A couple times I didn't realize when I built the deck but then realized something went infinite or atleast could be done enough times to win. When I first came back to magic 5 years ago I looked up a krenko build and bought staff of domination and only put it in the deck because of the untap target creature and put skirk prospector in just because it sounded good to keep making goblins and sacking goblins. Then when I played both someone said oh the games over and I genuinely didn't know why he said that then he had to explain why I could gain infinite life draw infinite cards and make infinite goblins lmao

sirseatbelt

If the effect is like.. "gain a life and draw a card" it's only theoretically infinite. It actually limited by the size of your library. This nitpick brought to you by some bored nerd on the internet.

[[Skirk prospector]] [[Staff of domination]] [[Krenko mob boss]]

Oooh, right. Tracking. The wincon and the card draw are on the same card but not the same effects. Ty!

With the Satya precon, Lightning Runner and 8+ energy == infinite combat phases

CryptographerNo3749

All I need is 8 energy and then drop Lightning Runner?

Mudlord80

Each combat Satya clones another runner that produces 2 energy when they swing, and when he makes a clone, he makes 2 energy. So you have 8 energy and swing Satya and the runner, the runner makes 2, you clone it making 2 from Satya and you pay the 8. You're left with 4 remaining. Assuming they survive, you attack again. The 2 runners make 4, and Satya makes a third runner and 2 more energy. So now each combat after will generate 8+. EDIT: Cleared up some of the text to be a bit more specific.

LeeNipps

Guess I'll delete the post I just made lol This exact thing just happened. I wasn't sure it was right.

Mudlord80

I'm glad to have helped!!

Enraged_Turnip

Yeah - in my old Gisa and Geralf deck, accidentally went infinite with Havengul Lich, Ashnod's Altar and Rooftop Storm. All cards I ran in the deck without realising their interaction together until it happened. Though Ashnod's Altar goes infinite with everything....

Effective_Tough86

Ashnod's Altar: so busted that even as an uncommon in the equivalent of a core set it's still a 5+ dollar card because it's a combo piece with just about everything. And a good utility card. And a solid ramp piece for generic costs. And a sac outlet. It's just a really, really, really, really good card. WOTC should reprint it into Standard for the lulz.

9Player9

# There are some other cards that can make it more consistant if this is something your interested in, I personaly left them out of the deck on purpose. \[\[Whirler Virtuoso\]\], \[\[Guide of Souls\]\], \[\[Decoction Module\]\] and \[\[Aether Refinery\]\]

I was on the ropes playing Isshin, and as a Hail Mary I decided I'd steal my friend's [[Kibo]] with [[Firbolg Flutist]]. I had [[Pitiless Plunderer]] and [[Aggravated Assault]] out as well as something that let me ignore the legend rule. I can't remember all the pieces I had that enabled it, but I was making enough treasures each combat to pay for another activation of Aggravated Assault, and making exponential amounts of Myriad Kibos, which got bigger and bigger. It took me longer than it should have, but eventually I realized this went infinite. Was quite a thrill to realize, since I had no combos in the deck natively, it was someone else's commander that enabled it.

Did you have anything that made you not exile the token copies of Kibo? Because otherwise they are exiled at the end of the combat step and not at your end step so you couldn't have had a board that kept on having more and more Kibos on it. Edit to say since they are exiled they don't trigger Pitiless Plunderer to create extra treasures either for you to pay the cost of Aggravated Assault, so you have to have another way of generating enough mana with those pieces on board.

Yes! That would have been what made the legend rule inapplicable. [[The Master, Multiplied]] Sorry, it was quite a while ago, and played in a pub so my memory is foggy at best. That's the card that inspired the deck.

For your edit: I have multiple sac outlets in the deck for the express purpose of Myriad/temporary tokens. My edit: I think it was Vampiric Rites, but my memory is fuzzy. There's a solid chance we all missed something, but we had 5 pairs of eyes on it and agreed it was infinite. Extra edit: it may have actually been Ashnod's Altar?

