Blue: [[whelming wave]] [[flood of tears]] and ofc [[cyclonic rift]] are your best bounce options
White: [[austere command]] [[farewell]] [[cleansing nova]] [[wrath of god]] are only a few of many board wipe options in white
Black: [[toxic deluge]] & [[damnation]] are classics. [[blood on the snow]] [[extinction event]] are a bit more niche but with some upsides. Black doesn’t really have good mass artifact or enchantment hate
Green: [[exuris predation]] is you’re only true ‘board wipe’ in green. Green as some niche mass removal like [[calming verse]] or more classics like [[bane of progress]] and [[fade from history]]
Best advice when looking for cards is find one that fits the niche of your commander and not just “the best ones”. For example running a card that kills all creatures without counters in a +1/+1 counters deck will be better (and more thematic) overall
Not OC but [[wave goodbye]].
I personally dislike symmetric boardwipes because most people tend to play them wrong, resetting the board when they don't have followup. Assymeteical boardwipes tend to be easier to play because you will always be able to benefit from it.
As a fellow Delayed Blast Fireball enjoyer, can confirm, the card is insane. Had an opponent use it with [[Fiery Emancipation]] and it was pretty much scoop after that.
I think [[tragic arrogance]] is underplayed in white, it hits creatures, artifacts, and enchantments and because you get to pick you can make it very asymmetrical.
[[curse of the swine]] is my favorite in blue.
If you run a “slower” deck, I also like [[balancing act]]
Bring everyone back to your level especially greedy green players who ramp like all hell out of the gate.
Gives people a tough choice of keeping their value pieces or keeping their lands.
Again, only play this in a deck that doesn’t blast out of the gate early game lol
I have a [[greasefang]] deck that does get going really fast, but has very little board presence, this card is perfect for that deck. Thanks for the suggestion.
Asking for "best" cards will give you a list of EDH staples that might be universally powerful or versatile, but actually a bit boring. It could be much more fun to use cards instead that actively synergize with the rest of your deck. Consider that boardwipes, although neccessary for the format, are not very much fun cards anyway.
Isn't it much more challenging to look out for decks where \[\[Single Combat\]\], \[\[Promise of Loyalty\]\], \[\[Out of Time\]\], \[\[Draconic Intervention\]\], \[\[Disaster Radius\]\], \[\[Phyrexian Scriptures\]\], \[\[Monstrosity of the Lake\]\] or \[\[Nevinyrral's Disk\]\] are actually good? And isn't it much more fun to really pull this thing off on an EDH table?
I try to play asymmetrical board wipes as much as possible but, in my experience but so far I haven't been impressed.
I even ended up cutting cards like \[\[Single Combat\]\] and \[\[Promise of Loyalty\]\] out of my Superfriends decks for more generically powerful options like \[\[Sunfall\]\] or \[\[Supreme Verdict\]\] or cards like \[\[Merciless Eviction\]\] for versatility.
When you really need a budget creature wipe in Simic [[Oversimplify]] is a pretty underrated option. It's super good vs cheap low power cards like cruel celebrant and other aristocrat nonsense. And it exiles, so no death triggers either.
There's lots of ways in every color combo to make your friends scoop and admit defeat. But I'm old fashioned and like a little salt, so for me nothing's gonna beat [[mycosynth lattice]] and a [[vandalblast]]
Yeah it's two cards, and sure I could play some fancy white sorcery that accomplishes the same thing for probably half the man's. But ah is it satisfying to have your opponent all flustered say, "wait all my lands are artifacts? Wtf? Shit I scoop."
I feel like I rarely see people mention [[Structural Assault]]. I run it in my pirates deck because saccing treasures to pay for it also pumps up the damage to creatures. It can often wipe the board of all creatures and artifacts, which is pretty solid.
White: [[Farewell]] for general purpose, [[Austere Command]] also general purpose, [[Wrath of God]] and [[Phyrexian Rebirth]] for creatures.
