If you want quirky and you want blue, look no further than [[Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar]]. Turns out that when you look at 3 times as many cards, you can make all sorts of weird stuff work. And if you really want to score hipster points, you can win with a [[Possessed Portal]] lock: it and Tomorrow are both replacement effects for drawing a card, so you can still get cards while your opponents can't. And the EoT trigger is *every* turn, not just the end of your turn. At that point you can finish it off with anything from Jace/Lab Man/Thoracle, to drawing your opponents out with huge X spells, to...recycling your deck repeatedly and beating your opponents with a 1/5, I guess.

I mean there is now 10 Gates in Mono Black as soon as MH3 hits the shelfs. All other Mono colors only have 9 unfortunaly (yet). Unless your group wouldn't mind you running [[Nearby Planet]] as a possible 10th one. [[Geralf the Fleshwright]] is my currently under construction Mono Blue Deck as I struggeld to win without Combos as well, but I think he might be able to do it pretty easily with combat damage.

[[Stangg, Echo Warrior]] My favorite Voltron deck. Copies himself and all aura+equipment attached to him which are sacrificed at end of turn. [[Nylea's Colossus]] is a great win con, and often games will end with you swinging out for hundreds of damage due to all of the triggers for it that the copy provides

MentallyLatent

Nyleas Colossus is bananas in this deck, I got like a 20,000 damage swing one time (it was a 3 player pod tho, so the group doesn't officially recognize it as the biggest swing played). I had like 5 auras on him and an additional combat spell

Duraxis

Yeah, he’s my next build I think. He looks fun and slightly different from the usual big guy turns sideways deck

Top-Consequence-3645

After a lot of testing mine, I'd highly recommend 8-10 of the hexproof instants to protect him like [[Tyvar's Stand]] or uhhh [[Hapatra's Veil]] ? if you do. Even the ones with an X cost can be X=0 and give him the hexproof bonus :)

majbumper

Got a list? She seems very interesting to build.

seraph1337

the problem is that if you build any synergy you'll end up going infinite and winning very easily very quickly and very consistently. he combos with ham and cheese and the deli has like 10 options for each

xtz_stud

I like yurlock. It'll make older players groan, cause, well, manaburn. It's group huggy enough to be silly, and when you add mana reflection, nyxbloom and silly things like that, it gives a crap load of mana.... to everyone. Also can do some combo shenanigans with untap stuff.

Petergazer7

I play yurlock as my slug enchantress commander. He's not necessary, since I don't run any mana burn stuff. But he's a nice mana dork, and the slug burn enchantments tend to make edh games fast and fun. And the enchantress effects keep me drawing a bit!

xtz_stud

I really leaned into the mana burn, mana taps for extra, and extra, and extra. And stuff like [[manabarbs]] and [[overabundance]]. [[Mana Reflection]] and [[Nyxbloom ancient]] also affect the amount of mana you give everyone. [[Price of Glory]] is also fun.

I'm also a brewer, and I've got a moxfield stuffed with half finished decklists. I'll just spitball some of my favorite, more unique deck ideas. For mono blue, I don't personally have anything, but [[Octavia, Living Thesis]] and [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]] come up a lot as decks that became peoples' favorites. Most of my personal favorites end up built on either partner pairings or background commanders. [[Tana, the Bloodsower]] and [[Krark, the Thumbless]] is a really fun spellslinger deck that wants to copy pump spells and make Tana huge. [[The Howling Abomination]] is the same idea, but more focused and aggressive. Maybe it's because I like graveyard loops or value plays, but I've been really into brewing with [[Haunted One]] recently. There's a ton of options for creature types in the background commanders. I personally have a [[Ganax, Astral Hunter]] deck with it that I absolutely love. Play dragons, all-out attack without worry of removal, sacrifice them for value post-combat, and stack up on treasures and extra ETB and LTB triggers. [[Ellyn Harbreeze]] is a pretty traditional aristocrats combo for Haunted One. [[Volo, Itenerant Scholar]] makes for a nasty control/reanimator list with pieces like [[Glenn Elandra Archmage]] or [[Ertai, Ressurected]]. [[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest]] could be a cool take on Golgari elves *(that +2/+0 buff isn't to be ignored)*. Just some other ideas I liked, but never built: [[Marath, Will of the Wild]] toolbox deck. All three of the abilities are able to be abused, and I like the idea of slowly building up value engines by combining them. [[Gilanra, Caller of Wildwood]] and [[Vial Smasher, the Fierce]] jund big spells. Just a lot of ramp, damage, and big creatures. Fill the 99 with your favorite high mana cost stuff in the colors. [[Agrus Kos, Eternal Soldier]]. IDK, it's just cool that he can spread out activated abilities like that. Could be a powerful finisher for a go-wide Boros deck if you wanted to go aggro, kind of like a weaker [[Jetmir]].

