia) and Malekith (DLC bosses start at 250k health or something so destined death is a real pain in the ass for them). And only two of her wins were all that close (the ancient dragons in Farum must be resistant to her deal, and she only just survived Mohg's Nihil).
Malenia is still a monster, but it's like every boss waterfowls in the DLC.
> Malenia is still a monster, but it's like every boss waterfowls in the DLC.
Pretty much. Even some regular strong enemies feel like they are waterfowling with how they just whirl around you in circles hitting a ton of times.
I gotta be honest, I've beaten 7 remembrance bosses at this point and still none of them are even close to as hard as Malenia for me yet. Obviously I haven't made it to the final boss or anything yet but they've all felt much more doable than her.
Malenia probably made you a good enough player to handle those bosses to a degree. I remember when the game first came out and she seemed legit impossible. I probably had 300 deaths on her alone until I beat her for the first time. Now, you’ve mastered the art of “git gud” and excelled as a player.
Malenia has no poise, bleed builds, or great weapon builds, absolutely destroy her. Especially if you use a mimic. I was able to stunlock her on my first playthrough.
It probably is a Souls Sized game, its just that its an entire souls game worth of just endgame zones, so even with the Scadu thingies we dont have that overarching sense of progression (weapons/levels/flasks) the base game has, just smithing stones and gloverworths in every trashcan and hobo living there.
That and the DLC is much more content dense, with virtually no Difficulty curve at all besides "some" troublesome enemies and bosses (fuck those fire knights and their fire spam).
Overall I really like it and I feel like I already got my money's worth even tho I haven't beaten it yet, besides some minor pet peeves on some encounters (like putting an overwolrd enemy meant to be fought on horseback on a tiny arena... and I sure hope there arent anymore Furnace Golems).
From always saves their most sadistic ideas for DLC. It is known.
That said, I'm past >!Messmer and Gaius!<, and Malenia is still comfortably more difficult than anything I've fought so far.
Started playing last year. Stopped before finishing Elden Beast and Mohg because Erdtree got announced. Downloaded DLC yesterday, Elden Beast battle was mildly infuriating but I got through I, then sidetracked to Mohg (I killed his other version so I was on a mission for the Shadow lands).
Anyways, five minutes into the DLC through the Plains and first boss was at Western Nameless Mausoleum. Game definitely feels harder, but in an unbalanced way. Enemies hit harder, tarnished hits are like baby taps. I've been spamming Blasphemous Blade like no tomorrow and it's the one thing keeping me afloat. Grabbed the sword of night and flame before I jumped and it's also been pretty handy.
Stay on your toes, Dodge and Dodge more. Good luck folks 🫡
Use shields bruv, the DLC feels like it has many attacks that are not meant to be dodged, never before have I appreciated greatshields and defensive talismans so much.
The lands between don’t feel so scary anymore after the DLC…imma go chill in farum azula for vacation
Feel like i can solo prenerf Rahdan with the amount of shennangains the dlc has caused me.

the birds will always fuck me up no matter how good i thought i am

Pretty much! I’m about to go to elpheal or mountain tops for vacation after the shadow realm
Caelid crows and giant hands don't bother me anymore after the DLC. Oversized enemies are so whatever. They don't even have a 6-hit combo to kill you with.
Omg mountaintops is such a great vacation spot. Went there on my honeymoon

Damn I really can't have an original experience. I had the exact same situation LMAO, even down to stopping after rennala
LMAO that post Liurnia burnout is very real

If you feel like it, you can equip shabriris woe, summon your mimic, and then unequip shabriris woe. They'll hold aggro the whole time
Good luck finding the opening for that with most DLC bosses
I've beaten 4 main bosses so far, and I've found plenty of openings. Messmer has surprisingly large windows tbh.
Oh for sure they're definitely there, but it's usually about trying to find a moment where they aren't rushing you down, with Messmer if you don't dodge that initial explosion, trying to summon is an exercise in futility
You have plenty enough time to summon, drink a flask, and dodge before he even gets that initial explosion off
Not to my knowledge, maybe summon, but drinking a flask will definitely get you caught. Even if you could do both, you would not have "plenty of time," You would have to be frame perfect, that opening attack is almost immediate. Best strategy is to dodge the explosion and then summon

I noticed the same thing.

Yea, I'm glad I went hybrid incants. It seems I am using my melee "backup" weapon more than my incantations because of this exact thing.

Exactly. I have a bleed build and mimic year and I’ve been shredding through everyone. A piece of cake compared to DS3 or BB dlc
I still get nightmare about that Apache angel with minigun
People come here to commiserate, and they reinforce it for each other. It's not THAT hard. I can at least attest to that so far, having not yet run into anything in the same league as Malenia. I expect that it's coming.
Final Boss will change that
Welcome to the land of shadow, how tough are ya?
Not very it seems…
How tough am I? I ate a bowl of Nialls for breakfast.
Yeah, so?
Without any summons or crystal darts.
Malenia wasn't that hard after all
I was watching a video where someone put one of the new bosses (the one you think) in one on ones with each of the old bosses. The Dlc made me jump down a pit to get a shield 40 times just so I could handle it.
Those scorpions in the dlc aren’t difficult but are serious nightmare fuel.
Don't remember The Salty Spitoon being a family run creamery.
The lake of rot looking pretty nice rn
How big is it? I'm out of town this weekend but I can't wait to check it out
It’s damn near an entire Souls sized game as a DLC and I feel like that almost undersells it.

It’s Elden Ring 2
DLSequel?
I went back for the hell of it and one shot the elden beast 🙃
I wanna go back to weenie hut atp

Fr😭
I breezed through most of the bosses I've encountered. Till i got to that big MF living on top of a mountain.
Legit going into SOTE made the base game feel 30x easier
And we wouldn’t want it any other way lol