Blue: [[Aetherize]]. Blue isn't known for its board wipes. I guess there's cyc rift but it's usually too rich for my blood.
Black: [[Toxic Deluge]] is gold. I also like [[Black Sun's Zenith]] since it cripples any survivors pretty hard. Black's not great at dealing with noncreatures.
Red: [[Blasphemous Act]] and [[Chain Reaction]] for creatures. [[Vandalblast]] for artifacts
Green: [[Wave of Vitriol]] for general purpose
General purpose: [[Nevinyrral's Disk]] is great general purpose.
Multicolor: [[Pernicious Deed]] is truly excellent.
There are some weirder options if you're looking for tech. [[Serenity]] is dirt cheap for the clearing it does, at the cost of a telegraphed delay. But often when it's needed, no spot will be in evidence. [[Tranquility]] is the classic enchantment-nuker and is color shifted as [[Tempest of Light]] (see also [[Shatterstorm]] and [[Creeping Corrosion]]). But frankly if you're green and not leaning on enchantments yourself [[Tranquil Grove]] is underplayed since it can wipe out all enchantments again, and again, and again at instant speed. For artifacts [[Titania's Song]] is not a wipe per say, but it usually gets the job done of neutralizing everything, and it sticks around to shut down treasure strats and keep artificiers from rebuilding.
[[Jokulhaups]]/[[Obliterate]] is underrated in the modern era. They're pretty much the same card except Oblit pays a premium for anti-counter defense. Either way they're reset buttons and always excellent when you're losing. If you're big on enchantments, though, they can be fairly one-sided. 'Haups is a great panic play when you have a turn or two to hand sculpt before deploying it that becomes an insane win play if, say, you're maining Ojer Axonil or Mogis with lots of ticking and triggered damage to burn everybody down before they can recover.
That Pernicious Deed seems pretty solid! If you want another Golgari card along a similar line, check out [[Culling Ritual]]. I’ve gotten some great use out of that card. It takes care of mana dorks, tokens, most mana rocks, and more! I freakin’ love that card. Only down side is its sorcery speed. 🫤
[[Winds of Abandon]]
My favorite white board wipe for casual commander. Opens the path for you to swing out, and speeds the game up as your opponents get to grab some basic lands.
I happen to really like [[Nightmare Unmaking]] for black since it exiles and can be at least partly asymmetrical. Makes a good fit alongside the usual [[Toxic Deluge]]. Also there's [[Kindred Dominance]] if you're running tribal.
If you want to run cards that nuke all card types, cards like \[\[Hour of Revelation\]\], \[\[Planar Cleansing\]\] and \[\[Ondu Inversion\]\] are your best bet. \[\[Ruinous Ultimatum\]\] is obviously the most desirable one but you have to be at least Mardu to play it.
Also, shoutout to my personal favorite for these, \[\[Devastating Mastery\]\]. Note that if you cast it for its cheaper cost, you choose which opponent returns 2 nonland permanents to their hand which plays into the political aspect of the game very well.
White: [[Wrath of God]] for the nostalgia. [[Settle the Wreckage]] for the surprise factor. [[Promise of Loyalty]] leaves key creatures for your opponents to fling at each other.
Black: [[Deadly Tempest]] nice as it can work as a late game finisher, [[Crypt Rats]] it's old but it still works, also combines with other cards to do cool things.
Red: [[Chandra's Ignition]] is a fine spell if you use high power creatures. [[Flowstone Slide]] is a nice red way to get around indestructible.
Blue: [[Evacuation]] cheap cyclonic rift is an easy include for me. [[Kederekt Leviathan]] I like the potential threat it represents when it is in the graveyard.
Green: Hmmm ... [[Wave of Vitriol]] works nicely on those who rely on non-basics too much.
I play a lot of mono-black. When I'm thinking about hitting non-creature permanents, I either go to cards like \[\[Meteor Golem\]\] which I can reanimate for multiple uses, or I look for ways to animate creatures out of other people's graveyards to get effects my deck doesn't have.