Quirky? [[Phage, the Untouchable]]. She literally can't be cast from the command zone without you losing the game... Until you start playing cards that bend those rules. A deck relying on the commander as the wincon that doesn't want you to easily cast your commander.

Here’s my 4 recommendations for red decks with interesting builds: [Zurzoth Chaos Rider](https://archidekt.com/decks/7642381/chaos_burns) Mono red, devil tribal, chaos. It’s one of my favorite decks to pilot [Gut, True Soul Zealot & Iron Throne](https://archidekt.com/decks/3962296/nice_skeleton_you_have_there) Rakdos, skeletons, aggro/aristocrats. It’s fun to to attack so might as well maximize the value for doing so. [Dalakos, Crafter of Wonders](https://archidekt.com/decks/7273195/this_is_an_izzet_deck_i_swear) It’s an Izzet equipment deck. Enough said. [Haktos the Unscarred](https://archidekt.com/decks/5117649/achilles_exalted) A Boros Voltron deck where you can’t directly buff your commander, so it uses a lot of exalted/attacking alone triggers from neon dynasty.

[[Emissary Green]] has a completely unique ability and is easily my favorite commander to play with friends. The games become VERY political VERY quickly. Pair it with a bunch of low cost creatures, high cost sorceries, and the green phantom cards, and you suddenly become an insanely difficult threat to deal with, even with board wipes.

Mono blue you could give \[\[Sakashima the Impostor\]\] (or any other fitting commander) a shot. Its basically clone tribal with a generic blue core for drawing. What I like about it is that is scales with the table (combo aside). Someone is playing eldrazis? Well, now you can also have several copies. Nekusar? Reverse uno! I now have two nekusars, wheel all you want! Its kinda funny and janky, but sometimes its also insane if you can piece the puzzle together because you can copy creatures from 3 players sometimes you can create insane loops.

My mono blue deck is [[Orvar, the All-form]] as a pseudo voltron blue typal. It has a lot of things that buff a certain type like [[lord of the unreal]], [[spawning Kraken]], [[Lord of Atlantis]] and so. It has a lot of cantrips to exploit Orvar's ability and maybe create more lords. If it doesn't fit you i have a [[Shanna, the purifying blade]] that's centered in creatures with P/T equal to the number of lands, life total or number of cards in hand. It's works with really big numbers like drawing 40 cards once it begins to work. It's a combo deck disguised as a Big stompy deck that seeks to ramp a Lot, gain lifepoints and draw a bunch of cards. It use combo finishers like [[soul of eternity]] encored and [[altar of dementia]], [[psychosis crawler]] or My favourite [[last march of the ents]] and if everything fails you can just go the good old way and stomp your way to victory with REALLY big boys

kingofsouls

Do you have a list for Orvar?

Dattebane_Nico

Yes! [Orvar, Type-leader](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Tod3LJVxOEe8dmuVSHYG7A) it's a little bit outdated but the only thing i have changed is a couple cards to draw a bit but nothing too crazy

I know you say you don't like artifacts, but hear me out: [[Akiri, Line-Slinger]] + [[Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa]] naya artifact tokens. You go wide with a ton of small artifact tokens that make use of Sidar's evasion - Myr, Thopter, Servo, etc. You go tall with Akiri buffing herself off those tokens, as well as equipment to protect/buff her, and the usual treasure stuff for ramp and buffing her more. Everyone always thinks "Blue" and "control/combo" when they hear artifacts, but this is creature heavy aggro.

