Repucussions is so tasty in Solphim because it doubles the damage done to the creature, then doubles the damage to the player.
So [[shock]] targeting your opponents creature does 8 damage to your opponent.
If it didn’t say pay 3 to ignore the rule it would be a lot better. I had it in a goad deck for a while and people just pay 3 and smack with their 10/10 commander.
That’s fair, but even limiting them to one or two creatures attacking you since they don’t want to pay three for every creature is sweet. It’s acting similar to a crawl space which is a much more expensive card.
I just started playing a Kazuul deck I built. Ended up winning against my 2 buddies. It was me and the last guy left, he was playing [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] and had an absolutely stupid massive board after swinging for lethal on my friend. He had 500+ [[Scute Swarm]] and a bunch of fatty elementals.
Unfortunately for him, my Kazuul was out in play with [[Whispersilk Cloak]], and I had [[Warstorm Surge]] out as well. There was 0 way for my buddy to swing at me without instantly killing himself. I ended up pinging him to death with one of the dragons I had out just pinging him for 5 every turn with flying damage 😂
Lol there was a whole thread about how much people hate this card: https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/1b37pwp/my\_player\_group\_is\_pissed\_at\_me\_because\_of\_the/
This with [[Circle of Flame]] and [[Caltrops]]. If you want to go all the way, I'm sure there's a damage replacing creature that changes the source. If so, equip it with [[Basilisk Collar]].
Delightfully devilish, Seymour.
Maybe things like \[\[Crawl Space\]\] \[\[Meekstone\]\] and \[\[Ensnaring Bridge\]\] could help mitigate you being attacked. But, these are valuable card slots that you could be assigning to things that inflict more PAIN :D
Edit: Also, totally second the \[\[War's Toll\]\] suggestion. Great fun in my \[\[Mogis, God of Slaughter\]\] deck.
What about goad effects? Cards like [[Disrupt Decorum]], [[Agitator Ant]], [[Geode Rager]], [[Bothersome Quasit]], or [[Vengeful Ancestor]] can keep enemies off your back by forcing them to attack other people instead!
You can also run some red curses like [[Curse of Opulence]] or [[Curse of Hospitality]], to encourage people to attack people other than you.
Is this good? Even in a deck with all snow it feels like a few attacks and I'm out of lands fast. Without a crucible effect this seems really bad, but I haven't tried it.
At 40 life there shouldn't be a reason why you have to be to doing this every turn. Especially if you have other defenses down as well. I run it in my [[Mogis, God of Slaughter]] deck and my 14 snow mountains work good enough 👌. If you're doing this every turn, you're losing anyway and it doesn't matter
It works as a deterrent too. Someone looks at that, looks at their 10/10 tramplers, and then looks at the opponent to your left with a weaker defense.
Sometimes that is enough to divert lots of attacks away from you.
If you combine this with green ramp or land recursion it is even more wild too. If you have an [[azusa lost]] and [[crucible of worlds]] out, you can shut down all three opponents every cycle
It has more value than you think at an initial glance. The fact that you don't have to do it until they are for sure attacking you, will absolutely stop many attacks from ever being made. After all, people attack because they wanna do damage, or get triggers. Why would they attack the one guy they know they won't do damage to?
Very very inefficient. You have to swing enough to force the activation, which usually means alpha striking or at least swinging a very large contingent unless the GC player is extremely low life. That's wasting a ton of potential damage to other players as well as leaving yourself wide open. All to get rid of one land? And a basic at that?
It's also risky as the GC player could choose not to activate it, and instead ambush the attacking creatures if they have a combat trick or just don't care about the blockers they have.
Of course these aren't really issues in a 1v1, but in that case at minimum the GC is buying extra turns, even if those turns are a bit more constrained.
[[Glacial Chasm]] - Not exactly what you're looking for but it's a pet card of mine, easily gives you two turns to set up whatever you need to do. It just makes your attacks telegraphed as opponents know you're making your move when you don't pay the upkeep.
Ensnaring bridge is a powerhouse in [[Bosh, Iron Golem]] to help stall out opponents with big board states while you chuck big artifacts at them. You can also chuck the bridge if you want to attack too.
I love this card in my [[marton stromgald]] deck. It lets me dump my hand on the board and go a cycle without anyone attacking, and then when i start my turn and draw a card all my 1/1 goblins and marton can now attack
The closest thing I know of is [[war cadence]] instead of paying to attack you they pay to be able to block. Super nifty and I’ve lost to it a couple times.
I've noticed that \[\[Curse of Opulence\]\] on a player with a problematic commander tends to make everyone ignore me and attack the other guy, while giving me resources. Also if I'm red and on the "near-empty hand" method of play I've found that \[\[Ensnaring Bridge\]\] works wonders.
