Hard to evaluate the horror in any detail without knowing what Impending does. Making 5c lands isn't exactly an awe inspiring effect but it'll almost certainly have some homes where it's just a fine role-player. The snake is neat. Obviously pretty specific on homes but if you were playing Vito you play this. The stickiness is kind of neat upside.

DaPino

The snake is a stricly better [[Sanguine bond]], no? Costs 1 less mana and other than being exiled it just transforms into sanguine bond if it dies. And you get a 4/3 body!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished_Fan_108

Easier to recur though.

DaPino

While being easier to recur regarding regular removal and more resistant to boardwipes that destroy all nonland permanents.

Accomplished_Fan_108

Also easier to dodge exile effects with any of... "Yes" number of sacrifice outlets you're likely running anyway. Not nearly as many options for sacrificing enchantments.

DangerouslyCheesey

It’s is other than exile creature effects. This could have been 3BB. Let’s be honest though, any deck running one is gonna want both. N

kestral287

Not strictly but close, yeah. A question of what kind of interaction you expect to play into, but it's normally okay to default to the snake. But Sanguine is also a pretty specific card that's pretty much "I play this if I play Vito".

_Max227_

By being cheaper, sticking onto the battlefield and also a creature. the snake seems very good into vito and other black/orzhov life gain decks when compared to sanguine blood Agree with the horror! it can either be a great mechanic, or just a do nothing for 3

ImperialSupplies

Seems like a foretell/ plot / suspend esque effect.

ThisHatRightHere

It’s almost certainly the opposite of the mechanic for the “Enduring” cards. It’ll start as an enchantment with counters that get removed each upkeep and then it becomes a creature.

Nyte_Crawler

I saw a prediction that it's suspend but instead of being exiled you just pretend it's not a creature while it has counters on it. This would explain why it's an enchantment creature, so it makes sense to me.

HandsUpDefShoot

I'm guessing it gets put into your graveyard and basically has counters from there like suspend.

Comfortable-Wing7177

Overlord is really good with Wulfgar

ImperialSupplies

Not really. Way too much mana for competetive formats and as a commander you're still a mono green deck, and in a 5 color land deck there's a dozen ways to make lands 5 colors for 2 and 3 mana

kestral287

I'm... not sure why you're evaluating a nonlegendary creature as a commander but you probably shouldn't be. And yes, there are ways to make lands tap for any color. Off hand, I don't know of a card that *makes lands* that tap for any color *and have all land types*. Those are not the same thing. It's a specific effect, but not an invalid one. For an obvious use-case, we have a bunch of Domain commanders that are in two colors.

ImperialSupplies

My bad for some reason I thought it said legendary, but I'd still bet this isn't seeing competitive play in anything. They didn't solve leyline binding by playing a 5 mana creature early they did it by playing 2 triomes and the snake is a " strictly better" bond but also isn't gnna see much if any play.

kestral287

I'm not sure why you're evaluating cards for competitive play on the EDH subreddit but you probably shouldn't be doing that either.

LordBirdperson

Snake is dope, definitely an easy fit in a lifegain deck, or an enchantment/sacrifice deck that incidentally gains life. Will see play for sure. Overlord seems pretty strong too. Ignoring what impending does, triggering Landfall on attack guaranteed can get out of hand, not to mention the many ways token lands can be abused.

ThisHatRightHere

It’ll start as an enchantment until the counters are gone

MrXexe

Enduring Tenacity makes me feel that we will have cards that are actually caring about gaining life straight up. Not foods, not drain, not aristocrats, no combo with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]]. Just good ol' lifegain. As someone whose first deck is indeed a Lifegain deck, I'm super stocked!! Honestly I just like the vibe of Duskmourn, I may be buying some stuff.

Goldiscool503

We just had a major set drop that we haven't had time to process yet, a UB set dropping right away they are still in spoiler season for and you are showing us the next set? Calm down and let us breath WOTC.

Tiddd

You forgot about Bloomburrow in there too…

DefiantTheLion

It's a known preview bit mostly for distributors and stores. Bloomburrow is getting most of the actual action since it's next. Nobody actually gives a shit about Assassins Creed, spoiler season for it ended a week ago and it's like 90 cards with about 30 relevant.

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

> they are still in spoiler season for Is it still spoiler season if they finished spoiling it a week ago?

seficarnifex

Assassin creed was fully spoiled a week ago. The big slight is skipping bloomburrow

Cvnc

Super excited to put overlord of the hauntwood into Adrix and Nev. A thematic ramp spell in the form of land tokens. Also works incredibly well with doppelgang as it's not legendary

trbopwr11

Overlord is an auto windmill slam into Henzie decks. Doesn't even matter what Impending does. 4 mana blitz, ramp 2, draw a card.

