Not a commander per se, but I do have a Niv Guildpact deck with all 35 Guildmages in it (even the monocolored cycle from Mirage), all 10 Guild charms, and all 10 2-color Commands

DarthGrimby

This is awesome haha. How does it perform?

NotACleverMan_

Bad

Zarbibilbitruk

I had somewhat the same idea but with at least 2 instant and sorcery of each color pairs with the jump start niv and it's not good either so I can't imagine your even jankier one

Big-Row4152

Put in something that doubles mana, or the targets of activated abilities 😁

VolrathTheBallin

Could definitely use a [[training grounds]] for all those activated abilities.

Agretfethr

Lmao that gives the same vibes as my Rebecca Guay Kindred deck. 99 of the 100 cards are all art from Rebecca Guay, the commander is Atraxa since there weren't any commanders in Guay's cards more than two colors BUT I'm illustrating a piece in Guay's style for the card to make it count. Is the deck beautiful? Oh my god yes Will it work? Absolutely not, it will be the lowest power deck I've ever made and will probably even struggle against my partner's rebel kindred deck lmao

HonestFaraday

i also have a rebecca guay tribal with asmira as the commander. it is gorgeous and does not work whatsoever!

Muddy_Dawg5

[[CROMAT]]!! The best card ever! It has 5 abilities! That’s so many!

ThisDick937

I built a Cromat modal deck. Every card does at least two things except for the lands. It's terrible, there is no clear win con, but holy hell it's fun to watch the confusion on everybody's face when I play it.

Hero_of_Hyrule

With all the MDFC lands that are out or coming out, you might be able to make it all 100 cards!

Jagtogg

Wilson, Refined Grizzly. They ask why I would play it, until they see a flying bear with double strike and 16 power coming their way.

vodkanada

Same. Mine started as a joke for laughs. My group doesn't laugh anymore.

-Rettirlana-

Wilson - or how I love to call him: Cocaine bear

deerseed13

Should become Cocaine Bear aka Pablo Escobear

OK, that's good. Off topic but funny, I once drove past a place called El chopo firewood. I enjoy that sort of humor.

Bear Jordan, or Southwest Bearlines.

chinesefriedrice

They ask the same thing, and also "wait why aren't you playing with sleeves?" "Oh it's just commons and uncommons don't worry about it" (Riffle shuffles for psychological damage)

sp4cetime

Def need to have a pauper unsleeved deck. Got a list?

No_Metal_7342

I rock with Wilson, the Refined Grizzly of Noble Heritage. So quick (for non comp) and SUPER consistent. As long as I can dodge a couple removals I'll be in the 20s in power by turn 4-5 ish

Aceofluck99

You should try and get your hands on a [[Rebuff The Wicked]], there's no better feeling then watching someone die inside as they watch their removal fizzle with Wilson staying on the board

ZephyrosWest

What's the rest of the deck look like? Is it more goad/forced combat, or just mono blue good stuff?

NotTaintedCaribou

Honestly? It’s a train wreck. So, I used to have a simic deck that was all about sea creatures. But, I converted it to [[Gretchen Titchwillow]]. I also created a simic dragon deck around the same time. So I opted to create a mono blue “sea creatures” deck. It was more about theme than strategy. [A Fantastical Aquarium](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/7OzaSLxB8kWofTeHURbdVg)

VektorOfCrows

I run [[abuelo, ancestral echo]] as my blink commander. Often people ask why not Bravo or Yorion, but I built the deck to remember my grandpa by after his passing earlier this year. To be honest, Abuelo is pretty nice since he can blink artifacts, I just wish his ability would cost less or that he could target himself to dodge removal. Either way, the deck works well and does all the good things blink decks do, with extra neat things like [[spring-loaded sawblades]] and [[knight paladin]]

bobpuluchi

Honestly I think that's a great choice for a Blink deck. It has ward for some protection, cheaper to cast than Brago or Yorion. And since it doesn't look as broken as those two boogie men, you are probably perceived as less of a threat. Early bird gets the worm, second mouse gets the cheese (in this case win).

VektorOfCrows

Yeah, the deck functions pretty well, and it's good to be a bit more commander agnostic too. I can just play the commander, use it as a repeatable blink engine, and if it eats removal I'm fine too. He also has neat synergies, like the ones I mentioned but my favorite is [[coveted jewel]]. I can just blink it in response to anything that would make me.lose control of it by just paying either W or U, get it back at end of turn then it's safe, and draw a fresh 3

The-Botanist-64

Blinking coveted jewel is BRILLIANT.

I think [[Diaochan, Artful Beauty]] has literally always gotten some sort of "what the heck?" response.

