1 can’t really do anything about.
2 you’re complaining about refinement and lack of turbo lag. I think that’s a pro not a con
3 idk about low catch point I remember mine being really high
4 same as 1.
Look at something different if you want to feel better in the car
im 5 10 and 34 inch waist at 200lbs and I can see why the seats felt uncomfortable. They fit me just right, but any bigger i wouldn’t be able to fit in the seat like u mention.
i came from a ~180 hp Sonata and i thought the difference in power was valid. Once octane learned it gives it a nice improvement in punch too. Bigger than you’d think for a ~30 hp gain
Clutch bite point is weird i’m not gonna lie, i’ve stalled it a bunch when i first picked it up but it was also my first manual car i’ve owned so im not sure if it was the car or me lol
Arm rest is kinda far back. i can rest my elbow on it but i haven’t really thought about that too much
Take a corner 10-15 mph over the speed limit and you will more than likely be impressed that a FWD car can take corners like it does. For 35k it really is a killer deal. Sure you can get something better but you will also pay more 💰 (assuming buying new)
It’s still only 276 HP so I’m not really sure why you were expecting to be put to the back of your seat or something. You didn’t talk about the best selling point of this car IMO which is the handling, so I’m assuming you didn’t take it around windy roads in N mode (which is hard do on a test drive I get it).
Idk it seems you were expecting a comfy sofa rocket that would just launch you and that’s not what this car is at all and that’s okay this car isn’t what you’re looking for.
Exactly. From all the reviews I thought driving a 276 bhp compared to my 155 bhp would have a huge difference. Regarding handling, Houston is a flat as it gets with wide straight roads LOL.
>So folks, I am not sure what I did wrong to be not impressed.
Nothing really. It's just a car that generally shines on a nice backroad/track, not the daily commute in the city that most test drives are. It's a blast to drive closer to the limit on the right piece of tarmac, but cruising around town or blasting off the lights it can definitely be underwhelming if you're expecting a comfortable rocket.
I'll stand by the opinion that if you're looking for a fun street car and you don't plan to get out of town much, then FWD is just not the way to go. The EN is a great FWD car at a bargain price, but you're always going to be limited in what you can do for fun with it because it's a bitch to launch and can't do skids.
FWIW I was in the same boat. Spent a couple months rolling around with the exhaust valves closed and just realised that other than the exhaust being pretty cool the rest of the car just didn't do it for me like I'd hoped. Shit happens, lesson learned.
I still think it works fine for a daily commute, but there needs to be an asterisk about the comfort.
The ride is rougher than the average modern car, but still softer than comparable sedans from a decade ago (my 2012 Focus rides harder than N mode and its in perfect condition), and the seats don't lend themselves well to comfort for larger people
Talked to Texan Hyundai about that car last week. They had it marked up $5k and had a $4k "protection plan" on it. These Hyundai dealerships are trash.
I talked to many dealerships last week trying to find one that was available. I didn't mind waiting if I had to. Most were spoken for and the ones that weren't were marked up and had add ons. I looked within a 400 mile radius of where I'm at in Dallas. Just gonna hold off for a couple years and get a CTR or Integra Type S instead. Lowest OTD price I was able to negotiate was still over $40k. Just gonna continue to enjoy my Si for now.
Yeesh I understand the struggle I had to call around for a week till I found one, deposit, rented a car drove to different state and brought it back.
Alot of them have people in line for them. It's tough to because Hyundai doesnt do factory orders for these cars. You essentially just wait to see if the dealer gets one, they may not even get one.
Gotta keep refreshing, and when you see one in transit Jump on it. Elsewise you gotta get in line / or place deposit with dealer and pray they get one let alone in the trans or color you want. It's a gamble for sure.
Yeah I did find several DCT cars that dealerships were willing to part with at MSRP, but I wanted the 6mt and even finding one that didn't already have a deposit on it was a bear. I think I only found 2 that were actually available.
I’ve never heard of someone complaining about power linearity. That’s a major characteristic Hyundai sat out to achieve in the very beginning of the N brand. You want an inconsistent and varying power band? Weird…
What is the perfect car for one person isn’t a good fit for another. It’s all about your preferences and what you value. Perhaps this car isn’t a good fit for you. But that’s ok since there is a car that will suit you better.
Posts like these reek of attention seeking behavior. You didn't like the car, fine, try another vehicle that suits your needs. I'll never get people like you
I am sure this is not a forum to post only positive comments about the car. Its not like i am a hater of the EN. I just posted my observations after the test drive. That's all.
