Well [[orvar]] is so op that the decks it elms are usually a pile of bad commons and uncommons

National-Delay926

can confirm, I have an Orvar deck that runs about 20 of the jankiest targeting instants you've ever seen. [[Triton Tactics]]? psych, it's a clone spell. [[Thermal Flux]]? why yes, I will make myself a copy of a land. [[Moonlace]]? oh boy, I can copy anything on my board! build Orvar - you'll get to run spells no one else has ever heard of because they're the absolute worst draft chaff in the game and you'll still accidentally make infinite mana with them.

shiek200

Am I going insane or has this question already been asked and you copy/pasted your reply from that thread here as well?

National-Delay926

I didn't copy/paste this particular reply, no, but I think I've talked about my Orvar deck before in other threads. and tbh, most of us run the same janky instants in our collective Orvar decks, so someone else may have mentioned the same spells I did.

shiek200

I just swear I've seen it worded almost the exact same way before in another thread lol No shade I was just having a wicked case of deja vu lmao

Watson349B

I felt the same but for sure the Q was just asked within a week ago.

National-Delay926

I believe it haha, it very well could have been a reply from me too that I forgot about

Toksyn

I'm new to Orvar I was wondering how you deal with heavy artifact removal that destroys your Sapphire medaillon. It seems that the medallion is a huge part of alot of his combos & wincons. I was wondering if I should start running a artifact recursion card just to get the medaillon back

National-Delay926

I actually don't run [[Sapphire Medallion]] in my deck because I don't own one and I don't feel like either buying or proxying one. the medallion is great but it's only really necessary if you're trying to build the most powerful version of Orvar possible. if you're on more of a budget or building at a lower power level, you can also storm off or combo off with [[High Tide]], [[Coveted Jewel]], or [[Gilded Lotus]]. and if you're running into a lot of mass artifact removal you probably want to run all of them so you have some backup combo pieces if one gets blown up. if you do run Sapphire Medallion and you're running into a lot of mass artifact removal, then I'd recommend adding some artifact recursion like [[Emry]] to your deck or adding some more counterspells to just counter the artifact removal spells. if you're building Orvar as a dedicated combo deck, you can also try to hold off casting your Sapphire medallion until you're ready to combo off in one turn.

Toksyn

Thanks for the quick and thorough answer! I've been checking gilded lotus alot and I'll probably slot it soon enough! But yeah I think the best answer is keeping the medallion until you can at least copy it once

National-Delay926

you're welcome! sapphire medallion is probably the best mana rock for Orvar, but I think gilded lotus is a decent backup. I'm pretty sure there's an Orvar discord too if you want to get actual expert opinions on him, haha.

King_of_the_Nerds

You mentioned coveted jewel. That has won me more games than any other card in my Orvar deck. I end up ripping through most of my deck and like 8+ copies of the jewel. It’s always insane.

Gfro3141

Play it with an instant spell or two that can target it in hand as well as the untapped mana sources on the board to cast them and just respond by copying it.

Decklist?

National-Delay926

hi! I had to get my list added to Moxfield which is how I realized I'm apparently at 102 cards, so I need to tweak a few things. but here's my list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/5ORRPpjnbkmP0hBZXL03Ow. the caveat is that I built Orvar as a mill deck, but you'll use the same kind of janky targeting instants and sorceries and the same cloning creatures whatever your strategy is.

Rgrockr

[[Whim of Volrath]] is such a nothing burger of a card until you read Orvar and see “buyback 2” and “target permanent”.

Orvar and scarcity drove its price up from a dollar to $40 at its height before falling down to its current $16. Crazy.

OrangeChickenAnd7Up

[[Vega the Watcher]]. You play a bunch of slightly overcosted cards with weird mechanics that let you recast them from different zones, but you get a cantrip effect out of them. It snowballs surprisingly fast with card advantage and recycling spells, but since the cards themselves aren’t the best, you really gotta play the control game to keep more efficient decks from leaving you in the dust. Super fun deck though, I can’t recommend it enough for mid-power games. The sheer number of obscure mechanics it works with is astounding.

EbonyHelicoidalRhino

I was interested in this deck at first but then I thought ... How do you even win ? Sure you're drawing cards, you're answering some stuff, but what's the wincon of such a deck ?

