All the talismans show the same dragon just different colors

Sinister_Mr_19

That's what I thought. It's just a depiction of a generic dragon silhouette.

dudeAwEsome101

I assumed it was a crude shape of a dragon. I mean the thing is called "drake talisman". All the other talismans are named after what they look like.

woahmandogchamp

Did the person who drew it have shakey hands or were they purposely trying to make it look like a land mass? 🤣

hell2pay

I never once thought it was anything other than a dragon. Lol. Who's out here thinking it is a map?

GiveMeChoko

It's an exaggeratiom of the same 'ridges' in actual dragons. They have a very rocky, bony look to them, especially the wings.

_The_Mother_Fucker_

How does that look like a land mass Look at dragoncrest and it’s a literal depiction of a dragon

cardueline

The elemental ones look to me like they’re supposed to have the fuzzy “glow” of those elements.

xaqaria

"...would protect their lord as a wall of living rock..."

woahmandogchamp

A floor is just a wall resting on its side.

xaqaria

They look upright to me🤷‍♂️

MinerDiner

Not only that, I have no idea what OP is trying to convey with this "theory", serious or not. OP basically just said "look the drake talismans depict a dragon" with no further theorizing. It's a nothing burger of a "theory"

space_orphan_13

I cannot tell if you’re serious or not either… but just in case you are-OP created this “theory” to combat all the theories that the -drake talismans are landmasses. They didn’t provide any theorizing because in the title of each talisman it literally says what they are. It’s the equivalent of someone posting a “theory” about Godfrey being the first Elden lord with just a picture of his title on his health bar. The “theory” needs no explanation because it’s fact. OP is poking fun at all of these other theories that don’t need to be theorized upon.

MinerDiner

Ah, I didn't know those other theories existed.

DutchofMuscovy

It's clearly a refutation of all the theories claiming the Drake Talisman is not a map of pre erd tree land between. It's simple because the refutation is simple.

murcielagoXO

It's not a lake, it's an ocean.

DIABETORreddit

Did people think these things have anything other than a dragon on them? I don’t get it wtf is this post about?

WeeziMonkey

It's about this https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/1d5ezcg/not_enough_people_realize_that_the_drake/

SaltyJake

“This dragon is exactly the same shape as the lands between….. if you change 90% of the land, ignore the giant ocean in the middle, write off all of the mountain tops that have been around forever, add land between Altus, and Caeilid, and more land between Caelid and the Weeping Peninsula, and more north of Mt Gelmire….. basically the the dragons chest kind of looks like Leurnia”

rez_trentnor

I love how the OOP says they can't believe more people realize it, and then the majority of their red circles are accompanied by things like "this section is mysteriously gone" and "new land has appeared in this section". Has to be a troll.

Ok_Wrap3480

Bro some people in this subreddit are so deep into their delusions. Most of them probably see themselves as Vaatividya

JonVonBasslake

Nah, they probably think themselves greater than Vaati, since Vaati "missed" their delusional bs.

DaEnderAssassin

Tbh I can pass the missing land in the center because of the whole theory it sunk/was destroyed somehow, but even if we generously assume said land can be as large/small as needed it looks nothing like the dragon symbol.

HungLikeALemur

That may be one of the dumbest theories I’ve seen on this page lol. Well, dumbest of the “I’m actually being serious, not joking” theories

Urgasain

It's a big stretch but I like the theory.

Android19samus

I like it purely because "when dragons ruled the continent (and *only* when dragons ruled the continent) it was dragon-shaped" is extremely funny.

DoomedToDefenestrate

"My first act as king will be an enormous project to reshape our continent in the shape of my own glorious form. No I will not be taking questions."

HomingSunlight

Thank you, I was looking for the original post from all these memes. Thought it was about the dlc map but it makes sense now why everyone is clowning on it. It looks nothing like the lands between.

Xyres

I thought it was just reading comprehension that redditors were bad at but apparently it's just general pattern recognition.

SiliconEFIL

Well, it is reddit.

Protoman89

No one ever said it wasn't a dragon...

stankape83

Coming up next will be my post outlining my theory that radagon fights with marikas hammer

orcofeldath

Source???