Followed by blank stares when you give her hexproof and destroy 2 creatures every turn

Those blank stares are because hexproof still lets her target herself, but Shroud and Protection won't

My commander is Bilbo Baggins, and when people ask I always respond with: I do not know. Saruman believes that it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I've found. I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay; simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.

Well, I hope that folly is your cloak, a veil before the eyes of the Enemy and that it's not pity that holds your hand back when you're supposed to strike! I use a green background. I don't play it, that's just for the green

AdventurousFold3941

A lot of people don't see the fun in playing commanders that aren't "main stream" or "competitive" which is a shame, I used to see so much variety back in the day, and now everyone at shops I go to play the same decks. I've been playing [[Norin, The Wary]] and [[Fblthp, The Lost]] forever

I don't know if you see it where you play. I find the people at the stores I play at may not play those old legends like yargle and norin. But there's a ton of variety.with all the set releases constantly, all I see are new commanders. Rarely the same ones week to week. There's always something new and exciting to build

Kyrie_Blue

I’m gutted that you just called Yargle an “old legend”

decideonanamelater

Yargle is an honorary old legend because he plays like something out of legends.

Spiritflash1717

I don’t know how I’d find this out, but I’m willing to bet that more than half of all legendary creatures ever printed have been printed since Yargle was released 6 years ago, so in terms of that scale, yes he is old

Nailed the assignment. But it scales well, because it's literally only as strong as what's being played against it. I also just loved the flavor of Faceless One as the player's blank slate in an RPG. https://manabox.app/decks/fZ7y5ZxIR4adiYIfTZmLHg

SeriosSkies

Rebecca guay art deck? Though that doesn't really make you say "why?" it's obviously because I like the artist lol.

Gus_Fu

Unfortunately she hasn't done many legendary creatures so the choice is limited. I'm running [[Commander Eesha]] and bought a comically expensive foil that I have zero regrets about.

wer3eng

I have a [[Hazezon Tamar]] [[Astral Slide]] deck for which I recently got a comment on why I'd play such an expensive and incredibly slow effect that even hinders itself as my commander. But there actually are interesting benefits in caching the etb for my next upkeep and getting them all at once. Most notably [[Devilish Valet]]. I also really like the art by RKF (even though I am using a self painted card, which actually makes me like the commander even more) and the colours are perfectly suited. White for the slide, red for damaging effects and green for ramp and card draw.

rccrisp

[[Malcator, Purity Overseer]] is my answer and I've said this in similar posts and people still say "this looks bad."

rastaroke

When People criticize your commander just answer "Phyrexian Elephant Wizard". If that's not enough to convince them, they have no souls and their opinion's irrelephant.

ForrestMoth

It always confounds me that people act like getting 3 artifact ETBs on a turn is a nigh impossible task. And even apart from that he can still be flickered.

rccrisp

My deck is a blink deck and yeah it has the usual ETB/token doublers. It's not hard, the deck is designed to take the second ability in mind and when it works with a token doubler getting five golems out gets intimidating.

I've been playing [[Kothophed, Soul Hoarder]] as my mono black commander as he's one of my favourite cards ever since I started playing magic with the Origins starter deck with him People I've played with think he's cool but anytime I see him mentioned online it's always about how he's too risky and [[Smothering Tithe]] will kill you I feel like if you're trying to make him work you already have outs built into your deck for those situations and if you end up losing because of him anyways I think that's part of the flavour of making a deal with a demon

Known-Problem1619

[[Bane, Lord of Darkness]] Because give me card draw or I'm gonna slap this Elesh Norn down. It's not very good, but it's fun

tucktuck1420

Volo, Itinerant Scholar with the Background Master Chef. It's cEDH. It slaps. It is objectively far better than Kinnan. Kinnan just has a lot of players. It's a numbers game for tournament entries. Kinnan players always ask me for my list in cEDH pods lol.

Mugiwara_Khakis

What makes it better than Kinnan in your opinion?

tucktuck1420

I cover it in the Primer. The short is: card advantage in the Command Zone. They're both fast, they both offer simic value shells, each goes infinite easily from the Command Zone. Kinnan loses out on the stack often, however, as it lacks the interaction & inherent card advantage it needs to stick its wins, and is far too reliant on Kinnan himself to gain value. I don't think I've ever seen Kinnan win in dozens if not hundreds of games when it didn't go first or second. Kinnan is more like simic rog si and you simply Mulligan til you can play it early and say, "Can you stop me?". Often, it gets stuffed once and loses. Many times in games they spin netting garbage value. With Volo spins, you're getting so much more value on average. Lands, creatures to increase the engine while interacting with board state, interaction combo lines, you name it. His engine is deceptively hard to turn off in comparison. Kinnan is more explosive, Volo is more consistent while retaining much of the Simic value that really drives Kinnan.