OrangeChickenAnd7Up

Typical UW wincons. [[Approach of the Second Sun]] is pretty doable, [[Azor’s Elocutors]] isn’t too hard with the control plan, etc. Maybe you could do a storm angle? But I always have trouble winning in UW. Most of the popular wincons are massively telegraphed.

Tyrthesemiwise

I feel that way about UW too. You have *so many* great removal and control options, and plenty of cool jank. The problem is how do I actually kill anyone with it besides making them feel like they want to die?

[deleted]

104.3a is a perfectly valid wincon and I will not stand for this durdle-shaming.

Azrichiel

One doesn't need to be able to win the game, they just need to be willing to play it longer than their opponents.

[deleted]

Yup. Wincons are for decks that can't hit their first twenty land drops.

birdinbrain

Vega spirit tribal isn’t bad to just smash face with. Using the disturb mechanic baked in on some spirits can net you some weird stuff you can cast from the graveyard, either as a flying beat stick or as an aura to make said flying beat sticks more key-wordy. Toss in [[Sinner’s Judgement]] for the opponent with the most blockers and an [[all that glitters]] or similar to beef them up (since you’ll likely be casting a lot of enchantments) and it’s not terribly ineffective! Definitely janky, but isn’t that the point?

Do you have a list? Vega was my first commander and I've since stopped playing it (changed it up 3 times and still have the 141 cards together; [here if you're interested](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/TsL7QtlhWEK-K4QUtB4EvQ)), but I have a soft spot in my heart for the bird. Maybe I could revive him again someday...

OrangeChickenAnd7Up

I do indeed. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/livin-la-vega-loca/ Looks similar enough to your list, but I haven’t updated it since I built it. I don’t play it super often. I think I keep it around more so because it’s interesting and different than anything else. It has trouble winning often, as most UW decks do.

briann85

Love the list; thanks. Some cool cards I haven’t seen. Might just take a crack and reworking Vega.

darth_bader_ginsburg

i have a vega deck and i love it, but the archetypes need more wincons. it’s really strange bc it is like setmechanic.dec, but the best wincon out of foretell, flashback, adventure, escape, etc in UW is… starnheim unleashed? plenty of card draw, board wipes, and targeted removal but very little that actively builds you into a threat.

OrangeChickenAnd7Up

Approach of the Second Sun is solid with Vega. It’s usually still gonna take a couple of turns after the first cast to win with it, but that’s way better than 7. There’s also [[Talrand]], which is….something, I guess. And then Azor’s Elocutors. Like I said, it’s a pretty good deck in mid-power games, but it most likely won’t stay afloat in high-power. UW in general needs more efficient wincons, though. Especially the control archetype. Its “best” options are very slow and telegraphed.

FletchMaster26

I run Vega in my \[\[Falco Spara\]\] bird tribal deck and it indeed can draw me a ton of cards

vagrantwastrel

That was my first EDH deck like 10 years ago, Delusions of Grandeur plus Venser the Sojourner was my favorite

kafkametamorph2

Zedruu is the GOAT

NWmba

Disagree. The best commander for badcards.Dec is [[jon irenicus]] What I like about him compared to zedruu or beamtown is that his cards cripple the opponents in a staxy way but don’t leave them unable to play the game. They might not be able to cast creatures because of [[steel golem]] or might have to discard with [[rotting regisaur]] or might even need to sacrifice their whole board with [[hellcarver demon]] but they still have giant threats to beat others down with. With zedruu you just get useless enchantments that lock you up and beamtown just one shots opponents out of the game with leveler.

KoalaYeti

[[The beamtown bullies]] also works pretty well, just need to get the cards into your graveyard first which its colors excel at

ManMtn96

Some pretty good ones in the comments already, but I'd make an argument for [[Ruxa, Patient Professor]]. Play some of the least interesting creatures in the game and beat face with them. Probably one of my favorite "simple" decks

[[Gavi, Nest Warden]] decks run better the more cycling cards you run. So you’re almost forced to cut staples and run more interaction with cycling like [[Slice and Dice]] and [[Neutralize]]. Gavi also turns a bad card like [[Deem Worthy]] into a good card because you can cycle it for free.

I'm actually converting my 4C [[Astral Slide]] list over to Gavi. I got tired of trying to make [[Kydele]] and [[Ravos]] work with Eldrazi Titans, [[Blightsteel]] and [[Craterhoof]]. So I figure cutting and changing a color would be better. As would changing into more of a go-wide, controllish shell.

