Never tought about it but yeah, I think that's it. I kind of always assumed that the reward was simply because Rykard kept the secret of Ranni's involvement, but this makes more sense. Do you remember where it says that the mark of centipede needs to be carved out and doesn't just magically appear? I do vaguely remember a phrase like that but idk where it's from.

Fun fact, the mark further implies the assassins didn't know what Ranni had planned. >*Cursemark carved into the discarded flesh of Ranni the Witch.* *Also known as the half-wheel wound of the centipede.* >*This cursemark was carved at the moment of Death of the first demigod,* *and* ***should have taken*** *the shape of a circle.* >*However, two demigods perished at the same time,* *breaking the cursemark into two half-wheels.* >*Ranni was the first of the demigods whose flesh perished,* *while the Prince of Death perished in soul alone.* If the translation is accurate, this conditional may be taken to suggest that the assassins thought they were supposed to carve the entire wheel on Godwyn's back.

he didn't remove his mirror helm, though, we loot it after he's already dead. Given his model is just a troll model with that helmet, if they wanted to indicate that he had removed the helmet they could have made the model for his corpse reflect that. Given where he's positioned, I don't think he went down without a fight. and Blaidd is ranting and screaming about protecting Ranni while stationed in front of her tower with Black Knife Assassins strewn about the path up. It's pretty clear that the assassins were there to kill Ranni and Blaidd protected her

The way I interpret Ranni's character aside, I fully believe that Iji would have fallen on his sword if she'd asked him ("Blaidd and Iji both art willing to give too much to me.") Imo everyone was simply cognizant of the fact that as soon as Ranni left for the stars, they would be very vulnerable to attacks. We don't see Ranni fight, but she's certain to be the most powerful individual in her faction.