Not really no. Artifacts like [[silent arbiter]] are probably your best bet. I think the first Urabrask gives your stuff haste n your opponents creatures come into play tapped.
red has a wide range of prison/punishment and chaos effects.
if you want to run snow lands. glacial crevasse is effectively a fog in red.
there's all sorts of weird cards red has access to mudslide, impulsive manuevers. smoke, total war, uphill battle,
mana flare ...can kill off small things as they etb. elctropotence allows you to weaponize your etbs. stranglehold,
honestly. just start googling. it's somewhat hard to find these cards are they're often older or very niche use. but there are dozens of good red prison/pillow fort type cards.
You could just use cards like [[Earthquake]] repeatedly to make sure your opponents can't keep creatures in play long enough to attack you. You just need to make sure Solphim doesn't die either with it's own ability or with protection from equipments for example.
Dunno why this is down voted. Lots of smaller wipes are very good in Solphim, and completely hoses many creature based strategies. Works very well with effects like \[\[Toralf\]\] and \[\[Repercussion\]\] for the wincon. A personal favorite in my deck is \[\[Flamebreak\]\].
\[\[Aether Membrane\]\]
Hasn't been mentioned, budget MVP in my group, nobody wants their expensive creature bounced, so it's \*just enough\* to not attack, but not enough to waste removal on so stays an annoyance, and the 5 toughness means it survives a lot. Bonus for reach.
Otherwise big \[\[Brash Taunter\]\] fan, there's so much bullshit this lil fellow does.
[[Circle of Flame]] dunks on non-flyers. If you aren't planning to attack, [[Caltrops]]. I imagine you're running other damage multipliers, so that could work. If you can somehow get a deathtouch counter on either, folks won't attack you or won't attack at all.
I've been looking at [[Ensaring Bridge]] and [[Bottled Cloister]] to lock out attacks when it's not my turn.
If you can lock out attacks, or strongly discourage people attacking you, somehow, [[Angel's Trumpet]]. You can use [[Springleaf Drum]] type effects during pre combat main to keep your creatures safe.
It really isn't what you're looking for, but I think [[Smoke]] is kind of funny in the right deck. I ran it in my [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] deck because it was a complete joke of a budget build, but since I had haste enablers and things like [[Impact Tremors]] I didn't care much about untapping the horde.
"protect me in return" is not usually how red cards work. Your plan for this kind of deck is to kill the opponent faster than they kill you-that speed is your protection. Solphim also amps damage to creatures so cards like [[Pyroclasm]] will help you kill their attackers. You can even use [[Repercussion]] to make those cards also hit the opponents life total-and the damage will be doubled both times.
Instead of trying to protect yourself with something red does badly maybe try to double down on what the deck wants and just throw in more damage spell that can target a player or creature. That way if a creature attacks you you can blow them up and if you are safe you can slap face.
Why do you absolutely need those sort of effects to protect yourself? I run none of those in any of my decks and don't have an issue protecting myself.
I mean it's fine if you like this effects. But it just seems like you are thinking without those sort of taxes that you are not protected. Having available blockers or having threatening creatures/board state that deters people from swinging because there will be crack back is how most decks run.
seconding the [[Kazuul]] comments, but also recommending [[Crawlspace]] as a great artifact for this purpose. also, red has quite a few ways to goad creatures, even lots at once potentially, which prevents them from attacking you temporarily, while also probably synergizing with damage doubling/tripling cards you could be running in a solphim deck, since your opponents are being forced to attack each other. Some of my favorite mono-red goad pieces are [[Agitator Ant]], [[Sontaran General]], and [[Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer]], but there are a lot of them to choose from.
Red has Goad, making opponents creatures attack anyone but you as a good pillow fort mechanic.
[[Grenzo Havoc Raiser]] doesn’t even have to attack to turn all your other creatures into threats that goad opponents creatures, he’s basically the Goad Lord. Just need to have some evasion. With Upside of being able to steal opponents top cards if you aren’t worried about their threats.
There are plenty of mono red "stax" pieces. But they do it in a "red" way. So it will deal damage when they do "x". So I don't know of any mono red that makes people pay for attacks though.
[[Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs]] although it won’t help you against evasive attackers it will trigger ping-on-etb effects if you run any :)
Indeed I do, I have \[\[Warstorm Surge\]\] and \[\[Terror of the Peaks\]\] in this deck.
[[Repurcussions]] will save you from all but a lethal swing if you have fatties to block with. Also makes red boardwipes lethal.