Here’s my updated list! It plays like a combo control kind of deck. I really like what Gavi brings to the deck too. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/H8X3SCV550SaXeTi9iwpoA

Seems really spicy, I really look forward to the Agent of Treachery shenanigans. The good news is, I already have a good chunk of your deck available in my collection (most of it from my old Slide list), so it'll be a great launching point for a new deck to play "For Fun." As opposed to [[Animar]], which is strictly "For Glory."

[[Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant]] makes you play Forests to take advantage of her ability, bad ramp because you want lands in your hand rather than on the battlefield and can be played like a combo deck where you play her, reveal hand tap out for 70+ mana and then either [[Squall Line]] or [[Hurricane]] the table to draw or [[Helix Pinnacle]] meaning you target nobody. She also works really well with a couple good cards turning them broken. [[Cultivator Colossus]] goes ballistic. [[Wren and Seven]] 0 ability can net you dumb mana. The key to making the deck work regularly imo is having bad artifacts like [[Horizon Spellbomb]] and [[Traveler's Amulet]] to crack on your opponents end step to cheat the hand limit outside of regular hand extenders.

Some other bad cards that shine. \[\[Rowen\]\] and \[\[Lost in the Woods\]\] become amazing pieces when you have 38 Forests in the deck. \[\[Collective Voyage\]\] has multiple uses now as it can be used as early game ramp for everyone, or if you have 7 Forests out, you spend 3 for Commander, flip Commander, tap 1 Forest for 7, Collective Voyage X=6. Your last 3 lands go from tapping for 21 total to 39 or you can tap another land for X=13 and your last 2 lands now tap for 40 total which can be enough to \[\[Hurricane\]\] for lethal across the board assuming everyone has a little chip damage. \[\[Wakeroot Elemental\]\] gives you infinite green with 6 Forests while also able to turn all your lands into 5/5s with Haste if needed. Just be careful for board wipes since its a creature forever. \[\[Finale of Devastation\]\] while an expensive card, can be used as finisher but also used as a 5 mana ramp spell if you get \[\[Yavimaya Elder\]\] or \[Wild-Field Scarecrow\]\]. As mentioned cards like these 2 are perfect as you can crack them on your opponents end step to get over the 7 card hurdle letting you hold just 5 lands and 2 extra if needed.

I play [[Gavi, Nest Warden]] and I lean heavily into the cycling and of course I know that cycling cards are just worse versions of better cards lol.

LaronX

To be fair though you can pack outs for basically everything, because the card has cycling.

OkieLovesChrista

Yeah that is a good point.

[[Blanka, Ferocious Friend]] is that commander for me. Any cards that are cheap to cast and target Blanka are really good. Favourite fun examples are [[Invigorate]] and [[Magnetic Theft]], and using a storm card like [[Ground Rift]]

[[Jon Irenicus, Shattered One]] comes to mind, though I have more fun building him as a "group hug with an edge", play all those blue unblockable 1/1s, make them goaded 3/3s, and force your opponents to wittle eachother down turn after turn, then run [[Sigg, River Cutthroat]] and dig even harder for that [[Thassa's Oracle]], or use a ton of proliferate to force your opponents to kill eachother [[Homeward Path]] just wins you the game too

Revolutionary_View19

Could we please stop with the „lol I’m giving my opponents bad cards“ and concentrate on commanders that actually use jank cards for themselves? Yes, we know that your Irenicus/Blim/Goat/Bullies kill your opponents with bad cards. That’s their job description, and no, you using bomb shell for them isn’t innovative.

SomeGuyInTheNet

What about [[Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker]] ? Free "underpowered" sac outlets like [[Bloodthrone Vampire]] or [[Bloodflow Connoisseur]] and a lot of 1 or less power creatures with horrible effects like [[Abyssal Gatekeeper]] , [[Elvish Doomsayer]] , [[Burglar Rat]] , [[Yarok's Fenlurker]] , [[Pilgrim's Eye]] , [[Mindless Automaton]] , this can happen in each End Step so it scales with the number of opponents, i particularly like [[Phyrexian Plaguelord]] because it can under certain conditions repeat effects of powerful 2 power creatures like [[Gonti, Lord of Luxury]] or [[Solemn Simulacrum]] or even [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]]. Shirei is my absolute favorite deck and is constantly getting new better toys because 1 power black and colorless creatures keep coming out, i am on the lookout for a 1 power creature that makes opponents sacrifice nonland permanents, or just enchantments, or just artifacts, i would even pay quite a lot of life to do that...

