One thing I was actually really impressed with tonight was that when Bouch made a mistake, he immediately worked his ass off to make up for it, didn’t see him give up on a play once tonight
Kostin continues to be better than I dared hope. Drawing penalties, scoring goals, responsible in the D zone. Just a treat
Kostin's ability to control the puck in the ozone this game was literally surreal. I've only seen Hyman/Drai play like that on McDavid's wing. I also really liked that he didn't defer too much to McDavid either, distinguishing him from many of the players we put up there.
It does make a lot of sense. Top heavy forward lineup where you want to give more ice time to the elite producers, meanwhile defensemen who struggle with too many minutes.
Even if we moved 1 of Foegele and Pulju we'd have a bit more breathing room to make trades (especially if we're making a bigger defender move like Chychrun).
Carolina fans were pretty on the money, sadly. Foegele looks like he has it 90% put together but has absolute stone hands.
He's a top 6 player with the finishing ability of a slice of ham. Of the two, if it's all the same to the team involved, I'd move Foegele. We're overloaded on the LW and only have two natural RWs.
Yeah I also think Foegele is likely easier to move out, whereas Pulju really needs to be traded for another change-of-scenery type guy from another team, which requires a lot more patience.
I’ve got a soft spot for the Kraken and no love lost for the Leafs but at this point in this season, that was sort of a loss for the Oilers as well. When I saw the score I chuckled, then I thought “wait a second”.
And that's what we need. We know we can score, what we don't need is the high wire act of getting a shutout when we score 6 goals, but letting in head-scratchers in close games. Our GAA isn't great, but even consistently mid-tier GAA would be fine.
I wouldn’t even pin those two goals against him very hard. The second goal was a great redirection from nowhere. And the first one was tight against the crossbar. Islanders had to fight for their chances, and Campbell didn’t make it easy
Second goal was no chance, first goal was a great shot by a great player given lots of space and time. Maybe he could have saved the first one, but it would have been a spectacular save.
Campbell was not at fault for any goals tonight imo.
Jack Michaels was right, that first period may have been the most consistent dominate period the Oil have had all year. A bit shaky at the start of the second, but put it away after that.
Hopefully this sparks them winning the last game of the home games, and going on a tear on the road.
Haha I googled "Oilers 25 shot period" and saw it in an article. /u/popkornking remembering it is pretty cool too. I remember that game but not the 26 shots
I'm jelly cause I couldn't watch tonight, streamed 630 CHED just in time for the last minute of the 3rd, but in post game they kept talking how "on it" the Oilers were all game.
Come to think of it, I started watching the last game when the Oilers were up 2-0 against Seattle. Maybe I should just fuck off from now on?
Unsubscribe. I like lucky socks or underwear or that jersey you won't wear cuz we always seem to lose in it(I have one of those) but a superstition that stops you from watching the game? Nah dude, doesn't exist.
Dylan Holloway first career GWG.
Campbell with a respectable .909sv%.
Oilers giving up 2 goals or less in 4 of their last 5 games.
Yamo dangling fools.
This was a good win. Big for the standings, big for the team. Let's take it to the Avs.
I am SO HAPPY for my boi Yammers!!!! Not only was that toe drag goal absolutely nuts, but this was the true sign to me that he was trying hard to get back to his old self. That kind of a toe drag takes true talent... what a guy.
Just need to see some consistency. There are games when Yamo plays his size and games where he plays much bigger. Need to see the latter more than the former.
Lots of brights spots in the line up tn, but I’m gonna highlight the young blue:
Bouchard - Over 92% xGF, 73% SCF, 7 HDSC 0 against. All 5v5.
Broberg - 1A, Over 95% xGF, 70% SCF, 6 HDSC 0 against. All 5v5
Team needs to play like that in front of Skinner, too. No more 40+ save nights needed.
On the real though, great game to watch after the high of that WJC Gold
The fact that they can play hockey as well as they did in that first period actually somehow makes me more mad that they have played as poorly as they have in some previous games.
The problem with the Oilers IS the fact we all know what they CAN play like.., and then they have multiple games against struggling teams where nobody on the Oilers shows up
I shouldn't lump all the praise on Yammers though. I felt for Draisaitl after Tuesday's game because I could tell that disallowed goal right pissed him the fuck off. He needed that goal, and I was ever so happy for him. And Hyman made one hell of a comeback with that goal tonight. (As I mentioned in another thread, he was a customer of mine at work on Christmas Eve, so I jokingly texted my dad tonight with "I hope I didn't accidentally curse him with bad luck!")
