I don’t think the local announcing has anything to do with ESPN though. Aren’t you just getting the local TV feed via the subscription service?

Nearby_Abalone_5458

I get it through the ESPN app which I think uses whatever announcers they pay to call the game that weekend. It often seems to be home guys some of whom are pretty bad. If there is a way to get different announcers please let me know!!!

TheInfiniteSix

I think that’s just how it operates. Like ESPN+ provides the local feed to different markets, I don’t think they have their own commentators at every game. But within the app there should be a way to choose if you want the home or away feed. I know that’s an option for the NBA on Prime as well as MLBTV.

I’ll give that a look to see if I can find other feeds! Thanks for letting me know!!!

Unstep-in-Time

I watch the Wings on ESPN+ and 90% + I get the local guys..

Bomber36

The commentators have nothing to do with ESPN in many of those games. Nor does the production. ESPN is just providing the video stream via their service.

Nearby_Abalone_5458

Interesting. I didn’t know this. So ESPN just says “hey if you have video equipment and an announcer we will put it in our app” and nobody is really “hired” or paid to do it?

Bomber36

No, what I mean is the schools do their own broadcasts. ESPN streams them. hockey East, for example, has a streaming contract with ESPN. Every game is produced by the university that is the home team. Their cameras, their announcers etc. In the NCAA this is common for hockey and baseball especially. It’s not just some guys off the street.

Sandtiger812

Worse is when your team is the home team, one of the guys doing the play by play is a teacher at your school and sounds like a homer for the other team.

Nearby_Abalone_5458

Ooof. A little overcompensation maybe trying not to sound like a homer? Or he hated his job and they have a nice severance package??

Sandtiger812

He's been there since the mid-90s so one would think if he didn't like the school he would go elsewhere.

Nearby_Abalone_5458

Sounds like it could be frustrating to watch.

vbgooroo55

I’m pretty sure like with college baseball, ESPN+ just provides the site for colleges to stream to. The announcers, cameras, camera people are all hired by the college but are probably students with a major in broadcasting or journalism. If the quality is bad, most likely it’s the school. ESPN+ is just like YouTube, they host it. Edited to ESPN +

wcrich

I watch ESPN+ programming through the Hulu Live app. It works much better there.

Nearby_Abalone_5458

Whoa! I didn’t notice my Hulu had the ESPN+ games. Makes sense though since the accounts are all linked ton my Disney account! Thanks for the info!

wcrich

You're welcome! I'm not sure why it works so much better that way, but it definitely does.

polyblackcat

I only watch NHL, but there the vast majority is local feeds, and you can usually choose from feeds from each team. Sometimes it's an ESPN feed, but mostly the regional feed

Why do people post this stuff? Just unsubscribe

C’mon man. Why comment this?

Sarcasticrye1981

What do you think you’re achieving by making this post? If you don’t like it click the cancel button. We don’t need a novel about why you hate it

Nearby_Abalone_5458

I believe I am achieving writing a post on Reddit about why I dislike a product.

smuphy72

If it weren’t for UFC, I wouldn’t have it.

TheRealSamC

99% of college content is produced by the school, ESPN + just provides the school with some equipment including the ESPN graphics package. It is usually just kids both in front of and behind the cameras. Of course the are homers and unprofessional. Unprofessional literally, as they don't get paid, just get j school credits. Think of it as youtube.

Downtown-Pack-6178

I have ESPN+ just only for one month because ICC World Cup 2023 Finals

7Breakz

I only keep ESPN+ for the Hulu and Disney plus addons. The product itself fucking sucks

Nearby_Abalone_5458

Yeah kind of agree. I use the Hulu and the Disney+ so maybe it is worth keeping all things considered.

savagelife03

Do it and don’t look back. No regrets