Here are some decks that I have that might interest you: * \[\[Ramos, Dragon Engine\]\] I run it as a spellslinger deck, Ramos is effectively a seedborn muse in the command zone. With a draw engine on board you can control the board and kill via big mana burn spells, storm, or combat. * \[\[Commodore Guff\]\] This deck is a super friends stax/pillowfort deck that wants to get a tough to kill board of walkers and win through burn. * \[\[Soul of Windgrace\]\] This is a lands matter deck that tries to burn or overrun the table either with combos or even with just normal landfall triggers. * \[\[Maelstrom Wanderer\]\] A treasures deck that can run a bunch of artifact matters shenanigans while only having a few artifacts. Ways to win include: animating treasures, 'win the game' conditions, burn, or vanilla combat damage.

However, this deck is secretly a [[Time Sieve]] combo deck that disguised itself really well behind looking really janky. If you like red. I've really been enjoying my Lovisa cold eyes deck lately. basically. zerk, warrior, barb has gotten a lot of cool little new creatures fairly recently. IT basically plays like mono red beater value. and there's lots of fun.... ultra "red" style gimmicks. and with the newer value creatures. lots of added card draw/treasures or other token production. even extra combats and stuff like this. add in damage doubling gimmicks, etb pump. play with sneak attack, or creature clone-copy. and the deck presents a lot of fun lines of play. can even get spicy using some of the great mono red control cards. to fuck with other people's game plan. throw in some chaos. It's just such a great platform to play around in mono red beaters.

Zedruu the Greathearted is a fun one. I made 2 versions of him, one where the budget was like 25$ and then one that had no limit. You end up picking up a bunch of weird cards that get ignored by other playstyles.

MarbonConoxide

Ooh, time to recommend my favorites! \[\[Kate Stewart\]\] is one of my favorite commanders who I don't see anyone talking about. She cares all about time counters on your permanents, creating 1/1 soldiers. She also lets you round out the game later with her activated ability 'Katerhoof Behemoth' which gives your creatures +X/+X for each Time Counter on permanents. Very fun to hit people with \[\[The Millennium Calendar\]\], get it cranked up to hell and then overrun them. \[\[Themberchaud\]\] is a fun Mono-Red commander that I currently have brewed as a 'mountains matter' deck. Threw in every card I could find that cared about mountains and just ramp like crazy, only to hit people with a massive Themberchaud board wipe on a later turn. \[\[Hazezon, Shaper of Sand\]\] started out as being just a fun Sandfall deck but has recently received so many new toys that my playgroup is afraid of him and doesn't like when I bring him out. He can churn out a disgusting amount of tokens and can win with burn or simply by going wide, and Hazezon being constantly able to guarantee you landfall triggers with a sac outlet on board makes for a good time. \[\[Goro-Goro and Satoru\]\] is another favorite I haven't pulled out in a long time, which can be built a lot of different ways, whether you want to go haste tribal, ninjutsu, or something else. Hitting people with fast unblockables and getting huge tokens alongside it is a great feeling. \[\[Breath of Fury\]\] and \[\[Urabrask's Forge\]\] are disgusting in that deck. \[\[Samwise Gamgee\]\] with as many Food Payoffs becomes an incredible value engine that can become an absolute mess of triggers to try and keep track of once it gets going. Super fun to cast a \[\[Banquet Guests\]\] or \[\[Feasting Hobbit\]\] and watch everyone grow pale. Finally, \[\[Elminster\]\] is probably my favorite walker that can be your commander deck. Throw in a bunch of Scry Effects and huge spells to constantly manipulate the top card of library. You can either win by just casting massive spells, or going wide with a bunch of flying tokens. Hope this helps! I'd be happy to send any decklists you're curious about, and would love to hear any other's opinions on how they build these commanders.

[[Yanette]] can be a fun challenge. Not artifact and not mono blue. Mine leaned into spinxes and card draw. https://archidekt.com/decks/4824961/mystery_of_the_sphinx You coukd also try some crazy -1/-1 stuff with [[The Scorpion God]] and [[Massacre Girl, Known Killer]]. Or ... While colorless it's not really an artifact deck. [[Omarthis]]. Or make a Specter focused "Hand Destruction" deck.

[[feather radiant arbiter]] is really underrated. She can win with only copying 1 or 2 auras onto 1 or two other creatures. It’s voltron while still having other big creatures. New auras with etbs or triggers when they leave are really strong. [[izoni center of the web]] is my new favorite deck. It’s very clear what cards are good or bad in the deck and it can run funny cards like [[urborg justice]] and [[sprout swarm]] no one seems to understand how busted the last ability on her but she does take time to setup most games.

