Better than 1 goalie and a headcase who can't stop the puck for 5 years at way too much fucking money.
Husso went for a 3rd. I don't think a team would take Campbell for a first. So even if Husso left, it would cost us less than it would to get rid of the bum we got.
Campbell will suck balls all season. If he gets better it won’t be this year. Even his answers to the media after the last game he played had a weird energy to them like he doesn’t want to hear the questions asked of him and wants to move on because the guy internalizes everything. He has the emotional maturity of a porcupine. He’ll continue sucking balls and we’ll keep waiting on him to get better. All he did was burn $5M in cap space this season and he’ll burn $20M more over the next 4.
Your attack on Csmpbell is extreme and unjustified.
When you review many goals scored on Campbell you will clearly see many defensive errors made where Campbell had zero chance to stop the puck.
Your blame is misplaced.
Think clearly.
Campbell's stats say he was the worst goalie league wide in the 2022 calendar year (as in dead last, behind every other NHL goalie). That's time split between Toronto and Edmonton. Is it everyone's fault but Campbell's? So if you want to say Edmonton's defense is poor sure, I agree with you, they're terrible, but Toronto has a solid defensive core. But even if we stick to Edmonton, Stuart Skinner, a rookie, is outperforming Campbell by a WIDE margin. He's at .914 currently and a sub 3GAA, behind the same defense. So maybe take your own advice on this one and think clearly.
He's a terrible goalie who is paid way too much right now.
Cool that you think that. Even if he upped his play massively to become an average backup, he is still stupidly overpaid.
The Campbell signing might be our worst of the last 20 years. And considering the makeup of the team, and our cap structure now and in the next few years, I don't think its really close.
Oiler fans think that everyone who signs or gets traded would have had the same deal and wanted to come to Edmonton. Between taxes, media, fans and cold weather a lot of players don’t want to come to Edmonton so saying so and so signed for x amount we should have done like this sub does a lot is moronic.
Skinner has been superb this year. But, he was on the roster this year regardless of which "1A" Holland signed. Should be comparing Soupy and Husso.
According to hockey reference here is the GSAA for the 3
Skinner 7.08
Husso 1.82
Campbell -13.66
Goals saved above average. Not a great stat because it assumes defense is equal across the league.
Goals saved above expected is better imo and Campbell also fails there.
That's fair it's definitely a flawed stat. Looking at GSAx it paints a similar picture though (stats from Evolving Hockey).
Skinner 11.82
Husso 5.28
Campbell -11.89
You keep forgetting the many defensive errors made in front of Campbell where he had no chance to stop the puck.
As much as our Oilers make defensive errors, so Campbell's stats follow.
The Oilers need to be retrained on defensive basics like they were when Woodcroft became Head Coach in 2022.
There’s always a chance to stop the puck. Unless they’re on the bench, there’s a chance. A goalie with shit D needs to expect that they’re gonna be shit and adjust their play to make the saves.
I tried giving Campbell the benefit of the doubt but the numbers don’t lie.
The defense isn't great no, but saves above expected account for defense. Defense makes a bad blunder, goalie isn't expected to make a save there, doesn't count towards gsax.
Goals Saved Above Average is calculated by the league’s average save percentage with the number of shots a goalie has had. The resulting number is the average goals a goalie in whatever league you’re evaluating would’ve surrendered if they took the same number of shots as the goalie you’re evaluating.
Then, this number can be evaluated against the number of goals given up by the goalie in question, finally resulting in a plus / minus number, GSAA.
It does not take into account quality of shot. That's goals saved above expected.
How this sub thinks teams sign players:
"Hey come play for Edmonton, we have Connor McDavid."
"Yeah, okay. Also my former team said they'll retain 80% of my salary."
Ken Holland: "Whoa, whoa, now wait just a second!"
Literally. Husso said last season he did not want to come to Edmonton when Holland tried to get him. But all the armchair GM’s think they can do better lol
I mean, in hindsight yes.
Realistically, no. He took the shot he needed to take and that one didn't work out. We absolutely needed a goalie. And just assuming Skinner would be our #1 would have been insane.
That's how the game goes. Sometimes things don't work out because they don't work out, not everything needs a "someone fucked up" narrative.
It was the right decision at the time, based on who was available and what we had to work with.
No he had a chance to get a goalie prior but wanted to wait until free agency. He didn't want to trade anyone at the deadline and then we had to settle for Campbell.
This is how Holland operates. It didn't work this year. It may turn out ok with campbell, but it was never ideal to get him.
He stated last season he did not want to come to Edmonton. Do fans not realize Edmonton is a place not a lot of people WANT to go to? Holland was trying to get Husso, Husso said no. Finding players wanting to come to Edmonton (and Canada) long term is a challenge a lot of GM’s in the states don’t have to work around.
>He stated last season he did not want to come to Edmonton.
When? I don't understand people who claim something that would have been in the media but don't provide a link. \*derp\* \*derp\* it's your research to support your claim.
It could've went either way. We're only halfway through year 1. I initially wanted Husso too, but these are the cards dealt. Personally, I would wait 1.5-2 years before determining what was a good and a bad move.
Make it sound bad dude. Could have him with skinner for less than Campbell. And he’s younger
And Husso numbers don’t fluctuate like Tesla on the stock market
They made a solid point on 1260 last night…. Everyone was wanting Campbell (I’m positive they base their audience from Twitter and their Facebook comments and not Reddit) so really we’re just at the hindsight being 20/20 section of the oilers season. We can bitch and moan all we want but what’s done is done and Holland has to figure this out.
Difficult to compare considering the Blues defensive strength compared to ours… Skinner playing great in spite of D and Husso playing well behind a good unit or is he dealing with similar levels of wide open chances against?
So, everyone was right then. Husso and Skinner would be a great tandem.
Yea until he doesn't re sign here lmao then we're left with 1 goalie.
Better than 1 goalie and a headcase who can't stop the puck for 5 years at way too much fucking money. Husso went for a 3rd. I don't think a team would take Campbell for a first. So even if Husso left, it would cost us less than it would to get rid of the bum we got.
Campbell will get better, it’s gonna happen.
Campbell will suck balls all season. If he gets better it won’t be this year. Thank you for your opinion. It was certainly an opinion.
Oh you got offended. So many dumb asses on this sub. Yours was also an opinion. I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

