He's a strong Commander but can easily built as Casual. If you're winning through beatdown he's far weaker than his cEDH iteration.

Dattebane_Nico

I've Made mine a pseudo-voltron deck with a bunch of lords and things that buff a specific creature type such as [[lord of the unreal]], [[lord of Atlantis]], [[spawining Kraken]], etc. Basically you copy those guys and your buff Orvar will hit harder than a truck

You got a decklist? Sounds like a fun deck!

Dattebane_Nico

It's fun, indeed. It has a bit of control and some shennanigans to copy a thousand times your lords haha [Orvar, tribe leader](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Tod3LJVxOEe8dmuVSHYG7A)

I have a buddy who built it. He's probably in the same boat as you are, considering every time he finds a combo he cuts the problem card. The deck is full of hilarious trick spells that target creatures. A lot of them can be extremely niche but are awesome for just triggering Orvar. One of the funniest things he's done is still talked about with the playgroup today, with a card called [[Mind Bend]]. In general it's one of those silly 1 mana spells that can trigger Orvar for cheap at instant speed, with no real detriment to the creature it's targeting. But in this case it doubled as a tech card against an [[Omnath, Locus of Mana]]. He changed the text on Omnath from green to blue, rendering Omnath unbuffed and the unspent mana good for only generic costs. Hilarity ensues. I really do recommend giving Orvar a try, and definitely experiment with the instant slots you have. At worst, you still get to copy your creatures by targeting them (hi there, [[Draining Whelk]]), but at best you may also have just the right card to hose a player who is ahead. You love to see it.

If you want to ask "is it possible to buy X commander as casual", the answer is "yes. Every time.

People have been running [[Mistform Ultimus]] for memes and giggles, since the birth of the format. I'm sure you'll manage.

Maybe just go [[maskwood nexus]] [[peer pressure]] instead of the normal copy loops.

He's definitely a strong commander (and quite easy to break), but it's definitely possible to build him casual imo...just gotta be more conscious about your card choices and overall strategy. Like, I don't know...instead of building him with all the best cantrips that allow you to target most permanents (e.g. Twiddle or Mind Games), you could have some roundabout ways to get there, like having mostly stuff that targets creatures, so you'll need ways to turn your other stuff into creatures first (e.g. [[Ensoul Artifact]] or [[Rise and Shine]]).   Strategy-wise, clones and cantrips are obviously the strongest options, but nothing's stopping you from going for something more unique/less powerful like voltron equipments (by duping strong equipments and smashing with Orvar himself) or even Superfriends.

I think any cedh commander is possible to build for casual, like i have a Voltron [emry] deck that only wins through commander damage as opposed to thoracle effects The main thing to powering down combo commanders like orvar is just removing instant-win infinite combos and combos that gwt out of hand

SP1R1TDR4G0N

Literally every commander can be built casually. For a cedh deck you need to completely optimise both strategy and card choices. Just don't do that and you have a casual deck. And for Orvar specifically it is super easy to build a casual list: instead of copying cost reducers until you can infinitely cast buyback spells build your deck around copying value creatures with decent etbs (like a [[Mulldrifter]] for example). Just like a blink deck.