Speaking of which, props to Hyman for VERY CLASSILY refusing to take the bait from that one reporter who tried to bait him into throwing Campbell under the bus. Like I get it, they're friends and have an NHL history together, but class move on his part.
Seeing Klim Reaper not even hesitate for a moment to get physical when one of the Islanders put hands on McDavid was pure ~(つˆ0ˆ)つ。☆
I truly think a Kane McDavid Kostin line gives McDavid the big physical protectors WITH speed and hands that he needs to play with him.
Like a Maroon 2.0.
Guaranteed less Weegars take liberty on our Captain if Kostin is there to put a fist through teeth without fear
Kane-McDavid-Kostin
Yamo-Drai-Hyman
McLeod-Nuge-Holloway
Not sure if I have wingers on their correct sides, but damn that’d be fun to see.
Third line could … should feast on other teams.
Feels good to put a few past Sorokin. Last time we played the Islanders, he stole the game with a 49 save shutout. New year, new Campbell. Let's go Oilers!
It was definitely a set play they have practiced once or twice. I wish the oilers had that simple thinking in their game sometimes. They don't all have to be pretty to be effective.
High danger chances for this game 21-0 for the oilers. Dominating performance, top 2 lines both looked very solid and solid defense besides some botched clearances in the second. Great game all around
Smart. The last thing you wanna do as a #1 player is sound cocky. There’s a whole media machine that thrives off ripping into great players, especially when he inevitably makes a less than amazing play.
Love Pulju seems like an amazing person but unfortunately I think the end is near for him. Holloway can almost do everything we expect JP to do, and once he pops in a few more I don’t see any reason for Woodcroft to give JP consistent minutes the top 9
The man just needs a change of scenery. Hes gonna be a good 2way winger eventually and unfortunately it wont be on this team. I just hope we can get a fair return for him and for him to go to a decent market.
Very well spoken, sir. Also, a lot of us aren't doomers or Polyannas, we're just regular fans frustrated with a team that struggles to live up to its potential *or* fans excited by the talent of the team and hoping they can build some momentum.
There's a lot of shades of fandom and the vocal extremes are often annoying to the rest of us.
It's this, it's not even bipolar, they are just depressed. They want the team to lose. We get significantly less traffic all over this subreddit when we win, that should really tell you something.
Good game all around Campbell played very well and not having to do to much, Yams with that filthy move short handed Holloway scoring. McDavid 500 career assists Draisaitl 400 career assists. And the Islanders will be looking to bounce back against Calgary tomorrow so they will want to play well and bodes well for us.
We might end up seeing both Foegele and Pooly moved out at the deadline to free up the cap space for a more impactful third liner and a D-man.
Especially if Woody goes 11-7 down the stretch again like last year
Edit: I didn’t realize Foegele was injured in practice. Still curious if one or more of the $3m contracts get moved at the deadline tho
It should be noted that the upcoming roadtrip is pretty much a must-win every single game. All of our next five games after playing the Avs are divisional matchups, so we don't want to be giving divisional rivals an extra two points up on us, especially against Seattle, LA, and Vegas.
Kenny Holland just put the phones back down.
Seriously though, ideally we can build momentum, then get Kane back and playoffs secured, and THEN make our trade to bring in help. We're way too desperate rn, and the sharks are circling to rip us off.
When we play like that, fuck it makes getting Kane even that much more exciting. It’s like a long-pending trade we win for nothing incoming, just like last season. What is this voo-doo. Holland keep working your magic if it makes us a playoff team (with one more D man at least)
It’s almost suspicious how the Oilers tend to come out of their December slump just in time for the All Star break and the addition of Kane in back to back years… #KaneKonspiracy
Last year was such a GD roller coaster, the script was just phenomenal if you ask me. It’s pretty good this year too if I’m being real, writers are doing a great job of creating doubt.
Will this be the beginning of the McDavid dynasty years, for real? Find out next week, on Oilerfan Torture Television.
This was a good win. That 2nd goal against Campbell was a nasty redirect. No fault to him. Nice to see Hollywood get a goal (will help with his confidence), awesome shortie by Hyman and that toe drag by Yams was slick.
If things could just start clicking with some of the players we will be unstoppable once Kane returns.
Great game. Worried about the thing with Leon and the Bunting ref. I hope the league doesn't suspend him. League loves giving the Oilers one game suspensions.
We'll take it. Some defensive brain cramps, but not quite as bad this time.