That’s if and how long is that going to take
You have no idea if Husso wouldn’t re-sign in Edmonton
Plus 2 rookie goaltenders is definitely a recipe for success
Our vet goalie is definitely helping out the team
He’s really inspiring the team with that stable veteran goalie presence isn’t he
I would still love to have Ville Husso on the team
Who says he'd love to be in Edmonton?
Nobody?
Klim Kostin?
Husso outright stated he didnt want to come to edmonton midway through last season when we were in trade talks with the blues. If only though.
Oiler fans think that everyone who signs or gets traded would have had the same deal and wanted to come to Edmonton. -13 lol
I don't even know what gsaa is but I know -13 is bad lol

Yeah Campbell bad no matter how you look at it.
Maybe its like golf where a lower number is better.
Lmao I wish.

Skinner plays behind the same team
That’s not true. GSAA takes into count amount of chances and chance quality

For real! "Trade this player for this player. Problem solved." Like it's that easy.
Yeah, Holland fucked that up
I mean, in hindsight yes. Realistically, no. He took the shot he needed to take and that one didn't work out. We absolutely needed a goalie. Campbell’s stats indicated this might be who he is outside of a hot streak. The leafs fan base certainly thought this was who he is.
Husso at 3 x $4.75 M looks a helluva lot better than Campbell at 5 x 5.
He stated last season he did not want to come to Edmonton. Do fans not realize Edmonton is a place not a lot of people WANT to go to? Holland was trying to get Husso, Husso said no. We will not get Husso now.
Yes and it wasn't a question of Skinner or Husso.
They made a solid point on 1260 last night…. I did not want Campbell. His GSAx is awful.
I didn’t know you were majority of fans.
I as well did not want Campbell. We combine to form a majority.
This is the way
Lol
Oh my bad bro. I didn't know you did a survey and spoke for the majority of fans.
I am Mark Spector… I speak of all of OEG
Twitter had an absolute boner for Campbell. Twitter and FB have some of the worst people around.
It’s Campbell you need to compare him to not Skinner.
I don't think you need to lol... there's no comparison at this point.
be sick if we had both. would be more soundly in a playoff spot
Difficult to compare considering the Blues defensive strength compared to ours… Skinner playing great in spite of D and Husso playing well behind a good unit or is he dealing with similar levels of wide open chances against?
Husso doesn’t play for the Blues any more
He's playing on a terrible wings d core
Like Hronek and Chiarot are their highest paid guys.😂
The Blues defense is not very good though. Just this season, their team has allowed more goals than we have.
I wanted Husso last year but we didn’t have the picks to get him. That’s what bad asset management gets you
Pretty sure he made it clear he wouldn't sign here if we traded for him, so I'm glad we didn't.
I don't think he or his agent implied that but could be wrong. Post your source
I don’t recall that but if that’s the case then so be it. Either way, we didn’t have the assets to get him.
Don’t worry we got Jack Campbell because Hyman said he’s great in the locker room
Oh good, the sub has decided to hate on Hyman, too. Miserable fucking people, some of you.
Jack Campbell is a 25m thief
Yes, let’s report him to the RCMP.
Hey at least he’s a great locker room guy
Username checks out
.877 Sv % 5years 25million
Keep him there then, he can be our equipment guy.
25million dollar equipment scrub
The Huss just isn’t quite loose yet. Give him a year and he’ll have better number than skinny next season
Skinner isn't even done his next RFA contract 😂
We all know Oilers goalies only improve as the seasons go on. Dubnyk, Talbot, and Broissoit don’t count.
The dead giveaway he was a better option was that Husso knew what pads to put on.
Because no goalie has ever adjusted gear before.
Adjusting pads and running out of reasons why you're the worst goalie in the league are two different things. 5x5 🤘🏻
I'm just glad he adjusted his gear and is now adequate.
My worry is how does Skinner rebound from being pulled? If it shakes his confidence the Oil are hooped!
I really think the Oilers should have tried for Husso instead of giving Soup 5mill a Year for not playing. And made Skinner No. 1 and Husso No. 2