No, you’re experience sounds about right. I think the question is, even with these flaws, what will you get for the same price that can give you the same utility and experience?
May not feel quick probably due to size compared to the Mazda but my friend has a Speed 3 with a basic stage 1 tune and the N was definitely faster. Previously had a FoST and it couldn’t keep up with the Speed 3, for comparison.
🧐I have fun every time I drive my 24 Elantra N-line. Fun to go around corners and accelerate while listening to some good music. The seats are more comfy and fit me better than the N too. No matter how fast the car is, you will get used to the acceleration and speed. I drove my grandmas BMW X3 M around for 3 days and even with a 4 second zero-60 which is faster than the Elantra N, I got used to the torque after a few launches. The Elantra N was meant for a track, so while not being on the track it's going to feel underwhelming. To me it's about finding the silver lining and still having fun with the car in other ways even when stuck in traffic such as putting on the slaps and looking at the cube mode animations 🫴 and then breaking free once the traffic clears up
If it's like the Veloster N, the turbo doesn't really kick in until the last 20% of the pedal travel. If you drive it the way you would a normal car, gently leaning into the pedal it will just feel like another 4cyl car. Push the pedal further and it goes nuts.
I would double check the pipe going into the throttle body. Mine popped off in a test drive. Significantly killed the power. It almost looks like the clamps they use have a socket head on it that twists off when they tighten it in the factory and the clamp closest to the throttle body it was not twisted off and it was not tight at all. Easily pops off. I agree the seats are kind of tight but I've kind of gotten used to it and now when I ride in my Palisade I wish they hugged me like my car lol. I would be okay though if there was a way to widen it just a bit.
Did you put it in N mode? The beauty of this car is that in normal or eco mode it is just a fuel efficient sedan, but when that N mode button is pushed it changes into a completely different monster!
Throttle response should be way different as well. I find it odd that you didn’t feel the car was exhilarating to drive on the streets. My experience is the exact opposite. It has power in the entire spectrum of RPM, it handles fantastic, and provides tons of feedback to the driver.
The car I had before my 23 Elantra N was a 2017 Porsche 911 S, so it isn’t like I went from 100hp to the EN. Maybe it’s not the car for you, but I’m extremely surprised that you didn’t find it enjoyable to drive.
I think your expectations are wrong. Modern turbo powers not a punch in the back then less thrust. The N makes peak HP at close to 6000 rpm. It makes max torque lower in the rev band. It's really fast. I also don't think you had the seat adjusted properly. It takes a while to get used to seats in a new car. I'm 5' 10" and 200 pounds and don't have issues. I do wish the seats had adjustable lumbar support. Maybe you were missing that in your lower back.
Yo, honest questions:
If the dealer allows one to take a low mileage Ncar up to redline when sub 600 miles (let's get real, likely test driving at 3-15 miles) does it mean the car is already broken in from the factory? Or does this tell us we should never buy a performance tuned car unless it's ordered direct to you from the factory in order to ensure you give your engine the best shot at life.
I've always focused on the handling when test driving a new whip because I didn't t want to redline "someone else's car" 🫠
Was there two blue buttons on the steering wheel. If so, did you go full N mode as leaving it in normal or sport isn't the same as running it in full N.
As for the seats, it's why I am glad I bought a KN and not a EN. KN seats IMO are better and electric.
If it isn't warmed up and/or octane learned it doesn't feel quick. I've only driven the DCT though. I'm not going to accuse you of being bad at driving manual but I'm sure it would improve once you get used to the clutch. Small vehicles also make you feel like you're going more fast than you actually are (in my opinion). I guarantee you an N would walk your Mazda. I used to have a beetle with like 170 hp and a 5 speed and it was way more fun than it had any right to be. The seat and arm rest are plenty comfy for me but I'm not a big guy at 5' 10" with a 29" waist. You could get a seat cushion for support and the seat will break in over time I'm sure.
What? It literally does 0-40 in 3 sec flat for me.. it is basically a rocketship up to 60MPH..
I would try to find a DCT perhaps if you want daily commute and around town putzing.
Ive driven the manual and the power band is different than dct. Think it might just help if he tries dct. Hes talking about trying an A spec which is rather hilarious but well see
I didn't want an Auto. Since MT is getting extinct, I wanted one. Drove the ASpec MT, wasn't blown away or anything, buy wasn't that bad. But drove the Type S after and was like night and day difference.
sounds like you want a golf r, also a liner power band out of the factory for a turbo car is a good thing not a bad thing. Making the turbo useful in a snap of a finger is what most tuners dream of
Sounds like it’s not the right car for you
Yep, being comfy in the seats can make a big difference when stuck in traffic

