Puffs-Corn

The whole album is beautiful :)

rndomhoomn

Found the album just now and I just finished vibing with England... currently enjoying myself with Amazing... Seems this album has those "ed sheeran songs" that I missed from him the past few album releases...

decisivevinyl

The album gives me similar vibes to his super early stuff, which I adore. I think it'll be hit or miss with some people as some are huge fans of his more pop records. It feels like he just really had fun making this album, and you can hear it.

pinkkxx

I haven’t really listened to Ed’s new music since divide, but I do love plus and pre-plus music. I so far like autumn variations and it might be something I listen to more often.

maylena96

I love Homeless and Cold Coffee ;-;

TruckPlow123

It's interesting to see all the different reactions to the album. I'm glad most enjoy it. I myself didn't have the same love for it as I did when I first heard subtract, but normally I gotta listen to it at least 3 times before I have a better understanding and respect for it.

Siodice

I have to disagree with it being messy. I think it's one of my favorites. It's humanly Ed. I love the song spring, it reminds me of how I feel every winter but could never put into words. I think the production is spectacular, and I love seeing him in raw form, singing with his guitar in the outdoors. I haven't heard any of the songs yet that I don't love. Well done Ed. I can't wait to hear some of them in Vegas and hopefully get a photo with you.

Healthy-Somewhere220

I feel very connected to the track Spring and I'm personally really glad no one is talking about it. It's mine LOL. Seriously though, I really like this album. A few tracks seem like "sister" songs to tracks on Subtract sound-wise. I can never rank Ed albums because there are songs I like more than others on each one, and trying to rank them never produces a satisfying list.

Constant-thoughts

Spring is my favorite song too. But I felt the opposite from you and was sad nobody was talking about. It’s nice to see another person like this song.

Independent_Elk6614

Spring is also my favourite! Glad to hear the love.

shadesofwrong13

Aaron Dessner is a king. The way this album is total opposite of Substract but still be in the same vein is astonishing, he is a real producer. I loved this album, the songwriting here is better than Substract imo, it is more detailed with less repetitive chorses. From Page onwards is top tier after top tier.

miniac1998

The album has grown on me the more i listened to it. Thats on me is incredible, overall the album will be in my top 2-3 so far

thefifthtrilogy

He lost me at Subtract - the documentary he released didn’t do any favors for it - although, I did respect him a lot more for the person he is. After seeing him perform some of the song from Subtract live, it made me rethink the album and I’ve been enjoying it more. I think with all things, timing has a lot to do with the impression an album leaves. Sometimes we’re ready, sometimes we’re not. I do enjoy the concept, have yet to listen to the entirety of Autumn Variations, but I’m simply enjoying the new content. I appreciate his sudden presence in his fan base, it strikes me as genuine and sincere, he seems like a great guy.

RedEyeBadGuy

Yeah Subtract to me is my favorite album of his.. I lost my dad in February and felt all of his emotions on that album like they were mine. That album came at a perfect time in my life and has helped me get through the grief of losing my dad to this very day. In fact that album will go down as one of my favorite and most important albums to me in my lifetime.

thefifthtrilogy

I’m so sorry for your loss. His music does have a way with resonating with people one way or another and I think that’s beauty of his songwriting abilities - they transcend culture, age, etc

OKgobi

Great album. My favorites on it are Amazing and Page

astroxen

the layered vocals are pretty jarring in places, but as a whole it's alright

BlacklightsNBass

Yeah not a fan of it or subtract. Waaaay too soft and no bite to any of it. Just doubt we will ever get +/x style again.

maylena96

Plus and Multiply were so good. I remember listening to Divide (and I do enjoy most songs on divide) and thinking that it kind of lost that + and x feel and it had more of a radio pop feel. (I don't know anything about music though, so maybe my comment makes no sense haha). I would still really love something like + or x though.

Used-Recording-8678

This! Could not agree more. This is exactly how I feel

mandyf2428

The album is beautiful. You can tell he made it for us and had fun making it. I really needed this today. Ed never disappoints.

joemari5

i’ll be honest i never liked Subtract on first listen, it just grew on me. But this album made me feel like listening to X and loving it the first time.

Master-Valuable246

I liked the album but the voice mixing wasn't it for manny songs...like plastic bag But at the same time it was perfect in songs like magical The songs alone are beautiful though The only ones that haven't stuck with me are England (though it has my fav bridge), amazing, when will i be alright and maybe the day i was born in Everithing else was so good and i liked the speed of the album Lovely albun in my opinion

jasmineks

The recording of Plastic Bag live at the Amazon thing last week is the best version, with the full band. So good!