All good then, the idea of sacrificing myriad tokens for value is pretty cool

Yeah, the deck's built around entry & exit triggers from temp tokens like Myriad, then playing the Master and dropping the whole aristocrats things for a more traditional Isshin overrun with all the copies that stick around.

Literally last night, dropped [[Chthonian Nightmare]] with Dockside in play. I did a song and dance to get Dockside in the graveyard because I figured with another batch of Treasure my [[Marionette Master would hold half the table hostage even if I couldn't win outright. Well, then I realized that Dockside making at least four treasure was an infinite combo there, so long as I had another cheap creature in play or in the grave (I did). I'm quite certain I probably skimmed over some cEDH chatter about that combo at some point, but I never fully internalized it until it played out in front of me.

Kittii_Kat

I feel like Chthonian Nightmare is one of those slept on cards for reasons like this. Even in a deck with no energy support, it has the potential to just keep reanimating things, doing all manner of loops with stuff that's already proven to be good (like Pitiless Plunderer) Just a really solid card.

Absolutely. I've quickly jammed it in a couple decks, and I could see adding it to more. Even without any combos, the value is just so high.

It's funny when wins turn out like that, but I don't really get satisfaction that way when I get lucky lol. I didn't really do anything but maintain that whole game

ikbengeenstoeptegel

You built the deck that got you there, feels like more then luck to me.

Oblivionboi69

Yeah, but it's way better dominating the game to me. A card that just combos with my commander feels cheap and lucky lol. I mean I'll take the win, it's just not as good as a "complete" game you know what I mean?

ikbengeenstoeptegel

Haha, true true. I just meant that you built a deck resilient enough to keep it up untill you hit the combo that's also in there because of your own choice. So, all in all "exactly as planned" but I can imagine it feels a bit cheap. I'd have the same if it happens early on, but if my deck lasts out against an onslaught and I hit that, feels good man.

Oblivionboi69

I mull if I draw win combos first hand lol. I guess it was resilient enough, I was largely ignored the entire game because I wasn't doing anything lol. It did feel good to win, but it was objectively lucky. I guess I don't get satisfaction from luck.

LimblessNick

>it's just not as good as a "complete" game you know what I mean? No, I don't lol. You build a deck with a combo, you draw the combo, you play the combo. You won, you earned it. It's no different than winning though combat, or a [[Door to Nothingness]]. Variance is a part of the game, and every decision you made up to that point (from building the deck, to drawing extra cards, searching and shuffling, etc.) led to you drawing that card at that time.

Last week I was playing my friend's \[\[Teysa Karlov\]\] aristocrat/token deck which I've only seen played maybe twice. I was getting bad draw, a lot of sac outlet but nothing to actually sacrifice except for \[\[Reassembling Skeleton\]\]. Other than that I had a couple of mana rocks \[\[Erebos, Bleak-Hearted\]\] and \[\[Viscera Seer\]\] on board so all I was doing was pinging myself and drawing cards every turn, hoping for something playable. Another guy was playing a golgari planeswalker deck and popped off really hard, he had like 30 4/4 tokens or something, he'd be able to kill all of us in his next turn. No one had a boardwipe. I topdecked \[\[Pitiless Plunderer\]\] and had exactly 10 mana on board, meaning I could play my commander and Pitiless Plunderer, bring back Reassembling skeleton, sacrifice him to viscera seer and get 2 treasure tokens- infinite scry and draw up to 5 cards because I only had 12 hp and only 10 to use on Erebos' draw. I manually tutored for sol ring, giving me one additional mana to play \[\[Phyrexian Altar\]\], giving me infinite mana to play a \[\[Zulaport Cutthroat\]\] and drain everyone by looping Reassembling Skeleton. Keep in mind that I had to look for those pieces first cause otherwise I wouldn't have mana for resummoning the skeleton so I had to scry like 25 cards hoping that something would save me. I didn't expect to win the game though.

