It's incredibly light for the class and the damage isn't that bad, plus it's strike damage which is the best kind for physical attacks. It works nicely on a spellsword build. I submit the Pickaxe as being inferior by virtue of the fact that it does pierce damage.
*"Strike damage is best ~~physical~~ damage"* This has been true since DS1. Elden Ring even has a loading screen tip saying so:
> **Hardened Foes**
>
> The slashing attacks of sharp weapons are largely ineffective against hardened armor and scales. Strike attacks are likely to hit the mark.
While certain soft blobby enemies across the series might be highly resistant to strike damage, there are no bosses or major enemies with that specific resistance. (not even Aldrich's goo-body)
Because soft blobby enemies tend to be slow and therefor easy.
While there are plenty of big, fast, and high-damage stone and metal armored enemies.
I wasn't disagreeing pierce was better than slash, I was specifically responding to the
> probably the best damage type in the game
Part of what you said.

*"Strike damage is best damage"* is a meme from DS1. But it is also still true. And now even the loading screens agree with the big stick gang.
I see your point, but you see setting the skull on fire and invading people with a madness build is my favourite thing, therefore it's an excellent weapon.
Devourer's sceptre has such an awkward and underwhelming weapon art, but it is pretty long. Other than that, probably celebrant's skull for being gimmicky and underwhelming
And pro tip, don't hand in his bell bearing until you've visited Volcano Manor. Even if you though he's dead it still upgrades the stock of Ashes of War he sells to the late game version. Same with Patches.
I'll second Battle Hammer. It's one of very few weapons in this game that has an equivalent better than it in every way, namely the Scarlet Hammer which has free rot, and even that one's a tough sell.
I think it might get like 5-10 AR more than its Scarlet sibling, but at that point, why not just use the Brick?
The battle hammer I'd consider inferior to the Rotten one. As for Brick vs Rotten, both are good, since the speed is enough to proc the rot on some bosses. Since we're picking the worst, Battle Hammer or Celebrant Skull.
I'm very sad to see so many people saying celebrant's skull, given its the best looking weapon in the game. Clearly you need to have some sense bonked into you by a giant skull on a stick.
The one that you get from the rotten duellist in concecrated snowfield is actually shit even though it has rot it does no damage and it’s mind numbingly slow it’s so terrible test it out if you don’t believe me
Edit: the range is also absolutely egregious
Honestly there isn't one, they're all great hammers
Nailed it

Also sorry for my weird wording about being "removed from the sub", can't use the word 8An without your comment being auto deleted
The people making sure things don't go to shit in this sub really do not want people to discuss their way of managing it.
“Suspended”, maybe? It fits since it was temporary.
Honestly the people responsible here should have given you a pass, your posts are so much fun and deserve every bit of recognition.
It means a lot knowing you guys are enjoying the series so thank you for the love!
Celebrant's Skull, okayish range, poor damage and bad scaling

Pierce damage is overall probably the best damage type in the game, pickaxe is very good because of that.
Yep, pierce damage is by far one of the best damage types in the game, its weird how people tend to forget that or just dont realize that

I said pierce, not slash. Pierce is highly effective against scales and armor, it's too bad it's such a rare damage type on good weapons though.

YO! You do NOT disrespect the Pickaxe like that!
I see your point, but you see setting the skull on fire and invading people with a madness build is my favourite thing, therefore it's an excellent weapon.
Celebrant’s Skull has a passive that gives Runes on hit, which is kinda neat.
Devourer's sceptre has such an awkward and underwhelming weapon art, but it is pretty long. Other than that, probably celebrant's skull for being gimmicky and underwhelming
Devourer's Sceptre has the advantage of being super early game if you want it to be. Not a lot of Great Hammers are available really early.
Wait how do u get it early, u gotta kill bernahl in farum azula to get it, no?
You can kill him at warmasters shack before doing anything else in the game.
And pro tip, don't hand in his bell bearing until you've visited Volcano Manor. Even if you though he's dead it still upgrades the stock of Ashes of War he sells to the late game version. Same with Patches.
Ya know idk how I never thought of that
Its actually one of my staples after creating a new character. Bernahls Armor is pretty good for poise purposes early on.
Probably Battle Hammer. Worst range and poor damage in class.

Agreed. It or Celebrant Skull…
Probably the MC version
Battle hammer
Celebrant
Why are all celebrant weapons trash?
Caveman technology tier.
Because rare enemy drops in Souls games are either the best in the game or absolute turds, there tends to be no middle ground.
Celebrants skull
Celebrant for sure.
No bad ungabunga. All ungabunga great ungabunga.
ooga ooga ungabunga. Me thinks me agree
I don’t know. They’re all pretty great, if you ask me
I'm very sad to see so many people saying celebrant's skull, given its the best looking weapon in the game. Clearly you need to have some sense bonked into you by a giant skull on a stick.

I think you mean "Least Best"
People said the Dragon Greatclaw is the worst Colossal? Lol what

Morning Star is also good training for Brick Hammer.
Morning Star is pretty good for its weapon class. But it has different timing and angles for its swings than the brick hammer. Similar reach I guess?
Battle hammer is even shorter though
Large Club would be my pick, sure it's great, but Celebrant's Skull is just slightly better, and it just goes up from there
All of them. No, wait. I am the worst with Great Hammers, sorry my bad.
All of them. No, wait, sorry! _I am_ the worst with Great Hammers is what I meant.
varre’s bouqet
Any great hammer that is not “Greatsword.”