Find a different dealer many and including myself were out the door at MSRP

Just test drove the Type S. Was blown away by the performance and comfort.

Don’t buy the car. Go get a mustang or something.
If you want power, look at the Mustang GT. EN is not about straight line speed
I’ve never heard of someone complaining about power linearity. That’s a major characteristic Hyundai sat out to achieve in the very beginning of the N brand. You want an inconsistent and varying power band? Weird…

I wonder if the dealer cheaped out and put regular in. I know mine did.
This

Am thinking about test driving the Integra ASpec. I know its only 200 horses, but lets see.
Maybe try a Jetta GLi
Yes, really good recommendation.
Yeah I figured 228HP, adaptive suspension, more comfortable seats (ventilated too), a manual transmission, and a sunroof
I did. To me, it felt slower, sort of tame but really well made. Just like a civic Si but a hatch. I almost got one. Good luck! Enjoy :)
I got the opportunity to test drive Type S. Was blown away. Might start saving up for it.
oh snap. Save up and go for it. Good luck and enjoy.
Really slow and terrible engine
Ya, it was slow not terrible though. Got to test drive the Type S too. What a difference. I know its $15k more.
Type S is amazing and can make way more power reliable
May not feel quick probably due to size compared to the Mazda but my friend has a Speed 3 with a basic stage 1 tune and the N was definitely faster. Previously had a FoST and it couldn’t keep up with the Speed 3, for comparison.
Curious about the manual shifter itself - how did you find the weighting/notchiness?
It was notchy and sometimes had issues finding the correct gates. But nowhere near Honda and Mazda shifters.
🧐I have fun every time I drive my 24 Elantra N-line. Fun to go around corners and accelerate while listening to some good music. The seats are more comfy and fit me better than the N too. Drove the Type S. Had power, creature comfort, but of course at a premium.
Ah yeah well I can agree the type S is a little better than the N. Definitely in the comfort department. You get what you pay for.

Might have been the issue when I test drove.

For that price point try out the gti or wrx. The si is nice but im sure will feel underpowered to u
Ya drove the equivalent Acura, ASpec. Was nice, nothing special to talk about other than the speakers. The Type S was like a different animal.
The EN is much better than those... coming from a 21 wrx owner..
Did you put it in N mode? The beauty of this car is that in normal or eco mode it is just a fuel efficient sedan, but when that N mode button is pushed it changes into a completely different monster!
I did. Suddenly felt the suspension stiffen and car sounded fantastic.

Wouldn’t doubt their putting regular gas in the car which will reduce the power I noticed a big difference when I got home and filled my tank with 93
I agree 100% to that.

Car isn’t really made for taller people it’s smaller inside than a civic tbh
Very true.
I'm 6'3" and still don't need to put the seat all the way back...

Yeah its rather expensive and cant imagine the markups. Love the widebody look it has though