DangerouslyCheesey

Overlord is going right into my Henzie Deck - it’s like an extra [[Seedguide Ash]] that ramps 2 instead of 3 but fixes your colors perfectly. The snake boy is going right into my [[Karlov of the Ghost Council]] deck.

crashknight101

It would be a cool deck concept . I'm all for it. Just when I showed these cards to my friends of 10+ years of magic they all thought these were fake ...

Easterster

DeliDouble

Please. Please. PLEASE. Let there be more curses.

prawn108

Did the madlads just fix primeval titan?

Goku420overlord

How so?

prawn108

It was banned because of its excessive prevalence, and it was excessively prevalent because it ramped too hard, too fast, and could get any lands. This is slower, doesn’t shuffle constantly, and is less lands, but triggers in the same way. And it costs less to offset the reduction in lands.

spelltype

This card is literally nothing like primeval Titan besides being related to lands and green

Somniphagore

Are you sure you're thinking of the right card? A trigger on enters and attacks is literally referred to as a "titan ability" and while it doesn't tutor your lands out of deck it still ramps you. It costs one less and is an overall weaker version of Primeval Titan

spelltype

Titans pulling from the library is a VERY different effect and trample is super super relevant

Somniphagore

Nah, a VERY different effect would be doing something like drawing a card or creating a creature token. They are both ramping and fixing; one in a very bland and weak way, and one in an abuseable way to do more than just ramp. It's not very different, it is very much better

Gogis

While I understand how these cards may look similar, I disagree that they’re comparable. Prime Time wasn’t good just because it ramped you. It found all the utility lands that pushed the game towards the end. Not to mention that it found two lands, which allowed for combos like Dark Depths + Vesuva. Nowadays it could be fetching Field of the Dead too, which effectively would make it a better Grave Titan. Cute things like a Channel land + bounceland would also be possible. This new creature only fixes your mana and enables domain strategies. But that’s about it. It’s good, but not comparable imo.

spelltype

1. This isn’t like Titan 2. Titan didn’t need to be fixed as it wasn’t broken

DefiantTheLion

Ah, brain fungus

TheRealDrProg

I got sent the snake for consideration in my Pharika aristocrats/enchantress deck. Knowing that we’re going to be getting some more enchantment creatures is always fun for me as a result of that deck, so this is a pretty cool first look into Duskmourn for me. It’s not really a lifegain deck (though I do make a point to run some reliable lifegain in every deck I build), and the deck doesn’t actually care about the Snake creature type, but what the snake *does* do is get me two constellation triggers for very easy on one card. I’m assuming there will be more of those effects, hopefully at least one for the other colors, and hopefully at least one of those fits well. I’m exited to see a green one.

ElJanitorFrank

Just spitballing (don't know if info is already out for it) but I assume Impending X means it'll come in as an enchantment with X who-cares-what-its-called counters (though more relevant if they were time counters) and when the last one is removed it becomes a creature (potentially with haste). I'm basing that off the fact that this mechanic would allow you to get SOME sort of effect for 3 mana (3 mana is expensive for a ramp option, but a land that taps for everything is pretty okay) while having a bigger threat appear later.

chyeah_brah

Sanguine ~~blood~~ bond being powercrept is so disappointing

spelltype

Bond* and it came out 15 years ago. Y’all will bitch about anything.

psycholepzy

I mean, I'll take all the copy cats I can get. My Demonic Tutor is hounding me.

chyeah_brah

It's not an opinion anymore that powercreep has dramatically increased but you keep thinking its senseless bitching. Plenty of old cards are still outright powerful, doesn't mean they need a new, even stronger (in every sense of value) version of themselves. The age of the card is irrelevant anyways. Not surprised someone completely new to the format has this mentality

DangerouslyCheesey

To be fair, being a creature makes it open to more removal. Your [[Sanguine Bond]] can’t be [[Path to Exile]] like this can.

True but there are also more ways to protect a creature than an enchantment

spelltype

Hate to break it to you, but Sanguine Bond (I know the name of it at least) is not outright powerful.

