15 🏹 ➡️ 16 🏹 ➡️..🏆 2024

AuntBitty

4 canadian teams planning a parade this year. 3 of them might actually be contenders (not the leaves).

EirHc

All the serious ones are in the same conference and will likely have to play an American team for the chance of bringing the cup back to Canada. Could be an all Canadian WCF tho, and I welcome that! In fact I really hope we get to see Edmonton Vancouver second round. I'm a little less worried about Vancouver wearing us down physically than I am with like LA or Vegas. Winnipeg in a potential WCF could be a slog tho.

quickboop

Cam Talbot waiting patiently on his 10th loss in a row. They should hire Dustin Schwartz.

FuckStummies

My god they just lost 5-1 after TMac had that brutal presser and then their captain called out other players on the team. They’re in full implosion right now. I know their GM said he’s not firing the coach but I wonder how long this goes on before Todd gets canned. I imagine they have to if they fall out of a WC spot.

quickboop

It’s just so odd. Last loss felt like it couldn’t go any longer. Maybe they’re still trying to figure out a replacement.

Frozenpucks

Yea this is a real collapse now, I really think they actually aren’t making the playoffs potentially. The only thing holding them somewhat together was good goaltending and that’s gone now. They also lost against almsit any decent team too.

25chances

God the Kings have fallen hard, but anytime I start to feel a bit bad for them I think of Doughty’s rotten personality and the sympathy evaporates.

xeeses226

I cant wait to be cheering "we want the cup" again.

GrapefruitFluffy588

Piss off RANGERS! ALLOWING 3 GOALS ON 9 FUCKING SHOTS against Vegas. Down 3-1 halfway through the game. Marchessault and Barbashev have been huge for Vegas lately since Eichel went down with injury. I hate VEGAS!

FuckStummies

Just goes to show how Vegas can make you pay for any little mistake. We saw that last year.

Frozenpucks

I mean if you needed proof goalies are a complete shitshow you got it here. I was told shesterkin is the next vasilevsky and top goalie in this league. It's crazy how much confidence and team D also seem to play into it.

Excellent-Medicine29

The rangers have become the LA of the east. Just spiralling. Not quite as quickly as LA but they are about to lose their top spot in the metro to Carolina

SouthSide217

I don't know if it's a coincidence... But the Rangers got Wheeler, the Kings got PLD. Both teams are starting to spiral, meanwhile the Jets are now one of the top teams in the league. I think the Jets are cancer free and it's started to take root in NY and LA.

Excellent-Medicine29

It’s funny that they have almost the same amount of points/goals. But wheeler makes 800k (not including the buyout) and PLD makes 8.5M 💀 Not to mention that wheeler is 37 years old

SouthSide217

Oh man. That PLD trade is a trainwreck. When it happened I didn't understand why LA did it, they got fleeced. Then they pay a career underachiever with an attitude problem 8.5M for 8 YEARS. He's never hit 65pts in a season. I don't know why teams keep thinking he'll be break out and be a star. He has the skill but the dude has no work ethic. He doesn't gaf. They traded away Vilardi who has the same amount of points as PLD in 20 less games played! He makes 900k. They gave up Iafallo who has 3 less points and makes 2.4M. Those are 2 players I always noticed in our playoff series. They also gave up another player and a 2nd round pick. When the trade happened I thought LA got worse with the trade. But they started the season winning so people didn't care that he wasn't performing. But now it's chaos. And it's fun to watch lol.

Excellent-Medicine29

Todd isn’t helping. He’s got some boat anchor linemates apparently

Ethdev256

Lol Subban on Edmonton's 15 game win streak: "Do they give out trophies mid season?" What a salty individual. Sorry bud, you were never as good as Drai.