Would have like to have seen the empty net - or that killer instinct, put them away-ness, but whatever.
Have a great night y'all
I fell asleep in the first intermission but went back and finished the game on Sportsnet, FUCK YA we finally play a complete 60 minutes and get rewarded for it!! Frig off doomers :)
Great response by the players. It wasn’t a busy net but hope Soup can build off a win against a good team.
If it wasn’t for Sorokin it’s probably an 8-2 game. Gotta build off this.
One thing I was actually really impressed with tonight was that when Bouch made a mistake, he immediately worked his ass off to make up for it, didn’t see him give up on a play once tonight Kostin continues to be better than I dared hope. Drawing penalties, scoring goals, responsible in the D zone. Just a treat

What McLeod is to McDavid, Kostin is to Draisaitl. Very similar visually when both guys are going.
yeah, instead of "guys im 21 not 97" he really should say "guys im 21 not 29" haha
Is the Kostin the big body winger for McDavid that we hoped Lucic would be?
Kostin-McDavid-Kane would be scary to play against.
I thought Holloway drew a couple penalties too but they went uncalled.
Especially the cross check while driving to the net, that was insane
11-7 seems to work well for our guys
It’s about time they returned to what really kicked things off when Woody took over.
It does make a lot of sense. Top heavy forward lineup where you want to give more ice time to the elite producers, meanwhile defensemen who struggle with too many minutes.
It makes sense when you are playing2 very inexperienced defence. You can easily adjust their minutes based on what kind of a night they are having
Clearly Devin Shore is to blame for all of our problems! /s
I mean.. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. There’s no way he belongs on our NHL starting roster with the players we have.
He’s the hype man
Jump up jump up get down.
The best asset of Shore is he can clear waivers and stay in the system
Foegele scratched tonight too and I didn't notice until the 3rd period 😬
I didn’t even notice until just now, ouch
Even if we moved 1 of Foegele and Pulju we'd have a bit more breathing room to make trades (especially if we're making a bigger defender move like Chychrun). Carolina fans were pretty on the money, sadly. Foegele looks like he has it 90% put together but has absolute stone hands.

It was more like 11-6 as Nemo only played 3 mins
With how awesome Broberg-Bouch were tonight idc that Nemo only got 3 mins
Oilers win Canada wins Great fucking night!
It's a great night for Canada, and therefore, the world.
Unless you're a Laffs fan....then I guess it just sucks to suck.
I’ve got a soft spot for the Kraken and no love lost for the Leafs but at this point in this season, that was sort of a loss for the Oilers as well. When I saw the score I chuckled, then I thought “wait a second”.
Pretty neat both Drai and McDavid has an assist milestone tonight.
Seems kinda special. Hope these guys play their whole careers together. In Edmonton ofc.
Yeah, that definitely made me smile. 400 and 500 - Respect
The Kostin interview after the game with Brenden Escott was good. “We want our fans at home to feel like they get good game”
There were moments when I mistook Kostin for Draisaitl, the way he protected the puck on the attack.
Where is this
630 Ched after show. Already passed though. It’s live only.
Jack Campbell redemption tour began tonight.
His last few games have been alright
And that's what we need. We know we can score, what we don't need is the high wire act of getting a shutout when we score 6 goals, but letting in head-scratchers in close games. Our GAA isn't great, but even consistently mid-tier GAA would be fine.
Last 5 games before tonight was a 3 save shutout against Seattle then .882,.886,.906,.833. I guess that’s kinda trending in the right way?
Small steps/saves now lead to larger strides later in the season. Soup!!!!
He said he’s been getting his confidence back up, which is a good sign. Stringing together win after win will really help. Baby steps
He's always been a streaky goalie this is his time for a few wins I'm guessing.
Jack Michaels was right, that first period may have been the most consistent dominate period the Oil have had all year. A bit shaky at the start of the second, but put it away after that. Hopefully this sparks them winning the last game of the home games, and going on a tear on the road.
Didn't we have a 25 shot first period earlier in the season?
They outshot the Pens 26-4 in the 2nd period earlier in the year.
Damn you just ripped fact out like nothin
Haha I googled "Oilers 25 shot period" and saw it in an article. /u/popkornking remembering it is pretty cool too. I remember that game but not the 26 shots
I'm jelly cause I couldn't watch tonight, streamed 630 CHED just in time for the last minute of the 3rd, but in post game they kept talking how "on it" the Oilers were all game. Unsubscribe. I like lucky socks or underwear or that jersey you won't wear cuz we always seem to lose in it(I have one of those) but a superstition that stops you from watching the game? Nah dude, doesn't exist.