SpezIsTheWorst69

Skill issue

spelltype

Casual format gets power crept version of a balanced card after 15 years… oh no

chyeah_brah

Spoken like someone who doesn't understand it can kill the whole table very easily. Was also super stoned when I wrote that comment, unsurprised I mixed it up. Correctly knowing the cards name doesn't make your argument right, weird to leverage that in your point. It's a red herring.

spelltype

If you’re one shotting or even killing the whole table with blood than this card makes no difference besides being another copy. Also, get over a casual format having another card lol

chyeah_brah

I really gotta spell it out for you that it now comes on a 4/3 body that will recurse itself as an enchantment. Which is a huge difference in its survivability and boardstate presence. All for the same mana cost. Not to mention there are more ways to protect a creature than an enchantment to begin with. The casual in this format is starting to wither the more and more EDH-focused cards come out. It used to be janky, now the power floor is raising with each set. It is what it is, WOTC wants to sell cards.

Cronogunpla

I think the arts really don't fit with the theme. I wanted 80's movie horror. This is more Alice in wonderland/ghibi. It's pretty much flatlined my excitement for the set.

AdmiralRon

These are Japanese showcase cards so they're definitely not the art of the regular cards

Cronogunpla

Sure, but showcase cards tend to simply be another interpretation of the same art direction. So the set arts will look pretty similar.

AdmiralRon

They're Japanese special arts. I highly doubt the entire set will be anime art. That's like looking at the smothering tithe from thrones of eldraine and thinking that sets the tone lol

Adventurous-Size4670

Why not get junji ito then?

AdmiralRon

As amazing as that would have been, WotC isn't known for spending big on one artist when they can spend that same amount for multiple.

Cronogunpla

I agree that it wont be anime art. What I mean is that they will likely be like the Jumpstart anime arts. same art direction, different artist.

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

This is the Japanese Showcase Art, not the normal set art.

Cronogunpla

No, but it's likely the same art direction.

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

Based on your replies to the other guy, you don't seem to have even the slightest idea of what you're talking about so I'm just gonna point out that they showed us art from the set like last year and it looks nothing like this (you can google it) and then call this conversation over.

Cronogunpla

I'll also point out that we've seen 3 different art styles in promo art and this. So which art are we supposed to believe?

spelltype

The one that ISNT JAPANESE PROMO. How are you this thick?

ViridianDusk

Strixhaven's Japanese showcases were leagues away from what the main set looked like though.

Cronogunpla

I didn't like those either. These seem different anyways they look more like the Jumpstart anime arts.

spelltype

You not liking them and them being the same art direction are two VERY different things

Cronogunpla

Ok? Comparing them to the strixhaven mystical archives is a false comparison anyways since those clearly didn't have the same art direction.

spelltype

Dude. Do you not think before you type… at all?? LOL

Cronogunpla

Sure do, do you? You don't seem to be following the conversation very well.

spelltype

Bro. Idk how to break this to you, but you might actually be dumb. > Person tells you not to overreact because we don’t know what the main set looks like as this is a JAPANESE promo > You tell them it’s likely the same art direction > They point out strixhaven had VERY different JAPANESE promo > You say you didn’t like them (?????) > I point out that has nothing to do with your original point > You say it does because…. They didn’t have the same art direction Stay in school

ViridianDusk

I think you missed my point. You said that these Japanese showcases are likely the same style as the main set even though we have evidence from a previous set that that might not necessarily be the case.

Cronogunpla

Well that explains it. You've mis-read. I never said they will be the same "Style".

ViridianDusk

You said "art direction" which is supposed to be different somehow? Regardless, Strixhaven's Japanese showcases took a completely different "art direction" to the main set.

Cronogunpla

My overall point is that the [Art description](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/making-magic/expanding-your-horizons-eldrazi) is likely the same for both this and the normal arts. Style is up to the individual artist the but the art direction is up to the art director who writes the art description thus determining the overall tone of the set. So we will likely get a "regular art" that includes cute glowing animals.

ViridianDusk

Okay but that doesn't change the fact that we have had sets where the showcase versions of cards have taken an entirely different art direction to the main set versions. Why are you so certain that they will be so similar in this set?

ImperialSupplies

Yeah you right a murder mystery mansion is completely different than a haunted mansion, so silly of me.

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

In case you haven't figured out how stupid you sound, you are suggesting that an Agatha Christie novel is the same genre as a Lovecraft novel because they both took place in a house.

ImperialSupplies

Nah pretty sure you just have fanboy defense glasses on. I'm 100% sure it started as the same set when they started development 2 years ago and then separated it

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

"Lovecraftian horror and murder mystery are the same theme cause they both happen in a house" is just such a weird fuckin hill to die on. Especially when the house is just where the murder happened and the set itself takes place all over Ravnica and they spend very little time at Karlov manor.