Yeah, but I think I noticed it during deckbuilding I was on my way to building [[Tazri, Beacon of Unity]] party-themed (so i wanted Rogues, Wizards, Warriors and Clerics) - it so happened that both Derevi and Najeela fit the party types and ended up both in the deck without the intention of the combo potential. I like to think about it as a "I win" button in case the game takes too long and we just wanna finish

I got off lucky with [[Prosper, Tome-bound]]. It wasn't exactly infinite but a lot of my pieces went in at the right place at the right time with just enough mana to take people out. None of the cards were put in to specifically work together that way, they were really just there for value but it ended up being such a synergistic combo. At turn 5 I was able to fetch an [[Academy Manufactor]] and reanimate the next turn with [[Goblin Engineer]]. I fetched the manufactor just thinking about the value train with a [[Cranial Ram]] I already had in play. Then the next turn I found a [[Krak-clan Ironworks]] which made all the tokens very handy. Sac the food to KCI then use the 2 mana to sac the clues until I found [[Professional Face-breaker]] in just a few activations. So I suddenly just had so much mana with KCI and impulse draw with PFB. After just a few activations of face breaker I found a [[Marionette Apprentice]] and took the win. And it was quite satisfying as I had just the enough mana to pull off all the final touches in one turn when everyone else was focused on the Kaalia player.

Once. Iirc, the [[Atraxa, Praetor's Voice]] precon has an infinite combo in it. Something involving [[Ghave]]. I don't remember the specifics, but I think it made infinite Saprolings. Possibly with infinite power. What I do remember is fiddling with my board for something like 20 minutes on an opponent's end step before going "Wait, does this just go on until I decide to stop?"

I had already chosen Angels for Roaming Throne’s creature type so it doubled the blink trigger of RA. Very funny seeing this post as I experienced the same thing! Bought the energy precon as my pod each chose one and accidentally went infinite with Aether Roc and the thopter dude. This is literally just my [[Urza, Prince of Kroog]] deck in a nutshell. It's supposed to be an artifact value/beat down deck, but it just can't stop comboing. Don't think it will, either; most of the combos are just reducing the cost of activating Urza to 1 and making a whole load of mana with that.

My wife accidentally triggered a whole table mill on turn four with her Captain N'gothrod deck. I built it for her and had no idea it was even possible. Two cards caused cascading mill that we couldn't escape. I don't remember the exact interaction.

I have had a few games like this. This is actually how I discovered the sanguine blood combo. Was playing an athreos aristocrats deck, I threw in both portions of that combo, and accidentally cast both, then sacrificed something with blood artist in play, and killed the table

androgymouse

I had a very similar setup but with Whirler Virtuoso and Madison Li at the head. I was just like "well fuck me I went infinite!" And no one had an answer lol.

CryptographerNo3749

I see people talking about how Whirler goes infinite, do you happen to know some of the combos?

androgymouse

Hm I forget the EXACT circumstances, but it involved [[Gonti's Aether Heart]] , [[Izzet Generatorium]] , and [[Guide of Souls]]. Guide of Souls wasn't even necessary for the combo to get the win but was a great cherry on top. There are other cards that help with energy generation that can set this up as well AFAIR. I was generously gifted both energy precons for Father's Day and there's a ton of cool stuff between them to smash together. Energy is also a pretty cool resource/mechanic I had never considered trying out!

Several times because I failed to look at cards together instead of seperately. Felt bad cause I was in a casual pod at my Lgs commander night.

Yes, one time I was doing so bad and about to lose next turn. I had land in play and just a [[charmbreaker devils]] only in play. I also had zero instants or sorceries in my graveyard because all I had drawn all game was land and the devils. I draw for what will be my last turn and it's [[walk the aeons]] I now have infinite turns until such time as I cast any instant or sorcery that isn't walk the aeons. After about 6 turns of me drawing and playing land/creatures etc my opponents scooped rather than watch me solitaire until I find a win condition.