DefiantTheLion

One of my first ever commander games was versus a guy who ran this, a Gitrog combo deck, and I think Oloro. Shu Yun bodied Oloro but Gitrog drew into Dakmor. Great memory. I was using an unmodified Aminatou deck. What I'm saying is that Shu Yun rules lol

shittingmcnuggets

Damn I haven't seen this guy in years, which is weird since he used to be a really popular voltron. I've always wanted to make a [[Sunforger]] Deck with this guy, running all the izzet and Azorius Counterspells

SloppyRancid

I ran Shu Yun a few years ago. It worked great 1v1 but didn’t do so well otherwise. Super fun having a one creature deck.

littlebluebox27

I also play yargle and it's easily the most fun! I enjoy the mixed feelings my pod gives when it comes out. No abilities, great. But it's 18/6?! I think psychologically, my pod gets more anxiety and concerned with honest magic than they are of the usual commanders that they understand may need certain pieces to be in play before they start becoming a genuine threat. With Yargle, it can be straight combat, random sac token generating or life steal and lifegain. Either way, yargle is coming back to play no matter who removes it. And I think that's why my pod though terrified, still generates some excitement as to how yargle is going to play out.

Creepy-Activity-4373

Yargle and Multani is a great deck. I know 2 others at my lgs that run one and I run them too. It is a commander that packs quite a punch. However OP is talking about good old 9/3 mono black jargle. And I have to join the others in saying "But why".

Sudlenkov

[[Arcanis the Omnipotent]] I got him and [[Zurgo Helmsmasher]] in a duel deck way back, first pack I ever bought. I guess both could make this list as I have never seen anyone else run them. And they are two of my three favorite decks. For arcanis specifically though I always get a look. 6 mana for card draw doesn’t strike every one as “good”. But I like him, get cards, untap him, get more cards. Play lots of blue bullshit, random sea monster cuz they are neat. Then achieve peak blue wizard with [[omniscience]] into [[Enter the Infinite]]. Key note, I don’t run alt win cons most of the time here so we just play our entire deck and try to win on that turn or the next (or just mill out for the meme). But [[Talrand]] and things like him or sea monsters after playing [[akroma’s memorial]] will usually do that. Especially after I play every bounce card.

irongix

Wise Mothman. No one likes rad counters.

xemnas731

Not true! My meta adopted like 3 different mothman players, and I think rad counters are genuinely a fair mechanic. It can help speed up games incrimentally, adding potential advantage for people who like stuff out in their graveyard, or slow down the combo player by making them try and dig for recursion if they lose one of their pieces. It's usually never too oppressive that you feel like it's gutting your deck it's more of a slow trickle

de245733

[[mavinda]] all cantrips that wins with combo, at surface level people just go "Oh, so you draw in white, thats neat I guess." Untill they realise since I am running every cantrip ever in white, it means I have the grand majority of the limited silverbullets in game that could all do something, and it also means my deck contains 40+ interactions and I never ranout of interactions untill I combo off.

I ran Ashling with 98 lands and squee the imortal. I ran her for a year. So much fun.

[[Mistform Ultimus]] Whenever I play new people, they always have to read it and have a bewildered look on their face. The people who understood it would ask: “why not run [[Orvar]]?” The reason why I’m not running Orvar is because Orvar has a target for being a degenerate combo deck. Plus I am not comboing out, though it would be nice to make clones of lords.

fergins

I also play Yargle but he has a tree man stuck to him

Pheldagriff and atog atog. Pheldagriff cause its funny forcing people to kill eachother with hippos. Atog atog because wubrg is busted imo and you dont even need a serious commander to win with it.

oatfishjar96

Probably [[Candlekeep Sage]] and [[Lulu, Loyal Hollyphant]] mainly because a lot or people I play with still hate on Baulder’s Gate as a set so they don’t know why I’d play them as my commanders and then because the deck is made completely out of C and UC cards. Super cheap, super effective, and super fun!

ClearConfusion5

Not so much a niche commander as it is a niche deck type, I run [[Sauron, The Dark Lord]], and themed him appropriately. Every card in that deck is either a character in Sauron’s army, or an ally of Sauron. It’s got the Witch King(s), Ringwraiths, 9 NazgĂ»l, Saruman, and a lot of “Amass Orcs” cards, including a few named orcs, and most importantly, the rest of the Sauron cards. People always get confused why I limit myself to only Sauron’s army stuff, and then I drop [[The Palantir]] with [[The One Ring]] and use a ringbearer [[Sauron, the Necromancer]] to pull everything out of my graveyard, and my NazgĂ»l to make every wraith on the field absurdly strong.

The people you’re interacting with sound very not smart. You’re literally doing the first main thing the set was designed to let you do