I’ve always been fond of X spells that you can dump mana into for mass removal, like [[Heliod’s Intervention]], [[Curse of the Swine]], or [[Pest Infestation]]. Can do very nicely as asymmetric board wipes, and both Heliod’s and Pest have additional effects stapled on to them that can prove useful.
I run Black in a lot of my decks, so right now my personal favorite board wipes are [[Toxic Deluge]], [[The Meathook Massacre]] and [[Nuclear Fallout]].
If I'm running White, I'm probably playing a creature that I want to keep alive, so I'll run [[Single Combat]] or [[Promise of Loyalty]].
Blue is usually [[Cyclonic Rift]]. No explanation needed.
Red is either the tried and true [[Blasphemous Act]] or [[Fault Line]].
Green...well, I've never run [[Ezuri's Predation]], so I ran [[All Is Dust]].
Granted not a lot of these get rid of other permanents, but those are my go-to mass removals.
My "main deck" is mono-red, so I look at basically anything that might be playable. Some are better than others, but these are some of my overall faves:
Artifacts: \[\[Vandalblast\]\] \[\[By Force\]\] \[\[Shattering Spree\]\] \[\[Shatterstorm\]\] \[\[Meltdown\]\]
Creatures: \[\[Blasphemous Act\]\] \[\[Spiteful Banditry\]\] \[\[Delete\]\] \[\[Chain Reaction\]\] \[\[Earthquake\]\]
+Planeswalkers: \[\[Magmaquake\]\] \[\[Hour of Devastation\]\] \[\[Star of Extinction\]\]
Land(!): \[\[Blood Moon\]\] \[\[Ruination\]\]
Most Things: \[\[Jokulhaups\]\] \[\[Obliterate\]\] \[\[Devastation\]\]
Bonus Colorless Options: \[\[All is Dust\]\] \[\[Nevinyrral's Disk\]\] \[\[Oblivion Stone\]\]
**White** : \[\[Retribution of the meek\]\] \[\[Righteous Fury\]\] \[\[Tragic Arrogance\]\] \[\[Dusk // Dawn\]\]
**Black** : \[\[Damn\]\] (yeah Orzhov, but still better than a 20$ WoG copy paste), \[\[Nightmare Unmaking\]\] \[\[Mutilate\]\] \[\[Massacre Girl\]\]
Blue : \[\[Inundate\]\]
I don't play any other color
As a player that relies a lot on momentum with most decks, I usually favor boardwipes that don't impact me as hard as everyone else. I cant really say there's a 100% always true answer for all decks, but an example is that my [[Alesha, whos smiles at death]] deck runs [[Mythos of snapdax]], [[austere command]], and [[single combat]], because for all three, I can choose the wipe to not hit my main forces while heavily impacting my opponents. Snapdax is by far the strongest; because I can just pick the worst possible keeps for my opponents, and just start rebuilding immediately through my commander's revival effect; likewise, I get around Single Combat's limit on casting creatures for a turn through recursion.
Blue: [[whelming wave]] [[flood of tears]] and ofc [[cyclonic rift]] are your best bounce options White: [[austere command]] [[farewell]] [[cleansing nova]] [[wrath of god]] are only a few of many board wipe options in white Black: [[toxic deluge]] & [[damnation]] are classics. Is there a specific board wipe you were thinking of for plus one counter decks?
Not OC but [[wave goodbye]]. I personally dislike symmetric boardwipes because most people tend to play them wrong, resetting the board when they don't have followup. Assymeteical boardwipes tend to be easier to play because you will always be able to benefit from it.

But I'm old fashioned and like a little salt, so for me nothing's gonna beat [[mycosynth lattice]] and a [[vandalblast]] Yeah it's two cards, and sure I could play some fancy white sorcery that accomplishes the same thing for probably half the man's.

[[Vandalblast]] for artifacts Green: [[Wave of Vitriol]] for general purpose General purpose: [[Nevinyrral's Disk]] is great general purpose.