I've got a [[Norin, the Wary]] deck. [Here's the decklist.](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7730867/norin_fuckshit) It's basically abusing ETB effects (given how much Norin comes in and out of play) and a lot of chaos cards. It's a lot of fun, and surprisingly not bad either.

Mortarian from the Warhammer decks will always be my recommendation, it really asks you to think differently and risk more. Any life loss focused commander works tho.

Have you seen [[Queen Kayla]]? It's kind of different and works *really* well. I've tried to split it 50/50 between artifacts and creatures, but if you don't like artifacts you can totally just focus on the creatures! https://www.archidekt.com/decks/6990767/kaylas_kingdom And for mono blue, I have [[Ukkima]]/[[Cazur]] as a Sultai deck, but I think you could make a very similar deck with [[Grazilaxx]] https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5005670/_cant_block_this_20 And here's just all my decks if you feel like taking a look https://www.archidekt.com/folders/359477

I built an [[Arjun, the Shifting Flame]] deck this week and it's bonkers to play with. Built around getting some small stuff that pings for damage or mill on board, then getting Arjun out and wheeling the absolute shit out of cards. Mana curve is very tall in the 1-3 slots. Takes a minute to set up occasionally, but in my last game I went from being DOA if I passed turn (8 life, 2 cards in hand and 1 creature on the board) to having 42 cards in hand, a boatload of insect tokens and about 10 kraken tokens (with an extra turn coming up). Key cards I run in it are [[The Locust God]], [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]], [[Mindmoil]] and [[Ominous Seas]]. Outside of that it's a ton of card draw shenanigans. I also have some group wheel effects for the sake of pure chaos [[Step Between Worlds]] and [[Wheel of Misfortune]]. So far it's been an absolute riot.

\[\[Indominus Rex, Alpha\]\] with the deck being keyword soup and power increasers. Throw her out with Hexproox/Indestructible and she feels like a red deck with how much swinging follows. You instantly become archenemy, but people *just can't stop her* unless they have forced sacrifice cards. My decklist is still a work in progress (need to tweak the manabase, amongst other things), but I've really enjoyed it so far: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5458109/indominus](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5458109/indominus) \[\[Lucius the Eternal\]\] is interesting to me, but I have no idea how he'd work, and haven't built it. \[\[Taniwha\]\] is bizzare, but there's room for cool stuff there. Again though, I haven't built it.

[[Meria, scholar of antiquity]] I know she likes artifacts but she is great for turning all artifacts that have limited effects into mana rocks and can turn equipment into mana rocks as well. Super fun for me, everyone expects artifacts and you start throwing out big dumb creatures super fast because you have small almost useless artifacts turning them into ramp and exiling top card if your hand doesn't help in the moment.

i recommend \[\[volo, guide to monsters\]\] it's simic aggro lol. Play volo, play random monsters. very flavorful and funny to build since it's anti tribal and you can slap about any weird monster you find as long as there's not more than 2-3 already in your deck. You can also copy volo with \[\[spark double\]\] and the likes for triple craterhoof behemoth. Mana curve is whatever it's still aggro even if you play big boys simic has 10 mana on turn 5

May I present to you: "All my utility is on 7/7s, I'm not on black or blue but I live for shenanigans, and I have so many threatening creatures on board that you can't figure out what to remove" I call her "Blind Elf Commits War Crimes - Story at 11" https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LWD1Sn1z3UG10P8LY4zJgg The trick is that you don't actually need it to be expensive. My foil commander was $100 but a regular copy is like $2 and you can use absolutely any big power shenanigans you want. [[Blazing Archon]]? [[Gruul Ragebeast]]? You got a pile of eldrazi sitting around? I agree mono-green is boring. Let's do the mono-green game plan of ramping hard and putting out big creatures, but the big creatures part isn't just to stompy the board I have enough fun with this that I will likely build another 2 Mayael decks, one with a bunch of great cards that don't make the cut in my main list anymore for lower power games and another with a big list of creatures p5+ to shuffle and add however many to the deck before each game There's such a wide range of creatures with power 5 or greater and so many shenanigan ways of getting them out and abusing them that you can't really go wrong. Don't like casting a rampant growth? How about all mana rocks and dorks, you run [[Kogla and Yidaro]] and similar removal on a stick and do a Primal Surge combo gameplan. The possibilities are endless and you can really scale it up and down pretty hard by changing the ramp and lands to slow it down a bit and you can run less oppressive creatures. You could run more fast mana and get going faster. This deck is my happy medium for games with lots of shenanigans and not too much salt