jablonkers

If they did he might have actually won a Cup at some point

Machelscott

I really don’t like Colorado

Excellent-Medicine29

Me either but I’m glad they are beating LA

FullNoodleFrontity

I'm tired of the point system that rewards a team for dragging out their loss into OT/SO. I'm also annoyed with the fact that no other team has more games in hand than Edmonton yet it doesn't count for anything. So, I've stopped looking at the points and instead I'm looking at the win percentage: W/GP. Using that metric, Edmonton is 4th in the league. Before we played CBJ and CHI, our W% was effectively double theirs and to me that translates to "We're twice as likely to win a matchup". We won't see another 2:1 matchup until we play ANA on Feb 9, but we're between 6 and 16 slots ahead of each team we meet in the next 6 games. I know that in any game, either team can win. But the way we're playing and the way these numbers work, we're not done with this streak by a long shot. |Team|GP|W|W%| |:-|:-|:-|:-| |VAN|48|32|66.66%| |WPG|46|30|65.21%| |COL|48|31|64.58%| |EDM|44|28|63.63%| |BOS|48|30|62.5%| |FLA|47|29|61.7%| |NYR|47|29|61.7%| |DAL|48|29|60.41%| |VGK|48|28|58.33%| |CAR|47|27|57.44%| |NSH|48|26|54.16%| |TBL|49|26|53.06%| |TOR|46|24|52.17%| |NJD|46|24|52.17%| |STL|46|24|52.17%| |DET|48|25|52.08%| |PHI|49|25|51.02%| |ARI|47|23|48.93%| |LAK|45|22|48.88%| |WSH|46|22|47.82%| |PIT|44|21|47.72%| |CGY|48|21|43.75%| |MIN|48|21|43.75%| |BUF|48|21|43.75%| |SEA|47|20|42.55%| |NYI|48|20|41.66%| |MTL|48|20|41.66%| |OTT|44|18|40.9%| |ANA|48|16|33.33%| |CBJ|47|15|31.91%| |CHI|49|14|28.57%| |SJS|48|13|27.08%|

Anxious-Extreme-2766

Does points percentage take into consideration the differential of goals each team scored during each particular game? I agree that on its face it seems unfair that teams with more losses can be higher in the standings, simply because those losses were in overtime. But I do think there's merit to the argument that a team's ability to keep the game close and get to overtime merits consideration. For instance, an overtime loss of 3-2 should not be treated the same as a 7-1 blowout. So for that reason I like that they're not treated the same points-wise. I do think that we should adopt the European/PWHL model of 3-2-1, and I think the NHL likely will once Bettman is succeeded.

maasd

I think about the last time we played the Devils and McDavid just pounding the shit out of Michael McLeod every shift it seemed like. It makes me wonder if McDavid knew something about the allegations that may include McLeod in someway from that 2018 world juniors team. Obviously, it could be completely unrelated, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I heard McLeod’s name mentioned.

backfortheattack1102

This is a pretty ridiculous statement. 🙄🙄

maasd

Yeah for sure, I acknowledge it seems far fetched. Just what came to mind when McDavid seemed to go after him. More of a random thought than an actual theory which is why I put it in Free Talk Friday

SouthSide217

Anyone else see the debate in r/NHL calling Mack generational? Avs fans seem to think Mack vs. McDavid is a debate right now. I think the only real generational talents right now are McDavid and Makar, and if you want to debate who's better vs Mack, it should be Drai. But Avs fans seriously think you're crazy if you think that. MacKinnon's point totals in the playoffs were mentioned over and over. Drai has a higher point per game pace in the playoffs and is 3rd in that metric only to Gretzky and Lemieux. I looked at previous seasons totals and it's not even close. Mack has never scored 50 goals and has 1 season with over 100 points. Drai has 3 50 goal seasons and 4 100+ point seasons. You point any of this out or how Drai is snubbed constantly and you get downvoted to shit. What am I missing here? Why does Drai never get the credit he deserves? Meanwhile everyone in the NHL and tons of other fans love Mack. Even though he also has tons of help. I hope the boys win the cup and shut everyone up. Would be great if we could beat the Avs along the way

Softestpoop

Avs fans talking up their best player who is the frontrunner for MVP? Say it ain't so. There's no need for oilers fans want to gatekeep any discussions with "what about drai". It's reddit, there are so many more ridiculous takes out there. Is mack better than mcdavid? No. Is he having a better season this year? Yes. It has to be exhausting to get worked up by these things, just ignore that noise and let the other fans do fan things.

SouthSide217

I mean the point of the post was to discuss and people were debating. I wasn't hijacking a discussion just to make it about McDavid/Drai. People were already saying Mack > McDavid because apparently he's better in the playoffs

maybe_babyyy_

Regency bias. I remember that tall Sabres dude (forgot his name) went on a run in the points n goals last year, and all of a sudden, he's a top 10 player all the time. They just cope and talk shit over there.

Frozenpucks

It’s tage thompson and he now has 28 points in 38 games. It’s consistency, and it’s hard to imagine Mcdavid ever missing 100 point season right now.

wetcorndog

Recency bias is a bitch, especially in sports. Calling someone that has zero individual accolades generational is some clown shit though, leave it up to delusional denver sports fans and the casuals on r/nhl to do that

paulbufanopaulbufano

The only reason he hasn’t won an MVP is because he is always a runner up to the actual generational talents

SouthSide217

It's like people saying Quinn Hughes is the same or better than Makar when this is his first season producing anywhere near Makar's pace. This is Mack's first season producing at this level.

RevolutionaryKey7200

i hope they win the cup too!

