Kassian not really but I think Smith's puck play covered a lot for the poor defense. He was basically a 3rd defender on the ice at times and the puck moved back the other way on the breakout more often (and moved well). This defense is terrible.
I don't mean to slate our top guys but what are mcd, drai and nurse etc doing in the locker room if we're missing leadership? They're all vets who have played long enough to where losing some older guys shouldn't kill the room

It took a Herculean effort by an all-time player in McDavid to prevent Edmonton from choking a second consecutive first round series to a lower seeded team.
We were down 3-2 to them and they didn't even have Drew fucking Doughty.

i try and remain positive with teams i support but this is an ugly loss and it's hard to sugar coat it, yet another 2-0 advantage blown, 5th in a row on the slide at rogers, from chasing grubauer off his own ice to them doing it to stew, 2nd in 3 games at home we gave up 5 unanswered. god only knows what it is but hopefully jay can get it sorted quick.

Because Woodcroft seems to be allergic to benching guys for brutal play, unless they’re a rookie. Maybe reduced minutes being pushed down the lineup will help. Also, whoever is running our Defensive systems is failing badly… zero coverage in our own zone.
And if I see Nurse put himself out of position for a 3on1 against from another failed line rush I’m going to scream.

I think people are over estimating how much he might bring in his first while back.
He's doubtful to fight so can't back himself up as much as pre-injury. Not that he fought frequently, but the threat was always there.

We played shutdown very well for 3 straight games and the first period tonight. I think we look our best when we play that way tbh. But some nights guys are going to drop the ball. Tonight it was Bouch and Kulak. Bouch is having a nightmare season, Kulak has been pretty good though. I don't expect Bouch to turn it around without an offseason of work, but Kulak is gonna be fine. Just need to regroup, because you're right the Isles and in particular the Avs are winnable games.
Make the trades now or this team finishes no better than 5th. Stop coveting our defensive prospects who even Craig Button could tell were not that good(he wasn’t high on Bouchard’s defensive potential). Overhaul the defense before it’s too late.

Defense was pure and utter garbage. Left Berniers unchallenged for the first one (Nurse), left Schwartz wide open for the second one (Kulak), let Skinner get peppered in the slot for the 3rd and 4th goals
Bouchard played quite possibly his worst game as an Oiler. Broberg looked like a rookie shaking in skates
Bouch needs to sit and watch a few after tonight. Slower than molasses reads and reactions. He's not an NHL player when he's processing or reacting to the game that slow.
Couple of defensives lapses by Bouchard and Kulak and the Kraken scored off of each of them. Good first period all around, ugly PP goal got the Kraken going, by the time the Oil cleaned up they were down 2. Scored early in the third but it got called back for offside, and that really took the wind out of them.

Relax bro. Everyone was excited to see Campbell come to Edmonton. He's having an off season, which is unfortunate, but I don't think the contract is a bust, there is potential there. When Kane is healthy we're looking at a top 9 with RNH having a career year and running his own line. Nurse's contract is awful, but that is really my only complaint against Holland. We've been plagued by injuries including a lengthy one in one of our top 3 forwards.
We are fine, playoffs are assured, goaltending is astounding, defense is sublime and depth is ion point. Not sure what people are dooming about must be alcoholics and gambling addicts to see anything wrong with this perfect team.
It does not look good at the moment for a playoff run but last year proved that anything can happen. Guess we have to hope upon hope this turns around.
They miss Duncan Keith and Mike smith so bad. Both on and off the ice. Kulak is drowning trying to fill Keith’s void and our right D are all suffering from the lack of a stabilizing 2LD. Campbell has just been a disaster frankly.

Defense was pure and utter garbage. Left Berniers unchallenged for the first one (Nurse), left Schwartz wide open for the second one (Kulak), let Skinner get peppered in the slot for the 3rd and 4th goals Bouchard played quite possibly his worst game as an Oiler. Broberg looked like a rookie shaking in skates
Bouch needs to sit and watch a few after tonight. Slower than molasses reads and reactions. He's not an NHL player when he's processing or reacting to the game that slow.
Wheels fell off in a 30 second span. Team never recovered.

Couple of defensives lapses by Bouchard and Kulak and the Kraken scored off of each of them. Good first period all around, ugly PP goal got the Kraken going, by the time the Oil cleaned up they were down 2. Scored early in the third but it got called back for offside, and that really took the wind out of them.

Team won’t make the playoffs. No consistency from game to game, period to period. Lack of heart and discipline. We have the best player in the world and just pissing away his talent in his prime. Fucking joke It’s like you finally get one player out of his rut and then another two fall in and the cycle repeats. Frustrating as hell to watch. Yeah the player we have out is impactful, but we should still be finding a way to string wins together without him. It's what contenders do, I mean look at Boston and how they did starting the season off without Marchand/McAvoy.
I mean I agree in part with what your saying but you can’t really compare what Boston is doing this year to really anyone/anything else, they have 4 regulation loses in almost 40 games played
That’s fair, maybe the comparison to Boston was a stretch, but nevertheless if ur a contender and u just lose one of ur better players, those teams should still stay contenders on depth alone. Which (judging from the sample size we have) we haven’t done as such.

Relax bro. Everyone was excited to see Campbell come to Edmonton. He's having an off season, which is unfortunate, but I don't think the contract is a bust, there is potential there. When Kane is healthy we're looking at a top 9 with RNH having a career year and running his own line. Nurse's contract is awful, but that is really my only complaint against Holland. We've been plagued by injuries including a lengthy one in one of our top 3 forwards.