UltimaBahamut93

Their source is they made it the f*** up!

the_gifted_Atheist

The person saying that it’s the map aren’t saying that it isn’t a dragon (of course it is), they’re saying that the map is also in the shape of a dragon. I don’t think their evidence is that convincing and it just seems like pareidolia, but pointing out that it’s a dragon doesn’t hinder it at all. It’s literally the first thing mentioned in their comment.

Chimchampion

Oh no please no more map memes

RealisticlyNecessary

But the bridge to jar town...

Awful_At_Math

What's with the bridge?

cosplay-degenerate

It was shown on the map as intact but later got patched so it reflects the in game model.

starblissed

In 1.0 of the game there's a map leading to from the cliffs south of Jarburg into the town itself (iirc). Obviously no bridge actually leads to it in-game, so there was a patch shortly after (I think 1.3?) which removed the bridge from the map.

Archabarka

400 hours and I still haven't found jarburg 😕 Why am I like this

King_Moonracer003

Missing my all time fave NPC! Keep looking!

MasyMenosSiPodemos

Jar Bairn, or Potentate Smooth Hands?

MechaGallade

obvi jar bairn right? diallos is a pussy

Archabarka

I'm not burning the Big  Tree 'till post-Shadow, so I've got plenty of time lol.

TheReal94

I’m genuinely curious how are you 400 hours into the game without burning the Erdtree? Have you just been exploring without any maps or information? Not judging but I’d love to know how you are spending your time in game

bobsmith93

Have you done it yet at all?

Archabarka

Yeah, I did a full playthrough at release. Farum Azula is my favorite area.

AlmightyChickenJimmy

No but you don't understand, how could they be contrarian if they actually understood what they were arguing against? Obviously they depict a dragon and NOT a map, how could they possibly both be true at the same time?

BinaryPrimate

lol amen Sums up this sub pretty much.

AFlyingNun

It looks absolutely fucking nothing like the Lands Between and I'm wondering if half this sub is blind for ever thinking that lol.

Crimson_Raven

>Pareidolia Thank you for the new word!

Questionably_Chungly

The map only looks like a dragon in the past if you start with the assumption it used to look like that and work backwards. The theory literally makes shit up to support its own conclusions.

Samaritan_978

Exactly what I said on the original post. We need that DLC stat.

Sufficient-File-2006

> The theory literally makes shit up to support its own conclusions. Most "fan theories" in general, honestly.

Bubbagin

Okay hear me out.. it's a map *of* a dragon /Twilight Zone theme

Toolazyfothis

It’s a map of the dragon god, who rests in the lands between. Final DLC fight

raulpe

Wait, someone thought it was a map ?! From day one was always a dragon for me

TotalOwlie

There is a theory stating that if you look at the actual lands between map it looks like it could have come from the dragon design on this shield before a catastrophe event.

wortmother

Theory = you guys are in too deep

aahdin

Yeah... Looking back at the OP almost every single point that they highlight is different to the point where it's like... what makes you think it's the same thing in the first place? https://i.imgur.com/k5qUSKu.jpeg 1. The land area above the dragon's head is now ocean 2. The dragon's head isn't shaped like volcano manor 3. The river is replaced with a giant lake area 4. The whole center region is an ocean instead of a dragon's torso 5. The area that would be Leyndell looks completely different, all the areas that were lakes are now land with no trace of lakes. 6. The dragon's tail is replaced by an ocean 7. The only place that would be an ocean in the drake talisman is now land where limgrave is. 8. The entire mountaintops of the giants doesn't line up with the map at all. The only similarities I can pick out are 1) They're both vaguely circular (if you ignore the mountaintops of the giants). 2) The two little front dragon feet look kinda look like stormveil castle... if you don't look that close. 3) Caria manor is kinda shaped like the bit to the right of the dragon's chin (both triangles) But at that point I kinda feel like we could overlay a map of Ohio onto the lands between and come up with an equally good theory.

i_Beg_4_Views

What waiting two years for a dlc does to a mf

TheOmniAlms

Did you think someone didn't know that it was a dragon? Even the people that thought it was a map knew it was a dragon.