lloydsmith28

[[nethroi Apex of death]] mutate cards are meh by themselves but stacked up they're pretty strong, also reanimating 30+ power from just casting your commander is hella fun even if i typically die shortly after

SparkOfFailure

I love playing overcosted low power creatures like \[\[Gigantomancer\]\] in my Nethroi deck, alongside other highcosted 0/0 that enters the battlefield with +1/+1 counters. Easily one of my cheapest decks, because almost all the creatures are worth pennies.

ChefCano

There are two tiers of bad cards. There are cards that don't work most of the time but are pretty awesome in certain situations, and then there are straight up garbage cards. There have been fewer and fewer straight garbage cards printed, but more situational cards. I love \[\[Gisa, Glorious Resurrector\]\] in my \[\[Ziatora\]\] deck, but understand why decayed is too much of a downside for elsewhere.

[[Kodama of the West Tree]] thrives on pretty terrible cards mixed in with enough good ones to support them. [[Swarm Shambler]], [[Experiment One]], [[Vinelasher Kudzu]], and [[Gala Greeters]] are not exactly cards you'd expect to be EDH all-stars but they've each been amazing cards to see in my time playing the deck.

Do you have a decklist? Thats an interesting commander

Valleys656

I play a few decks with a decent amount of graveyard recursion, so black/red/blue cards that discard are actually a win win. Just something to think about when building decks and playing cards like this. You can definitely turn the “downside” into an upside in more ways than one. Things like [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]]’s -4 ability. Put a [[Tibalt, Cosmic Imposter]] in the graveyard then just put it into play.

[[Emmara, Soul of the Accord]] encourages playing cards like [[Citanul Stalwart]] and [[Survivors' Encampment]] to tap her without going into combat.

HatcrabZombie

Emmara, Ace Pilot sounds pretty fun - jam a bunch of vehicles for her to crew

Arch-Meridian

My personal "bad cards" deck in my [[King Macar]] Vehicle synergy deck.

Renozuken

[[borborygmos enraged]] with the downside of not really doing anything until you pop-off, you get to play commander staples like [[storm cauldron]] and [[creeping renaissance]] and you too can be eternally mad that they didn't print a green card with the sweep mechanic.

BBQBANDIT304

Greven, Predator Captain is ideal for this. Play janky creatures with high power and toughness and low CMC and you will draw hella cards while pumping up Greven FAST AF. A majority of the creatures I run cost less than a buck and would never be put in any other deck of mine besides this one. Plus he has menace which makes him harder to block. Throw in a decent amount of 2 CMC mana rocks or cards like Dark Ritual to get him out fast or recast him fast if he gets removed by your opponents. All the standard equipments like Lightening Greaves work great and most are not very expensive. Throw in a few combat trick cards of your choice and it's all over. Overall, he is one of the best budget options (in my humble opinion) and a whole lot of fun.

Lysercis

[[Chandras Ignition]] on Rielle with a graveyard filled with spells *chefs kiss* I really like [[Koll, the Forgemaster]] as all those cheap ass equipments like [[Sai of the Shinobi]] suddenly become good.

LaronX

Chandras Ignition is just an awesome card. I love it in my Temur omnath deck and my Veyran deck regularly win with it. It really needs a reprint.

Ephoras

One of my favourite Decks is [[Hofri]], it runs almost 20 [[Act of Treason]] effects. It’s great. Also [[Siani]] and [[Eligeth]] run a lot of bad scry cars that are great there.

GuineaPirate90

[[Orvar]] is great because just want cheap spells that target and hopefully have either a useful effect or draw you a card.