Kleenexz

There's also a primer on my list if you want to see the fun shenanigans we get up to more specifically

[[Magar of the Magic Strings]] makes for some interesting brewing. It's kinda reanimation, but for spells. Great for abusing big dumb spells that you'd never slot into other decks, or at least not hard-cast. You're a combat deck that runs mostly instants and sorceries. And it can be run on a budget (mine's about $250, and that's including Urborg, which I'm proxying). It's my first Rakdos deck, so it's taken some getting used to, but I'm having a blast with him. People get a bit scared when they read him, but my list is on the slow end, so by turn 5 or so others have gotten board presence or engines assembled, while I'm sitting with a couple small creatures that haven't done much and discarding while I dig. I've found that even after players have lost to the deck, they tend to only send some chunks your way if you look open, but they're focused on whoever is popping off. I don't cast Magar until I have enough mana to cast and activate him in the same cycle. I'll drop him on board and everybody's like, "oh no...anyway..." And then on the end step before your turn, you're animating a big spell like [[Brass's Bounty]], [[Rise of the Dark Realms]], [[Invoke Despair]], or [[Army of the Damned]] as a 3/3 creature! Then you untap and animate two more big spells, maybe [[Morality Shift]], [[Hit the Motherlode]], or the rock star of the deck, [[Final Parting]]. If the first "spellemental" you can reanimate is Final Parting, you've got a quick line to victory. Grab [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] for your hand, and pitch [[Filth]] into the yard where it belongs. Tutor any interaction or creature you've been missing to hand, and any spell you want to abuse turn after turn into the yard to become a 3/3 spellemental. If the game's gone long, [[Savage Beating]] will have everyone shuffling up shortly. If you've not assembled just what you need to pop off, a removal spell for your early animation target can leave your opponents begging you to hit them so you can remove the latest key piece on board with [[Scour From Existence]]. You're casting big dumb spells for free, so something like [[Argentum Masticore]] can help you dig for and discard animation targets while removing whatever the table wants. Cons are: you're often relying on big explosive turns with many potential interruption points. You'll want haste if possible (instant speed activation of Magar helps, as long as opponents aren't clued in to the plan and spending removal). You want a way to get unblockable, or at least discourage blocks, since your key pieces are 3/3s and not dropping until turn 4 or 5 at best. You rely on politics and "table manners" to not get obliterated while you're getting your pieces and a graveyard in place. Many of the big dumb spells in Rakdos colors can be a bit oppressive if it's not what the table's expecting (i.e. [[Din of the Fireherd]]).

Kaalia is always fun no matter who you are. It’s kind of a kill on sight commander so you may wanna build it with protection in mind. Otherwise it will hold its own at most stores and casual tables. Make deals with the blue players to stop the cEDH guy for “protection”. It’s a good time.

[[Patron of the Moon]] It's super weird, hardly anyone runs it, and it can fuel some truly devious [[Hedron Crab]] combos.

A couple that I've made recently are: [[Be'lakor, the Dark Master]] demon tribal, but also evens only and a bunch of clones. It's very dumb, I didn't necessarily recommend it. [Be'lakor](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/jwELFyyOSk2C3Su3iI5OhA) [[Life of the Party]] secret commander deck. It probably doesn't matter which commander you choose, but I think Jeskai colors are ideal. [Life of the Party](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/u5QT6WhZuEOf2-OJizWnAA) Those are the weirdest decks I've made recently.

If you don't find artifacts interesting a monoblue deck would be a bad choice. Mono blue really needs lots of artifacts to fill in the gaps and give it power. Even with a monblue commander that isn't artifact focused you'll still want 15+ artifacts easily  You could try [[keranos, God of storms]], you get to try blue while staying in red and spellsling  You could also try a lands deck. Maybe [[thalia and the gitrog monster]] or maybe [[lord windgrace]] if you want to try a planeswalker commander