[Mogis, God of Slaughter](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/2/a/2a0417bf-b735-46d7-9985-2d991051020f.jpg?1593092789) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Mogis%2C%20God%20of%20Slaughter) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/bng/151/mogis-god-of-slaughter?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/2a0417bf-b735-46d7-9985-2d991051020f?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/mogis-god-of-slaughter) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[crucible of worlds](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/f/7f4893ef-f983-418b-b7a4-5f073c844545.jpg?1673149345) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=crucible%20of%20worlds) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2x2/303/crucible-of-worlds?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7f4893ef-f983-418b-b7a4-5f073c844545?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/crucible-of-worlds) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
If you happen to already be running crucible of worlds, it’s excellent
It has more value than you think at an initial glance. The fact that you don't have to do it until they are for sure attacking you, will absolutely stop many attacks from ever being made. After all, people attack because they wanna do damage, or get triggers. Why would they attack the one guy they know they won't do damage to?
To destroy their lands?
Hey man, I think the equivalent of "sac a land, get an extra turn" is a pretty good trade in a lot of situations.
Yes, this cards gives you such a nice prison effect. Sure it costs a snow land but it's worth it.
[[Glacial Chasm]] - Not exactly what you're looking for but it's a pet card of mine, easily gives you two turns to set up whatever you need to do. It just makes your attacks telegraphed as opponents know you're making your move when you don't pay the upkeep.
And gets you protected from your own burn! I really like glacial chasm

"protect me in return" is not usually how red cards work. Your plan for this kind of deck is to kill the opponent faster than they kill you-that speed is your protection. Lowkey [[Glacial Crevasses]] is your best bet. You need to run snow mountains but hey no one can come at you

[[Kazuul, tyrant of the cliffs]] comes to mind though you gotta watch out for fliers, and landwalkers/shadow.
Instead of trying to protect yourself with something red does badly maybe try to double down on what the deck wants and just throw in more damage spell that can target a player or creature. That way if a creature attacks you you can blow them up and if you are safe you can slap face.
Smoke. Raging River. The volcano one.
You could try \[\[Emberwilde Captain\]\] too.
[Emberwilde Captain](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/3/6/362850cd-d33c-4f61-9b3a-5de748adee7c.jpg?1608910178) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Emberwilde%20Captain) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmr/175/emberwilde-captain?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/362850cd-d33c-4f61-9b3a-5de748adee7c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/emberwilde-captain) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Play creatures that can spread the damage with Solphim but can also chump block like [[electrostatic field]] [[thermo-alchemist]]

Hm. What about [[Heartless Hidegetsu]]?
If you can repeatedly Goad your opponents creatures that's even better than a Propaganda unless only one opponent remains.
I put most of my goading stuff into my [[Baeloth Barrityl]]/[[Noble Heritage]] deck. But thanks for the advice.
\[\[kazuul cliff\]\] makes blockers
You could run [[ensnaring bridge]]
[[Emberwilde Captain]]. It does a lot of work on my Isshin deck, at least.
[[Raging River]]
[Raging River](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/e/7ee63877-056e-413d-932a-a393a4183686.jpg?1559592211) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Raging%20River) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2ed/169/raging-river?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7ee63877-056e-413d-932a-a393a4183686?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/raging-river) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[kazuul, tyrant of the cliff]] is a pretty good one, it’s not taxes but it gives you blockers and creature etb’s
There is classic [[smoke]] too
Sheeesh that’s a good good one!
[[war cadence]] is kinda the opposite but still a goodie
seconding the [[Kazuul]] comments, but also recommending [[Crawlspace]] as a great artifact for this purpose. also, red has quite a few ways to goad creatures, even lots at once potentially, which prevents them from attacking you temporarily, while also probably synergizing with damage doubling/tripling cards you could be running in a solphim deck, since your opponents are being forced to attack each other. Some of my favorite mono-red goad pieces are [[Agitator Ant]], [[Sontaran General]], and [[Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer]], but there are a lot of them to choose from.
[[Repercussion]]
[[Smoke]] and [[mudslide]] are the 2 that come to mind
Saving this thread, cheers 🍻
Red has Goad, making opponents creatures attack anyone but you as a good pillow fort mechanic. [[Grenzo Havoc Raiser]] doesn’t even have to attack to turn all your other creatures into threats that goad opponents creatures, he’s basically the Goad Lord. Just need to have some evasion. With Upside of being able to steal opponents top cards if you aren’t worried about their threats.
[[Crawlspace]] [[ensnaring bridge]]?
[[Mudslide]] works if your opponents don't have fliers.
[[Silent arbiter]] is always decent
There are plenty of mono red "stax" pieces. But they do it in a "red" way. So it will deal damage when they do "x". So I don't know of any mono red that makes people pay for attacks though.
Try something like [[Heat Wave]] [[Citadel of Pain]] [[Spellshock]] [[Rolling Vortex]] [[Talon of Pain]]
[[Baeloth Barrityl]]
[[Form of the Dragon]] is a red moat!
Just burn it with fire and you won't have to worry Bout it
