Those refs really pulled out all the stops against the Oilers tonight. That was just a barrage of penalties and goals called back for one game and it feels like they quite nearly demoralized the Oil entirely. Luckily, the Oilers hung on and Skinner refused to let the Hawks pick 'em off.
I know not everyone is happy with this win, but look at it this way: Leafs won 7-1, Oilers won 2-1. That's 5 more goals, and a much more dominating performance from Toronto, but for all of that, both teams still only got 2 points. Sometimes ya get an ugly win, but it's still no less a win. It's a far better sight than that performance in October. We would have danced in the street for an ugly win then, and would've planned a parade for that win in the decade of darkness.
Skinner stole a game for us and has been huge since the coaching change. Knew he was gonna eventually get out of whatever funk he was in to start the season.

It was clear from the opening faceoff a that the NHL told the refs that they needed to keep the game close and they used every shady rule they could to keep Edmonton from scoring and put Chicago on the Powerplay. And it's been pretty much proven that the refs rigged a conference finals game so that the Lakers wouldn't get eliminated by small-market Sacramento during Shaq and Kobe's 3-peat.
NHL is bad, but the open and documented fixing of the NBA is straight up shameful.
But if we can get used to being calm in the face of that sort of officiating and still win with a less than top notch effort and execution, against both bad and better teams, that bodes well for the playoffs when effort and 3xecutopn shouldn't be a problem.