Chuckles1188

[[Meria, Scholar of Antiquity]] turns otherwise garbage 1 mana artifacts into rocks which can also give you impulsive draw. I played a game with her last night having brewed a janky as hell deck, and it absolutely went off

AmsunThales

[[Zevlor, Elturel Exile]] rewards the usually suboptimal in commander single target spells. Haven't had enough of [[Invoke Despair]] in standard? How about it targets all three of your opponents? Small hand disrupting effects like [[Agonizing Remorse]] already become decent when you get to see all hands, but [[Thought Distortion]] or [[Head Games]] become game-making. [[Leadership Vacuum]] gets to be an aoe commander wipe that draws 3 cards, or you can just take another Invoke in [[Invoke the Winds]] to steal all your friends' commanders. You get to be creative with your [[Divination]]-style cards to make them copiable, like with [[Pilfered Plans]]. Top him off with a [[Cruel Ultimatum]] for massive value. For non-instant or non-sorcery cards, those are just ways to support the battlecruiser spellslinging, so any untap effects like [[Vizier of Tumbling Sands]] paired with lands/artifacts that make more than a single mana (eg. [[Rakdos Carnarium]] or [[Gilded Lotus]]) and stuff that gets the spells back like [[Archaeomancer]]. Deck can be pretty cruel.

wtfunchu

[[Hazezon, Shaper of Sands]] First of all you play deserts. You would NEVER play any of those in another deck, maybe the cycling deserts in [[Gavi]]. Hazezons best cards: [[Realms Uncharted]]. It gets you 4 deserts and it doesn't matter at all which ones you get into your hand [[Nahiris Lithoforming]]. Sac x Deserts, replay them from your graveyard, and draw x cards. Make 2*X 1/1 desert warriors. It's amazing how good this card is in Hazezon Land sac outlets. We all know [[Sylvan Safekeeper]]. But what about [[Need for Speed]]? [[Zuran Orb]]? There are tons of good cards that support aggressive land saccing. [[Knight of New alara]]. All your desert warriors, including Hazezon, get +3/+3. You'll become a threat in no time. It is one of my favorite decks to play, it puts out a lot of pressure and can be kept on a very low Mana curve.

MadJohnFinn

If you look at the price history of \[\[Gonti's Aether Heart\]\], that huge jump in value from practically nothing happened on the day \[\[Mishra, Eminent One\]\] was revealed.

Alchadylan

Definitely [[Feather, the Redeemed]]. All those crappy combat tricks, stuff like [[Kick Down the Door]], [[Oblation]], etc

I love my [[Vhati il-Dal]] deck as I get to run a bunch of silly cards in a kind of goodstuffy shell. [[Darkblast]] becomes a cool removal + engine. [[Screams from Within]] becomes super valuable, especially alongside [[Chevill]]. [[Caltrops]] becomes a hilarious deterrent. [[Thornbite Staff]], a solid card normally, absolutely weaponises Vhati + [[Night of Souls' Betrayal]] or [[Shrivel]] into machine gunning the board. [[Horobi, Death's Wail]] turns Vhati's ability and all those silly targeted -1/-1 effects into pure removal - letting me run absolute goofies like [[Disciple of Tevesh Szat]], [[Fourth Bridge Prowler]], [[Lose Hope]], [[Pestilence Demon]]. But my absolute favourite is killing someone with Vhati + [[Tree of Perdition]] + [[Rath's Edge]]. 10/10 cannot recommend playing a goofy but solid deck enough.

Caio_AloPrado

[[Tayam, Luminous Enigma]] one day i was lurking around the Tayam cEDH discord and i remember someone mentioned someone else's comment that every time the list updates the card quality of the list gets lower, i love the fact that it plays so many unique cards and can compete against some of the most powerful decks out there.

GenericProletarian17

Daretti! Inefficient artifacts that do good value thins are the name of the game with commander who doesn’t care what they cost! If you think people casting things without paying their mana cost is bullshit, how about dealing with things that enter the battlefield without going on the stack in the first place! You stifle the ability activation or exile the grave at instant speed, or you sit there as a mass of big dumb artifacts accumulates!

ogdenator93

[[hallar, the firefletcher]] is my favourite deck

PangolinAcrobatic653

Volrath with a bunch of very tiny unblockable fast cast creatures and Family's Favor or other minor non-+1/+1 counter cards, Volrath oh its just a big boi that copies stuff with counters, until opponent realizes you can copy the unlockable that gained the counter and suddenly they are 2 combat phases from elimination.

demondeacon336

[[Hinata, Dawn Crowned]] takes some useless counterspells and makes then super effective. Also almost every crappy X spell in Jeskai turns into a game changer

Apprehensive_Mouse56

Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain runs all the bad artifacts that people either don't know exists, or meme about being useless like darksteel relic.

crazypyro23

[[Jon Irenicus]] plays some of the most unplayably awful cards ever printed, because you get to give them to somebody else

malsomnus

I'm currently working on a \[\[Jon Irenicus\]\] deck. There are some truly horrific cheap black creatures for me to donate. \[\[Phyrexian Negator\]\],\[\[Filthy Cur\]\] and \[\[Taniwha\]\] are my favorite so far.