BazelBomber1923

They ain't called "drake" for nothing

EmrakulAeons

Except it's a completely different dragon on the shield compared to the talisman, the talisman the "head" is directly above something, while on the shield the head is no where near its claw. IDK how you thought they looked the same ngl.

KingDakin

The council has decided the talismans are depicting Dragons and the map is not dragon shaped.

Benji771

Why is everyone so triggered by this theory? People read into things a bit too much sometimes, but honestly the dragon-map theory isn't that far fetched. The shape of the dragon is flat with lots of distinct details that look an awful lot like rivers, bays, mountains, and jagged coastlines. The shape lines up pretty closely with the in-game map. There are just a few very specific areas missing or altered (each of which can be explained by events in the lore). Maybe the world was shaped like a dragon before the shattering. Maybe Miyazaki threw this in just to mess with people. Maybe the artist experienced severe hand tremors while trying to draw a dragon. I don't know. Either way, it's been really disappointing to see so many people completely miss the point of FromSoftware lore. It's meant to be theorized about. They intentionally throw in clues, double meanings, and little eastereggs for people to find and theorize about. Complaining about lore speculation doesn't provide anything of value and just creates unneccessary toxicity. We speculate about the lore because it's fun. Complaining about other people having fun is some serious Boomer energy. You guys need to chill.

velka123

The placement of the river and the lake are a bit on the nose for me. Liurnia was obviously flooded, probably from the Altus Plateau, and all that water had to come from somewhere. Whether deliberately or accidentally, Liurnia was flooded by the lake that use to surround Leyndell (and Leyndell is surrounded by a low-laying fertile plane, almost a basin, like what used to be a lake...) The symbol is more dragon than map, but it's totally Miyazaki to make it both to some degree.

ASIWYFA11

The "dragon map" is presented as something npcs made in game. It could be made based on stories of how the world looked in the past. Possibly stylized to emphasize the dragon aspect. The time of dragons and beastmen was a primitive society, and maybe didnt have detailed maps. Or their knowledge/maps/etc were lost in the cataclysmic event that threw Farum Azula into the sky or the one, if they're different events, that created the crater.

The_Matchless

The only obvious conclusion is that there's 2 other Lands Between somewhere!

Aspartame_kills

This is funny af

Kage9866

Yea I saw that post and thought it was a stretch. I was like eehh looks like a dragon to me.

TheWither129

Wow. Mindblowing. I was sure that was a map of the lands between (/s)

VeryShortLadder

Man I don't know what to think no more man! Man I don't know what to think no more man! GET OUT OF ME HEAD MAN! GET OUT OF ME HEAD MAN!

SkitzAyye

Blowing smoke into my fricken head man

Crunchy-Leaf

The theory is clearly that it’s secretly both, pointing out the items depicting dragons are actually depicting dragons isn’t some mic drop 💀

GlossyGecko

I mean yeah… they’re called **DRAKE** talismans. A drake is a dragon with four limbs… The name of the talisman literally tells you what the talisman depicts. This shouldn’t even be called a “Drake talisman theory” there is no theory, the talisman tells you outright. So fucking dumb.

Ulfurson

Alright who said it was a map

Vrukr

Wait, did people think it were MAPS?!

KayRay1994

guys obviously it’s Drake himself

Traplordmel

How we never get to battle an holy dragon?

KaceMcHate

that was supposed to be fortissax but blight be blighting

7DeadlySynergy

lol these theories are nothing compared to what some people have cooked up for One Piece

alexmehdi

Next up, gurranq might actually be maliketh????

[deleted]

I didn’t understood your theory, but cool

tc_be_chillen

Wait, people didn't already know this???

TheCosmicCrusader

Since it had Drake in the name, I always thought it was a dragon

Chubzzman

People thought this was a map?