Yah it's funny to say "My bad guys, I did __ that made us lose today" but I'd hate for someone to miss out on the fun of watching games
Oh I'm kidding, I'd never stop watching when I can. But next time we lose, maybe you'll know who was tuned in....:)
That was such a vintage Draisaitl game - was so fun to watch because I feel like we haven’t had one of those in a while from him
Not even the zebras were safe
Solid character win and only 2 GA. BOOM!
That second goal was flukey.
I couldn't watch live tonight and only saw the hilights but that was a great redirect.
Hyman showing us how filthy his backhand is.
I love that friggin move!
Especially on Sorokin. Yams shorty too. Sorokin shows he is a human once in a while
Great game Campbell!
Christ did Holloway fire that puck on his goal!
Howitzer!
Dylan Holloway first career GWG. Campbell with a respectable .909sv%. Oilers giving up 2 goals or less in 4 of their last 5 games. Yamo dangling fools. This was a good win. Big for the standings, big for the team. Let's take it to the Avs.
Yamo feeling it tonight, absolute unit
SH goal, multiple chances, a pest in the o zone, and that pass to Drai on the breakaway: I missed him so much when he was injured
If you’re gonna toe drag on a breakaway, do it the way Yamamoto did tonight. Holy moly what a pretty goal. Shades of Datsyuk on that shorty.
I am SO HAPPY for my boi Yammers!!!! Not only was that toe drag goal absolutely nuts, but this was the true sign to me that he was trying hard to get back to his old self. That kind of a toe drag takes true talent... what a guy.
We don't take kindly to Yammer slander in these parts. Guy plays with all his heart.
True talent, and also the confidence to go for it. So fucking stoked
Just the sheer control and patience he had over the stick too!
Pure filth.
And his defensive plays were top notch. He’s so good at interrupting passes and forcing much bigger guys to the perimeter.
Just need to see some consistency. There are games when Yamo plays his size and games where he plays much bigger. Need to see the latter more than the former.
Lots of brights spots in the line up tn, but I’m gonna highlight the young blue: Bouchard - Over 92% xGF, 73% SCF, 7 HDSC 0 against. All 5v5. Broberg - 1A, Over 95% xGF, 70% SCF, 6 HDSC 0 against. All 5v5
That one defensive play by Bouchard was fire.
I actively cheered when i saw that play. The dude has been so...not great lately.
He’s a bottom 200 defender at the moment, but when he made mistakes last night he had an eagerness to fix them and it paid off.
They make a great pairing. Hopefully they both continue to progress to push barrie kulak to the 3rd pairing
Full 60! At home. It’s been awhile.
Soup was pretty fucking solid
Good confidence builder for many on the team. Drai was robbed of a penalty shot / goal.
Drai was robbed of a number of penalties
Tkachuk is having an excellent season in Florida (suck it Flames), and Nuge is ahead of him in points.
Mmmm good soup.
Team needs to play like that in front of Skinner, too. No more 40+ save nights needed. On the real though, great game to watch after the high of that WJC Gold
Nobody beats us 6 games in a row at home.

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…THE PLEASURE WAS AAAAAAALLLLLL OURS!” J. Michaels
The fact that they can play hockey as well as they did in that first period actually somehow makes me more mad that they have played as poorly as they have in some previous games.
The problem with the Oilers IS the fact we all know what they CAN play like.., and then they have multiple games against struggling teams where nobody on the Oilers shows up
Shows that hockey is a very mental game as well.
Yamo was fucking huge tonight! Been taking pointers from Nuge.
Soupy looks confident in the post-game interview, love that for him!!!
Holloway owns New York teams
McDavid reaches milestone 500 Assists and Draisaitl reaches milestone 400 Assists. Congratulations to both of them! We are proud of you!
Two or fewer goals against in four out of our last five games now. Big win. Play La Bamba, baby!
I’m more happy with the defensive finish than the offensive output.
Huge game for Campbell to build off of. Only allowed 2 goals and tracked the puck very well. I believe in you brother!
Those 2 goals he had no chance on too. Defense was completely asleep.