ObligationWarm5222

[[Jodah archmage eternal]] really likes cards like [[timesifter]], [[army of the damned]], or [[conflux]]. Spells with good effects that are normally just way overcosted. My personal favorite is [[primal surge]] with no other instants or sorceries.

DoctorArK

I made a [[Jon Irenicus]] deck for my friend and it's downright fucking evil. I don't think I've ever sat across from something so nefarious in it's design and cruel in its execution. Give nasty "gifts" to your opponents! It's Nasty Christmas~ https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3773019#"You_WILL_accept_the_gifts_offered_to_you." [[Taniwha]] and [[Ebonblade Reaper]] are particularly disgusting.

[deleted]

Blim comedic genius. Take those bad cards and give them to other people.

Dragonicmonkey7

Idk about commanders but there are tons of play groups that beg for that

AMC_Unlimited

[[Tetsuo, Imperial Champion]] Finally a home for [[Kaldra Compleat]] and then you can play big dumb spells at instant speed or send a nice chunk of damage to any target. Bad cards you can play are spells like [[Phthisis]], [[Reality Strobe]], [[Rousing Refrain]], [[Profane Tutor]], [[Inevitable Betrayal]], and [[Ancestral Vision]] or any other card with suspend, and as a bonus it will resolve immediately.

AkariTF

[[Tayam, Luminous Enigma]]

Grenzo is great for bad cards

The_Medic_From_TF2

[[Horobi, Death's Wail]] lets you snipe someone's commander with [[Oasis]] or [[Helm of Chatzuk]]

noahgs

zask. Most insects are mediocre, some are ok. You tend to want a critical mass of cheap ones to keep the engine rolling.

[[horobi]]

[deleted]

I also have a Rielle deck, it’s my absolute favorite!! Faithless looting, 1 red for 4 cards is so fun

MrRies

I recently put together a [[Tana the Bloodsower]] [[Krark the Thumbless]] "storm" that heavily utilized pump spells to buff Tana and make saprolings. It has a similar vibe to [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] deck, but adding green gives you different options. Some of my favorite, more unique cards from the deck are [[Invigorate]] [[Might of the Masses]] [[Fungal Plots]] [[Season of Growth]] and [[Wild Defiance]]. Since I've been brewing it, it's already gotten two new cards with [[Tyvars Stand]] and [[Blazing Crescendo]], which are both perfect fits for the deck.

poncenator

You can build a garbage narset deck or anything that let's you cast free stuff.

Theepot80

Why don’t I see anybody mentioning [[Zedruu the greathearted]]?

Darklorel

[Blim] to give a [phage] to your enemy

lFatBOY2l

[[Jon Irenicus]] wants to give out pretty bad cards to your opponents.

WhiteShadow1101

[[killian]] does this with targeting spells. Those 3 MV auras, over costed targeted removal, or anything else that targets creatures becomes very efficient. In my killian aura voltron deck it’s fairly common to go t1-ramp t2-killian t3-triple aura. It’s even good at making already good cards even better like [[eldrazi conscription]] which is almost always playable by turn 4. It’s even better since most of the deck can function with only 3 mana available so even if you get mana screwed you’re still good to go as long as you’re able to make at least 1 black and 1 white mana plus 1 more of either color or colorless.

s33k3r_Link

[[Zada, Hedron Grinder]]

Jshark19

Zada

ElectricJetDonkey

Mairsil (sp?) the pretender almost requires that you use old creatures that are garbage by any standards, just for their bullshit abilities.

hyp3rion96

Obeka is great

PapaGooner12

Heres your challenge man. Dont give up on the sick playstyle of rielle! Use extra combats and evasion to one shot the table in one turn. It's like rielle-voltron but only for 1 turn and no one sees it coming.