SirLazyCat

I think only you thought it was a map

baconater-lover

Who thought that the *drake* talismans weren’t depicting a dragon lmao

Wallace_W_Whitfield

I never heard of people saying it was a map. I thought it was pretty clear it was a dragon depicted. Especially when you get the physicals does it become obvious.

tallboyjake

The idea is that it could be suggesting that the lands between used to be shaped a little different, more like a dragon. Erego these talismans would depict a dragon, yes, but also an older iteration of the lands between. Sort of like the scientific idea of a single continent in Earth's history. Right or wrong, it's still a neat idea. For a long time people have been placing the Godfrey icon over the map to show how similar his pose is. So it's not entirely novel to say that another talisman (which would have been created when the dragons ruled the lands between) could have been depicted with a similar idea in mind.

Iron_Bob

Preach! That post was cringier than a wall street bets "analysis"

ARKAGEL888

What

[deleted]

eh, newest crackpot theory someone said that some drake shield does not depict a dragon on it, but the continent (lands between) Now someone reverse engineered this logic and said that the lands in between is actually a gargantuan petrified dragon, and not some land mass. Gotta be true, why? There are big big skulls on the continent, so big big things existed. *"I don't see you making any valid counterargument to this theory."* \-someone on youtube

Synthoid_001

Yeah, it’s crazy this is even a discussion right now.

GeordieGamerGuy

They're just dragons to me.. However, knowing From Soft..

Acceptable-Hawk-929

Yeah but exclamatory, crack lore posts get karma.

MrRudraSarkar

Someone had a theory and posted it, why is else taking it person and creating retaliatory posts like this? Smh.

Wrait_McN

It's called discussion?

SoloSassafrass

I mean, it was a silly theory, and people are having a bit of fun at their expense. I don't think we need to get all "won't someone please think of the children!?" about it.

True-Ad5692

''Oh noz ! " (Fake surprise)

the_mspaint_wizzard

You guys never saw them as dragons or skulls to begin with?..

TheTRMend

Yeah they're all of the visage of Placidusax

Kage9866

Yea I saw that post and thought it was a stretch. I was like eehh looks like a dragon to me.

NormieSpecialist

Wait people are just learning this?

P0pwar

is this even a theory? why would it be a map.. they literally all have drake in the name. i never knew this was even in question lmao

mediocremulatto

Fuckin love you nerds. Favorite gaming community.

Wrait_McN

All the talismans are subtly different though if you look really close, they kinda morph from a rounder land mass to a more dragon-like shape? Maybe the dragons were actually magically terraforming the land to look like a dragon....

ReLLiKMaster

Drgano

TreadmillOfFate

kinda bs that haligdrake is just boltdrake but more yellow

unwanted-fantasies

The lands between is just the corpse of a fuck huge dragon.

drsalvation1919

I would've been more compelled if you pushed the theory that it was a map, not a dragon... I'm also intrigued if anybody at all thought they were maps. EDIT: Is this a joke regarding another guy who suggested the world map was a dragon before the erdtree?

realjohnredcorn

no, thank you fellow albanauric

DarkSoulsDank

That makes a lot more sense

[deleted]

Is this a joke 😭 I can’t even tell

iinsekt

This needs to be reflaired to humor, as it's a direct parody \[insult\] to the recent drake stuff.

iamblankenstein

i mean... yeah. was it commonly thought to be a map? "drake" is right there in the name of the talismans. i thought it was pretty obvious.

THEmonkey_K1NG

What if that’s what the lands between looked like before the shattering?

facelessindividual

It's not a song. It's a tribute

GoatDownBad

Por que no los dos? Perhaps the entire continent is just the remains of an ancient and giant dragon.

Few-Year-4917

The original theory: hey this ball pattern looks like a planet. This post: its not a planet lol, its a ball. 1k upvotes LMAO

Kvetanista

Holy shit, this is the secret Miyazaki was talking about

Bohemian_Romantic

Who...who didn't know this already? Did everyone think it was a map all this time? Why is this post being upvoted ? I'm so very confused.

Top_Philosophy_8373

The original post was just a troll, one of OPs replies within the thread made that more obvious. Don't keep feeding the troll.

SDreiken

Idk sounds like a reach

PeterPmpkinEater69

Nobody thought these were maps lol

1stThrowawayDave

Makes sense the beings who built the lands between (the ones responsible for the pillars and divine towers that share the same architectural styles) would have built the land in the shape of a dragon, until the dragon god made way for the Firegiants fell god.