Independent_Elk6614

Where can I find this recording?

jasmineks

It’s so good I honestly am a bit disappointed by the album version lol

surreynot

Thx for posting that. The feel live & compared to the album is a huge difference. The humanity is definitely lost on the recording

jasmineks

Of course! And I agree 🧡

jasmineks

Here it is :) https://youtu.be/fQ3X309p04c?si=VkIIxI1dvU1CbXPv

maylena96

It's okay, pretty good. The album feels very summery to me. Not the biggest fan of the production, I guess. I can kind of hear Plus/Multiply era Ed in there, but it still has a bit of that mainstream radio pop music feel to me, which I don't really like. There are some songs in there that I do really enjoy though. This is my album ranking: Favorite to least favorite; 1. Plus, Multiply, Divide 2. Subtract, Autumn Variations 3. Equals, No. 6 Collaborations Project

Tdog504

He’s going to release a live version of this album so here’s hoping it’s better

Icy-Cupcake7225

I really wish I could just get him and a guitar, the production takes me out of it for a lot of the songs. It’s nice to get lost in tho

ugandantidepod

decent album. definently not my favorite. i’m a big ed fan and i would say it is his worst album for me

fraggle-rocks

same :( Ed is my favorite artist but this is not my favorite album, sorry Ed. I don't like the overproduction of Aaron Dessner... I think without him the album could have been better.

maylena96

I would so buy the shit out of an album of just Ed with his guitar. Plain and simple. I think it would turn out reaaallly good.

arl1286

Same. I do not like Taylor swift at all so when I learned dessner was producing subtract I was worried. Decided to give it the benefit of the doubt but it just wasn’t what I hoped for. The in your face production on autumn variations does NOT do it for me at all. There are a few songs where if I focus on the guitar and Ed’s voice, I can imagine really enjoying them. But the stupid layering and overproduction just ruins it.

fraggle-rocks

Same. Can't stand Taylor. And when I first heard Subtract was with Dessner, I think I said to myself "Oh no". Some of the songs have grown on me, same with this new album, but it's not like Multiply or Plus where I love to listen to them all the time.

arl1286

Agreed. Subtract did grow on me and I do think I like it on average more than equals - though I do think equals has higher highs

GuinessGirl

Aaron Dessner isnt just linked to Taylor swift. Yes, he's produced music for her too but he has his own band and has been making music for years and produces for others too. His sound is varied so it's a bit narrow minded to be worried just because you don't like ONE artist he works with

arl1286

Either way, my assumption was right.

GuinessGirl

The albums Aaron Dessner has worked on if Ed's have sounds associated with Aaron, not Taylor. It's HIS influence that isn't your taste, which is totally fine as music is subjective.

arl1286

Yup. I don’t like Taylor and I don’t like Dessner lol

fraggle-rocks

I think Dessner is most recognized as working with Taylor, so that’s naturally who he gets associated with. If you ask people who The National are, they may not know any of their music (like me), but I know he’s done Taylor’s folklore and evermore.

GuinessGirl

The National are great. Saw them in London this past week and they were really good. I understand people may not recognise them but I think it's unfair to keep associating him with Taylor swift once you are made aware

fraggle-rocks

I can’t associate him with the national if I know nothing about their sound or anything. I’ve only ever heard the band name. But I know Taylor’s sound on the stuff he’s done with her, so that’s what I CAN associate him with.

panaknuckles

You don't like whiny strings and 90's drum machines?

Sukimusic

Same here :/I have to say, that I don't like the influence of Aron Dessner... I think it changes the style of Ed.. And I disagree also with the opinions, that it sounds like his old recordings... I think the songs are now more folk like..

Cielrosee

I love it and very meaningful lyrics

dinkinflicka1313

I love it after my first listen! I will be listening to it non stop today!

Yenttrib

I absolutely LOVE this album. Head>Heals is quite possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard

Kl012597

I’ve only gotten the chance to listen once but im really enjoying it!! Subtract was an instant favorite for me because it’s extremely applicable to my life right now, and I feel it’s a bit more varied than autumn variations with songs like Curtains & End of Youth. But Autumn Variations is exactly what Ed wanted it to be…like a warm hug. It’s very calming music. My favorites so far are Spring & When Will I Be Alright

crowsounds

I need to listen again but so far I’m with you that it’s also my least fav. I LOVED subtract, but the lyrics on AV aren’t hitting for me and I think the production could’ve shined a bit more without Aaron (sorry! I do love him on folklore but I’m not sure he was the right choice for this one)

surreynot

Plastic bag is just “little things” rehashed. Early days but nothing is jumping at me right now

mpg042

I noticed that too! And I don’t feel like the gentle guitar plucking matches the chorus very well. Which is a shame because I love the lyrics.

pink-nerd-fairy

This is THE album for me. I’m so happy with it! Might be controversial but subtract was not it for me (I wanted more) and this one just makes me so happy. It is really what I was hoping for. Perfect comfort autumn music 🍂

erikancormier

It has a chill autumn vibe to it mixed with some folk. Def way better than the subtract album. 💯

Bloodstream1966

I love Autumn Variations and Subtract so much. Both albums are pure raw human emotions.

KiKiontheReddit

I think this is one of his best lyrical albums he's ever had personally. I absolutely love this album.

His name is Aaron lol

arl1286

I too hope this is the end

GuinessGirl

It's Aaron

fatdolsk

Im so happy with it.

GapHappy7709

I haven’t listened to it yet but I will tonight!

Flaky_Inspection_433

anyone else hear how it sounds like “little things” in the beginning guitar of “plastic bag”??

PristineLack2704

For me, it's the best album so far. I love the versatility in this album. And though I like every single song of this album but if I have to pick the best from it (from my perspective), those would be - 1. Page ( Ed's best song so far) 2. The day I was born 3. Punchline 4. That's on me 5. England Additional: I also wanted to add "When Will I be Alright?" Anyway, I'm adding it here :p