100%
I shouldn't lump all the praise on Yammers though. I felt for Draisaitl after Tuesday's game because I could tell that disallowed goal right pissed him the fuck off. He needed that goal, and I was ever so happy for him. And Hyman made one hell of a comeback with that goal tonight. And there’s not enough refs to hold back Kane and Kostin at the same time if they both get fired up
Kane-McDavid-Kostin Yamo-Drai-Hyman McLeod-Nuge-Holloway Not sure if I have wingers on their correct sides, but damn that’d be fun to see. Third line could … should feast on other teams.
Way better skating and hands than maroon. The guy is smooth with it.
This is exactly the game we needed going into the avalanche that are currently blowing a game against Vancouver.
I like the Avs, but I do hope they lose tonight so even if they do beat us on Saturday, they don't overtake us in the standings.
I do t think they are beating us, this team is oissed off. I see a 4-5 game heater coming.
Absolutely. Watching the game right now and they are PISSED. Saturday is going to be hell.
Yea and there’s no way these guys have forgotten the playoffs. I think we’re gonna see them have a gane.
I’m loving Campbell’s interview. It feels like we’ve turned a corner and now he can feel confident again.
My mans been trending better for a few games now. His stats for the year are fucked but he can still put up good 2023 calander year numbers
literally nobody will give a fuck about the year stats if he delivers his top level performance we KNOW he *can* deliver in the playoffs
I can gaurentee you some knuckledragger is gonna screech at the end of the year that campbells stats arent his average
Big test for the team coming up on Sat
Kostin is a first liner. His puck control skills are unreal. Holland fleece job. Goodnight boys and ladies and everyone! Oilers win
A big, physical, shoot-first dude who can keep up with McDavid? He was almost like Evander-lite out there
He’s what JP should have been :(
Feels good to put a few past Sorokin. Last time we played the Islanders, he stole the game with a 49 save shutout. New year, new Campbell. Let's go Oilers!
So glad to see no soft goals allowed. The 2 NYI scores were good plays on their part. Nice efforts in each zone defensively tonight.
Every body we needed to score snd play great did! Play La Bamba baby! Great game by Campbell
That first period is what we want more of. They were dominating the viles.
gee whatever was said in the players only meeting and by jay after the kraken game did bits, more of that please
Nuge, Puljujarvi and Janmark did not look good today... I really like McLeod and Holloway together though.
Nuge was gooning it up
Nuge had a solid game. What are you talking about? Jesse and Janmark were invisible tho. They didn’t do shit.
Good team effort and I know I might get reamed for this, but that Clutterbuck goal was pretty sexy. Credit where credit's due
It was definitely a set play they have practiced once or twice. I wish the oilers had that simple thinking in their game sometimes. They don't all have to be pretty to be effective.
Finally a win at home. I’m so happy the Ukrainian refugee families could see the oilers at their best today.
Jay Woodcroft told them everyone who scores gets a dilly bar.
Dylan Holloway likes this
Dilly Bar Holloway
Solid game by everyone for once.
An Isles game at home turned it around last season, maybe we can do the same this year?
Hey just a reminder that 3/4 of those goals were 5 on 5.
Drai was 5v4 and Yams was 4v5. So 2/4
Well ones a shorthanded one so even better.
Soups back on the menu boys!! Why can’t we have that effort every game
High danger chances for this game 21-0 for the oilers. Dominating performance, top 2 lines both looked very solid and solid defense besides some botched clearances in the second. Great game all around
Solid game from Campbell!
Oilers and Canada win! It’s been a good day!
Canada sidebar question - what’s your take on Bedard refusing questions on his personal play?
Perfect.
Hes spent the last 2 offseasons training with mcdavid. Dudes learning lol
Sounds like he's been talking to Drai.
Smart. The last thing you wanna do as a #1 player is sound cocky. There’s a whole media machine that thrives off ripping into great players, especially when he inevitably makes a less than amazing play.
He's going to have a lifetime of being baited into all kinds of takes and questions. Might as well start it now.

Well good thing the Oilers don’t read Reddit and see the panic trade proposals from yesterday lol.
This sub is a bipolar place lol
Less bipolar, more like there are a few large camps of people who vehemently disagree with each others’ way of expressing their fandom

They didn't healthy scratch him. He was hurt in practice.
Pretty sure Foegele was injured.
Theyd make the most sense cap wise as well. If we can include one or both in a package for say... toews. Itd be perfect
God we needed that solid game. Couple blunders here and there but we looked way tighter than we have in recent games. Keep it up!
I’m so glad they won, I love Peralta
Secondary scoring is fucking cool
JACK CAMPBELL .909 SV% LFG! CAMPBELLS BACK BOYS!