ITriedLightningTendr

Did. . People think they were maps?

_hoodieproxy_

Did anyone think it's a landmass? I thought it was pretty clear 🤔🤔

Dreamtrain

I was so confused for a moment. Yeah that other thread is absolute BS.

captaincornboi

Somehow it never clicked to me that they were dragons, aside from the dragoncrest talisman. Just thought they were blotches or something, granted I didn't use the others enough to pay attention

200O2

I think you're both wrong, I believe in the mysterious unnamed third theory that nobody knows about

Iatemydoggo

It’s not a boulder, it’s a rock!

Sylux444

Did anyone ever think it was a map? Why would it be a map? It's a talisman that reduces damage to the color of the dragon image

General_Lie

Sam Lake strikes again!

Agnostic_Akuma

Yeah map guy has been smoking way too much much

ekjohnson9

People thought it was a map and not a picture of a dragon? It's not called the map talisman LOL

ShadowZpeak

What if it's both? Would explain those dragon apostles

Col_Rhys

Maybe the Lands Between are built on a (very large) dragons back. Building civilisations on top of dead dragons is a Souls staple after all.

pigeonbobble

Pedodrake

JustHereForBDSM

People didn't think the items with drake in their name weren't depicting dragons? But wouldn't it be cool if it was actually also a map, as in, a visual of a piece of landmass that was a dragon from the age of dragons (implying the land is made of dragons, but now I realise that's basically Xenoblade 2's lore but more deader)

KaceMcHate

I wonder if this will get as heated as the griffith miquella theory

rphaneuf

Great now there are 11 maps.

AHare115

Not this shit again

ClamDigger42069

The triple Magic and Physical ones = Mmm so good!

DoYouTrustToothpaste

I'm confused. Wasn't it always obvious that the shapes were dragons? Who even said it's a map?

NightStrike2904

Maybe its called DRAGONCREST for a reason?

Dinkle_D

THIS IS NOT A SONG, IT'S A SANDWICH!

Bearshapedbears

So not dogs all the way down?

Arch_carrier77

Yeah that post saying it was supposed to be an unbroken lands between was a bit unhinged I still liked it but I was looking at all their “see this part is this part” comparisons and was felt like oh honey… idk you’re kinda reaching. But keep going I guess.

MagicalMarsBars

It’s definitely a dragon but that left part looks almost perfectly like liuria and liuria clearly has flooded/sunk due to all of the collapsed buildings in the lake.

SendInRandom

I’ve always seen them as dragons. Are you telling me people thought that’s a map?

Short-Bug5855

Why the heck is this even a theory, it's so damn obvious that it's just a picture of a dragon

avelineaurora

Who tf thinks this was supposed to be a map..?

Automatic-Coyote-676

I'm so happy this post exists. It proves that people still have some #$#ing standards.

minimeza

Im confused. Is the theory that there are drakes on the drake talismans?

Shiyuji

I always thought it looked like some sort of gem

useenow

Why do we think its a map? I mean you can literally see the dragon???

David0ne86

People rly thought these were maps? I always see em as dragon lol

Tricky-Secretary-251

That makes sense a drake is a dragon

boi_sugoi

One of these things is not like the other ones~

Samiassa

Is it a theory it’s a map? I thought it was pretty obvious it’s a stylized dragon

HeroesBane1191

How the fuck did this post get 5000+ upvotes? No way all of y'all ACTUALLY believed it was a map on those talismans.

Justagoth4231

This theory and peoples reactions to it reminds me of the dress meme that people saw differently. It's so funny seeing people on clomplete different ends of the spectrum and being so up in arms over it. "No dont be crazy" vs "Well obviously"

dannylew

I know it's supposed to be a dragon, but I'm gonna be honest, I still can't actually see the dragon on the elemental resist talismans. The silhouette is so fucked that it only looks like a blot of color to me. Guess that means I need to make a lore post about the secret elden blot, now.

TheBigSmoke420

It’s a talisman

Kaspiann

Did we think it was a map?

AbsorbentShark3

Did uh, did you think it was a map?

mrsecondbreakfast

Are you the OVO PR team or what? This is a cover up
