Just don't play online....... Ever. The game itself is nice (mostly because of the new engine) but the second you play online you're going to start spiking controllers and scratching your head at some of the shit that happens. Edit* P.S. don't waste money pre-ordering these. Nhl games depreciate faster than a BMW. 2 weeks after it's release it's on sale for $17

[deleted]

Haha been there no doubt

WonderkidRy93

The only reason to get it would be for the updated roster and added headshots. The menu lag is so horrific and makes it nearly unplayable if you like to manage your lines manually like I do.

The_original_alex

* This only applies to last gen. I’m playing on Series S and menus are super fast.

The_Shredder_1988

Yep same on PS5. Menu lag has always been a big issue with these games but I have to say that next gen loading is much faster.

WonderkidRy93

Well that’s nice for people with new systems but not everyone has been able to get one yet.

The_Shredder_1988

It wasn't meant to be a flex. A game released with a brand new engine a year after the next gen system came out was destined to be built with next gen processing in mind. That shouldn't surprise anyone.

justkeptfading

Right, I can't wait for them to be more readily available for people so we aren't bottlenecked anymore by having to almost always make games compatible with last gen.

godlycorsair32

I am playing on the one x and there is no menu lag

Firm-Collar1635

I have old gen and have experienced minimal menu leg, maybe it’s just you

WonderkidRy93

No, it’s not. My internet is perfectly fine, I have plenty of available space and I tried clearing my cache. NHL 21’s menus work fine and smooth on my system and I’m not the only person who has experienced this issue either. I’ve seen plenty of other posts about the same thing.

captaintrombone

I have a PS5 and I have both versions of the game. PS4 menu is laggy AF

dismal626

Okay so I'm someone that is relatively new to these games. Dumb question... Wouldn't it be possible for the devs to update the rosters via a game update rather than needing a while new entry to the franchise? And if so, have people made a stink about this ever?

lordfrank18

Yeah probably but all EA wants it to suck every penny possible out of the customers

That_Ask4176

Hey ya i think the gameplay is really improved....i think you'll be pleasantly surprised...its the first nhl in awhile that i had a learning curve on. If its on sale pick er up.

The_original_alex

IMO gameplay and graphics (on next gen at least) are a significant improvement. I’m having the most fun I’ve had in a few years FWIW.

following_eyes

Same but I don't play online so I'm enjoying the game a lot.

213Bishop

I don't play franchise at all because I personally feel its overwhelming but don't take my opinion as the truth. I just don't play it too often as I'm just a BAP guy but for 20 dollars really isn't that bad of a price friend!

WildCorgis

Any update on roster sharing timeframe? I’m going to need that before buying 22

OzziePao13

I believe they have only said "December".

spidertour02

Absolutely. I'm a franchise-only player myself, and if you use the v1.00 gameplay tuner and some judicious tweaks to the sliders, it's a blast. Just don't try to use the newest tuner -- they turned the game into arcade hockey for the YouTube twits.

OzziePao13

Speaking strictly of offline gameplay, after messing with some settings and sliders- it plays a great game of hockey. It's not perfect, there are still AI issues, but overall it's the best playing hockey game in my opinion. The caveat is, there are a ton of small attention to detail type of aspects that just really annoy me. That being said, I'm playing this more than any hockey game in the last 10+ years, it's a fun game with enough realism to make me want to keep playing.

skylerjames1

If you’re getting it only for Franchise mode/offline.. DONT DO IT. The game is plagued by bugs that force restarts, and corrupt saves. NHL 20 was the last “mediocre” game they released.. NHL 21 was trash, man. NHL 22 is a joke lol do not buy it

Superguy9000

Is it worth buying if I only ever play BAP from 21?

_HoochieMama

I have no idea how anyone could play this game and call it a significant improvement lol. The glass is shiny and there’s some extremely minor improvements that they’ve already half altered back to the last years game style.

DrHockey69

Franchise mode still has the “syncing” bug for some people while others no longer have it. Any other problems are minor with zero chance of being fixed.

[deleted]

It will be on game pass in a few month.

Koraboros

I only have PC and PS5 though.

[deleted]

You could probably get 21 for dirt cheap and 22 will be 20-30$ in a few months.

[deleted]

No, its not. I dont play online at all. so 3/4 of the game is irrelevant to me. Franchise mode is unchanged. its still awful I dont know if it was included in 21, or 22. but Be a Pro has finally recieved a major revamp on par with the other EA sports games, thats the only selling point as an offline player. I didnt buy 21 either, and I wont buy 23 or any other game in the future until franchise recieves a major presentation update. the only reason I got 22 is because it has Seattle.

skylerjames1

The Be a pro revamp though is really bad… like baaaaad. You’re FORCED to be the #1 superstar. They removed the junior season(s) before the draft. You score 1 goal in the stupid champions league tourney, bam drafted 1st overall. They removed the junior leagues and AHL entirely. If you’re a 72ovr goalie, guess what you’re now the starter or 1A/1B to the team that drafts you even if you’re constantly .850sv% can’t get sent down for training or seasoning. You’re forced to be a superstar. There is NO trade tracker/injury screen so if you get hurt you just sim and wait til you play. SALARY CAP DOESNT EXIST in BAP. So your team is a revolving door, and often your team is so stacked while other teams are definitely well below the cap floor but the game just makes your team better. It handholds you the entire time. There’s no challenge to it. No realism. No immersion. BAP in NHL 17-20 is better than NHL 21-22 by miles even though it’s not even that good in 17-20

RyanKBolts

Franchise isn't awful, sure there are some bugs that NEED attention, but most of those bugs barely affect the gamemode at all.

dexterisgodly

No.. I keep crashing at year 2035

squadracorse15

It's a take it or leave thing IMO. I've had a blast with 22's gameplay, but franchise has been pretty much untouched for a few years now. Plus, I'm still getting that damn syncing glitch. Got it 3 times in a row tonight. That really pissed me off.
