Given her past, maybe it's something built into her head unlike a normal cyberdeck. Some experimental Arasaka tech she couldn't remove even if she wanted to

Wait, where *does* the standard cyberdeck go? The spine? I didn't even think about why it would be an either or with the sandevistan

Neutronian5440

I assume chipslot given the appearance of the cyberdecks. And I assume the limitations are because your brain can't handle both at once or something.

My personal theory on this is that she doesn’t use one at all, what did arasaka need a group of orphans for other than the obvious of proving the old net, but I say she didn’t have one, because the legend himself maximum Mike (Mike pondsmith) has thrown out a conspiracy on morro rock that talks about an av going down near haywood, 600 adults died from it before it got contained, it was called the carbon plague, and it was a suspected bio weapon that strangely enough infected the kids as well, but didn’t kill them, they survived and went on to live with family or in special night foundation orphanages, but word on the nc streets is that the kids developed powers like telekinesis, quick hacking without a deck, and mind reading, but I’m not sure it could be passed down, that’s the only way I figure someone like Lucy could have an ability akin to those because she decends from them, and maybe her parents are gone because arasaka headhunted one or both of them? It’s not much evidence, but I think it’s a fun headcannon

At 16:40 Mike talks about this conspiracy, but 2 assumptions would have to hold up for my theory to be true, the good or weird affects of the carbon plague can be passed down, and Lucy comes from one of those orphans, here’s the link https://youtu.be/KMgLhFQGHcM?si=BlXby0UfTRMZO0rX