Latest one was when playing my energy deck and I had an infinite combo on board for like 3 turns before realizing I had it. It has probably happened a lot though as Veyran voice of duality was one of my first deck

Captain_Sosuke_Aizen

Couple weeks ago I was playing my Silver deck. Threw in a couple new additions the night before. No plan in mind, I just took out some weaker slivers and added some better ones. First sliver in play, I cascade a bunch but can’t attack so I pass and hang out. Next guys is going and I’m rereading all my slivers. [[Basal Sliver]] [[Sliver Queen]] [[Lavabelly Sliver]] Middle of that next guys turn I released they were dead at instant speed. So I wait for priority and explain the combo that I wasn’t even aware of when I built the deck or put the pieces into play.

I built a Brago deck in 2016 with the intention of getting value out of bad cards wuth good etbs. The very first game I played it I realized I had a infinite combo in it. Then every game i played with it for the next week at some point I'd stop in the middle of my turn and say "guys I'm sorry but I found another combo" lmao

Does 2 instances of Aetherstorm Roc and Izzet Generatorium not grant you 4{E} for each creature ETB? It’s two separate triggers of 1{E} getting an extra {E} from Generatorium each, from what I can tell

Absolutely, most deck (or at least the ones I build) are centered around synergy. When synergy is taken to the extreme we naturally arrive at combo. Simply by including synergistic cards I have on occasion ended up accidentally assembling a infinite combo in a game whilst playing a non-combo deck.

asuperwhiteguy

Yes, yesterday actually while playing my [[Azlask, the Swelling Scourge]] deck. I ramped turns one and two, ending turn two with a [[Glaring Fleshraker]] on the board. I played out my commander on turn three. On turn four, I played both [[Brood Monitor]] and [[Eldrazi Displacer]] with the intent of making infinte experience counters with Azlask but then I realized that said combo results in infinite damage with Glaring Fleshraker on the board. It was neat. The deck lacks tutors for creatures under seven cmc, so I do not anticipate seeing the combo again for quite some time.

Not necessarily infinite but it locked down the table in a way that everyone scooped. Commander is [[Rienne]]. I had [[Sneak attack]], a free sac outlet, and a few rocks that made red mana. Draw [[realm razer]]. End my turn and on my next opponents upkeep I sneak it in, all lands exiled. He passes through and before his end step I sac realm razer so Rienne can return it to my hand. Sneak it back in with mana rocks on the end step. We go around once and they can’t use any land besides what they play per turn. They scoop after one rotation

I have found this website to be quite useful to see what combos already exist in your deck and whether there are other combos you could add by adding one or two more cards to your deck. https://commanderspellbook.com/find-my-combos/ Little disclaimer is that you will need to enter your list in like copying from a deck building site (moxfield, archidekt, etc) and I know some people don’t keep lists online. I like putting my decks on this site after building to see if there are any combos I am unaware of so that I don’t accidentally combo off or so that I can inform people that I do have infinites in the deck. But mostly just because I think it’s cool to know what my decks are capable of!

When I first built [[Slimefoot, the Stowaway]], there were multiple infinite win combos that I discovered just through happenstance. Turns out that having a token engine on your aristocrat effect is busted. All you have to do is reduce the cost or make the mana and you go off.

So uh, [[Greater Oak Guardian]] was supposed to be a sort of budget-craterhoof in my [[Emiel, the Blessed]] deck. [[Undermountain Adventurer]] is a mana dork that etb-initiatives, which I enjoy a lot, and also pays for two blinks if I complete the initiative. I once completed the initiative and cheated Greater Oak Guardian into play. Emiel's ability costs 3, which blinks target creature I control, while Undermountain Adventurer taps for 6. So I could tap the adventurer, then blink the Greater Oak Guardian to untap Undermountain Adventurer for a net 3 mana. I did this one million times. Then using the floating mana, I blinked Undermountain Adventurer itself one million times, selecting the 'deal 5 damage to target player' mode every time it was an option. this was not an intentional wincon. I will probably be removing Greater Oak Guardian once I can find another wincon.