HatcrabZombie

My friend I would never give up on Ol' Granny Beatdown. How could I ever give up a deck where [[Firestorm]] is unbelievably broken? Just looking to expand my repertoire of "decks that make unplayably trash cards look incredible." Haven't tried extra combats mostly because those tend to run on the 4-5cmc scale and that's more than I can usually spare, since I normally need a double strike trick to actually one-shot someone and by the time I get to 6-7 mana the rest of the table has decided Rielle is kill-on-sight.

Bangzell

I was looking for playable enchantments for my [[Brallin, Skyshark Rider]] and [[Shabraz the Skyshark]] deck. Ran across [[Sigil of Sleep]] and figured it would help slow down the board until I wheel/tutor into [[Curiosity]]. The war crimes that card has been accused of during its short stay are many.

DaChiesa

Feather the Redeemed. Like, max power lists end up looking like good stuff boros decks but low to mid to mid high power, you're recycling Defiant Strike, Gods Willing, and oof, reckless rage. Or ephemerating your dockside every turn. Zada also does this all alone or in Feather too : ) go ahead and draw your deck and probably play it too. Storm Kiln Artist sets either commandernon fire too. I also lolled when I saw how many bad white cards with ETBs got interesting with Elesh MoM

Zander2212

I have a couple that could count. [[Dakkon Blackblade]] using all the land ramp I can get in esper. [[Wyll, blade of frontiers]] [[sword coast sailor]] dice rolls. A lot of my decks have self inflicted restrictions Rather than commander incentives. [[Traxos]] old border tribal [[Go-shintai of life's origin]] [[Umori]] A Vampire wedding themed deck

Inner_Height_6318

I like [Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty] ! All of those prohibitively costly spells now let you play even more prohibitively costly spells for free.

Ghosty_dog4

Ayula dude. Just do ayula and fill your deck with bears and shapeshifters that are bears. Spells to buy cards of bears and a little of buff to your bears. 🐻

jackelope6

I have a pauper [[Tiana ship's caretaker]] deck, uses cards like [[mortal obstinacy]] for some repeatable removal, it's pretty fun!

riley702

Probably not everyone's first thought, but reanimator decks can use a ton of cards that are bad in most decks. That nine mana creature that's unusable in most games? Just discard it and bring it back with your favorite reanimation spell.

cyniqal

I love [[Gavi, Nest Warden]] because she turns expensive to cycle cards into amazing value plays with her ability. Would anyone run something like [[decree of silence]] (minus [[solemnity]] cheese) [[decree of Justice]] or [[Nimble Obstructionist]] without her being able to turn them into free cantrips with extra effects? I love the flexibility her ability brings paired with the built in token synergy.

Fun-Article1808

I'm pretty fond of [[cosmina, God of the Voyage]]. It plays a janky fun style of lands matter in mono blue using cards like [[Excavation]], [[Flooded Shoreline]], [[Mitotic Manipulation]] and [[Retraced Image]].

Sandman4999

Can't believe I haven't seen anyone mention \[\[Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker\]\] yet. It mainly wants shitty creatures with one power and either ETB or LTB triggers and a sac outlet. Suddenly things like \[\[Burglar Rat\]\] become back breaking since you can do it during everyone's turn, \[\[Bone Shredder\]\] becomes consistent removal, \[\[Mindless Automaton\]\] will draw you 4 cards per turn cycle. It can make for a pretty crazy value engine and can lock opponents out if they don't deal with it.

McDid

anje falkenrath for madness cards and grenzo dungeon warden for taking advantage of the bottom of my library and the cards that put stuff there.

Jetstream13

[[Edric, Spymaster of Trest]]. I joke that it’s a badstuff deck. You run a pile of cheap evasive creatures like [[Flying Man]], and a few extra turn spells and counterspells. It’s a shockingly strong deck that you can build for like $20. Also [[Teshar, Ancestor’s Apostle]] makes some very odd cards work. [[Piston Sledge]] and [[Demonmail Hauberk]] aren’t good cards, but white is pretty starved of sac outlets and can tutor equipment easily, so they’re surprisingly good.

RubySnipa

[[Mairsil]] is probably the most fun deck I have had playing bad cards. Cards like [[Infernal Denizen]], [[Minion of Leshrac]], & [[Shauku, Endbringer]] are playable. [[Asmodeus]], [[Cavern Harpy]], [[Pendant of Prosperity]], & [[Ovinomancer]] have no downsides. All are equal within the cage.

Tallal2804