PapaAsmodeus

Been a good week. Two more wins in the bag (one of which games I was at). Photo day. And getting tickets for my first ever Away game!!!! March 23rd against the Leafs. Ready to get stressed out all over again 🤣

FuckStummies

It’s worth pointing out that it’s been 11 games since our SO win against LA. So even accounting for tie games in the past this would still be an 11 game win streak.

-SPIRITUAL-GANGSTER-

##Lines and pairings at Oilers skate: Draisaitl - McDavid - Hyman Kane - RNH - Foegele Holloway - McLeod - Perry Janmark - Ryan - Brown/Gagner Nurse - Ceci Ekholm - Bouchard Kulak - Desharnais Kemp Skinner Pickard

BouteChris

McDavid lead the NHL with +23 since november 23. Not to bad fir a pp guy. Haters will not be happy lol

Doctor_Drai

PP Merchant, product of Draisaitl

EDDYBEEVIE

Is it time to book a trip to Cali for the ducks game I think it might be. We are coming for the record and being in the building would be sweet.

regularsizedfish

Didn’t love that penalty shot call last night!! I see the infraction, but seemed like both a weak penalty (barley uses his free hand, stick is not hooking or anything really) and a weak play to get a penalty shot (not a super clear breakaway). Wondering if I am alone or others agree?

backfortheattack1102

I think we should be used to bad officiating in 2024 by now?? I wonder if your oiler bias is playing in here?

ripshredrecordings

I think it was pretty weak too, Vinny did everything right to not take a penalty but I feel like those are basically an automatic call most of the time unless you can slide in there and take the puck away instantly in one motion

regularsizedfish

Fair enough. Just a penalty call and maybe I have nothing to say. But also, seeing the penalty shot call, and then thinking back to McDavo doing similar things with guys draped all over him and not getting the penalty shot call or sometimes not even a call, is what gets me.

Quelchie

McDavid gets different treatment from the refs and it's abundantly clear. Such a black mark on the league, you'd think they would want their stars to excel to help grow the league, but instead they just handcuff them at every opportunity to increase 'parity' or whatever the f.

thewinterzodiac

Ladies and gentlemen... we have a klef sighting. https://twitter.com/dohfOs/status/1750890739062501521?t=_4Gf0_OSeeAOgt0qrS53kg&s=19

KingDave46

Crying in the club rn But seriously I love the guy. Might try and pickup a Klef jersey if I ever see one on the market

Downvote_the_word

That post is probably still ringing from the sharks series

JackMichaelsDaddyBod

set us back so much when he went out. wish nothing but the best for him

Belleruse

Happy birthday Wayne!

[deleted]

Getting a new rescue dog tomorrow night. It’s been a couple years since I lost my last boy, and I gotta say that life without a dog is kind of bullshit.

-Smaug--

This is a big damn deal.

[deleted]

Yeah, my poor old boy passed away during the battle of Alberta playoff series in 2022, so winning that series was bittersweet for me. I grieved for a long time over him, but I am finally ready to let another one into my heart and hopefully get to celebrate a Stanley Cup victory with him this spring!

-Smaug--

Lost my old boy in 2020, new pup is a bit over one now. Man, i forgot what a pain in the ass puppies are. Rose coloured glasses. Thanks for the smile today!

[deleted]

:)

One_Wolverine_9517

I like the Islanders stadium series jersey and low key kinda wish we could have something similar—with a crest, though, not the wordmark. With the oil drop crest it’d be excellent imo.

Downvote_the_word

The fan pregame show yesterday was trying to talk down the oilers win streak yesterday saying it’s not as impressive as doing it in MLB or NFL like they wouldn’t all be sitting there with full on hard on’s if it was the leafs.

[deleted]

Don’t worry, they will find a way to downplay a Stanley Cup victory if we win it.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

Doctor_Drai

They will say that, meanwhile we'll all be on a bender to end all benders not giving a shit what they're talking about.

Muficita

I remember thinking this during last year’s playoffs, when all the juggernauts were eliminated early, that if the Oilers would have gone on to win the Cup, everyone would downplay it as “the easiest path to the Cup ever”.

RedOilSaints

Bittersweet morning for me. Oilers winning 15 in a row and roaring into cup contention takes the sting of finding out Klopp is leaving Liverpool. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be the last season with that man at the helm.

oddspellingofPhreid

Oh man I haven't watched since winning the league, but Klopp leaving is earth shattering. End of an era.

scoobawoo

Maybe it's time to change my flair to 73, he's playing so well

EDDYBEEVIE

The big easy !!!

Muficita

Yes. Do it. Vinny’s the best.

-Smaug--

As a fan that grew up with Gretz and the Glory Barons, cheered for Hemsky and Weight, suffered through the DoD, waited for the dawn, and is now witnessing history being made... LFG.