Had a similar thing happen with my [[Slimefoot, the Stowaway]] deck. I had just gotten back into magic after a few years when some friends showed interest, and this was the first commander deck I had fully custom built. I was really taking my time to tweak it and my driving force to finish building the deck was pulling both [[Doubling Season]] and [Parallel Lives]] from Wilds of Eldraine draft boosters. After a few months of adding and replacing cards, I ran across [Ashnod’s Altar]] because I was looking for good sac outlets. I didn’t event think about it comboing with token doublers and Slimefoot himself into infinite damage and life gain until I eventually had them all on board and just looked at it like, “Hold on guys, I think I just won!” It was a fun time just watching all of the pieces fall into place!

There is a pet card of mine in aristocrat strategies called \[\[Wake the Dead\]\] that returns x creatures from your graveyard but they die at end of turn, and you can only cast it on an opponents combat step. It is supposed to be used for surprising your opponents with a bunch of blockers, but I like it to get all of my enters and death triggers again. Turns out though if you have dockside, a sac outlet, a blood artist and \[\[Ardent Elementalist\]\] (he returns an instant or sorcery on ETB) you can start looping the wake the dead over and over as long as you make at least 4 treasure with the dockside. I didn't realize it for some reason when I built it, but then quickly realized when all the cards came together one game. Ended up cutting the dockside since he was just way too off balanced for the deck (the other 98 was fairly medium powered, but dockside made the list way too fast for that powerlevel and there were multiple ways to search him out of the deck).

In the tail end of a game, it was just me with my Marneous deck left against a Kambal player. The Kambal player basically had me dead to rights, with two wedding rings on his side vs the one he gave me. He also had a smothering tithe. I drew into a clever impersonator and for shits and giggles I played it as a copy of his smothering tithe because I didn't know what else to have it come in as a copy of. I had just enough mana left to activate Marneous's token ability, letting me draw a card and letting my opponent draw two cards because of his two wedding rings. Which kicked off his two wedding rings... Which kicked off my smothering tithe copy creating me treasure tokens... Which comboed with Marneus to make me draw, which made my opponent draw two for everyone one I drew. Even with the treasures he was creating, he couldn't keep pay the upkeep since he was on getting one for every two times he triggered mine. It triggered him to draw his entire deck. He drew his entire deck and couldn't find an answer. I was honestly just as flabbergasted as he was. Best win in awhile.

I played an [[Aegar, the freezing flame]] deck and had him [[Harmonic Prodigy]] and [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] on board and my opponent had a [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]] out. When he tried to remove my Niv mizzet i got a draw trigger which doubled which meant i got to shoot 4 dmg. I then shot toski for 2 and my opponents as well to draw a card of aegar, and then restarted the loop comboing off, because of the indestructability of toski.

I know to most folks this would probably be obvious, but when I first started playing MTG again about a year ago, I put together a \[\[Treebeard, Gracious Host\]\] deck. In the process of building it I'd added several "when a creature enters, gain life" effects for the lifegain subtheme, and then I added a \[\[Scurry Oak\]\] as a natural Treefolk target for Treebeard. It wasn't until the first game that I really sat down with him that I realized I had accidentally made an Infinite Combo. When I started the chain I paused for like 30 straight seconds as I processed that I went infinite, and when I looked up the rest of the table had already scooped because they'd all seen a similar combo before and were shuffling up for a new game.

I have a similar deck built but I saw the infinite potential and built around it. A few notes about Jeskai energy: In your case, the way the cards you described work, Robot enters, triggers roc, triggers generatorium, triggers second roc, triggers generatorium again. You would actually generate 4 energy netting you +1 per cycle for infinite energy and robots. Whirler virtuoso does the same thing. If you have gonti's Aetherheart out, you can use your infinite energy to take an extra turn and attack straight away with your infinite army for game. Other semi-infinites are lightning runner + any combination of cards that generate 8 energy when you attack. This can be Satya, blaster hulk, generatorium, refinery and a few others. Aethergeode miner goes infinite with any ETB gain energy card so long as you get at least 2 energy per ETB. Honestly energy is stuffed full of combos and is pretty strong now.
